### "A beautiful piece of software"

August 24, 2019

5.0

Our business is extremely productive thanks to Schoology. It gives teachers a lot of control over their class and a way to organize everything in a way that it saves time and money. Amazing!

Pros

I cannot stress how incredible this software is. It looks a bit like Facebook, which makes it both familiar and easy to use, the user-interface is a huge reason why my company uses Schoology. Schoology interfaces with Google, allowing embed of my google files so that it will automatically update in Schoology if I update an assignment sheet and/or calendar. Students can also upload assignments from their Google Drive. In fact, the interfacing means you can grade, view, and comment on all assignments in Google Drive. It's incredibly easy to use in the classroom setting and I have had student parents thank me for their children's learning progress because of this software.

Cons

The thing I like least about Schoology is that while it has great Google interfacing, there's a lack of some other platforms that could be useful for people who might need that kind of feature. It's not a problem for me and my company.

### "Schoology the app to link parents with the school"

December 24, 2021

3.0

Overall everything is just ok.

Pros

I like that it is a platform that allows interaction between the teachers and parents, and it is available throughout the school year.

Cons

I found the app different to navigate and use. It isn't the most user friendly app available.

### "There's a reason so many institutions use it "

February 6, 2018

5.0

Pros

Schoology is still the best online learning system I can find. It's prettier than blackboard, more functional, and offers a good UI experience and delivery of content. I've been using it for several years now, and rarely do I run into problems. When I do, they're quick to solve them and quick to update the functionality as a whole. It makes fora great experience for both teachers and students alike.

Cons

It'd be nice to have a little more option for graphics experience and even perhaps for live student interaction. As it is, we still wind up on skype for live learning experiences.

### "Classroom Management Made Easy"

August 25, 2018

5.0

I have been using Schoology in my classroom for 4 years in a vocational career and technical education for high school juniors and seniors. By using the free edition of Schoology, our classroom has become more efficient by going mostly all digital through a combination of this platform and Google Drive. Students can access and turn in materials (and I can grade) from anywhere there is internet. It has allowed us to spend more time working with students in the classroom.

Pros

Schoology has a plethora of features for organizing and distributing materials, tracking grades and attendance, and assessment.

Cons

Some great features / functionality is blocked behind their Enterprise (paid) edition.

### "Schoology Junkie"

September 1, 2020

4.0

Pros

I absolutely love the gradebook and it is so east to use. Grading the project and watching it automatically upload to the gradebook saves sooo much time.

Cons

I hate the uploading feature. It makes you jump through too many screens to upload a document. On the teacher side I do not like the missed assignments tally. When you click on a resubmitted assignment for example it never takes you straight to what was resubmitted. It will take you to the overall assignment and then I have to guess which student resubmitted it.

### "Great Educational Platform"

December 26, 2018

4.0

I like knowing which assignments are coming up and when they are due. It is great to be able to find lectures, homework etc easily, as long as the instructor has organized everything into folders.

Pros

I like how easily you can find the classes you are taking and that you can link updates/course info to your own calendar.

Cons

The problem with Schoology actually doesn't have anything to do with the platform itself, rather the administrators b/c if they are not using it and updating the calendar, it does not help you much. If you happen to have an instructor who is well organized and keeps the info updated, this is great.

### "Easy but not....."

August 29, 2021

5.0

During the early days of our school, we used Schoolology. Although it was very convenient for teachers to use, students had difficulties combining various contents.

Pros

One of the strengths of Schoolology is how easy it is to use. The user interface is intuitive.

Cons

However, it can be tricky to combine various platforms. Google Classroom allows multiple activities with one account, but Schoolology has limits.

Alternatives considered

Reason for choosing Schoology

### "Annoying to use"

August 4, 2018

1.0

I spent six years using this program for school.

Pros

I mean, it got the job done, I suppose.

Cons

It's confusing to use and teachers would just upload their documents randomly so it was often difficult to find things. Schoology has a lot of features that are never used that clog up the home screen. I also think it would be much nicer if you were sent to your list of classes as your home screen rather than the feed of comments. Students often just post annoying comments that then you have to look at every time you log in. It's slow, and seems outdated.

### "My Schoology Experience"

May 25, 2019

4.0

Our school Moodle System requires each student to go to its school system administrator for registration. The system of registration slows me down a lot especially when I have new students coming in later weeks in class. With Schoology, I just ask my students to register with their emails and search for my course and provide them with the access code.

Pros

Schoology is one of the most easiest learning management system softwares available online for free. The features are highly intuitive that you can use it without formal training. You can easily create courses and upload your documents that you want to share with your students. You may set different types of quizzes (short-answer, multiple choice, etc.) depending on the time and day you want to schedule it.

Cons

During my migration from Moodle to Schoology, I downloaded the existing quizzes from Moodle format. I can not upload the quiz texts so I need to re-type all over again in Schoology.

### "Schoology as a LMA "

December 19, 2018

5.0

Schoology is very quick to answer with questions. They work users in making their product better and are changing the way we educate our students.

Pros

Schoology is designed in a format that is very easy to use for the creator (Teacher) as well as the end-user (Student). This Learning Management System is always working to make things better. The networking among users is fantastic.

Cons

It is not designed as a standard gradebook program which is something we fight with parents and students who are still in the mindset of grades and not standard based grading.

### "Digital Learning Gone Wild"

August 8, 2020

5.0

I was apprehensive about the digital learning because of COVID 19 but my son and I were able to get through assignments and get assistance when needed fairly easy. It is just a excellent tool to assist our irreplaceable teachers!

Pros

I like that parents can sign on with students to get assignments and assistance with their work with ease. But most importantly the ease of figuring it out on our own because when they closed the schools the teachers were scrambling all hours day and night to get each of their students set up with this. Amazingly easy.

Cons

Make app more easy to maneuver for sight impaired parents. When you use voice command the app tends to not respond and signs you out.

### "Faulty application"

February 18, 2023

2.0

This application needs some serious debugging and updates in order to fix all the issues in which I've stated prior.

Pros

I don't have a lot of good things to say about this software. It does allow you to keep up with updates from your child's school such as; grades, attendance, and direct messaging to staff.

Cons

The application won't allow you to view course outlines, grades, or any other information regarding your child's classroom and majors. If you use the website instead you can access everything you need.

### "Schoology is a new age learning management system that has student and parent buy in."

April 11, 2018

5.0

Pros

Schoology looks alot like Facebook which is awesome because students don't even realize they are using it to do actual work. The discussion feature allows teachers to teach students how to professionally respond to others work. The work submission side is flawless, allowing students to submit multiple file types. Also, most of it can be utilized for free.

Cons

I would recommend this for students 13 or older. Some of the communication can be monitored but students can access certain things. You need to monitor them.

### "Schoology fits the bill!"

January 30, 2019

5.0

Pros

Schoology does just about anything a teacher wants for a LIMS (Learning Information Management System) or classroom app. It will allow teacher-student interaction, classroom discussion, testing, assignment check-in/check-out, etc. Great product. In fact, I recommend that unless you REALLY need the "skinned" version and enterprise-grade support, you use the free version

Cons

Only, from an IT administrator's perspective, the pressure from sales personnel to upgrade to the paid/Enterprise version of the software.

### "Fantastic, game-changing LMS"

May 16, 2017

5.0

Schoology has transformed my teaching! I have been teaching for almost 18 years and I knew that I was basically teaching to the middle group of my students. I was not differentiating for the various learners in my class. The tools available in Schoology helped me to move my teaching from lecture based to a blended classroom approach. I now train teachers on a daily basis to transform their teaching using Schoology. The Schoology community is one of the most active, supportive groups I have ever encountered.

Pros

Schoology is an easy to use LMS initially as a teacher and student. The best part is that there are so many added features and an amazing supportive community to help you customize and develop your courses even further. The customer service for Schoology is fantastic and the professional learning community in Schoology Educators is active and very helpful to anyone from a beginner to an advanced user. We did a side by side comparison between Schoology - Edmodo - Canvas and Google Classroom and our teachers and students completely supported our adoption of Schoology!

Cons

Some missing features include the ability to lock an entire folder and the ability to navigate quiz/tests more easily.

### "User Friendly for Students and Teachers"

July 21, 2020

5.0

Often times during the course of a class mistakes are caught and need to be fixed. It is very easy and smooth to fix issues while the class continues to run smoothly. The integration with Google Drive is extremely helpful to make things seamless for students!

Pros

I have used a lot of different Learning Management Systems and Schoology is by far my favorite! It is very user friendly on both the teacher and the student end. It is easy to build courses and manage them. It's easy to see student progress and grades. Using folders and all of the different content options, it is very easy to organize the content so that students can navigate it easily.

Cons

Over the years of using Schoology, they have made many updates that have fixed the complaints I've had. My complaints come more from other systems we use, such as single sign on. And the issues isn't with Schoology, it's with students not knowing their login information to sign in.

### "Good student communication tool, but some features are hard to use. "

November 20, 2018

4.0

I think Schoology is a good software that is helpful in school for online submission of projects and documents, however I prefer Google Classroom because it is easier to use. It took me much longer to become acclimated to Schoology than Classroom.

Pros

Schoology is a well designed program that is very similar to Google Classroom. In Schoology, it is easier to organize than google classroom within the certain classes. The teacher is able to create folders that include all the classwork for the students in color coordination. This is easier to view than google classroom, however it is more difficult to view the due dates.

Cons

The hardest part of the software to me is the attachment of files to the assignment. In google classroom, it is very easy to attach videos, files, links, and documents. There is a button that allows students to attach documents of their own, however most of the time in my experience it refuses to attach my document to the file. I have to end up copying and pasting my document into a new document. Also, if a student submits the assignment and then realizes he or she has made a mistake, sometimes there is no option to un-submit it. Also, it will sometimes submit multiple versions of the document as it is edited.

### "Effective LMS for Online Instruction"

July 14, 2020

5.0

I have used Schoology in my classroom for the past four school years. Prior to that, I had tried Moodle, Blackboard and Edmodo for use with my students. Schoology has been the most intuitive to understand and set up. It helps students easily find resources and allows me to integrate numerous online tools, meeting all of my needs as a classroom teacher. This year, our district has moved to requiring us to use Canvas, which really put just how easy and functional Schoology is into perspective for me.

Pros

Schoology is very intuitive for teachers, students and parents providing an easy to use learning management system for all.

Cons

Using the free, non-enterprise, version doesn't provide teachers with student access analytics.

### "Intuitive interface in a package the does it all. "

September 14, 2022

5.0

Intuitive, flexible and powerful.

Pros

Schoology is a powerful solution aimed to schools of all sizes. The interface is quite friendly for both teachers and students (both web app and mobile). Yet behind this deceivingly simple interface lies a powerful set of tools flexible enough to cover most schools needs. The "app marketplace" allows for extending Schoology far beyond its core.

Cons

My only minus for Schoology is the absence of proper report cards. I supposed it is easier to rely on PowerSchool (the powerful school admin software from the same company) or something else, but having this integrated would be a winner.

### "Schoology - K-12 Winner, Not So Much for Higher Ed"

June 23, 2018

4.0

Schoology is an excellent platform for blended learning or situations where online learning is supplemental to face-to-face learning. For higher education, or fully online learning, it has a long way to go to catch up with the industry leaders.

Pros

Schoology is easy to use, provides an intuitive interface, and leverages the benefits of social media. As an Enterprise user, I have access to the full suite of analytics and universal settings, which are powerful. The mobile apps are feature-rich as well.

Cons

Schoology is not the ideal platform for higher education. The interface, while easy to navigate, is juvenile in its icons and profile images. And while it features a social media "wall" of recent activity across one's courses, the interface looks like an old Facebook. Also, Schoology's font, which cannot be altered, even by Enterprise users, is too small. This raises ADA compatibility concerns.

### "Communicate, Question, Appreciate"

November 9, 2015

4.5

Pros

As a vendor, Schoology is top notch. I feel like the crew there is an extension of my immediate work group. Everyone at Support, our Account Manager, and especially their PD team are friendly and professional. I follow many of them on Twitter and we share ideas and thoughts on the product. I'm thankful for their responsiveness and their authenticity about not being able to do everything at all times, but to hear all concerns and appropriately triage them for the product's future. The product is very clean and straightforward. I am a system administrator for our institution, so I am always poking around in the nitty gritty. I may be the sole user at our institution that uses as many aspects of Schoology as I do. From course level settings, to groups, to system wide, I am all over the product and I heartily give my approval. I can navigate through the product with ease and can easily lead others in doing the same. I support our faculty and students on using the product, so it's great to know when I point them to a feature that it will always look and operate the same. I might say that is the BEST part of the product: the uniformity. We previously used Moodle, and our setup was not uniform. Thankfully, Schoology is.

Cons

The product is young and still catered towards the K12 environment. The language, the features, and the community of users are primarily K12. While that's not a big deal, it can often make community events or new features irrelevant to the higher ed environment. The only other downside is that there are not many settings for students with special needs. It is often clunky to create workarounds to accommodate students who need more time in quizzes or struggle to access media content.

### "Your Classroom Experience Will Change with Schoology"

December 30, 2015

5.0

Schoology is an all encompassing learning management system (LMS) that allows teachers to expand the walls of the classroom beyond the school day. Students can easily log into their Schoology account and access class materials, watch embedded videos, practice skills, or respond to class discussions. Teachers can organize and create folders and build an entire course throughout the year. The interface has a social media look that can be appealing for students. However, students treat Schoology as a course and not Facebook. Restrictions can easily be enabled to ensure that student's post before they see other responses. The Schoology App works extremely well in a 1:1 iPad classroom. Students can easily add their Google Drive App and submit assignments from Google Drive directly to Schoology. Teachers have an easy toggle feature that allows them to score student work efficiently without opening new tabs for every student assignment. Rubrics can be easily created and directly attached to the assignment. Schoology does platform with Pearson, Powerschool, and many other online sources. Those services provided do cost money. Schoology is COPPA compliant and has signed the Student Privacy Pledge. Videos and tutorials are easily accessible, and the company is very responsive to questions and suggestions. I was using another popular LMS but found that my students treated it like Facebook. When I switched to Schoology I found that the interface and the assignment feed are easier to manage and sort through. Students treat Schoology as a course and not another form of social media. They respond appropriately and use it as a resource for their learning. Building on-line quizzes take time, but students respond well to receiving the instant feedback. Aa a teacher, I find the assignment feature and uploading from Google Drive seamless. I've been able to leave feedback and not feel overwhelmed reading 100 essays submitted in Schoology. The hardest feature of Schoology is learning and discovering all of the bells and whistles it offers. I would recommend using Schoology with a team of teachers or a colleague. It's much easier to bounce ideas off of each other as you tinker with its features. Once you maneuver through the first weeks of Schoology you won't turn back. I left everything I created on my old LMS and have had no regrets. Schoology is ideal if your looking to go paperless as well.

### "Schoology"

February 5, 2020

5.0

Schoology has allowed me to easily organize my classes and make learning more efficient for students.

Pros

I use Schoology to allow students to access my entire class online. It is easy to set up, and easy for the students to use.

Cons

The program should make it easier to delete participants from a group. I am required to delete each person individually. I cannot check off many names then hit delete. This is time consuming.
