Sage HR is reliable, sensible, and slightly joyless — exactly what you’d expect from an HR platform. It handles leave management, employee records, and documentation efficiently without much fuss, drama, or flair. Value for money is decent because it focuses on doing core HR tasks properly rather than trying to be a flashy all-in-one super system. It’s not exciting, but then again, neither is HR paperwork. Overall, it’s the digital equivalent of a very organised filing cabinet that also sends you polite emails about your behaviour.

Pros

It does the basics very well. Booking leave is refreshingly simple, approvals are painless, and the interface is clean enough that even the least tech-inclined colleague can request annual leave without needing IT on standby. Ease of use is genuinely one of its strengths — everything feels logical, tidy, and sensibly laid out. Document management is handy too: contracts, policies, and HR bits live in one place instead of being scattered across inboxes like confidential confetti. File uploads are straightforward, storage is perfectly adequate for HR needs, and the system quietly keeps track of things you’d rather not think about, like performance reviews and absence records.

Cons

Search functionality feels like it’s trying its best but hasn’t had enough coffee. You can find things, but you’ll sometimes question whether the system is gaslighting you. It’s also slightly too good at reminding you about policies, overdue tasks, and things you hoped everyone had forgotten. The notifications feel less like helpful reminders and more like gentle HR surveillance. Customer support is fine, but very much in the “please read this help article first, then have a little lie down” category.

Using Sage HR overall feels like having a reliable tool that takes a lot of the headache out of day-to-day HR tasks. It’s easy enough to pick up without needing loads of training, and once you get into it, things like tracking holidays, managing shifts, or checking performance reviews just flow smoothly. The self-service side is especially handy because employees can handle their own requests, which cuts down on back-and-forth emails. It also feels reassuring that data is kept safe and secure, so you don’t have to worry about sensitive information getting into the wrong hands.

Pros

Sage HR is pretty easy to get the hang of, even if you’ve never used HR software before. The layout is straightforward, and the self-service features make things simple for both HR teams and employees. Security is also solid, with GDPR compliance and role-based access that keeps sensitive information safe. It offers good value because you get several tools like time tracking, leave management, and performance reviews all in one place instead of paying for multiple systems.Managing employees feels smooth with everything stored in a central database, plus automated requests and self-service options save HR a lot of time. The time tracking features are accurate and flexible, and being able to use them on mobile is great for remote workers. Overall my experience with Sage HR has been very positive, it has helped develop timesheet management and ease of processing of expense forms.

Pros

What I loved most about Sage HR is how easy it was to use and to integrate with sage payroll. This makes it very simple to manage timesheets and expenses.

Cons

My least favourite part of sage HR is the learning curve when initially implementing the system. This system requires time to become proficient

Pros

I like how it integrates with Sage Payroll, with staff information & payslips issuance. The documents signing work brilliantly and the reports on headcount, turnover etc. are great.

Cons

The reports feature in the basic version could be more developed, there is no Bradford-factor built in in the basic version that does not have the absence management and performance bolt-on.

Wie beschrieben finde ich es gut, dass die Anwendungen/Module ineinandergreifen. Auch das man ein Controlling-Modul hat, um Auswertungen zu machen und einen Prozessdesigner, um individuelle Prozesse zu hinterlegen finde ich klasse. Doch Sage muss unbedingt moderner und anwenderfreundlicher werden. Würden wir uns nochmals für Sage entscheiden? Vermutlich ja, weil es auf dem Markt außer den zwei großen Anbietern (die erheblich teurer sind) meines Wissens derzeit keine ähnliche Alternative (Payroll, Personalmanagement, Zeiterfassung, Controlling, Bewerbermanagement, etc. zusammen anbietet) gibt. Aber sobald eine weitere Software entwickelt wird (bzw. die kleineren Mittelständler davon erfahren), wird es schwer für Sage.

Pros

Mir gefällt, das wir nicht mit verschiedenen Systemen arbeiten müssen, sondern die Module Zeitmanagement, Personalmanagement mit seinem Bewerbermanagement, Payroll, Controlling von einem Anbieter kommt und somit ineinandergreift.

Cons

Viele Dinge sind einfach Altbacken und die Ladezeiten brauchen lange. Eine moderne Arbeitsoberfläche sieht einfach anders aus. Zum Teil ist die Arbeitsfläche sehr klein, z. B. im Personalmanagement bei der Weiterbildungserfassung oder beim Stellenplan bzw. unter Stellen ist die Arbeitsfläche auf ein 1/4 des Bildschirms beschränkt (bei einem 32-Zoll Bildschirm noch weniger) und dadurch ist alles sehr unübersichtlich. Der Rest des Bildschirms ist quasi leer.

It's been a decent experience. Aa mentioned somethings should be easier than they are such as updating email addresses to allow employees to see their payslips

Pros

The customer service is excellent. Loading payslips to Sage HR is simple once you are signed up as an administrator.

Cons

It's a bit clumsy to use. I wouldn't consider it intuitive and the customer facing product looks a bit tired and dated. If you enter an incorrect email address in payroll it is not easy to reset the payslips for the employees.

Similarly, initiatives developed in response to feedback session objectives assist us in making our attempts to improve visible.

Pros

When it comes to personnel management, it works flawlessly. It does an excellent job in this regard. Employees can use this service to request time off, vacations, and sick days. It's also great for sharing documentation. It is simple to grasp, modular, and adaptable. Because it is based on the cloud, it is also efficient and scalable. It is particularly developed to turn potential into an advantage for small and medium-sized businesses.

Cons

Though the user interface could be much better, allowing for a more seamless user experience. It is customisable, but the basic remains the same for everyone. It is currently not able to add two events on the same day, and some work is required to fulfil international rules and requirements for multinational corporations.

Certainly cakeHR solves part of the management of my company's talent department, but it is still far from being a suitable software for companies with more than 50 employees. Changing any software in a large organization is complicated and I believe that CakeHR has a great potential to be exploited, so I still hope that they will listen to the users' suggestions and implement the requested functionalities. It would be a good thing if they published the roadmap so that we could know how they are going to develop the product.

Pros

The user interface of the web application is nice. It is easy to use by employees for absence requests. The calendar view is very convenient to see at a glance the planned absences. The talent department likes the performance module.

Cons

General: The administration of the system is difficult. It is not prepared for companies with more than 50 employees because any type of grouping has to be done employee by employee, among other thigs. Support: It is disconcerting, sometimes responding quickly and providing some solution, but most of the time, besides responding late, it gives the feeling of unprofessionalism. Interface: Apparently it is nice, but there are some views, such as the user profile management, where they are limited to show in a single column each one of the fields, which makes very uncomfortable the information visualization. Document management: It is extremely basic and not very efficient. It becomes chaotic. Absences: It more or less works well, although as always, with little flexibility, burdening the talent department with avoidable tasks. Expenses: The same, very basic implementation. For us to be able to use it in my company a couple of additional fields are needed (name and VAT number of the provider) which they promised to add before the second quarter of 2019 but have not yet done so. In general there are few updates. I feel that they were adding new features more frequently at the beginning of the year. Mobile application: It is very basic, almost no functionality. You can't clock in/out from the app, which is essential these days for employees who move around. From support I was told to access the web application from a mobile browser... API: Very basic and incomplete.

I really like the overall platform, especially for the pricing. I was looking for a portal to be able to share paystubs with employees and track time and pto. There are a lot more features for a lot less money than I was expecting. Another thing that was very crucial to us selecting Sage HR was the response time. I needed a solution immediately. I was able to get pricing and the trial demo within an hour with Sage. Other timeclock providers that I reached out to for info, it took days to get a response and then it was "let me know a time we can schedule a call". I had Sage HR set up and implemented and I still haven't received pricing from the 3 other companies, in fact only one of those companies responded at all.

Pros

document repository allows for you to upload documents, as well as share them with your employees. This allows us to upload paystubs, HR documents and communicate changes.

Cons

I think the workflow and functionality could be improved. When I'm trying to filter to a location, once I update an employee I have to go back to the main page and refilter for the location. That's not bad on one employee, but when you update many employees it becomes time consuming. Also, Sage HR has workflow but it's very generic. I can create automated notices and tasks, but can't really do anything with them except complete it. I have more functionality and trust in Outlook tasks, because it allows you to update progress along the way. You can enter the info in notes, but again you have to go through several steps to get there when it could be automated.

Overall, an amazing experience. I did a bit of research as to what CakeHR can do, and when I approached the supporting team, they are very accommodating and patient in regards to the questions I have. Customer service is definitely one of the things that stood out to me, how responsive and helpful the team is - shout out to customer service who has been helping me along the way!

Pros

How easy it is to get a hang of using the app, which also makes it easier for us as a company to onboard members and encourage them to utilise the app accordingly. There are a lot of functions to play around, and I find 90% of the functions applicable to the company, and would be applicable to other companies too. Makes keeping track of employee's goals and tasks easier than ever, with notifications sent to certain individuals frequently yet not too much that they would consider it as spam.

Cons

Wish there could have more functions to track the personal development of employee(s), like having a roadmap or letting them see what is the next step for them to advance to.

Pros

For our company, it greatly simplifies the managing the holiday entitlement of our employees. Our employees appreciate the real-time view of their day-off and holiday balance.

Cons

\- Day Offs: In our company the day offs are flexible. Employees are supposed to take 2 day-offs per week, but sometimes these day-offs are shifted to the next week. (It's always within the same month though.) It would be great to have some way to be alerted/monitor if someone requests more day-offs than they are entitled to. Right now I have to count the day off requests to make sure it's within their day-off limit. (Right now a staff could request more day-offs that they are entitled to.) Having this said, I don't want it to be shown as a yearly quota, same holidays and public holidays, as these days can be taken anytime, while day-offs are not of that nature. However, a monthly quota would be fine. - Time Tracking: What is definitely missing is time tracking (for which we use HubStaff now) and overtime/undertime tracking. Our employees track their working time, and have a floating balance of time. Cake would be the complete and perfect HR solution if there was everything at a glance - the balance of Holiday, Public Holiday, Sick Days, Day-Offs and Over/Undertime. Ideally, being able to differentiate between freelancers and full-time staff - where freelancer time results in salary and full-time staff time results in time balance. Also, overtime should be able to be mutated (to holiday / day-off) or pay-off (define a per-hour amount for the time, calculate the pay-off, deduct the time from the balance.)

It's nice tool to solve a problem of availability visibility in the distributed team, easy to use.

Pros

\- easy UX and UI - convenient dashboard - ability to create different policies for various locations (if you have a distributed team it's fantastic) - integration with a google calendar & slack bot - custom actions to be done after a time-off request is provided - mobile app available

Cons

\- documents storage is not convenient for users and search - had few cases with support team when did not receive a reply in time - would be great to have a follow-up for managers if they do not approve/decline the request of their direct reports - request for few hours per day does not allow to give precise hours, simply \[number\] hours in the first/second part of the day. I would prefer specifying exact hours

Sage HR increased our productivity and aided in better management. Since we began utilizing it, we have been able to track employee attendance as well as work schedules. This makes it easier to manage our workers and reduces downtime. Despite the pricing concerns, I strongly recommend this platform to any developing firm or Entrepreneur.

Pros

I like Sage HR because of its simple and user-friendly interface. The platform is quite simple to use for both companies and employees. The support team is always there to assist you, either by live chat or by booking a call.

Cons

I sometimes perceive login issues that need me to re-login, as well as transaction errors from my location.
