Kids have also learned different ways to keep you from seeing what they are doing. If they were logged in for another class then they must log off and turn back on sometimes in order for you to see them. Pros Ease of acces Cons The constant refresh and that it stays on their page even if they have moved to another site. It doesn't find that site until it refreshes again. It has a nice ease of use and allows the user to block sites prior to a lesson or while discovered. It allows individual feedback to students to redirect them without drawing attention to the matter. These subtle reminders are effective in the classroom setting for helping with classroom environment. Pros Ease of use and monitoring ability of students. Cons Does not always seem to pick up all students each time for some reason. That could also be a network issue that I am not aware of on the end of my school and not the vendor. I can quickly and easily see if all students are in the correct location. It is also very easy to block a student and send them a quick message. (Can't review about value for money as the corporation pays, and I have no idea what they pay. I've also never used the customer support.) Pros Ease of seeing all the screens at once. My kids are SO much better about staying on the correct sites since they know I monitor them. Unfortunately, sometimes in the afternoons, the system is slow or doesn't work. Getting into specific monitoring is not user-friendly, though possible." January 10, 2018 3.0 Pros I appreciate the capability to see all screens at once. Also, messaging students when they are off task can be helpful. Cons Specific monitoring takes a lot of time to set up and there can be glitches. You have to click several places, and the more you click, the slower the software runs. I also am able to quietly redirect students if they are not no the correct site. The only issue we have had is that 3 of my students do not have the correct email address in dyknow and we have called to get them changed over 3 months ago and the change still hasn't happened. Pros Easy to see each student and block sites Cons We do not have the power to correct mistakes in the student emails used to monitor the students. Therefore the students I can't view have never been fixed even with calling customer service. It enables me to monitor students in a self directed Virtual Reality class while I'm teaching an art lab. This tool enables me to be connected with all of the students in my classroom much more effectively. I am able to complete formative assessments easily and monitor their self directed learning with accuracy. Pros Easy to use and communicate with students directly. Has support for all devices that our school uses. Good reporting. Cons The reports are limited to certain criteria whereas our school would value the ability to report on more robust data points. Does not currently support mobile devices, which is unfortunate because there is a lot of iPad use within the classroom. Used the software for: ### "DyKnow--Formative Assessment King" March 17, 2017 5.0 DyKnow is primarily used at my school for monitoring kids' internet activities, but I have found it an excellent tool for starting out my classes with short assessments. By asking multiple choice, true-false, and yes-no questions, I am able to see where individual students are in their understanding of math concepts. I base my questions on past day's work, as well as as a precursor of upcoming topics. Students with correct responses are oftentimes asked to "prove" their knowledge, while if there is a preponderance of incorrect results, we can then beef up those area of study. Like most educators, I am leary of "the latest things," as typically they become passe quickly, but DyKnow is a product that I hope to use for many years to come. This software doesn't quite do that, but it does help tremendously at keeping students off sites and programs that they should not be on, which is one less thing I have to actively monitor, giving me more time to spend teaching my students. Pros Monitoring, and locked screens. Also I like using the checks for understanding. Cons I can't figure out how to use it on my ipad. A computer can be a distraction for a lot students, but with Dyknow an instructor can limit the amount of websites or application a student can access. The product itself, to be honest, is good enough for monitoring purpose. Because our students are using Chromebook, and Google G Suite, and I was recommended to unblock https://accounts.google.com/chooser, which will definitely affect students who want to retrieve their own personal gmail on the Chromebook. The customer service is really disappointed. I want to upload all the student's directory onto DyKnow, however, there is nobody help me to do that. I provide the whole list of students to customer service, no action to make it happen yet...... I can tell how well students are progressing through their assignments, and can help keep them on track, even from across the room. I can also limit the available online distractions during class. My only concern is the response time - particularly upon logging in to a class and logging out, but that's a minor detail compared to all this application can do! Pros I like the ability to filter out or filter in certain sites/apps. Cons The time it takes to close out of the class and the ability of the kids to get past the software - problems that we'd probably have no matter what software we used.
