We have always been early adopters of new features such as Workspace and the Word add-in because we see the potential in what these could do for us and are willing to work through bugs to get to a great end result. We tend to implement and roll out new features pretty quickly, months usually, with the thinking that we want to get everyone using it and we'll work out issues as we go. Any pain has been worth it. CityView is a powerful piece of software and if you're willing to put time into really learning how to administer it you can make it do pretty much whatever you need it to! Pros Workspace is great, easy to use and runs through a web browser so there's nothing to install on client computers. They continually add new features to it. Additionally really like the Workflow tool, makes the creation and modification of your workflows so much easier, it's a visual map of the workflow. I know that the daily users love the GIS mapping tie-in and would be lost without it. Cons Right now administration of the software is done through a few different programs and is a bit convoluted at times, however they are working on making one new tool that will do everything - Configuration Console, so once that's completed it'll be alot easier to maintain. Our lobby used to be filled with lines of people with rolls of plans under their arms, and documents in hand. Hard working people would need to take time away from their jobs to submit paperwork to our offices. Now, those lines have disappeared and there is just a slow stream of people that come into the lobby. Most of all our document work, and fee payment is conducted online, at their convenience. More than once I have gotten the comment that "If other counties were as easy to work with as yours is, I might be doing more business in those counties." We have friendly, talented staff that is always willing to help. CityView helps us conduct friendly business as well. It just works for us all day, every day. Pros CityView is essential to conduction business in our county. We are approaching 12,000 activated portal users that use the CityView Portal application 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The CityView Portal is a one-stop website, where citizens and businesses can make applications, check on the status of those applications in real time, pay any fees, schedule inspections, and upload documents. We utilize CityView Workspace internally to track our Business Licenses, Permitting and Planning applications. In reviewing plans, the Bluebeam software allows us to markup plans in our Electronic Plan Review to better communicate back to the designers and engineers the required changes that are necessary. These markups also flow into our corrections letters that are emailed back to the primary contacts on the permit or planning application, as well as being available immediately on the CityView Portal. Approval letters and Certificates of Completion and Certificates of Occupancy work the same way. Our in the field, our building inspectors and our planning engineers utilize CityView Mobile via a cellular Internet connection. They can review documents, check conditions, create checklist items and complete inspections. We conduct approximately 30,000 inspections every year, all through CityView Mobile. But what I like most about CityView is that it rarely limits us. It is flexible in configuration, workflow and business rules. Rarely are we "stuck" with something that CityView can't do. Cons CityView is hard work to get up and running. You'll need a "champion" to help push through issues. In some ways, CityView is so flexible, that it is hard to come up with best practices. It's hard to fault the software for that, however. After the hard work, the CityView software will pay for itself in spades for years to come. We continue to expand the footprint of CityView Suite and will soon include their Electronic Pan Review (EPR) functionality to our program. Pros CityView Workspace is a user-friendly web-based program that we utilize for our building permitting and code enforcement tracking. It provides a strong and versatile platform for our entire permit and enforcement process. Cons CityView's main office's are located in British Columbia, which creates a three hour time difference. It does allow direct photo downloads in the field Cons the desktop version is horrible, it is not at all user friendly and is very reminiscent of software programs you would have used used 10+ years ago, very clunky and not at all intuitive. I have used the system for almost a full year on a daily basis and I still struggle with the functionality. The programs was designed by software engineers not in-field users and it shows in every aspect of the product.
