I love that potential clients can schedule with me without having to play phone tag. The website widget is very helpful.

Pros

This software is very functional and has the functions that I need for my small practice. I also appreciate the trial pricing as I work to build my small private practice.

Cons

It is somewhat difficult to navigate at the beginning with all of the options, but I caught on quickly.

As a long-time user of TrackYourHours.com, I was excited to learn the creator of that service was launching a new online record-keeping and practice management service. The site currently is very usable and there's a slew of upcoming features which are very attractive, but it's the overall design philosophy I appreciate so much. Rather than flood you with dozens of features you'll never use, SimplePractice lets you enable or disable only the functions important to you. I spent about an hour on the phone with Howard, the site founder, and he said it the best: "I don't want to spend a lot if time in my software. I want to get in, write my notes, do my billing or scheduling and get out." I have so much faith in this system that I signed up for a year of service now to lock in my low, lifetime rate even though I'm probably 3 to 6 months from seeing my first private practice clients. Once their new features such as the online client portal and iOS app come online, this will easily earn a full 5 stars from me!

I'm just opening a new practice with 5 clinicians. All of my questions were answered quickly and patiently! I love the features and the ease of having everything in one place.

Pros

The scheduling software and the billing features. The documentation tools are excellent.

Cons

I was/am a little unclear about how to set up an administrator. I purchased an annual membership with the purpose of adding clinicians. I was told later that I had to have a month-to-month plan in order to set up an administrator. I didn't fully understand that...but that is a minor issue. The services are great!

I'm a therapist just starting my own practice. I have tried to do what most of my friends seem to be doing - maintain paper records. It was very inefficient. Yet I was leery of any electronic records software, because of the very poor experience with the electronic medical records in the agency I used for work in. And then I tried Simple Practice. I am very impressed with the ease of use - making notes, ICD-10 diagnoses, CPT codes, keeping track of payments, insurance billing paperwork, scheduling, client interface. I am very happy with the seamless integration between a full version of the site, iPhone app, and how the calendar in simple practice is merging with my iCal. I just got paneled with one of the insurance companies, so I expect more clients -and I'm feeling confident about managing the new caseload. While initially the interface seemed somewhat confusing, watching the webinars was very helpful in explaining how the system works. Thank you Simple Practice in supporting solo providers like myself.

I am enjoying not having to send reminders to my clients and having them enter and schedule their own appts using my portal.

Cons

I don't understand how to upload my own forms to the website and none of the classes I have taken have been able to answer this. Also, I need to learn how to use it for billing.

Pros

I just started using this but so far I really like the ease of getting everything set up, doing the progress notes and I really like the treatment planner.

Cons

I really don’t like how it doesn’t automatically send a billing form to the insurance company. My old one would creat a billing sheet and send to the insurance company after every session note I filled out. I didn’t have to do it individually.

The calendar scheduling is a little clunky and not as flexible as other tools that I have used.

Still to be determined. I expect to completely replace our medical biller with SP and plan to replace our CC provider.

Pros

Easy to transition to and appears easy to use. Am still transitioning into SP.

Cons

Still to be determined. Do wish we could color code Appts on calendar like in Outlook otherwise, no real complaints yet.

I enjoy getting reminders about my daily schedule, notes that need to be written, and the overall structure of the clinical notes. Once I connected with customer service, the service provided was great!

Cons

Initially it was challenging getting help. Not having the ability to call a number was a little frustrating.

I have been pleased with the ease of Simple Practice so far! Although I have received fast responses from customer service, I do wish there was a telephone option to receive immediate service when needed.

Pros

One stop shop: notes, calendar, billing, superbills, teletherapy. It is intuitive and easy to use.

Cons

There aren’t more customizable forms for clients to complete online. Doesn’t allow for routine outcome monitoring with self-report measures.

I rely upon SimplePractice for organizing my private practice. It's a terrific tool. The only reason for docking a customer service star is, ironically, that they send out all of their emails to me as high priority, such that it comes into my Gmail account already starred. I used the star system in Gmail to manage my inbox the way I need to, so it's a bit frustrating to have to "un-star" SimplePractice's emails. Nevertheless, an otherwise excellent tool.

Customer service has been very responsive.

Pros

I love the usability of the app and write all my notes and log payments between sessions.

Cons

It took me a while to figure the software out, and I am still confused about a couple of specific billing features. Also the credit card function is not great— it’s expensive to use Swipe and it doesn’t make other forms of payment easy.

I'm still getting started with Simple Practice, but my experience so far has been excellent. I had a lot of questions about whether this Practice Management system was right for me, and Howard spent almost an hour talking to me about my needs and what Simple Practice has to offer. Then he scheduled a tutorial session with me to help me learn the software so that I could make the most of it. Howard was down to earth, friendly, and knowledgeable. So far I'm loving the new Client Portal that allows me to send out all my intake paperwork online to new clients. It almost feels too easy after how much effort I've been putting into managing my practice on my own. I wish that I could send out this paperwork to existing clients to get them onboard, but I know this feature (like many others) will be coming soon. The folks at Simple Practice seem ambitious and motivated to keep improving their program and adding new features. So far, I'm feeling excited about my decision to put my energy into Simple Practice.

Ease of organizing all of my practice paperwork.

Pros

The best thing about SimplePractice so far is having all of my practice management software in one place. I find it extremely convenient to be able to have a paperless office and to be able to house my client files and paperwork, my calendar, and my billing all in one place. I know there are a lot of other features that will help me manage my practice, but I have not yet explored those. I'm looking forward to using all functions of the software.

Cons

There isn't anything I do not like as of yet, as I am a new customer. However, there is a lot to learn, which has probably been my least favorite part of the process. Learning the software, while establishing clients and all the other things I need to do for my new practice has been a lot of work!

I have been at organizations in the past where EHR's were used but when I joined a group practice as a contact employee I was not sure I wanted to invest the time and money into one for myself. I feel that for the price SimplePractice has good value. It is intuitive to use, and the drop down menus make diagnosing simple. I do not need the billing component as the group I am in has a biller in place but I would think that would be a nice option to use. I also have not tried the APP but plan to do so when I get some time. My practice is very busy (30 plus people a week) and since I have limited time to set up new clients, SimplePractice has been great in that regard as I can do an initial set up in seconds and go back when I have time to put in the rest of the information. I wish they had a Substance Abuse specific (ASAM criteria) template and it would nice to have a suicide assessment in the templates as well. I do have to use Word documents for those but these are easily uploaded into the system.

I have used four different EHR products and Simple Practice is the most intuitive and easiest to learn so far. I think it is a great product and a great price.

Pros

I like the visual aesthetics and the work that has gone in to making it easy to use. It is fairly easy to use and lives up to the idea of keeping things simple. I also like the note formats and the scheduling calendar is also effective and useful. I am looking forward to using Smart Billing Pro.

Cons

I wish that it had a central to do list that compiles the sessions that are on the schedule in order to keep track of what notes have to still be done. Therapy Notes had this and it was a favorite feature of mine. You can also place other reminders in there.

It's allowing me to start a practice without a total mismatch of products/services.

Pros

It makes sense. Forms can be customized to fit practice needs. Calendar display is easy to read and set up. Client portal features are wonderful. Simple Practice has the features I want at an affordable cost per month. Seriously, it is simple.

Cons

Setting up the customized forms is time consuming. Uploaded pdfs cannot have e-signature option added. It would be nice to have more templates to select from as options.

I really like my Simple Practice except for the lack of live support. They have been making some improvements and I appreciate that but still wish I had more help with billing issues.

Pros

It allows me to continue to see my clients during the pandemic. It is easy for them to use. like that I can send them a link.

Cons

The telehealth feature can be a little "glitchy". My video fades in and out sometimes but not enough to stop the session.

Pros

The secure client portal and the ability to have clients sign consents and fill out intake forms prior to their first visit.

Cons

While there are plenty of note template already available, I'd love to see more intake for general wellness/coaching. I also found it tough to figure out how to use the calendar features but there is custom support available.
