### "Secure, innovative and feature rich, a competitor to all other providers"

February 22, 2022

5.0

I cannot imagine working without GitHub, to be honest. I appreciate that there are many other alternatives these days but GitHub to me is the industry standard that makes developer jobs a lot easier and manageable.

Pros

When you think about source code management you'd think of GitHub straight away. The security is taken seriously on GitHub and the CLI has made using it super simple and convenient from the comfort of your terminal. The offering of integrations with different DevOps tools is a must-have these days that you'd get out of the box with GitHub. Another important factor that makes GitHub stand out is its reliability which in the entire time that I've used it has always been available and has never been down. GitHub has not stopped innovating new features and improving their services after all these years and it's amazing to see that they offer a new feature frequently.

Cons

I'd love to see a feature-rich mobile app from GitHub to allow managing the repositories easier and more practical on small screen devices.

### "Best source code management"

February 10, 2020

5.0

We use it on a daily basis, we have about 100+ private repositories hosted on this platform. It has nice workflow for devops to keep the source code clean, unit tested and deployable.

Pros

Github requires no introduction. It is the most popular source code management among opensouce and enterprise customers. It has native integration with almost all cloud providers.

Cons

Charge per user. In our case we outsource 70% of our development to outside contractors. Every time we add them into our account, it is considered as additional collaborator and takes away one seat. It will be hard for us to keep monitoring both internal and external developers on our team to keep the cost under control.

Alternatives considered

Reason for choosing GitHub

Reasons are mentioned in the previous question.

Most of the developers we hired in the past were not familiar with Assembla and hard time convincing them to use it. It was not as popular as GitHub in the developer community.

### "GitHub : Efficient Cloud Based Git Repo"

August 12, 2021

4.0

Overall very satisfactory experience. also this is microsoft product so wee can trust.

Pros

I liked the ease of getting work done. It simple to integrate with my IDE and other git version control softwares such as SourceTree. Easy to create Pull Requests, comment, manage approvers/set rules for doing a merge. I like how the team easily looks. and contributes to the product development using this tool.

Cons

Specific feature especially integration with other tools such as Jenkins you may need to research a bit. We wanted to have jenkins build kicked off once PR is submitted so it doesnt create conflict in above environment. We got this working however took some time for research. Documentation around that could be improved.

Pros

I'd pick this over Gitea or Gitlab any day. It's such a simple interface with the ability to edit code on the fly in your web browser if necessary. Following repositories and reporting bugs or requesting features is just a click away.

Cons

I have nothing to complain about with GitHub.

### "Essential for software engineers"

April 24, 2022

5.0

It's a must-have for any developer. If you're not using github(or any git platform) you might be doing something wrong. They always try to add new features and improve!

Pros

As a full time software engineer, it's hard not to use any git related products. I've been using Github for a long time and I like their easy to use interface and code browsing. For code browsing, you can view the repository in a online vscode viewer which is really handy.

Cons

I think there's a huge learning curve with using Git and Github if you're a beginner. it's hard to know what you're doing sometimes or how to do some certain things for beginners. Even I have trouble doing/finding things sometimes(ssl certificates/ci cd setups, etc).

Reason for choosing GitHub

It's the most well-known git platform and it's always expanding. A lot of professionals also recommend using Github. I've never tried other softwares but i'm sure github is on top of the list.

### "Best colloboration Tool in the market"

June 21, 2021

5.0

This was a great journey when realized the potential of Github, The version history is very useful in team collaboration and deploying the application. Code Review helps to have fewer bugs in the software.

Pros

Github is very effective in building a project from scratch till launching. The version control feature is really amazing which also helps to organize and track the project. With Team using Github as a collaboration tool is really helpful to have a code review and develop project faster phase. Sponsoring is another amazing feature I prefer to support other developers.

Cons

There is a rendering issue that has no fix and the support team is late to respond to the mails or issue the user-facing. The storage space pricing is high and it consumes data every time when access those data, I'm referring to GitHub LFS here.

### "As a designer who codes..."

September 22, 2020

5.0

Great. I used GitHub at my work daily and for at home for personal projects. It was set up & integrated well throughout our suite and comms internally. Personally, I have a repo set up for my personal sit and I wouldn’t ever choose another tool to host my code repository and handle deployments to production code.

Pros

GitHub has grown leap & bounds over the past few years. They have always offered really excellent tools for developers that is well built and very stable. More recently GitHub has put a lot of effort in creating a more intuitive user experience that makes it simpler to use for both beginners and experienced users. As a designer who isn’t the best with code and development but still knows how to setup and deploy code with GitHub there updates over recent years have been very helpful in day-to-day. Integrations & security settings are excellent as well.

Cons

Nothing much to say here. GitHub can be a bit overwhelming for a beginner but IMO they have been addressing this and making it much more comfortable to get started using. I’d like to see more of the same in other areas as well. Solving merge conflicts in GitHub was the only time I was ever frustrated with the tool.

I personally have been using github for more than 6 years to version my code, to share my passion and also professionally to work in team for big projects as well for the follow-up, the monitoring of the teams and also during the deployment of the different solutions.

Pros

What I like most about github is that it breaks all the ties of distance for collaborative work, making it easier for developers to focus on what they need to do and also to see what others are working on and why they did it through commits.

Cons

Github is an excellent tool its free version has important functionalities all that a developer needs, however the professional version offers more possibilities the offer for companies is a little above the means of the young African companies which are at these beginnings.

### "An assortment of undertakings for associating with GitHub"

March 23, 2022

5.0

We have proactively expounded a lot on the way that to track down a solid engineer, normal obtaining assets are not exceptionally supportive: top designers don't look effectively for new positions and don't utilize ordinary work sheets or LinkedIn. You should utilize specific destinations to track down top tech ability. So how might one track down a designer nowadays? Programming engineers can be found on the stages where the IT people group shares coding tips, works together and gains from one another.

Pros

Administrator takes your code and changes it into a powerful, dispersed pipeline. You can keep on utilizing your current devices, dialects, foundation, and contents. Official forms a rich DAG structure, however such that regards positive designing and doesn't repress it. You can utilize Prefect's useful API to change scripts with insignificant snares; or you can get to the conceded computational diagram straightforwardly; or any blend thereof. It depends on you.

Cons

GitHub is dead-easy to use in the fundamental list of capabilities. The arrangement is negligible and all forming observes guidelines and so forth We had no issues setting up access for different clients and when private archives opened up even in the complementary plan it was an easy decision. Githubs Actions region large assistance - when set up appropriately and can assist with computerizing errands like sending more than a few servers. It is an exceptionally useful asset, however perhaps more convoluted to arrangement then in other comparative products.

Reason for choosing GitHub

With regards to working, I focus on my qualities and client stories regardless of anything else. Keeping that in mind, I've set up a progression of pre-run runs to plan and facilitate explicit conditions inside the setting of PI arranging ages and client stories. Accumulation Refinements empowers us to tweak our preparation collectively, and we have the choice of setting off individual client stories to run after the past run. This actually intends that while we'll be working rapidly, we'll have the option to prepare of time.

### "Easy code management with GitHub!"

June 26, 2022

5.0

We use GitHub heavily, to store our internal/ client based source codes as well. We use on-prem and cloud based solution in equal distribution and the GitHub CLI is also available by default on all our company assets.

Pros

1\. Code Management Structure: GitHub is pioneer and the first in the industry to build the version control system. GitHub native support to branches and various other concepts have revolutionised the way organisations manage their code. GitHub is by far one of the best way to manage and build production grade applications. 2. Cloud based solutions: Although, GitHub can be used on local systems and store code locally, or GitHub on-prem solutions. The GitHub's cloud based solution is secure way to keep your code on Cloud. It is available for use by anybody who can authorise around the globe with an highly available infrastructure.

Cons

GitHub is a very light-weight and easy to use tool. We have never faced any problems, be it related to performance or lack of feature. Therefore, I do not have any dis-advantaged/ con for this tool.

### "github review with my expriance"

overall experiance was very good. and i recommend to all use it

Pros

GitHub has a very much highlighted scope of administrations that take special care of many pieces of the improvement life cycle, from facilitating the code with a large number of devices to look at the code by and large, to having the option to do different things with it, as convey the code in a CI/Disc pipeline. I like the GitHub mixes with other outsider administrations tooGithub is not difficult to utilize. We can share our code records without a second thought. On the off chance that you are genius part, you get offices like making private repos. It is one of the most incredible stage for open-source commitments as welll. We get set up pipeline framework that aides for conveying applications.Extremely huge local area support.

Cons

The degree of control you have with the orders, particularly terminal wall. The administration of variants of a similar code composed by various individuals. the blending, branches all are amazing in GitHub

### "GitHub is awesome."

April 3, 2022

5.0

Overall, GitHub is a solid software to be used by developers. It allows a developer to manipulate and upload their work to the cloud quickly and easily from the terminal and it is very easy to use.

Pros

I really enjoy how GitHub is so streamlined and easy to use. I love how GitHub gives us Git to work with so we can manage our code and see other peoples' code on our machines, One simple command can bring code in and so too can a simple command push code out.

Cons

The thing I like the least about GitHub is that some of the git commands don't work as well as they should and that some of them also do not work at all in my use case. For instance, whereas others may be able to push out code efficiently, I have a hard time syncing my GitHub repos effectively with my production machine and have to use the GitHub website to upload my code

### "Best repo for open source development"

August 29, 2019

5.0

Overall is a great tool to be used for OpenSource or personal projects. I've never used it on a professional environment but just to create personal/open-source projects and collaborate in others. For this purpose I think is the best you can get online for free.

Pros

Well, no need to say that is the most popular repository for open-source projects as almost every open-source or DIY project is hosted there. The reason in my humble opinion is that it offers the possibility to create a complete "site" for your project, not only being limited to a code repository and a readme file, but it also allows to create a wiki, it provides an issue reporting section, good and complete branch management interface, and so on. Personally I do like the releases section, as it allows to publicate together with the downloadable code, all the changes list, bugs fixed and so on, so you can set all needed documentation of each release in there. This is the most important stuff about the public repos and "collaboration sites" it provides. Apart from this, for private use it provides the usual stuff on version controll sites, with te pull request management section, code reviews, comments and so on. As a free repository service I think GitHub provides the best service you can find online.

Cons

Maybe the documentation on GitHub itself is a bit of a mess. Sometimes is hard to find some info on how to do stuff, especially for new users. Once you're used to it, then all goes smooth. Beside that, it lacks the possibility of doing some special git operations, for which you need to go to command line in order to perform them, but besides that minor stuff, it is a great service.

### "Avantage et inconvénient "

February 2, 2023

4.0

Pros

### "Excellent"

May 26, 2022

5.0

Perfect, Source control simplified and straightforward.

Pros

GitHub is just simply awesome, I have used this tool for over 10 years, both as a private and public repository. I have used other equivalents, but I like the ease of use. I just couldn't work without "Pull requests" & commenting. In the olden days there used to be outages which were easy to find out about. However over the last few years I haven't had a single outage. To me this is a prerequisite to software development. Oh I love the general workflow, it's can be made to fit into your pipeline and your organizations dev process. It's one of those applications that does what you tell it to and not the other way round. We have used it in Teamcity & Azure pipelines. Both a great experience from GitHub.

Cons

The only feature I would like is it easier to find PRs that are set for me to review. (ie make it as easy to find PRs assigned as PRs that have been set to you as a reviewer.)

Reason for choosing GitHub

Used GitHub before, perfect choice

### "Best version control system "

July 24, 2019

5.0

We have switched to GitHub enterprise and we realized how it was become easy to browse repository, share and contribute to projects things that wasn’t possible before.

Pros

As a web developer GitHub is built to work perfectly with web projects.it has a lot of features: It’s easy to setup project and add contributors to it. PR system is very complete and it’s easy to follow and request changes from contributors, you can also integrate third party tools to enhance the pull request validation mechanism. GitHub pages make your life easier to deploy your application (mostly the app documentation) by just creating a doc folder in the repo without any extra server setup. These are the features that l’m using daily but GitHub have much more than that (gists, issues tracker,wiki,..) I can spend days talking about it but if you’re looking for a git repository service GitHub is the best choice.

Cons

I didn’t notice any major cons except the learning curve especially if you come from other environment like Svn or TFS.

### "Convenience just a pull away: GitHub, a game-changing tool for developers"

June 18, 2019

5.0

Overall, learning Git and GitHub made life as a developer convenient. We transitioned from manually merging our code to using GitHub. Although it required some practice, it was well worth the time. We realized that we were missing out and how our older projects would have been a breeze if we learned about GitHub sooner.

Pros

Knowing git and GitHub boosted the productivity of my team members and I. We were able to cutback on the times we were doing manual version control work rather than actual software development. It has been very useful to the point that it has been integrated into our project work pipeline. It has been very reliable and our team has never encountered problems in uploading and retrieving the code of others. We are able to document any changes to our code and fix conflicting code which made working in a team much more convenient. Our team of 3 uses the free version which allows us to collaborate with each other, set up a public or private repository, document our bugs, and manage our workflow which already is a lot for a free service. Paid options allow for collaboration of bigger teams, analytics, and other advanced features. Aside from that, a GUI version of the application allows you to visually see the changes in the project and simplifies the workflow. Tutorials and documentations on how to use GitHub, for both the GUI and command line versions are available. Most source code editors now even have GitHub integrated and allows you to do the commands without leaving the editor.

Cons

As great as GitHub is, it really takes some time in getting used to, especially for beginners. It has a steep learning curve and you are most likely going to have to use a search engine for the tasks you want to do. GitHub also has an application with a GUI which is relatively beginner friendly, but even then, the Git workflow is really something that requires practice. I personally use the Command Line Interface and the difficult part is knowing the commands to use in which I solved by printing out a cheat sheet.

### "Github and microsoft have been doing doing great things"

March 27, 2022

4.0

Pros

My most liked product from github is copilot, it has saved me a ton of time and it is very user friendly. My favorite feature is the ability to quickly and easily create new projects from templates. This has saved me a lot of time and hassle when setting up new projects.

Cons

My biggest concern is also what has made github grew so fast in the last years, its acquisition by microsoft, while they are delivering great features like copilot or github actions, pricing models are still not clear for the end user and sometimes it feels like they are building somewhat a monopoly.
