### "GitHub - The most essential development and version control tool"

April 24, 2021

5.0

I regularly use Git for our projects. It is really a great tool for collaborative software development.

Pros

GitHub is multiplatform and allows adding any number of collaborators in a repository. Further, it allows assigning individual rights to collaborators. it provides the option to choose between public and private repository too.

Cons

There is a learning curve, specially, if you are using git command line tool. However, there are multiple free git GUI available.

### "One Stop Softwarre/Tool for Version Control management"

October 23, 2022

5.0

Github's web interface hosted on Github.com makes it easy to manage changes done remotely and by geographically distributed teams, to view deployment statuses, code conflicts etc. It makes the overall process of code management/hosting and sharing very easy and relaxing compared to how it could be done without the tool.

Pros

Collaborative coding environment for the developers / SDET professionalsAble to work with both Public and Private repositoriesAutomated ci/cd, Issue tracking, and PR ApprovalsSecrets managementDetailed Wiki pages for most widely used projectsPeriodic code & Secret scanningVulnerability alerts in public repositories.

Cons

Better ways to visualize/auto-resolve conflicts features should be developed by GitHub.GitHub doesn't auto-patch code/third-party libraries vulnerabilities and it requires manual intervention to handle.

### "Version control power"

March 22, 2019

5.0

It allows the develop of multiple features at the same time, merging the codes from different branches, recover features and configurations. It can really be a project saver as it allows also project portability and versioning of it. A couple of times I've seen a feature go wrong and be saved by backtracking and reverse. It's a must in any software development project.

Pros

Github its a very important techonology piece when it comes to software development as it allows for version control in the code for several projects and members, it is important to know how to use it and keep good practices, but it will save the project multiple times over its life course.

Cons

There are a lot of technical things to understand behind it to use it at its full power, there are client apps that can ease the use of it, but some knowledge and good practices are a must.

### "Best GIT SCM tool for enterprise use"

September 3, 2019

5.0

Github is the best GIT based source code repository tool available in market and aids in code quality control and better efficient code reviews. It provides HA capabilities to ensure zero downtime.

Pros

Pull request feature, excellent technical support, good gating features to ensure quality code gets merged to master, integrated with most CI tools and SDK's in market.

Cons

Github pipelines needs improvement so that we no longer rely on CI tools for integration and deployment orchestration.

Alternatives considered

[Bitbucket](https://www.capterra.com/p/233341/Bitbucket/)

Reason for choosing GitHub

Better product features and roadmap planned for next couple of years. Technical support was also one of the factors.

### "Review on Github"

April 2, 2021

5.0

Github is practically the best platform to manage code when it comes to both work and studies. I use it daily and I have no problem at all in managing different types of code versions. No doubt, it's the best.

Pros

The best choice for simply hosting any type of code. Plus, you can manage all your code versions with a very large team which is one of the major outstanding features of github. If you know how to use it, it's super handy. Also, the biggest advantage is that it's free.

Cons

The one drawback I see is that if you don't know how to use Github in the first place it could be very confusing. The first time I used it, I spent hours trying to figure out how to create a branch with slashes in it.

### "GitHub, The best collaboration platform on earth."

February 8, 2021

5.0

Overall, GitHub is so essential for students and profetionals. It helped me a lot on my first project.

Pros

GitHub is a great SCM platform. GitHub is known as a provider of internet hosting for software development. GitHub provides awesome collaboration features. Bug tracking is best of them. GitHub users can share thoughts and ideas among thousands of their IT developers worldwide. GitHub provides cool features for team management. Multiple developers can work on a same project and able to get live updates on the progress of the project. GitHub is quite easy to use. Beginners or students can easily get help form GitHub on their project.

Cons

GitHub premium version cost is little expensive for students and only premium users can use all repositories. Except this point .....GitHub is best

### "Excellent version control"

April 12, 2024

5.0

Pros

Multiple developers can work on the same repository, making changes and merging their contributions quickly and easily. Provides a version control system that allows you to keep a record of all changes made to the project.

Cons

When having public access to repositories on GitHub, it is important to take into account the privacy and security of the projects. Additional measures need to be implemented to protect sensitive information and prevent vulnerabilities.

### "GitHub makes source control, code sharing and deployment easy"

July 23, 2019

5.0

Ideal platform for storing and saving code to prevent issues with versioning. Makes it easy to collaborate and access code without problem

Pros

GitHub is known by all as peerless in its features, usability and flexibility. The recent acquisition of it by Microsoft was cause for concern by some, but the new features (like unlimited private repositories for free) have been exceptional. I have numerous personal and professional projects on GitHub, a number of sample projects hosted and have shared source code for software with colleagues and collaborators. My job as a Software Engineer would not be possible without GitHub

Cons

No cons. There is a learning curve at first, but it's minimal (being cautious about rebasing and such!)

### "Perfect for programmers (Manage and Synchronize projects)"

April 26, 2022

5.0

Best for programmers both beginners and experienced.

Pros

GitHub has so many things I like. Open-source software is often found on GitHub, so I frequently browse the site for source code. Every development tool I use integrates with GitHub by default. I use Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code with GitHub to get the work done all for free.

Cons

Not easy to use for newbies, it will take a bit of time to understand how to use it properly.

By using GitHub, I can manage and shared my code so easily. The way GitHub manages our code is amazing. I always prefer this kind of web apps. I have mentioned some amazing features of GitHub below. - Allows us to manage repositories through GitHub’s web interface. - GitHub Command Line Interface. - Drag and Drop Gist Code.

Cons

There are some rules and regulation for implementing CICD. It could be more effortless.

### "Github Review "

April 13, 2019

4.0

The best thing about it is that it gets thee job done! Once you get the hang of it you're good to go

Pros

Branches are shown one at a time and you switch from one to the other using a dropdown. Simple, gets the job done. One can get a lot of stats regarding each contributors usage and the ability ptotect a branch by setting a certain number of reviews to be required before merging a PR. Its integration with third party systems for CI/CD is amazing too. Wonderful

Cons

Resolving merge conflicts on the remote is not the nicest thing you can do on github. Additionally, how about seeing the overall structure of the repository by default? Branching structure etc. I usually have to go to extensions to see that. Also, for noobs, which id say I was a few months back, its very difficult to understand the nomenclature. Perhaps try easily mention what terms like PR and commit mean, their relation, why one would want to create a PR/Commit etcetera

### "Highly Reccomend "

February 3, 2022

Pros

Overall, the program is very easy to use, has source control and contains what is basically stack overflow within each project to help debug it.

Cons

I honestly do not think Github lacks anywhere, if there is a need you have, Github probably does it and well at that.

### "Code sharing was never easy until..."

December 18, 2018

4.0

GitHub has been a great help overall. It took me a while to get use to it but I dont see any problem using it after excelling it.

Pros

In a multi-person team coding project all we want is that we get an access to team work. With GitHub its so easy to keep track of the code and share our code with the team members . We are also able to moniter all the work done by each team member for example, how much contribution was given by a particular team member, we are also able to track the progress of the development as GitHub keeps track of all the commits made and when were they made. GitHub can be used for almost all kinds of programming language. Good IDE's have GitHub plugged in already so now we dont even have to worry about installing the plugin for github

Cons

Sometimes, if we do not know how to properly pull, commit and push our code we end up in a really bad situation since all the old and the new code will be messing everything up.

### "Github makes version control simple and beautiful"

December 10, 2017

5.0

Pros

Github is an amazing service at a great price. When was the last time that a company lowered their monthly subscription price?! These guys did. They really seem to put users at the heart of it all. There are many options for hosting git repos, but github is the easiest - especially when working on multiple teams in collaborative efforts. I use github in conjunction with terminal and CLI but I believe it can be integrated with any of the git apps out there. The beauty of git is that you can share code repositories with the whole world. In my particular case, all of my repos need to be private because they are custom websites, but github makes it easy with unlimited private repos. There's absolutely no reason for me to search for a different solution.

### "Best service for hosting git repositories, but free tier has limitations"

December 6, 2018

5.0

I've been using Github for years now, mostly to browse open-source software I use on some projects. I've also hosted some public repositories, and in those cases the collaboration feautures are top-notch. Issues, changes, pull-requests, fork-handling, discussion, voting. Everything you might need to do when working on software with other people is beautifully managed here, with options for everything and many guides and tutorials to get you familiar with how they work. And even without all those guides, the tools they give you are very easy to use. My only gripe is the need to pay for a premium plan when you want to host a couple of private repositories: free accounts are limited to hosting public repositories. If you need collaboration tools on private repositories, or even on public ones, going with Github is a no brainer. But if you want to host a few private repositories that are only accesible by yourself, or repos in which no collaboration is going on, then maybe alternatives like Bitbucket are a better option.

Pros

Github is probably the easiest service to use and learn. Collaboration is top-notch with support for forks and pull-requests, discussions and more. Lots and lots of open-source repositories.

Cons

Free tier only lets you host public repositories. Other competitors give you private repositories in their free option.

### "Complete project , task and share using github"

September 18, 2020

4.0

Overall GitHub is good to use for collaborative project mainly in software industry it's really useful for sharing code with ease.

Pros

GitHub is really useful for carrying out collaborative project with friends. It's can be used to develop projects mainly it makes really easy for our open source project. There is also integration option which makes its fascinating. It has really impressing factor that is tracking changes in the code.

Cons

One of the drawback of GitHub is pricing . Although it offered private repository , for high value project it's not that safe because anyone who can login can directly access the project. Also I found it difficult to use for beginners.

### "Review of GitHub"

November 4, 2021

5.0

Overall, GitHub is definitely the best platform for code development and management. It works on Linux, Mac, and Windows. Code permission and security, milestone tracking, debugging and bug tracking, pull and push request, etc. are mentionable advantages.

Pros

GitHub is a helpful, handy, and well-managed software. It not only provides nice features for people to work on the same projects, but also support various appearance of the originals. I started to use GitHub at university due to my major, and I enjoyed different aspects of it. There is a large number of open source projects and people can contribute to them. The repository is a good way to manage, debug, and work on the code both individually and massively.

Cons

There is nothing I do not like about GitHub. It is truly "an excellent synchronizing and collaborating development tool". However, I find that GitHub is not very friendly for beginners and some memorization is required. You have to memorize some commands to go through everything quickly, especially the command you use every day.

### "Mitigation Hub"

October 16, 2018

4.0

I am a BIG fan of GitHub. This software allows me to integrate with my other applications and also allows me to manage my projects. "KANBAN" board is really efficient and can be integrated with asana. I like it because any changes I make , it reflect on GitHub automatically and my developers are notified which is the priority for the deployment. I recommend this application to most of the comapanies who uses microsoft technologies.

Pros

The way repository has been configured is amazing. I like review/approval process of this application. One can see code merge, code conflicts and resolve it in real time. Best experience while I worked as Developer as well as PM.

Cons

This application doesn't have file sharing and conversation windows, it would be a great help this application can have that because it would be very convenient to have everything in one place.

### "The best way to manage your codebases."

Use it every day for the last 8 years, the central place for collaboration around sourcecode.

Pros

The most advanced platform for source code management. It has powerful features allowing to customize access policies for admins and simple interface for developers.

Cons

### "Innovative Software Allowing Effective Project Management "

October 30, 2022

5.0

My overall experience with GitHub is positive considering the multiple features available.

Pros

I like the multiple features in the software dashboard for allowing users to create new projects and share data sets with team members. The software settings allow users to prioritize tasks according to the team workflow. I love the ease to upload large data sets without worrying the tedious glitches. The software is compatible with wide range data file selection.

Cons

I do not like the software glitches that could occur in some browser settings. I suggest that software developers create plans to incorporate new browsers. I also do not like the sign in process to include phone authentication features. I also suggest that the developers think about the strategies to extract data in other file formats.

### "GitHub is a heaven for coders like me."

May 14, 2022

5.0

Overall it is working fine for me until now, there are lots of times I got into trouble but as there are too many tutorials available I find my way somehow.

Pros

The community of GitHub is so much large, and because of this beginners do not feel that overwhelmed compared to other competitors, also It is not that difficult to use, its integrations and extension are available in almost every software development tool, plus it is improving with every update, just recently they added a themes feature, and we can choose themes from multiple options like light, light with extra contrast, dark, dark with extra contrast and many more.

Cons

There are too many things that can be done by using Git only, I wish some of them could have been done on GitHub itself. E.x: rebasing, commit message edit, etc.

Experience was very very good with GitHub and would recommend to every Technical student.

Pros

I joined GitHub Pro when I was 2nd year student and my experience was very good with this platform. It was helpful when I first launched my domain and website, when I shared my project with world.

Cons

Even though it is very helpful for students and provide free premium for students initially it is very expensive for them to by after Pro expiration.
