### "The best multi-language support & free post platform."

March 21, 2024

5.0

Overall an amazing experience using the platform.

Pros

The most prominent thing is being able to deploy static websites for free, and choosing names for the domains at a much lower cost. Also the way we can handle versions is beyond expectations. Just fabulous.

Cons

The least liking thing about Github is probably the complicated interface, which can be difficult for non-programming background people at the initial stages.

I enjoy working on repositories on this site, it stores all my projects online and even have a function called github.io that works as a website for your repo.

Pros

I like how it facilitates pair programming for me and the many collaborators around the world I work with.

Cons

Sometimes the server is down, but is only for maintenance and rarely happens.

### "Indispensable for every developer"

June 22, 2022

5.0

Before github our app version control was flawed and sometimes chaotic. Today, we not only distribute safely, but we also have a productivity increase of over 200%.

Pros

Working with version control and issue management has changed our lives as developers for the better (much better). Today the success of our work depends entirely on github and we don't intend to switch tools anytime soon.

Cons

It could be more intuitive. Although its interface suffers with age in the face of new tools, we can't forget that they were all inspired by it.

Reason for choosing GitHub

Github is not a world leader for nothing. The unparalleled superiority of its features and functionality forms the perfect set that every developer needs.

### "Go-to source for code repository and sharing"

January 29, 2019

5.0

Github's popularity is tough to beat and for good reason. It's a reliable solution that makes hosting code repos a breeze. With private repos now becoming free, there's not much of a reason to look elsewhere.

Pros

Github is first and foremost a reliable product. There are rarely any issues with downtime and when there have been, they've affected half the internet. It's so widely used that it's probably considered the industry standard. While I haven't explored other code repositories much, Github has also not given me any reason to explore. It simply works and has a plugin for pretty much any service out there.

Cons

A potential con could be the recent acquisition by Microsoft, although all signs are pointing to a hands-off approach so far. Since then, they've also made private repositories free, potentially allaying concerns further.

### "The center of Git repository management"

April 24, 2019

4.0

Github has always been the go-to repository management solution for me, enabling me and my team to work effectively with our Git repositories over dozens of projects.

Pros

Github is, and always has been, the most popular hosting service for Git repositories. From the outset, Github has provided features such as issue tracking, pull request management and project management for code repositories with useful add-ins such as tie-ups with continuous integration services and hosting services. Its interface is clean and to the point. Social features such as following developers and starring and forking repositories have made maintaining and contributing to software projects all the more easier and fun.

Cons

Github could be a little more lenient with their paid models; specifically on the assignment of team seats on repositories.

### "Good tool to use as your code repository"

October 2, 2019

5.0

I have used Azure DevOps, compare to that Github makes it easy to maintain and manage your codes. Viewing the history and comparing the code is really easy in Github compare to Azure DevOps.

Pros

Github is easy to manage and maintain the codes in cloud. The best thing I like which others could not able to deliver that I can give comments each line of code in each pull requests. Github provides integration to Slack and other platforms where when a new pull request comes I will be notified via Slack.

Cons

I don't find anything least to like about Github. Sometimes I find bit confusing when I try to view my pull request via a branch in Github.

### "Best version control app out there"

September 12, 2019

5.0

Whilst using GitHub it's saved us an immense amount of time, in the past we could be spending hours trying to resolve a mistake in our code, now we can easily compare versions and roll-back if needed.

Pros

GitHub is fundamental to how we work here, we use it to control and version pretty much all of our code used on the website. The ability to easily update and roll-back repositories is great and easy to use. Sorting our websites and scripts into separate repositories has allowed us to easily control who has access to what and where certain code can be used. The community within GitHub is also second to none, you're never short of advice from a fellow developer.

Cons

The user-interface can be rather confusing if you are totally new to version controlling software, especially the terminology which at times doesn't make sense (at least to me). The lack of a free secure repository service, by default all of our repositories are openly available to any member of the public, though you can purchase a private repository

### "GitHub is great for both personal and professional projects"

August 12, 2021

5.0

It helps the collaborative software development and streamlines the process, it's is also great for public Open Source projects

Pros

Raising issues, tracking of commits resolving pull requests, and merge conflicts. In my opinion, GitHub is great as it makes a lot of abstracts version control concepts more understandable by allowing you to visually address them.

Cons

Drastic and sudden changes to the UI, I'm a creature of habit, but it's not a big con.

Reason for choosing GitHub

It's now backed by Microsoft, that is enough of a guarantee.

### "Github Makes Software Development Easy"

February 17, 2022

5.0

Great, I enjoy using Github.

Pros

I like how easy it is to clone down repos and start coding. I also like how ubiquitous Github is among software developers -- when I started my most recent position, I already knew how to use Github and it doesn't require any extra explanation time when onboarding new engineers.

Cons

I really can't think of any cons to using Github.

### "GitHub software review"

December 14, 2019

5.0

GitHub is a great tool for beginner developers to get used to the workings of a Version Control system. It can even speed up the process of source code management but it should also provide integrations with other CI/CD tools for great pipelining and deployment capabilities.

Pros

GitHub is a great VCS tool that provides a great UI for developers to manage their source code. A lot of the functionalities are actually abstractions of the Git commands but it makes everything user friendly and is really beneficial for beginner developers to get their mind around VCS tools in general.

Cons

GitHub doesn't provide any off the shelf integrations with other deployment tools which is useful in many use cases. It also runs into performance issues while dealing with a large source code. This might pose as a big shortcoming in case of enterprise applications.

### "Very well done git versioning website"

September 27, 2020

5.0

Overall my experience has been very positive with GitHub. Git versioning is one of those cases where the less you have to think about it, the better. GitHub integration works like that.

Pros

GitHub does a really good job making it easy to view, track, and manage your git changes. The interface is pretty intuitive, and it allows you to see individual changes as well as what the repository looked like as a whole at a given commit. Additionally, it formats code well, even things like Jupyter Notebooks, which makes it easy to read and see what changed.

Cons

It's not very clear how to use more advanced features such as webhooks, versioning, etc. There's a lot of capability in those features, but it's difficult to find documentation on the process.

### "Best remote version controlling repository service"

July 26, 2019

5.0

It is a great tool to share our projects and showcase our skills while engaging in the projects in a more formal manner. Version controlling is very important for projects but having a remote repository adds up more advantages because of having more security than the local repository. GitHub opens the opportunity to contribute to open source development.

Pros

Pro membership allows us to have private repositories. Compatible with git tools and different IDEs. A great feature is it has built-in support for different file formats like Jupiter notebooks. Can detect features like the language used for the coding code comparing etc.

Cons

Some folder structures in some tools having problems with synchronization with the local repository using the git command line. Most of the errors can be solved by referring to the manual and support can be taken from the community.

### "The git standard"

March 1, 2019

5.0

It’s one of the most used tools in my personal and corporate development time, and if it stays this way, I think I won’t ever not use it.

Pros

Github has gotten so popular, for it being so good, that college science enrolled freshmen begin saying that they know “Github” as it being a skill, not a Git provider. Github is that good. Usability is where it shines, CI/CD, lots of integrations and reliability make it the de facto standard, no doubts. Lately investing more in a social way, Explore and github.dev are awesome ways for the product to steer. Oh, and awesome lists are awesome.

Cons

Con of not providing free repos out-of-the-box has been recently fixed! Probably one minor complain it’s that I can’t check my repository traffic unless it is popular enough. And bot profiles shouldn’t be able to spread so wide.

### "Copilot is game changer "

March 24, 2023

We used GitHub for open-source software management. But now we're using it because of Github Copilot. I think we may fully migrate to GitHub in a few months.

Pros

GitHub Copilot is a game changer from GitHub Team. Now we write documents and specs for the function, and Copilot takes care of the rest

Cons

We only started using it. So far, we don't have any negative feedback.

### "Great way to share your work"

July 18, 2019

4.0

I enjoy GitHub and would recommend it to anyone who wants to give Git a try and/or wants to work on a personal project without the burden of setting up their own server, user access, restrictions, etc...

Pros

I've been setting up and using Git for work, for more than 3 years now. I was used to SVN and Mercurial when I came across Git. GitHub is a very good and easy way to share your work, get access to it from anywhere and get a good grasp at what git can offer. I'm using GitHub for personal project and love the fact that I can do almost anything I've been setting up on our company server for professional project. The free version is perfect to share work and even get people involved, the paid version could be a great tool for small team working on private projects.

Cons

There's nothing really bad about GitHub, my only comment would be on the security side of thing. Not because it's not good, but because it could be a bit confusing when you start to setup double authentication and want to make sure you get proper pushing/pulling access from the command line and/or your software of choice.

A very good tool that allows you to have the traceability of any source code and interact with the work team.

Pros

It is interesting to see how teams, through a powerful tool, can join forces to achieve the best results. With Github it is possible to monitor, review and control software development projects, all in one place.

Cons

To make use of this tool, it is vitally important to know how it works and be previously trained.

### "Securely store your valuable code with in-built version control system - GitHub"

June 17, 2022

5.0

We use GitHub for our internal developments. All our developers are pretty comfortable with GitHub CLI and use it on a daily basis. GitHub is quite durable and we have our PROD/ NON-PROD source codes, safely secued on this portal.

Pros

1\. GitHub is a pioneer in source code management systems. The online console helps you clearly branch your code and store and per your requirements. 2. GitHub CLI is also one of the greatest add-on. Any developer, working from CLI can directly push code to the online portal and therefore share with there fellow developers.

Cons

1\. GitHub documentation: is quite complex to understand. Although, it anwers almost all of your questions, the time it takes to find an answers is quite huge at times. Maybe the overall structure of the documentation shall be revamped and built to enhance user experience.

Pros

It has the solution for all the problems there are millions of resource available on github including API, Softwares, Libraries, Source codes, Project resources and much more we can say github is the solution for each and every thing for solving errors to storing and managing projects.

Cons

Github still needs few improvements for the mobile devices accessing and managing the resources and repositories from mobile device becomes difficult in giving the response and managing the activity of the repositories.

### "It's the industry standard for software development"

April 18, 2019

5.0

When developers need to build software, there is no question that Github is one of the most, if not the most popular code management platform. It helps us keep everyone in sync with the most recent development, share feedback about coding practices and even keep track if issues and bugs that need to be fixed. It's one of the most important tools in the developer's toolbox.

Pros

It's not limited to a "git repo" but rather a fully fledged, team focused source control management platform. I love the simple UI, the powerful Issue tracker and Pull Request Management features. As a developer I find it very convenient, powerful and necessary to be able to manage my projects.

Cons

Private repos used to be an issue if you were a hobbyist developer, or had a small team. It's no longer an issue today so I don't think there's anything negative about Github right now.
