### "Great mental health software for a small practice"

I've been using this software for years, and the only reason I'm stopping soon is that I"m no longer going to be seeing clients in private practice

Pros

I appreciate that it is priced based on practice size. As I have a small practice on top of my full time job, it's nice to not be paying more money than I am bringing in. The fact that it's scalable is the most important factor for me.

Cons

Sometimes the app doesn't let me do what I need with invoicing or dealing with group appointments and I have to go to the website. When on my phone, I mostly don't use the app, just the cloud version.

### "Confusing, Cumbersome and a Let Down"

I am unsatisfied and annoyed but I do not want to switch due to the the tedious nature of that process. Also, because I am a new customer, I am hoping that the learning curve is simply a bit more than I anticipated and that I will grow more comfortable with time.

Pros

That is seems to have the capacity to "grow with" the business, per advertising. Customer service and support. The ability to suggest features and track progress as new features are added.

Cons

Telehealth video cut out several times in the middle of my sessions. The calendar is not very functional e.g. setting availability is complicated and not very flexible, color coding does not work on the monthly view option. The billing does not seem fluid and the error codes have no interpretation guide. There seemed to be a degree of customizability for the notes and assessments that was oversold; I was under the impression that I could create my own progress notes and I cannot.

TheraNest has been good while we are small and starting out. I can see needing more features as we grow.

Pros

TheraNest is intuitive. You can download payments and match invoices with ease. Easy for staff to enter their time and service.

Cons

TheraNest does not calculate the minutes or hours spent with a client. That would be a nice , time saving feature for tracking units and payroll.

Less complicated and less expensive for a startup company.

Very positive - I recently signed up for TheraNest with my second practice.

Pros

Smooth integration of appointments, charting, and billing. Love the reports (so does my CPA) and user friendly interface. They are constantly adding new features and making improvements.

Cons

Downloaded invoices/notes are prohibitively large files. This makes them difficult to send through email.

System is easy since this practice does not take insurance.

Cons

Like an alert or notification of late insurance balance/client balance. Messaging between admin and client without charge, an area to write a note to see next session from admin side, not therapist side...(use a different card or don't charge...message that gets attention). Billing insurance is cumbersome...and how to post. Ability to void a charge, not refund but void...

Customer support is very good, which is a lifesaver -- you'll need it!!

Pros

The more I use this system the less I like it. I chose it over other systems because I liked the interface, and I still like that. Unfortunately key functions are so bad I am considering switching (after putting in 30+ hours learning and setting up this system).

Cons

1) The billing system is so much more difficult than it should be to use on the therapist's end. I thought it would save me time from my former archaic practice of keeping track manually, but there are so many dumb elements (for example, the fact that it's necessary to write off the difference between your standard rate and the insurance reimbursement rate manually for every single invoice), that I'm not sure it saves time at all. 2) It's not easy for my clients either. There's an online scheduling system. I have two offices in different locations. When clients schedule online the system allows them to choose a location, which makes them think they will only see available appointments at that location. Not true! After a client showing up at the wrong location I realized I had to check in myself with all online appointments to make sure they know where to go. 3) The online system for payments is hard for clients to use. The statements are ridiculously difficult to read. When I generate a statement it is emailed to clients (not HIPAA compliant), rather than sending them to a secure link to read the statement. I know other therapy systems do this in a HIPAA compliant way, but not Theranest. 4) Many more complaints but I am over the text limit

### "Good product at a good cost"

The ease with tele therapy and inexpensive cost. Some clients seem to find it difficutlt to initially log on, however. I suspect they may not be entirely reading instructions, however.

Pros

Software is very user friendly and intuitive.

Cons

Some of the add-on features are more complex. Billing and credit card processing. The training when taken a while ago seemed to move too fast. Seems training is now mostly on-demand type components. Help can be delayed at times (I suppose this is due to COVID-19, but not absolutely sure.) Some of the modules with casework seem incomplete. Creating treatment plans for instance - - it is difficult to update the plans. Only option is to add addendums.

### "Theranest Chat Support Is The Best"

Pros

I am new to Theranest, though my company is not. I have been able to use the software with ease and learn the functions quickly. If i have a problem or question, Theranest's customer service representatives have always been helpful. I love the chat feature because I don't have to interrupt my whole day to get on the phone. They answer my question in a timely manner. I highly recommend this software.

Cons

Some functions can be improved. Maybe adding a way to calculate monthly average income, etc. I would also like to see the client ID displayed with the insurance and DOB on the left hand side of the client ledger.

All history of appointments are kept in one place with details of each present. Score!

Pros

I like that the tracker area makes it easy to see all of your appointment by provider/patient. It makes it easy to follow up with insurance, track start dates, and even look back to get an idea of personal progress (sometimes its hard to remember how long ago an event was discussed, but theranest makes that easy).

Cons

The latest update has made the web site booker very sensitive on mobile devices (it is hard to progress one week forward, and I will often skip ahead unexpectedly.

Pros

Your feature is horrible for doing couples via tele mental health. The system does not support this and now 20 months into remote practice, I am not taking new clients with this agency because the process of working is so cumbersome compared to the other practice management software I use for my private practice. I find it scandalous that after 20 months you have not fixed this problem.

Nothing, this software system has been clunky and difficult to use

Cons

The billing support specialist had me change a bunch of settings and it resulted in me not getting paid. I won’t get $3k-$5k in 2019 because of their errors and they refuse to help get it solved. No one picks up the phone. I’m livid.

### "Great Product & Pricing But Service Note Functionally Lacking"

I second all the glowing reviews but our Group bills Public Payers (Medicare, Tricare, Medicaid) in addition to commercial payers. We loved the user interface and ability to set up locations, accept payments, billing interface, and access /caseloads. Theranest has THE best pricing of the competitors. Most EHRs want to charge by # of Providers. That works great if every Therapist is Full Time. Theranest charges by tiers of # of active Clients so their pricing is linked to your revenue. GREAT Concept! However the Progress Note feature does not work for our Payers. The built-in SOAP Note is the only Note that will integrate with the client's treatment plan. Our Payers require that each Note is linked to a Treatment Goal. Also ALL of our Payers require PIE or BIRP format. Our therapist were not able to select/change the CPT/Service code when they completed their Clinical Service Note. The CPT/Svc code selection is made in the Appointment Screen and the therapist would have to go to another screen to change the Service Code. All the Therapist sees is the session elapsed time that they can change , for example, 60 minutes can be for family or Ind. therapy (different CPT codes). Also it puts the burden on the scheduler to choose the correct service vs the Therapist that conducts the session. Also, there was no way to seemingly enter an Add-on CPT code (complexity/crisis) to the primary service. AWESOME CUSTOMER SERVICE!! I did the 30 day trail and asked for a 14 day extension they were very accommodating. Wish the Progress Note documentation had met our needs.

Pros

online, secure, works through officeAlly.com, keeps improving with more features or fixes added regularly, price is acceptable if you can keep inactive clients de-activated-but see below for what interferes with that.

Cons

way more clicks per action than seem necessary. Very hard to keep track of payments because ERA listings have no information in the list (so you have to open every one to see who it is for and what dates and what insurance etc.) we're resorted to going to office ally, getting the info there, then working to record payments and write-offs in theranest. no one available to hire to do any of this (I asked theranest) waiting a day or longer for an email answer to questions, means you don't have the help when you have the time available to do the desk work

We really like it, just one or two things that we hope we can change in the near future.

Pros

Being able to keep track of all appointments, kept, cancelled, rescheduled.

Cons

We really wish we could add an Open and Closed column on the main page for all of our clients, so that we do not have to go into each and every clients page. We do not need a billing column, as all our services are free.

Pros

I like the ability to schedule appointments in a quick manner. I like the ability to see staff's calendars to identify who is available for another appointment. I like the ability to provide telehealth directly through the software.

Cons

I dislike that individual functions cannot be altered per user. Our administration is able to see items that I don't want them to see, however, I cannot turn off that function without turning off another.

Pros

The ease and completeness of the software for our employees. We are a small behavioral health agency so we needed a software in which our employees would be comfortable in it's use. It has surpassed our expectations. It is in daily use and I believe the employee use it more that our past software because of the ability to quickly complete progress notes.

Cons

I only thing that comes to mind would be the ability to change some of the drop downs to add additional info.

Reason for choosing TheraNest

The ease of operation and the quickness of adding info. The information dropdowns were key to our use and the addition of the Wiley planner was an added plus.

Pros

Life is busy, and this streamlines my practice so that info, notes, and billing are all just clicks away. It is so easy to bill insurance companies, and the encryption for credit cards is a dream!

Cons

Now that the format has been updated, it's easier to navigate. Glitches that I experience are probably due to me- lol! The app does not have the all of the options available on the site. I'd love to be able to submit billing through the app. As of now, it does not appear that clients have the option of signing in to do paperwork, schedule, etc. That would be a helpful option.

I learned a lot having to figure things out on my own.

Pros

I liked the forms and templates. It was the first EHR software I had used. I did not have a comparison.

Cons

Billing is complicated. Forms are difficult to complete in session. Support is terrible. It was a chat. It took days, many times, to get a response and the response would not address the issue. Fees increased, but service and product were stagnant. When you want out, it is very difficult to export data and you have to pay them to store it.

Organization, time management, no missed notes.

Pros

Lots of great features, new ones all the time without big bumps in cost. But the best part of TheraNest is the customer service. Not only are they fast but they answer all of my dumb questions as if they aren't, they walk me through the things I screw up with patience. They also offer lots of tutorials if one would only use them. And when I say 'one' I mean me!

Cons

At one time there was no way to see that an email reminder had been sent to clients. Sometimes clients say they didn't get one and I can't confirm it. Now that I have text reminders going though I can see that.
