Even if you're not working on an open source project, developers gain a lot here in the way of their online profiles and rapport. Users can easily share and communicate with each other. Governance can be handled through robust permissions over pull requests and protected branches which makes life a lot easier since we don't have to developer other tools to manage this. Pros The Github website is reliable and easy to navigate. Pricing is very reasonable. UI tools are good a available for different platforms. Extra features like issues and build tools are now integrated and quite useful. Nearly all developers are already on the platform making it easy to onboard them. Cons There have been a few (not many) painful service interruptions. One of these involved service hooks and caused us some trouble with our build automation. Since it is very complete, it serves you to have a profile in style I would say of this software to connect with people and get a job based on the skills you have and that can be seen with the public projects that you upload to your repositories and folders. Pros Being able to collaborate on different projects and the interface is intuitive, I would say that what characterizes Github can be task management because it can help you to even have work thanks to the projects that you can save and that is public. It is the software par excellence for the developer community since it has codespaces to use Visual Code and practically everything there. Cons I don't really have a complaint about this software, as it has everything a developer asks for and can use as a cloud or a drive to have all the possible collaborative work and thus have further updates from the members. I also use Github to download open source projects, which helps me to work on ideas without "reinventing the wheel". I used to use Sourceforge before Github but, in my opinion, Github is much a better system, especially with the documentation and bug tracking features. I recently started using Github to host my own website as well. So far, my experience with Github has been great. Pros Github is a great version control system that allows me to store and share my coding projects, be aware of the contributions of others, and download projects from others to use for my own purposes. I also really enjoy the fact that I can use Github to host my own website. Cons I wish the system allowed to keep track of others contributions while they are working on them. I faced situations in which conflicts happened because I was working on a part of a software at the same time as someone else. Usually, the coding tasks are coordinated to avoid conflicts like that, but there are still situations in which conflicts arise.
