Pros: It can handle a lot of inventory and a lot of different skus. The POS module is decent as far as keeping track of a lot of customers and barcodes. If you do opt for this software, stick with the very basic POS module only.

Cons: There are sooooo many things....

First off, the platform itself is extremely outdated. The only people who like this software are companies who have been using it for more than 10 years and haven't tried anything newer.

Our IT guy HATES it, and TriTech wants you to spend thousands of dollars on an old-school server set-up because it can't be set up with any sort of cloud system. One thing to keep in mind is the relatively cheap up front cost is just the beginning, as the hardware costs are going to get you BIG TIME when you have to keep going backwards in time and adding hardware, IT, and specialized accounting costs on top of everything else (did I mention our accounting costs quintupled when we started using AIMsi?!).

You can hardly ever correct a mistake, and we found this out right away when even TriTech support messed up trying to help us correct a simple mistake early on. Making corrections is tedious if not impossible, and yet the program is so counter-intuitive it's very easy to make mistakes even if you've been working with it for awhile.

The accounting module is a joke, and this is where I feel like it was truly a bad business decision. We went live officially in 2016 after practicing for about 6 months, and after 11 months of trying to get off of QuickBooks completely and get on only one reporting software we finally gave up on AIMsi as we started losing sight of numbers and business goals.

Bottom line, there are way better options out there than AIMsi.

Overall: We gained POS software with serialized inventory track-ability from this software, something that we were lacking with QuickBooks.

It's a shame - good ideas, bad execution.

Comments: There are a lot of good ideas in this software, but things like a staff that's not on the same page, and a long-awaited refresh of their base tech keep AIMsi a frustrating software package. We stay because our lesson program is to big to be handled by any other solutions we looked at, but I would advise others to hold off until their promised rebuild is released.

Pros: Lesson management is good. Inventory management and sales are serviceable.

Cons: Built on outdated technology, which means the system will get slower and more bloated as your business grows. Simple ancillaries (like date lookup) require Googling to find outdated Microsoft files when you replace computers, and support won't have those files available. E-commerce is excruciatingly complex to execute; why must it be this complicated when options like Squarespace and Shopify exist? They don't require the user to learn XML to take full advantage of their features. The PO system is convoluted, the workflow makes no sense. Inventory management could stand to lose some processes to speed things up and make it more understandable. Reporting doesn't make much sense, either. But the most frustrating part for us has been the staff. Calling support is rarely a good experience; it often sounded like someone was paging through a manual to find a solution. Recently, I found out why: support is tiered, and we are on the lowest tier. I've been using this software for 5 years, and no one at TriTech offered us an upgrade. Online help files don't offer much more in the way of assistance. Navigation is clunky, and entries are often incomplete or outdated. We've also experienced the classic "sales promises features that developers say can't be done" routine. The most recent involved running their product on a Windows tablet - sales said it could be done, but later, support said it was only possible using Remote Desktop Protocol (a thing I wish I knew before I purchased the Windows tablet & an additional license). More than once, I've been scolded by sales for "not understanding how [their] software works." They require you to buy gift cards & hardware through them, at a substantial markup. I'm getting frustrated just thinking about this stuff...

Great feature set and support. Very poorly implemented.

Comments: The product has features that no other has, especially for the musical instrument rental business. However, it is showing its age. The worst thing is that it wasn't written well even to standards that we had 30 years ago. (I started in the IT business in 1986.) I would recommend it, with a great many warnings, to a musical instrument rental or similar company, but absolutely not to anyone else.

Pros: The feature set for the rent-to-own business is good. So far as we have been able to discover, there is no other product at any price that supports our business. (If there was, I would be on it like a duck on a June bug.) The support staff is excellent!

Cons: I would have fired an experienced programmer or seriously chewed out a beginner 30 years ago if they designed a user interface that was so poorly implemented. You never know from screen to screen what you have to do to do a "find." Sometimes you have to hit Tab for the program to work, sometimes you have to hit Enter. The mere fact that in a good many places the programmers apparently elected to use the tab key or enter key events rather than the OnExit event is inexcusable. (Click the OK or Save button without first tabbing out of a field and there is a great chance that the changes to the field you were last in were not saved.) Things as simple as standard naming conventions for naming reports are just an example that someone either didn't understand design or didn't care. (The reports aren't in report name order because some inept person decided to put "Print" or "List" in front of the report name, thereby making the lists sort out without rhyme or reason. Having a table of variables to STORE system options is fine. It's even okay for a first release. However, how a system that has been on the market this long without having a user interface on said table indicates a huge lack of caring. The user interface flaws cannot be excused by the fact that the programs are old. The design flaws would not have been acceptable in a DOS or even a CP/M program. The back end modules are simply sad. The fact that they decided to write the back end all over again in the new system that they plan to release someday indicates a huge lack of judgment. Why the devil would one reinvent the wheel, especially after doing such a poor job the first time around, when one could interface to any of several well-written, mature, user-friendly and well-supported G/L, A/P, A/R, etc. systems and focus on the specialized modules that make me use AIMsi to start with? (QuickBooks immediately comes to mind.) Doing so would save well into six figures of development cost, give one a solid base on which to build, and even give one a huge marketing opportunity by being an enhancement to a widely-used system rather than being a home-rolled thing. It would also give me some hope that the new release would be available in my lifetime. They are simply burning man-years of programming effort and stretching lead times unreasonably. As bad as the G/L module is, their "Purchase Order" module simply boggles the mind. They make a sad effort to somehow combine P/O and Customer Order Processing while making both the COP features and the interface to A/P damned near unusable. One need only looks at the database design to see that whoever wrote the COP programs had never actually worked on one before. No Order Header and Order Line Item tables? Really? They sort of sludge everything together in something that they dreamed up from scratch. Even the terminology used for field names and labels is non-standard. "Picked" has a very well understood meaning in the COP industry. They have a whole new definition. I could go on forever...

Recommendations to other buyers: If you have a musical instrument rental business, you probably need this product. I don't know about the gun and bicycle features because I haven't used it for those. Otherwise, RUN!

Pros: Does not have glitches or communication errors. Data that has been input stays there forever. Interface has never changed, ever. So if you are familiar with it, there is a comfort factor.

Cons: The user interface has very few, if any, task stream allowances or cross linking between data entry areas.

The typical interaction with Aimsi requires starting from the home screen and navigating the "Module" you need, selecting the "Find," searching for the correct customer account, pulling up the relative info about them.

Then...

Restarting from the home screen, module you need to add or edit part of the changes that are needed, "find," find that account again..

Then...

Restarting from the home screen, module you need to add or edit the other part of the changes that are needed, "find," find that account again...

While there are hot keys to speed up this process it is still a very primitive workflow. Newer systems have you choose the customer account first, then proceed to enter new data, while Aimsi requires finding the module, and then the account, over and over again.

Networking your store for Aismsi to work off of one of your local PCs requires above average networking skills. Backups and hardware upgrades are your problem and responsibility. You will need someone on call unless you happen to have above average IT skills.

Overall: Years of data can be searched through. We currently use it for recurring billing via credit cards for monthly rental and lesson tuition payments. Those recurring charges must be manually triggered every day though.

Pros: Accounting

Rentals

POS Touchscreen support

Integrated Credit Card

Employee Management

Membership Modules

Integrated Gift Cards

Inventory Control

Invoice Management

Cons: The systems don't all share one checkout - each type of transaction (rental, station, contract payment, merchandise sale) must be rung up separately

The payroll is not very robust

Overall: Been using the software for two years now, and it seems to provide a solution for everything. I wish there was a bit better integration across the different modules, such as allowing station rentals, short-term rentals, long-term rentals, and contract payments to all be made on the same checkout as regular sales orders, instead of needing to process them all at once. The payroll area also needs some improvements, it is good for recording payroll expense, but you will need a separate application to actually do the real payroll tracking/deductions/taxes. Otherwise it handles everything from rentals, bay/station rentals, it has full accounting, chart of accounts, general ledger, integrates to your purchasing/receiving, has full inventory tracking with multiple locations. Basically you can run your business with a few minor outside resources, from this one package. Even managing employees/time tracking etc...

Pros: Accounting, Rentals, POS Touchscreen support, Integrated Credit Card, Employee Management, Membership Modules, Integrated Gift Cards, Inventory Control, Invoice Management

Cons: The systems don't all share one checkout - each type of transaction (rental, station, contract payment, merchandise sale) must be rung up separately - The payroll is not very robust

Recommendations to other buyers: If you need a lightweight product, to manage your store, track your inventory, handle your financials, this is a great application.

After ten years, I work with the system reluctantly.

Pros: You can open the system multiple times on the same computer. In the middle of entering a sale, cust wants to try on a helmet or gloves, or just gets distracted; you can switch to another copy of the system until the customer is ready to continue. When using the computer to work on customer information or inventory, you can switch to another copy to verify or copy something. For instance, combining two customers into one, can copy email and then compare or enter.

Cons: The system is absolutely opaque, not intuitive, and byzantine. To deal with a product, it is impossible to find S/A Maintenance unless you know how to find it. Way too many arbitrary clicks and decisions to find anything in the system. Especially annoying is the inability to go back one level, if you make a mistake in these decisions; you have to go back to the beginning, and you might not even remember which decision was the wrong one. The lack of a training program to teach new employees how to use the system is something I have been thinking about for ten years. The rental module does not lend itself to quick service, renting 100 bikes on a busy day. If you suspend a sale, you can't open it and suspend it again; therefore you can neither edit, nor even reprint it. You can't analyze sales data from a sector of the customer data base. For instance, you can't separate the customers from A to M and compare them to the customers from N to Z. This would be useful to analyze the effectiveness of advertising. We could contact all the customers from A to M, but not N to Z, and then compare the results. There's more, but that will do for now.

Recommendations to other buyers: My recommendations are 1. not to count on this system for rentals. 2. Do not expect new employees to like the system in any respect, if they have ever worked in any other retail store with any other POS system. All employees are equally reluctant to learn and use this system.

Pros: The product I use has made tracking over 12,000 consigned items a manageable endeavor. In addition to the impeccable tech support I receive, the ability to track each and every product in the store, from intake to settlement, has made this business venture a pleasure. I probably only use 50% of the features, but those I use make my job easy. I can readily identify all pertinent information regarding an item, track notes on the consignor's item and sale preferences, and easily upload all information at the click of a button to my website. A few of the key features I use most are the abilities to associate similar items to one another, to produce reports for each consignor on items sold and still open, to create accounting reports on daily activity, to retrieve a customer's information for mail merge at settlement time, to track my inventory on both quantity and revenue generated to determine my seasonality and busiest days, and to un-publish items from the website once they reach quantity zero (can you imagine doing this manually?). I also enjoy the easy of use in the Aesys admin system. I've been able to manage and tailor the website to suit my needs with little help from the web support team (another great facet of the product). The ability for real-time lookup of shipping costs and credit card processing made the integration of these items a breeze.

Cons: There are times the system will crash if I have the SA Inventory, customer info, receive batch consignment, and the sales invoice windows open at the same time. There are times I need to have these available in the dynamic environment I've created, and the "Swordfish" errors can be a hassle. Also, there are some canned reports in the catalog that don't seem to work, and creating reports with the wizard is not the easiest or the most intuitive.

Recommendations to other buyers: Buy it, plain and simple! For the features I use right out of the package, you can't go wrong, and the Tech Support you'll receive will make this turnkey product a must-have for your business!

Pros: customer contact capture and credit card processing .

Cons: modules priced individually and that updates aren't discounted for current customers.

Overall: It was hard to learn at first and I find my new employees have a bit more trouble with it than I like. Support is good but I have frustrations when CC processor and yourself throw the blame back on each other when resolving such problems. I think the separate module are a bit pricey unless you can catch a sale. And unfortunately I wish there was better online instruction to able to learn a new module. customer support is limits how much they show you in that area. I feel as though I utilize only about 50% of what aimsi can do just because there is no instruction of resource available online. And what's the point of the scheduling tab in reports when it doesn't give data even though the choices of reports are the same in the lesson tab and they work there. Customer service told me the tab doesn't work yet.

Recommendations to other buyers: free video resources to learn the system after the initial training. Within the 1st month you don't know what to ask since you are still learning it. or extend the training time.

Comments: Expensive!!!!! Time to "update" to the newest version? Expensive!!!!

Pros: Solid database. Features specifically designed for our industry like lesson billing, rent to own tracking

Cons: Crashes daily because it isn't fully compatible with newer versions of windows. Not easy to use at multiple locations. Requires arcane network setup like environment variables because you have to pay for a total number of "terminals." Very clumsy user interface because you have to start from the master look up process for every piece of data you need to enter. Autopays are only semi automatic because they only run when you tell them to and once again you have to start from the master look up screen multiple times to: generate an auto pay list with manually input dates, transmit the autopays, post the autopays, cancel the denied auto pays, print out a denied list. Lesson billing is usable yet clumsy, lesson scheduling is a joke.

Pros: This is a great POS for our instrument sale and rental business. There's just enough flexibility in it without having to do everything freeform. The more we use it, the more we learn about new ways that it can help us. And the support option is great. Their staff is very knowledgeable and has been of tremendous help to us on several occasions. We've used AIMsi for years already, yet we're still finding new ways that it can help our business. The designers seem to have anticipated most of the needs of a shop like ours. Whenever we decide we want to do something new, we find there is an option in AIMsi for exactly that. That's a great sign of a well-designed product.

Cons: There are a couple of features that would be nice to have (ability to refund an initial rental payment in the system, reverse an approval return, etc.), but they're just things that would be helpful to us specifically. The only other thing that we really find irritating at all is that the formatting on the straight-to-email option isn't really compatible with Gmail recipients, so the large number of our customers with Gmail get invoices and the like that are very difficult to read and not very professional-looking. We get around that by printing them to PDF instead, but it would be nice to have it work in one step.

Recommendations to other buyers: Take the time up front to make a good plan for how you want to handle inventory. Setting up the categories and subcategories well the first time is much easier than trying to redesign the back end midstream (as we're trying to do). That's true of any system, so I would highly recommend putting some time into the planning process before you jump in. Also, definitely have someone show you how to make a training copy of your system for you. That has been invaluable to us in the last couple years, as we've added new employees and experimented with new ways of using the system.

Pros: The consignment module works well for tracking and paying consignors (if the consignment items are received correctly).

Cons: The software is extremely complicated to use for users. It takes a lot of time to learn and skill to use/understand this software. There are too many modules and features that are no use to us.

Overall: We use the consignment, customer & inventory modules in AIMsi. Unfortunately we had to purchase the whole software package, instead of just the modules we needed (for example, we don't sell lessons but have that module anyways). This is a very complex software program. We have noticed that there are multiple steps involved for just about everything you want to do, and if it's not done in the right sequence then things can get messed up quickly - try deleting an item from inventory, you have to delete and save on one screen, then save on another screen, then delete again. This software is difficult to use for front end sales staff. The ReportWizard feature is of no help to us as it is extremely confusing to figure out how to build a report. Customer support sent us an excel spreadsheet that's supposed to help, but it's about 400 pages of formulas that we don't know anything about. We are generally dissatisfied with this software.

Recommendations to other buyers: As mentioned in my review, we are generally dissatisfied with this software and find it difficult to use. Get a trial version and really use it.

Pros: Lots to offer for the firearms retailer at eh best possible price compared to there competitors. We have been very happy with the system as a whole and although there is a lot to learn, support is just a call away. Having Bound Book linked right to your inventory is very helpful and there is even a delayed delivery choice in the POS for state like us in IL that require a waiting period for firearms purchases.

Cons: There is a lot to learn and many items/field we don't use, but can not simply delete. We have to work around them. For being such a gun based POS system, there are things that could use improving to keep retailers compliant. But every time we make a suggestion to support, it is taken in kind and it the modification can be made, they do it!

Overall: All in one POS for firearms retailer with the best pricing that WIL NOT break your bank!!

Pros: That it captures customer info; examines things like staff sales, top customers, sales totals so I know how my business is growing.

Cons: the fees that you charge for anything extra that could support us.The fact that any type of webinar, workshop or video costs so much even though we pay monthly fees for support. I don't like the fact that even if we pay a monthly support fee we're screwed on the weekend if the system errors and you can't use it. paying an extra fee for the weekend seems like a another gouge. Not enough free tips and support about general usage, considering you only get a month of "free" support to learn how to use the system. If there are other places to get info then you need to get that info out to your customers. The email module having no support in the way of setting it up - you're on your own having to know outgoing info and whatever else. I had it working once and now it doesn't and when I ask support that admittedly say that's not there area to help with and you have to call your internet provider. Plus when it does work, depending on your provider you can end up getting blocked from using your email for 24 hours. That I can't look up a serial number to see it's repair history. That you didn't ask your customers how they felt about your product and get their input -thanks for listening to my request in the email I sent a few weeks ago.

Recommendations to other buyers: To thoroughly understand that the license is for only one computer and that you can only use one computer. That the learning curve takes time and give yourself a good 2-3 months to have it fully operating the way you want it and to use your current system in conjunction with it until your fully comfortable operating aimsi.

Pros: It is comprehensive. It may be clumsy, it may be a bit crude but it is comprehensive.

Cons: No documentation, no useable help feature. Extremely poor reporting module. Have found a number of systematic errors in basic processing functions as well as reporting, some have been corrected some not. Historically Tech Support has been questionable - at least from the accounting standpoint.

Recommendations to other buyers: I am an accountant who has set up and used a number of similar POS systems. This is an old system based on a FoxPro database (v10.0). The good news is that it generally does what it is designed to do. The bad news is that it is not up to (my) standards as far as functionality or versatility. Basic system set-up is different from any other system I have used but not so dis-similar that it couldn't be figured out. They need somebody in Tech Support (as well as system design) who has some understanding of accounting not just database maintenance. Two interesting observations which may give some insight are 1) The design of various screens and reports which fail to provide certain basic information and 2) The use non-standard terminology. Both of these items indicate to me that the software was designed and is maintained by non-accountants.

Pros: It has the capacity to handle all day to day activities. When used as it is

Cons: When corrections are needed, some are not easily done without assistance.

Comments: With many small businesses operating more than one type of business in their store, the demand for more versatile point of sale programs increases and becomes difficult to find. Think about looking at software to purchase and realizing each software application only does a portion of what you need. Say you sell retail products, but you also want to help local artists and sell their merchandise on consignment, plus you take trade-ins, offer repair services, and you wish to maintain a customer database to let them know about future sales; How many points of sale programs are out there capable of handling all that and much more? AIMsi. I'm still looking for the iPad program or another PC-based program capable of handling it all and be completely integrated. What kind of businesses are we talking about? Retail stores, liquor stores, hobby stores, gun stores and shooting ranges, appliance stores, car washes, music stores, bike shops, golf courses, bars and restaurants, grocery and convenience stores, and the list keeps growing.

Pros: User Friendly Continually being developed and upgraded A true all in the box solution (point of sale, built in accounting program, built-in gift card program, contact management, B2B and C2B capable, and everything else a business needs to run the front, middle, and back office).

Pros: We've been using Aimsi software in our music store for about 10 years now, and we couldn't live without it. It has streamlined our accounts receivable immensley, and made many other facets of our business much easier.

Cons: The hsitory search part of the service module has some limitations

Overall: We've been using Aimsi software in our music store for about 10 years now, and we couldn't live without it. It has streamlined our accounts receivable immensley, and made many other facets of our business much easier.

Pros: Really helps with the back room duties (accounting, inventory, planning, etc.). Great point of sale program. Bar coding is a must.

Cons: Getting quality support can be a challenge. Program has so many features that better documentation for using the features would help

Overall: Have been using this program for about 25 years. It is a great program to run a music store. Plenty of other music store owners to share ideas of how to get the best out of AimSi

Recommendations to other buyers: Great program to run your store. You might consider paying extra for the premium support in the beginning.

Comments: We use an older version (v6.0), and I am very impressed with the features. I can only imagine how the newer versions must be. Unfortunately, previous employees didn't understand POS software and we are not using many of the features, as our database is really messed up from being misused over the years. We only use the Long Term Rental Contract features, and AIMsi does a great job. Very easy to use. I only wish it had been used properly from the beginning because it looks like it would save me a lot of work.

Pros: The interface is very easy to understand and use, and customer support is great. It is a feature-rich program, I only wish we had a newer version.

Cons: When printing statements, it prints old accounts with no address. Apparently there is no way to filter the ones with no address out so I have to manually remove them. Occasionally one slips past and they are returned to us by the Post Office.

Pros: support team has vast knowledge of software

Cons: the cost to use this service, would prefer a smaller fee to use this support on a one time as needed order, software is not user friendly

Overall: great customer support, however if I had concerns it would be cost effectiveness, for small business operation, I do not need support that often, but had to pay monies every month to be connected, one time fees should be available at reasonable price points

Recommendations to other buyers: software could be more user friendly or tailored to individuals needs easily

Pros: Once you learn it, there's nothing it can't do compared to other software like this. Their premium support team is absolutely phenomenal. We're a small business so our bookkeeping department is small and our expertise is in running our specialty fitness business, not running a bookkeeping company so we often need help navigating through errors and understanding how data entry in a module ripples through the system. These guys don't talk down to us and resolve our issues every time.

Cons: Reporting for multiple locations could be better. For example I can't see sales by store location on the same report. And, there are some processes dealing with transactions b/w locations that could be more automated instead of requiring so much data entry and manual clearing. Hard to plug and play just any bookkeeper into this software as well because it's not as prevalent. As long as your bookkeeper understands the basic tenants of accounting like entries must balance and they know what a ledger account is then they'll pick it up with a little bit of training.

Recommendations to other buyers: Think about the sales reports, inventory reports, and financial reports that are most important for you and see which package generates these reports with the least amount of keystrokes. And make sure you have a way to get access easily to their support team for those times when you need help.

Pros: that's its an electronic POS software that is windows based and uses my existing computers.

Cons: not able to accommodate the needs of my industry (firearms) and is constantly having issues that can only be resolved if the customer service rep sees it happening. customer service can not make alterations to the program or system, they always have to get sent to the programmers. Programmers wont make changes and expect us to change to accommodate their system. Not the way it was sold to us, nor the way the law makes us operate.

Pros: Once you get the hang of AIMsi, everything is trackable. There is never any question about inventory, if or when a payment went through, or who still owes money. The auto-pay feature is also very beneficial.

Cons: AIMsi is way too difficult to use. It takes longer than necessary to understand and get used to. It crashes if you leave it alone for too long, and automatic payments aren't actually automatic - you have to go through a whole process to run stored cards, and you have to REMEMBER to do it.

Overall: Auto-pay feature

Comments: The sales staff is very eager to show how the program works, but they do not tell you about data entry required, that there is only one check template, and that other parts of their program cannot be customized. The rental and lesson modules cannot be turned off, and having to enter tax by zip code is a tedious job that is unnecessary. Other accounting programs will do this automatically. Overall, the program has great features, but if we had not spent money on it, I think I would have knuckled down and gone with QuickBooks, and I hate QuickBooks.

Pros: Integrates POS, AP, AR, inventory, and invoicing, all in one program. They offer complete training and on-site set up, for a price.

Cons: Too much data entry to set up, which they do not tell you. I had to enter: categories (in a specific format, which I had to develop) and tax by zip code (California has over 2700). In addition, their 'conversion' consists of you putting your information in their template, and them writing a subroutine that will insert it into their program. If we had needed multiple stores, or did rentals, then it would have been more complicated. They only have one check template, and if your check does not fit theirs, their immediate response is 'why not buy them from us'. Nevermind that you might have several boxes already printed. Also, entering a customer is a complicated, several step process. For someone unused to data entry or not very computer savvy, it could be a more frustrating experience than it was for me. Their documentation is SEVERELY lacking, as well.

Comments: I have been working with Aimsi since 2005 and my #1 wish would have Canadian Payroll as part of the program. The Lesson module is geared only to music lessons, not for use with sewing and quilting stores. Even though the program is marketed to sewing and vacuum stores the Lesson Module doesn't work well. The purchase order module could be made better committed and in committed orders are confusing, and it's more time consuming to use the program than to hand write a PO. The number of accounts that are available for banking needs to increase as there are many more payment options these days. We take e-transfers, direct deposits, gift cards, as well as cash, cheque, debit, and 3 major credit cards plus gift cards from these various places. Since we deal with a number of outside agents that get stock from us we have had to be very creative with using the transfer in and out a program to keep track of the inventory that is sent to these agents.

Pros: The price point is very affordable and tech help has always been good Bryan is great at what he does.

Cons: Needs to have a more modern look and feel, and could be made more efficient, maybe being able to have windows open, when you generate a report you can not minimize the report and generate a second one without launching another Aimsi window this uses unnecessary server resources. Social media links and the ability to link to a website/e-commerce that you have built would also be nice.

Recommendations to other buyers: The product is good but as with anything in the world of computers and electronics changes the programs needs to change with it. Be sure that all the modules work for your business.

Pros: The software seems reasonably stable and we are able to preform most of our basic tasks without any undue effort.

Pros: The software has many facets which you can tailor to your company's needs. We have been using AIMsi for 11 years now and have watched the software grow into a powerful program that takes care of our inventory, accounting, A/R, A/P, and bank reconciliation. Support at Tri-Tech has been phenomenal. We've had a few hiccups in the past with bugs or mistakes that an employee has made (which we couldn't fix ourselves). Tri-Tech support has been there to always walk us through the issue, and 98% of the time, we've been able to resolve our issues.

Cons: There isn't much that we don't like about AIMsi, but we do wish that the check ledger was accessible in a manner like QuickBooks. The same goes for the bank reconciliation module. It doesn't make sense that in order to clear checks, the statement clearing date must always be the last day of the month in order for all the cleared and uncleared checks to show up together.

Recommendations to other buyers: Play around with it! That's the best way to learn what the software can and can't do before you roll it out live. Also, if you are not sure about a function and don't want to call Tri-Tech about it first, install a secondary copy of AIMsi on a separate computer that you can play around with. The little boxes that pop up when you mouse over boxes or items are helpful too.

Pros: The actual product is pretty good. There are things about it that are far more intuitive than what we were using previously, which is why we chose this system.

Cons: Once we completed the purchase, the dumped a bunch of documentation on us and did a quick training on basic functionality. Then we never heard from them again. We had to figure out on our own how to install, transfer data, etc. When we asked for more service, we got a lot of blowback and were told "You had training; you should be asking us when you need help." The problem is that we don't know what we're doing, so how do we know that we need help until we actually run into an issue? When we did ask for help (I repeatedly asked for a checklist of items that need to be completed prior to launch), I never heard back on any of my requests. I think there should be both an account executive and a tech support person assigned to the account that take you from purchase to launch. That way, you aren't dealing with multiple support people who aren't familiar with your case.

Recommendations to other buyers: If I could go back, I would have purchased from another vendor and spent the cost upfront on a superior product rather than losing productivity.

Comments: There are much better options. I wish I did my research and read these reviews. I asked for a 30-day trial of the software and they said no but were confident it would be exactly what we needed. Well it wasn't and really bad for software we never plan on using. We decided that if it was so hard to set-up correctly before we even started using it, that it would be a headache done the road. We did set-up and went for our training and passwords wouldn't work. Not even the default. They can't help us. Have to call support and reschedule training. Call support and they tell me I have premium support to use this different access number. They can't transfer me, so I have to call back. I use that different access number and just keep getting shot back to the main menu "Press 1 for Sales, Press 2 for support" At this point, myself and my team are so aggrivated that we decide it's better to go with the current systems we already have Fullslate and Paysimple. They are easy to use. Super intuitive and requires about 30-min of training for someone to learn. Fortunately, AIMsi did extend a refund for the unused license and workstation, so we were able to get back some of our money. The sales guy I worked with was super nice. None of this is his fault, it's the software's fault and my fault for not trusting my gut that you don't buy something unless it has a trial period to make sure it's the right fit for your business.

Pros: Can be set up for multiple locations Lots of back-end customizing Lots of add-ons and modules for customization

Cons: Expensive & hard to set-up Windows based, so no Mac used Can set up a server to access remotely but requires you to have multiple workstations as the software is only tides to 1 location Supposedly there is support but I couldn't get through Sales team is very active and reaches out to you a lot until you request for money back

Pros: It is the only software specifically designed for the needs of a music store. It is convenient that you can call and get assistance with a question on how to use the software.

Cons: Their tech support. They are polite but clueless! The service we were getting years ago with the standard support was much better than what we get now for the same money. We feel that the people we talk with do not know the software very well and are making wild guesses on how to solve the problem we are inquiring about. Many times we are given conflicting advice from different tech guys on the same issue. Numerous times we have been on hold for up to an hour waiting for their tech guy to figure out how to solve a problem or just answer a question we have about using a certain feature from their software. It is very frustrating and it is waste of our time. Also, you have to pay for every single new module or improvement they make. Unfortunately once you buy their software and start paying every year to add a new module, you do not have a choice to cancel since you have invested quite a lot of money.

Recommendations to other buyers: It will help A LOT if they train their tech support staff better so that they actually are able to help with the problem customers call with. We feel that we are paying for tech support provided by people that have just been hired and are learning on the job.

Comments: We have just purchased this product within the last month and are still in the implementation phase. So far so good. It seems to be fairly easy to use once we went through some of the training videos. We have used up one of our two hours of free support getting guidance about things particular to our business and that has been very helpful. We are a small shop and spent a good amount of time shopping around for the best fit for the best price. This does what some of the way out of our league expensive programs do as far as multi-channel e-commerce, working with an online gunbook, accounting for trade-ins, consignments, assemblies, etc. I also like that it can integrate with Quickbooks and we can stay with our current merchant services provider. The cons are that depending on what modules you need, it can start to feel like you are getting nickel and dimed a bit but overall the price is still very reasonable. We were able to get what we needed within out budget. I can't give any in depth reviews beyond this yet since we are still in the learning phase but so far I think this was a great purchase.

Pros: Sales, inventory, accounting, rentals, and lessons are all in the same program. Popups for customer notes and inventory add-ons are extremely helpful. Messaging other users has improved our communication with each other.

Cons: The lesson module needs improvements. There are too many steps to entering an absence and then a makeup lesson. The absence screen needs to be merged with the schedule screen. It could be easily done by adding columns to the schedule screen for an absence checkbox and the reason box. The program has a lot of errors that causes it to shut down. Using the the inventory update Min/Max is confusing, especially with seasonal inventory. Training on this would be helpful. The help instructions seem to need to be updated and aren't always helpful.

Recommendations to other buyers: This is a very comprehensive program with a lot of things to learn. Learn and implement one module at a time to become comfortable with each module and not get overwhelmed with so much to learn. Use the help Tri-Tech offers to get the program set up properly. I know a music store that tried to set everything up themselves without help; it has taken them years to implement, and they are having lots of issues with accuracy of info and things working the way they should.

Pros: Comprehensive system with great support. We currently use the rental contract module and sales invoices the most, but plan to expand to several other modules in the near future. It's very helpful to be able to slowly implement different modules at our own pace to fit our store's needs.

Cons: Lesson module is not flexible to handle teachers who collect their own payments and pay store rent, only set up to handle payments handled by the store.

Pros: I like the organization of the sale and manage inventory. Knowing that I can look at other stores' inventory and get transfers also makes the process easier than having to order new stock for each individual store. I originally came from a small music store where everything was done on paper such as contracts, payments, and all sales. It made organization a lot tougher and more room for mathematical error. With the computerized equations and adding and subtracting, totals are much easier to find, and less human paperwork and calculating are required.

Cons: I have noticed that some payment processing and saving transactions seem to hang up at the end and take a few seconds to process and complete. Also, at times, the software seems to overwork itself or the computer, cause AIMsi to be unresponsive, and freeze up the computer.

Recommendations to other buyers: Taking time to learn and discover the different abilities of the software makes it extremely quick and easy to use the basic functions available.

Comments: Definitely an all in one POS system, with so many features that no business can't say it didn't meet their needs, just take the time out with their customer service to learn it all in due measure and don't try to take it in all at once. Know what features your business needs and doesn't need to save your workload.

Pros: It literally had everything, but also more than what I knew what to do with. It has every function imaginable to accommodate every business, even if yours wouldn't necessarily need it.

Cons: With all the functions, I felt overwhelmed to learn them all one by one, and although I didn't need them or understand them, I'm sure another business out there needed it and appreciated it. Although customer service did try to help, I believe it was just a system I wasn't used to.

Pros: There are a vast amount of reports that can be generated with the software, which is important to businesses like mine. Many other P.O.S's have some standardized reports available, but AIMsi allows you to tailor the reports to your needs. AIMsi also allows you to create a touchscreen POS interface, which is convenient for quick sales and short ticket transactions.

Cons: Although it's not a problem particularly for myself, my co-workers felt it is not so simple to navigate and use. There is a training version available to circumvent that. Granted, with everything that the AIMsi allows you to do, it is understandable that interface would have to a little bit crowded. I would've liked a streamlined version without all the technical back-end options so that it would be easier to train new staff.

Recommendations to other buyers: This software is great for managing inventory and purchase orders. However, if you're looking for just a simple POS for small and simple transactions, I would not recommend it.

Comments: Do even simple tasks with this was really difficult. The user interface was confusing and it was hard to find what I needed in all the menus. It tended to throw away information if you didn't know how to save things. Lots of keystrokes to do anything. Counter-intuitive methods if you are used to other systems. Good customer support, and I like that it is powerful, but that is no good if have to call customer support every time you need to do something. I quit using this product with some regrets and went to Lightspeed, which I hate but at least I can get it to work. Using AIMsi was an unpleasant and frustrating experience. And they need a new name for it, something with more meaning than aim-ess-eye. Also, send people who understand your product to Interbike, not the baffled kid I talked to.

Recommendations to other buyers: Wait until these people get their act together with the user interface.

Pros: One of the few full service Point of Sales systems for Music Retail. Has the ability to tie into a companies e-commerce. Active-e, Bto B, and C to B are very useful

Cons: As with all POS systems/software. Bugs and version updates can create issues. Sometimes Tech support doesn't have a good solution to the problem.

Recommendations to other buyers: When it comes to Music Retail, unless you are going to hire someone to program a POS system from scratch, it is the best option.

Pros: It's rock solid and stable. It doesn't give us problems on a day-to-day basis. I do the back end part where we put instruments and accessories into the system for our rental and leasing module, and it works predictably and well. The vendor is awesome. We have received nothing but top-notch service and support from Tri-Tech.

Cons: The only problem I know of is inconsistent and erratic success when emailing invoices and approval sheets directly from AIMsi. What we do when it has to be right the first time is print the document, scan and email it as a PDF attachment to the customer. I also find the service module more complicated than it needs to be. It can be learned, but it takes a while. We have no complaints about the vendor; Tri-Tech is terrific!

Recommendations to other buyers: It is a feature-rich program with lots of capabilities and options. Be sure to take the time to look at these options. AIMsi can just about do it all for the music business.

Comments: I "inherited" AIMSI from the previous shop owner. The training period had expired, which added to the complications of trying to understand and navigate the software. I went with a different program which seems to fit our store needs. I hope you have continued success with AIMSI.

Pros: A detailed software program that would be great for a retail oriented business. Great for the creative programmer.

Cons: Too many menus and not user friendly for quick access. Very complicated to navigate or change input. Not conducive to inventory of various different items, such as a consignment store. Some fields were not able to be changed for customizing garment tags. The software requires one to build from the ground up.

AIMsi by Tri-Technical Systems: Not super easy, but very useful.

Pros: It's very powerful software. It handles just about any situation you could encounter in retail sales (from discounting to packaging to short-term rentals to leasing to gift cards) with a huge array of reports so I can get the useful information I need to make sound business decisions.

Cons: It's not the easiest software to learn. It's neither intuitive nor entirely menu-driven, and the way some tasks are accomplished just doesn't make a lot of sense (unnecessarily complex or circuitous). And the company can be stubborn and inflexible.

Recommendations to other buyers: Go to a store running this software, and try it out for yourself. Make the decision carefully; it takes a long time to learn to use this (or any POS) software properly and to build a base of useful data (year-to-year sales, etc). Ignore the initial costs; your costs/savings (in employee hours) for training, use, problem solving, etc. will quickly dwarf whatever you pay the software provider to purchase or support the product.

Pros: The software covers all aspects of the retail music business

Cons: The AMSi software integrates nicely with the Storefront internet module but Storefront is an extremely difficult platform to work with. People that program web sites for a living have no clue on how to use the program. Its not intuitive and the have to learn Storefront from scratch.

Pros: I really like how you can easily generate reports, that's important for my business and I believe this software can do the best job of it.

Comments: I've never used a system like this before so I'm lost. The program has a ton of features but I understand about 1/10th of them. Very frustrating and the tech support is costly, yet you almost need it as they charge outrageous fees for calling tech support without it.

Pros: Customer service is good. They can patch in to help with issues. Lot's of functions and features.

Cons: Training modules are painful to watch. Not quality at all. Have to pay for support. Learning system is a long process.

Comments: Overall, I think the product is good. The best pro I give the product is that it has great capabilities with tracking inventory. AIMsi rates well in that category. My main criticism of the product is that AIMsi is not intuitive to the users. It has always had an old clumsy feel, though through the years this has gotten better. And it still is not an easy software to interact with. When we train an employee it AIMsi is always a hard part of the training because even millennials don¿t find AIMsi user-friendly. I was just at NAMM and had people ask me our success with the software¿because of its reputation of being nonuser friendly. I think it¿s a good software but with such a smart company behind it, I believe it could be better. We have used it since the mid 90¿s.

Comments: The aimsi platform has delivered quite well for us. We have way more insight into our business than we ever did before. Gone are the days of endless hours, crunching numbers, and writing endless things out by hand, or creating excel worksheets, etc. Yes, that stuff still needs to be done to an extent, as with any business. But nearly all of our bookkeeping information is a couple of clicks away. From historical daily numbers to active inventory, to scheduling and maintaining services, to employee timekeeping, and more- it's all on Aimsi!

Pros: Ease of use.

Cons: Some things we didn't know it could do, we are figuring out years later. Mostly user error, but could be better.

Recommendations to other buyers: Hands down, the best product we found at a very competitive price.

It works for 80% of what we do.

Pros: Very intuitive and easy to set up. Their tech staff is very friendly and super helpful getting you all set up and going.

Cons: With some of our products, the cost is less than a penny, so inputting and tracking that was interesting to figure out.

Recommendations to other buyers: Make sure that everything works the way you want it to. Things to think about are how long are the model numbers from your vendors, how long do you want your store's SKUs to be, what is the process of combining items you purchase into kits and selling them as one item or selling a bulk purchased item as an individual. These are the things that we found limits most of the POS systems out there. These are things that you will mainly run into when operating a retail store, but not as likely for restaurants or bars.

Comments: We first began using AIMsi in 2001. The staff was helpful in setting us up, and the software was great to work with. We use most every module available, and have been able to grow our busines, and our profits steadily each year. Because we sell bicycles, fitness equipment and shoes, our operation has to run as two seperate stores, yet combine the P&L and such reports for actual trackings. AIMsi does this very well, and with minimal efforts on our part. My previous POS was DOS based, and thus needed to be updated to a Windows environment. AIMsi was the best package I could find, and it still apperas to me to be the best, most complete package available today. Ease of use is important, since we employee several students as part timers, and they move on when school is over. AIMsi is easy to use, to learn and to work with. Our most impressive things are the accounting, inventory management, time clock feature, and the contact management module. We are very happy with the system, the support and the entire staff from Tri-tech!

Pros: The product works correctly with few errors. Technical support is easy to reach and can often provide answers or solutions to issues as they arise. The company provides regular updates and upgrades to the software to correct errors or add functionality.

Cons: Certain portions of the program are incomplete or not well thought out. Some tasks are much harder or more complicated than they should be. The lack of support for current software is disappointing. Excel is limited to the 2003 format, and the program is built on Visual Fox Pro 9, a program discontinued in 2007.

Recommendations to other buyers: Ask a lot of questions. Speak with current users about their experience with launching on this platform. Set up a test system, and be very thorough in your conversion test before going live. Had we known what we know now during our first year, it would have been much smoother.

Comments: For the past three years, we've used the AIMSI software for our point of sale. We have found the software to be straightforward to learn, use for our inventory and non-inventory items. The program offers a large variety of reports for in depth analysis. Staff can be trained on the basics relatively quickly. We have found that AIMSI serves our small business needs at this time.

Pros: We like that sales can be processed with a home screen of service buttons.

Cons: The help section could improve with key word search options.

Recommendations to other buyers: For a small business with product inventory and services, AIMSI is a reliable and affordable POS software.

Comments: This is my first package. I checked many out and this seemed to be a great value. It has a TON of functionality of which I use only a small part. But the customer service is outstanding and the flexibility is huge. You'll have to narrow down what parts you want. It is a full accounting program also if you're doing accrual accounting. Most of the preset are for music stores, hobby shops, etc. I had to set it up specifically for shoe repair but it went well.

Pros: Very functional.

Cons: Maybe too much for a novice. Trying to figure out what to use and what not to use.

Recommendations to other buyers: Good product for the money and great service.

Pros: The software itself feels rock solid. Most problems I experience are a result of our ISP and our IT guy being off premises.

Cons: On rare occasions, our printer has connection issues, but a restart usually fixes it. I'm not sure if it's a problem with AIMsi or if it's external. I would like a change in how emailing a receipt works. You have to print a paper copy to email. The biggest drawback is the cost for each module. I know it's business software and anything that works well is not inexpensive. As long as it works as well as it does, it's an accepted trade-off.

Recommendations to other buyers: This is the only POS software our company has ever used. We've upgraded over the years (about 14), so it's the only software I know. I still think we made a solid choice.

Pros: One of the best POS programs I have ever used. The inventory modules are the best for inventory control. AIMsi makes my bookkeeping a breeze, and the tech support is the greatest. There's no long wait time, and the staff is very professional and helpful. I love this and advise anybody in all retail fields to purchase this program and tech support.

Cons: Great product. I don't have one bad thing to say about AIMsi's programs.

Recommendations to other buyers: It's easy to use, and in the retail business, this is a plus. With e-sales, people don't like to wait in lines at the check-out. This program allows AIMsi purchasers to get through the customers at a speedy pace.If any problems arise. Tech support is just a phone call away. In this industry, this is important.

Pros: The software is very powerful with lots of options for reports. Tri-Tech has worked hard to solve all our issues. The tech support has been very friendly when working on issues. If a tech does not have an answer, they will follow up with a colleague to get an answer.

Cons: There are a few issues that are still being worked out. If somebody pays extra on their rental to pay it off sooner, there is not a good way to put that extra money in as deposit. If there is a problem after hours or on weekends, there is nobody there to answer those questions or fix those problems.

Recommendations to other buyers: Get the trial version and look around it, or contact a store that is using the software to see if you can look at some of the features.

Pros: AIMsi is very affordable and straightforward, with no bells and whistles. I like that very much. The interface is very user-friendly once you get the hang of it, and the tech support is quick to talk you through your questions. Receipts and reports are professional-looking and useful for bookkeeping.

Cons: The tech support is not available on Saturdays or evenings, which can be a bummer when something goes terribly wrong during their off hours.

Recommendations to other buyers: Communicate with the company; they will help you every step of the way. Each person I spoke to on the phone or via email was honest and very helpful. Pros: It's a pretty straightforward POS interface. It's easy to learn. Tech support is available if you have an issue.

Cons: It has the tendency to lock up and crash for random (but sometimes predictable) reasons. This has improved with the release of later versions, but it still is an issue. If you're not a strong computer-person, you can spend considerable amounts of time trying to get AIMsi to do a particular thing. The user manual isn't comprehensive. Different windows contain fields which have no explanation for their use.

Recommendations to other buyers: If you aren't currently using a computer system for POS/inventory control, AIMsi will help you but will frustrate you at the same time. Do your homework, and evaluate as many systems as you can.

Pros: I purchased the program so I could track serial numbers of musical instruments in the repair module. Also, I wanted a program that was capable of renting instruments. The more I work with the program, the more I find things unexpectedly - and the more I like it. The vendor has been exceptional with their help in getting me started.

Cons: I find the account reconciliation section a little confusing. Not so much in balancing, but the information displayed. I can see where the program is designed for an individual with accounting experience, but for the lay person its difficult to understand. I can't say anything negative about the vendor. They've been very helpful.

Recommendations to other buyers: I would recommend they evaluate their specific needs This program is overkill for what I do, but I wanted certain functions and this program fit those particular needs.

Comments: This product was offered as a replacement when AIMsi bought our previous software supplier. Unfortunately, it does not function in a way that fits with a basic consignment shop work flow. Nor does it function in the way they sold it. They would not provide a demo of the product first. We had to pay to upgrade only to find out that it was not going to work for us. Not smart, but we are a church owned thrift store (all proceeds go to charity) and the upgrade was significantly cheaper than buying some of the newer products on the market so we took the risk.

Pros: We like the long-term rental process this software provides. The software accurately tracks the rental, bills the customers, and ends the rental payments when the term is completed.

Cons: There are portions of the Purchase Order process that are not flexible enough for our use. We need to have the cost amount with three decimals places for accurate cost reporting. We also find the purchase order receiving process to be clumsy to work with.

Recommendations to other buyers: When you want to purchase software for a retail business, we recommend allowing about 3-4 months to install the software. We also recommend getting the service contract for the first few months.

Pros: Even for those in my store who are electronically-challenged, this product is easy to understand and learn how to process. I have not had anyone in my store who felt it was too difficult to learn the procedure or shortcuts.

Cons: I would like if the time cards could be cut/pasted for new days or weeks so that I could easily adjust those who need corrections but work similar hours every day.

Comments: AIMSi has been an integral part of our business since we converted to their software in 1995. As a multi store school music dealer that relies heavily on rentals and repairs, the school service modules of the software have been extremely flexible and accomodating and have served our needs well. We've used the Point of Sale and Purchase Order modules since the transition as well, and they've both offered efficiencies in our sales and ordering. The dynamic Inventory Management Min Max system has allowed us to cut between 30-55% from our inventory levels in our different product categories, creating cash that we've redeployed for business growth. All in all, a great business tool that we've been delighted with since our transition.

Frustrating. This software, while functional, is not intuitive.

Pros: The technical support is very helpful, and you're going to need it.

Cons: I dislike how difficult it is to make changes, especially to SKUs and sales. Furthermore, having to open a new window whenever I want to accomplish a new task is very antiquated; similar modules should be grouped into a single window or tab instead of scrolling through multiple drop-down menus.

Recommendations to other buyers: Have a good memory. All updates and additions to this software appear to have been stacked on instead of considering the user interface and ease of use. Because of this, you will be forced to memorize every step to every action you want to take.

I makes all of my positions much easier, as Owner, Bookkeeper, buyer and Salesman.

Comments: Oh the pro's and cons are many...

First Pro's: It makes recording keeping a snap, from bookkeeping to inventory. I can print reports that cover all the needs I can think of from most perspectives. Looking at inventory, reordering inventory based on sales. Cost figures, rental income, Publications and those little things, like picks. I can set a teachers discount, or leave a note to show them something specific.......

Cons: Sometimes you have to hit to many buttons, sometimes you have to edit the sales tax because it's set-up for gross sale, not net where you add sales tax....

Pros: AIMsi does everything we need it to do for our music store, and Tri-Technical Systems is always open to ideas and special needs that arise. The people are friendly and knowledgeable, and if they don't know the answer (which is rare), they find out in short order.

Cons: That items entered into a purchase order get alphabetized automatically.

Recommendations to other buyers: Go to one of the training sessions the company offers. They are very helpful and give you a chance to see the software in action. Then visit a store in your area using the software if you can. Talk to the people who use it day in and day out.

Comments: I've been using this software since it was in DOS! The improvements over the years have helped our business run more efficiently and given us the ability to provide better service for our customers.

Pros: That it is fully integrated and easy to use.

Cons: That I have to pay for it.

Recommendations to other buyers: Don't wait. Just pull the trigger and get it. It will make your life easier.

It is our POS, inventory, and online presence software.

Pros: The front-end POS part of the software is quick and user-friendly. The same can be said for inventory entry and maintenance. Tech support has always been very good and surprisingly fast.

Cons: Reports are limited and occasionally difficult to create as desired. The website integration, while easy-to-use, is very limited in its visual layout options.

Recommendations to other buyers: For smaller companies without a dedicated IT or system manager, someone will need to accept the responsibility of learning full aspect administration. That's no small task given the breadth of the software.

Pros: I really enjoy working with Tri-Tech's friendly and skilled technical and sales staff over the phone every time I call in for questions and concerns regarding the AIMsi software and its related hardware.

Cons: There's nothing that I would think of at this particular time.

Recommendations to other buyers: If anyone gets the chance to use it and its services, I would recommend them to use the online member portal and subscribe for Tri-Technical System emails for software updates and general information purposes to get a complete hands-on experience of the real services Tri-Tech offers to its customers.

Comments: I have been using AIM software for my business for many years. As it is designed specifically for my style of business it fits very well. I will continue to use AIMsi.

Pros: The fact that it fits my business so well.

Cons: Occasionally cumbersome, but no software is perfect.

Recommendations to other buyers: I would recommend AIM software.

Pros: I like how may items it can do and the versatility. This is a huge step up from what we had, which was pretty old school.

Cons: This software is not for a store with over 2000 SKUs. It takes forever to upload and costs extra to have them custom design a software program to accept Excel file data.

Recommendations to other buyers: I would certainly use this if you have less than 2k SKUs and are somewhat savvy with computers. This one is interesting in the fact that if you hit escape, you can loose the last three hrs of work you just did. Save often with this program.

Pros: Their POS is very customer-friendly. Their support team has always been available.

Cons: The ease of use between the POS and Active-e is not the best. It's cumbersome to use. The rental website and regular website should offer the customer end user the same experience. Accounting (clearing accts) could be better. Reporting could be better. Tables don't always communicate, so it's difficult to write useful reports.

Recommendations to other buyers: Contact other users before purchasing to get a better insight of what it can do for you.

Cons: Haven't really come across any cons yet, sometimes the program acts a bit slower than it should, but thats it

Pros: There are really no other products for retail music stores.

Cons: There are lots of little things that annoy me about the program (lots of little glitches and things). There seems to be a lot of little things that can crash the program. I also wish that you could load templates in to the program and not rely on Word to load them.

Recommendations to other buyers: Make sure you get a very thorough demonstration of all the aspects of the program. If you enter values wrong when doing rentals, you can mess up the results exponentially.

Pros: When I first started looking for software, the sales people for AIMsi were very attentive and answered all the questions I had. The product is user-friendly for those that do not have much software knowledge.

Cons: I have not come across anything that I didn't like yet. I am still exploring it, but I haven't found anything wrong.

Recommendations to other buyers: Make sure that you know exactly what you are looking for, and that the person that is your vendor now will help with the transition to the new product.

Pros: AIMsi allows The Music Center to quickly locate inventory between our six stores.

Cons: The only issue I have had is when we made the transition from AIMsi 9 to the current version. We had a couple of workdays when the POS closed down on us. Currently, a feature that would be very helpful is the email receipt. This is has not worked properly since this feature was opened up.

Recommendations to other buyers: We run rental contracts. I wish we had better control over the pages we printed out for our contracts.

Pros: The support staff is extremely helpful. I like the fact that using the viewfinder allows the computer to be accessed by support. This allowed me to take notes as a staff member explained what he/she was doing.

Cons: The setup was more time-consuming then we thought. We were misled to believe it was a plug and play program. We didn't allow enough setup time before going live.

Recommendations to other buyers: It is not a plug and play on day one. Lots of set up is required for each business' needs.

Comments: I use the POS software for my Gunshop. Is not hard. And from the manager perspective, it has good reports. The only recommendation I can give is more training for all reports. And teach how we can create our own reports. But it is a very good product.

Pros: From a POS perspective, AIMsi gives me consistent performance with little or no problems.

Cons: The reporting capabilities could be tweaked. It would be advantageous to set inventory levels and be prompted when it is time to reorder.

Recommendations to other buyers: I would recommend that anyone considering this software to be certain upon purchase and to have thorough training for associates as to the capabilities of the packages installed. Too often, exploration is required to find how certain aspects work.

Pros: It does everything that I need it to do. It can run a report for anything that you ask it for! Tech support can answer every question that you throw at them.

Cons: This product can do so much that it can be hard to find a basic function because the drop down menus are so large.

Recommendations to other buyers: Talk to other store owners that sell similar products to you. I found that almost everyone I spoke to in music retail was already using it. I asked a lot of questions to current users.

Pros: The product has worked wonders for our business. From the installation to upgrades, AIMsi has provided us with expert technical assistance, as well as personal help and advice from their staff.

Cons: AIMsi has performed at or above our expectations. From the get-go, we have felt confident that AIMsi would be there for us.

Recommendations to other buyers: Make sure that you rely on the expert technical advice offered by AIMsi. Technicians are as close as your computer keyboard.

Pros: It's feature-loaded: proper inventory management, lesson scheduling features, rental programs, and much more. This software is much more than just POS software.

Cons: We experience frequent software shutdowns, though not daily. It is a nuisance when thing will freeze up for no reason or a error will pop up, and you will be forced to restart your software.

Recommendations to other buyers: Take it slow. There are a lot of features, and that may seem overwhelming at first.

So far, so good.

Pros: It's a good all-in-one package. They have great customer service! Our sales rep bends over backwards to help!

Cons: Some steps are a little confusing and long to get to.

Recommendations to other buyers: Ask as many questions as you can and make sure that this is the right software for you. After buying the software, bug them with any questions you have. I don't like to bother people too much and think I beat myself up over the process too much. I think if I would have called more, it would have been a little easier.

Pros: I like the access I have for both customer and inventory history and how it merges them. I get a response of "We can do that" and they do.

Cons: When searching for a customer and I type the account number in and the program is asking me for last name. When I change it to search by account number, the number is gone when I make the change and I have to reenter the number.

Recommendations to other buyers: Give this a chance. It will help you with your business.

Pros: We are heavy users of AIMSI's consignment capabilities, something few competing systems offer.

Cons: There's inconsistency between screens (e.g., the save button is not always in same spot). The vendor is sometimes reluctant to fix product functionality issues. There's no support for Macs or tablets. It's unreliable on wireless networks. The interface design is dated.

Recommendations to other buyers: Try demos of everything you're considering, and test extensively!
