Communication Director Government Administration Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Great if you have time to learn to use it" November 21, 2016 4.0 Cision is an incredibly powerful tool, but there is a significant amount of startup time. And while there are quite a few useful search parameters, it still takes a fair amount of culling by hand to get the right media lists. It's incredible for larger national and regional outlets, but we did find it to be a bit light on info for smaller ones. Overall could improve but I don't think there's anything better available. Pros It is an incredibly exhaustive list of media contacts with hard-to-find contact info Cons Sometimes you get oddball search results and the smaller regional media outlets are represented only very lightly in some cases. September 21, 2017 2.0 Pros It's pretty easy to use. There are TONS of results and it's a very large database. There are a lot of ways in which you can break down your search (locations, topics, keywords, names, etc.) Cons The topics are pretty broad and it often leads to pitching the wrong journalist. A 1 stop shop to manage all PR functions. Pros What I liked most was the ability to track, manage, and monitor all your social media activity and track how users are engaging with your company / brand. The analytics and insights you gain from this can be invaluable to the success of a company. Cons You need to have a fairly significant PR budget to order and use Cision, not necessarily doable for a smaller company. Review Source KS Katie S. You can filter by criteria like location, industry, subject, etc, allowing you to tailor a media list depending on your specific needs. Cons The database willingly includes contact information for media who do not want to be contact by PR professionals. If you do not pay attention to this included information, you risk contacting these individuals and hurting your brand's reputation. At times you will find errors or duplicates in your list, so it's best to download and review in full to weed out any discrepancies. Review Source SS Shalia S. Pros Ease of use is one of the biggest pros about this. Their customer support is also outstanding and anytime I had a questions or was curious about a certain feature I got an automatic response. Cons Not tailored for smaller businesses that don't have a huge budget. There was no way to reduce the number of features given as well which would have maybe changed a few things. I love using this product, and hopefully it will give me even more options in the future to get my company out there. Pros As a travel company, we have to work hard to stay in the spotlight to compete with online bookings. We found a couple companies that would prefer using us, so it was quite helpful. We loved the PR capabilities and saw a lot of traction on our content, but it wasn't worth the high cost compared to how frequently we needed to use the software's capabilities. It's hard to download the lists but I'm told you can? Cons You really get what you pay for with Cision. The interface is cheap and clunky, they don't monitor as many titles as you'll need them to, the press lists are far from definitive and their customer service is poor.
