### "A great platform for private practitioners!"

Honestly, TheraNest has been the key to my success. Having just about everything right there has made all the difference.

Pros

TheraNest provides the backbone for my business. It manages my records, scheduling, invoicing, and insurance claims. It has functionality for appointment reminders, secure messaging, running credit cards, even HIPAA-compliant video chat. The service has also been able to grow with me, allowing to start at a low cost and add (and remove) features as needed.

Cons

With TheraNest being web based, connectivity is occasionally (rarely) an issue. Also, the TheraNest team is constantly working to improve the site, which has created some bumps in the road. But, the support team is fast and responsive, and there is a portal to suggest new features, which they actually act on!

Overall, Theranest is a wonderful system that I would recommend to anyone in private practice.

Pros

Theranest makes it very easy to schedule clients, organize notes, plan therapy sessions, and even organize billing. We chose Theranest due to the strong suite of services. I love that therapy notes that can take 30-40 minutes when writing by hand or in other software take only 10 minutes in Theranest. Additionally, it sends my notes to my supervisors to review.

Cons

The pricing does go up as you acquire more clients and the cost can be prohibitive. We typically archive clients as soon as they stop attending therapy regularly in order to keep this under control

Initially, I thought that it would be user-friendly with all the clients that you can add but then realized that you are not able to add more without paying high fees

Cons

The fact that you have limited clients that you can add before it jumps to a bigger package that you may not need

Hi Rosie we appreciate your feedback. We understand that our competitors use a model to charge by staff instead of by client. We find that our subscription model allows our customers the opportunity to pay as they grow. You are only ever paying for what you need. And while you might have part time staff or admins, billers, etc. You don't have to pay for those users with TheraNest. All staff are free.

Very pleased with the program and the customer service is outstanding! It is also very easy on our budget by being billed per client than by counselor. And the non-profit discount doesn't hurt either!

Pros

How user friendly it is and the features work well with our private practice.

Cons

On the appointment screen, it would be helpful for the counselor to have the system to have the day of the week automatically populate along with the actual date of the appointment.

So far so good - I need to use the platform for additional period of time in order to provide additional and more in depth information.

Pros

I've only used this program for 30 days but it seems to be user friendly. I enjoy the view knowledge base function and step-by-step videos - allows me to education myself on how to use majority of functions in TN.

Cons

I would like the opportunity to run reports specific to individual clients, descriptions of the reports (i.e. a short blurb explaining reports run. For example, what does the detailed client report do for me), and the ability to access notes I need to sign other than the alerts.

You certainly can run reports specific to an individual client by filtering the report by Client Name. You can use the Detailed Client report for all kinds of things like to get an idea of clients you haven't seen in a while. You can also access notes you need to sign using the Progress Note Signature report. This report will let you know about notes you have or have not yet signed.

I am a therapist working in private practice; I do all my own record keeping and accounts. Pros - Fantastic provider support - quick, friendly, and personable. Very reasonable monthly rates. Once you get the hang of it, quite easy to use. Pretty to look at. Cons - It was much harder than expected to learn how to navigate the software. Connecting to the electronic billing was difficult, cumbersome, and extremely time-consuming. First you have to set up electronic billing agreements with each insurance provider. Then, billing information for each insurance company, and in some instances, each plan within the company, has to be entered individually and with great care to make sure it is working right. For instance, an EAP within United/Optum might be billed under a completely different customer ID than their regular individual coverage. YOU have to make sure everything is exactly right. Expect this, initially, to take many hours of tedium - and expect a hiccup whenever a plan, copay, or coverage changes. I don't know if this is true of all record-keeping software programs, or particularly Theranest, but it is a pain. Specific things I don't love about Theranest mostly include financial/bookkeeping functions. When I receive a payment, I have to receive it manually in TWO places - the client's ledger, and also the Submitted Claims section. This is silly. Also, maneuvering between sections is not intuitive (for me, anyway) and it took awhile to become adept.

Pros

In the beginning, Theranest did not provide great customer support. I believe they have no ownership, but for whatever reason the customer support now exceeds my expectations. Keep up the great work.

Cons

I really do not have any complaints at this time. The software works wonderfully for me. I spend VERY little time on billing and I do it ALL myself. The other big function I use it for is for progress notes and treatment plans. Very easy and helpful here.

This software will work well if you are a single practice owner. If you have a group of therapists it could be a near disaster 1) the software runs from a calendar and not from actual note entries. If you don't update your calendar after a postponed visit, your bills will be based on the previous calendar date. So you could accidentally bill for a date you didn't provide care (original date) and not bill for the actual date that service was provided (new date). This could be disastrous if you ever get audited by the insurance company. I have made several calls regarding this issue and actually requested to explain to the software developer how to fix the issue since I do have a programming background. All the programmer has to do is out a hard block if a therapist is trying to enter a note without an appointment on the calendar then the therapist MUST be redirected to create a new calendar appointment in order to proceed. In that way, it will be guaranteed that the calendar appointment actually has a treatment note affiliated to it. 2) we signed up with Availity as our clearing and could never really get it integrated with theranest. Reconciling receivables is nonexistent because payments don't get updated as promised 3) we have several service providers who are paid per treatment provided. Payroll visit summation is non-existent. It is very tedious counting actual treatment notes per patient/per therapist. I literally have to pull up every patient, sort by the therapist and then go in and count each treatment note for the payroll two week pay period. Honestly, our census is growing and hiring more therapists and it would be impossible for us to continue using theranest if these issues are not addressed and fixed. 4) Therapists can open new cases unnecessarily especially when they are new to the software. The software should put a stop to that unless that patient is being re-admitted to therapy after a significant break (6 months and up). We have to go in and manually close all of the extra cases. One pro is the cost. There is learning curve involved.

Terrible. Lots of very happy and friendly people, no actual assistance.

Pros

I tried to switch to their billing. It has been a NIGHTMARE and with very little assistance. They feature 24/7 assistance but nope, it's more like a week and a half after you message someone gets back to you to say "I am not an expert in that so someone will be in touch." Do NOT waste your time or money.

Cons

Billing feature, it's complete crap. We tried to utilize their billing feature and it has not worked. It's been over a month and I haven't seen a successful payment.

This platform is SO user friendly! I had tried several others that drove me insane and was recommended to use this one. I LOVE it! The customer service is unmatched! They always get back to me right away and answer my questions as many times as I need answers.

Cons

Wish there were more relevant forms already made such as a release of information which is a pretty standard form in our industry.

Exceptional, easy and well worth the cost.

Pros

Having used rather complex software when working for large health care agencies (that were not tailored for BH), this was a breeze. I was able to quickly pick up on what features and functions I needed by clicking around during the trial period. I'm sure there is higher level functionality that I just don't need to worry myself with as I don't bill insurance and just needed a HIPAA compliant software to store treatment notes and do simple invoicing.

Cons

There are some simple visual improvements that could be made to the appointment scheduling/calendar function. It's easier to view the calendar (including non-patient appointments) on the app than on the web. Customer support is not available after-hours or weekends, but the software is pretty easy to use and I haven't needed support often.

I have more than one clinician so if an appt is scheduled for one clinician it's next to impossible to click in the same appt slot to schedule an appointment for another clinician. I do realize that the appt can be made by selecting the staff member and doing it that way but it would just be easier if there was a way to do it from the screen that shows all the appts for all the clinicians. The other thing is having to pay a separate fee per clinician to use the treatment planner.

Ability to share information with my clients where they can actually understand as well.. entering their treatment plans and working with them is all confidential abut clients like to know what therapists, treatment teams are adding into their plan and notes.

Pros

Using this HIPAA compliant and user friendly software puts ease and organization into process. Coming with a mobile application which I use for my Android helps me to stay on top of scheduling, case notes, progress notes, and treatment plans especially if I or my colleagues are on call and traveling (beats carrying around a laptop). The Client Portal is easy to access and the dashboard is neat and presented few difficulties while navigating. This software also allows other colleagues to check into the client portal and cosign notes, as well as adding to treatment plans if necessary I really enjoy this easy to manage software compared to other software I have used in the past.

Cons

No reduction in price when you get more clients, there are a few bugs I have encountered but customer service whether on their site or their number they have been helpful.. usually it is just time consuming when having to wait while they restart the program and install updates.

No one answers the phone, they told us that there are only 2 people in the billing area for support, not that I need help billing; the software is not equipped to handle the day-to-day workflow; on the contrary, it takes us more time to bill because of the deficiencies.

Pros

Absolutely nothing from a billing perspective.

Cons

This program is grossly insufficient for billing purposes and the representative even told us that it wasn't created for billing which makes me feel even worse. You don't listen to our suggestions. You aren't billers and I have over 30 years in this industry and frankly have never dealt with such incompetence.

It was not my choice - it was the practice owner's choice and purely because of cost; not functionality

The system is very user-friendly and the support staff is very prompt in their response time, very knowledgeable and correct issues or help direct clinicians to where they need to go. They also have been constantly in communication with a therapist to improve the system. They have implemented many new aspects to the program which continues to make record keeping easier and less time-consuming.

In the mental status section of the progress note, the drop downs do not go away when you type in the box unless you save each time you move from one block to the next. The Wiley progress notes are not accessible from the calendar and that often causes time errors.
