### "It Needs MORE"

November 27, 2018

3.0

Over all, it works. It is awesome if you run your private practice solo. No problem at all. But for those who have a group practice, it needs lots of help.

Pros

I love that I can track client sessions, treatment notes, payment, etc. It is excellent for an individual clinician, but terrible for group practices.

Cons

I have many complaints - first the support team is not available to help. The program is not robust enough for a group practice, and it charges so much money for a larger corporation. I'd love to see some sort of discount for larger companies. I have two group practices and it allows double bookings. As you can imagine, a therapy practice can't have double bookings. We have to review the room usage weekly to catch double bookings. It does not allow us to change the front end view (client view). The front end shows our multiple rooms, instead of just showing our office location. It would be nice to have the ability to edit what clients see. It also doesn't allow us to merge data with quickbooks, so we spend hours with data entry each week.

Jennine, thank you for your candor and your review. We're glad that you love how SimplePractice can track client sessions, notes, and payments. We're committed to providing as much flexibility and control over your practice as possible - some practices prefer to book group or family appointments side-by-side, which is why SimplePractice does allow clinicians to double-book. If you'd like, we'd love to set up some time with you and our Group Practice Specialist, Paige, who can address some of the concerns you've raised here. We're committed to your success - feel free to reach out to me directly at gillian@simplepractice.com. - Gillian from SimplePractice

### "Excellent product overall, highly recommended all things considered."

September 29, 2021

4.0

Overall, the experience is very positive, great product.

Pros

1) Electronic forms is their strength, love this. 2) Well thought out workflow, they don't shoe-horn a particular way to take notes like TherapyNotes (They offer options in Simple practice). 3) Excellent vision to offer website hosting, very advance thinking on your part simple practice. 4) Credit card integration is very well done. 5) Ability to treat couples as a separate entity from single-clients also love this. 6) Forum to allow clients to vote on features that clients like, this is great.

Cons

1) No Multi-factor authentication option yet, this is a security concern in my opinion, my clients are complaining about this. Unfortunately, this is still not very high-voted in the community driven Prioritization process, I hope they will see the importance of this soon. 2) Their only option for credit card processing is Stripe, which charges 3% (therapy notes has lower credit card processing fee as of today, we just switched over). 3) The telehealth does not support multi-way calling yet. (minor, I can find alternative products for this).

### "Exceptional EHR"

May 9, 2023

5.0

The Team has been INCREDIBLE. I am incredibly grateful to each person at Luminello who has helped me. I am so thankful for how they fast-tracked the migration process to make it as smooth as possible. Thank you so much.

Pros

The Team has been EXCEPTIONAL at Luminello. They offer individualized attention, support, and assistance to my private psychiatry practice. The platform is user-friendly, efficient, and easy to navigate. The customer service is outstanding. I am incredibly grateful to be using this EHR and highly recommend Luminello to every person looking for an EHR that is focused on mental health & psychiatry.

Cons

Very satisfied. I would only request an integrated Spravato REMS feature for ease of compliance with this treatment and customized templates specific to Spravato and Ketamine Therapy.

### "SimplePractice increased prices AND took away features..."

January 10, 2022

1.0

Very poor. While the service sounded great to start, they blindsided their customers and have provided an underwhelming response to our concerns. I specifically wrote them regarding the rate increases and was provided a copy/paste response (which was already published elsewhere). It wasn't personalized and it most certainly didn't address my concerns. I would caution all who are considering using SimplePractice as their EHR. This company has increased prices multiple times in the course of 2 years with the latest being the most significant. They don't deliver on promises and they could care less about caring for those using their platform.

Pros

I've used SimplePractice as my EHR for a couple years. I liked it. It was easy to use. However, they announced rate increases that begin in March 2022. Their announcement was sent out less than 2 months in advance which doesn't feel like enough time for the customer to make a decision on which new plan to use or switch systems.

Cons

They are a shady and money hungry company. They don't actually listen to customer feedback that results in any improvements or changes. They promise future improvements, but nothing comes to fruition. My subscription cost has a 77% increase if I want to keep some of the same features while losing some of the features I currently have. It is a 154% increase if I want to keep ALL of the same features I currently have and gain a few features that I don't really need and have no use for. Due to that outrageous price increase, I have to look elsewhere for my needs.

### "Simplifies EVERYTHING"

January 12, 2021

5.0

Overall, it's been great! I was reluctant at first to pay what seemed like a lot of money at the time but they offer a world of information, tools, and resources to help with your business. It's a brilliant idea that is, for the most part, very well-executed.

Pros

SP is great for having everything you need to run a practice in one place. I have an app on my phone that I can use to quickly check my schedule, send reminders to clients and cancel, change, or add appointments. They have a good "reports" option so that you can see outstanding invoices, insurance claims, etc. plus a number of other categories. I really love how easy SP makes it to submit insurance claims. I don't want to do that by hand nor do I want to hire someone to do it for me so I really appreciate that. I like that clients can request appointments and that all of their info is in one place. SP was very quick to respond to COVID and I appreciate the HIPAA compliant telehealth platform they created during the pandemic at no additional charge. They have extensive training videos but I am mostly self-taught as that's how I learn best. They also offer pretty good CEU classes for not much money about a variety of topics. And, if you're like me and find it hard to sit for the entire class at once, they will email you reminders that you have unfinished classes which is always helpful.

Cons

It is very difficult to actually speak to customer service. I spend a LOT of time typing in questions and then wading through what others have also asked about and the answers they got. Real time waster since we all word the issues differently so you get many irrelevant answers to try to parse. Half the time I can't remember how to get someone to actually chat with me - when they do it seems to work fine but can also be cumbersome depending on what the issue is.

### "Very Helpful But Some Issues"

May 18, 2023

5.0

Overall, I haven't beaten the features of SimplePractice for my therapy business, but there are some glitches.

Pros

The ease of using SimplePractice is fairly high, the scheduling effective and the billing a relatively simple process (with a couple of issues, as you'll see in the cons). Typically, the video quality is fairly decent and the ability to drag and drop appointments is great.

Cons

The billing. When you have a new client, you are automatically set to "cash" instead of the card they have on their account. If you accidentally proceed (because efficiency is great!) and falsely state that the client made a cash payment, it is NOT user friendly on how to delete that payment and resubmit via card. I have to look up how to do it every time. I think my primary complaint is that in a lot of ways, the interface for billing is not intuitive and often can take a while to sort through. Also, clients have to have the app downloaded prior to sessions in order to attend via cell phone, though they are texted a link.

### "solo psychiatrist"

2.0

Horrible. Feel conned and ripped off. Now that I have many patients and am paying a biller and ever increasing fees to Luminello I feel trapped and am trying to search for anther EMR with prescribing and billing.

Pros

only feature - it helped me set up e prescribing.

Cons

No lab integration possible for solo telepsychiatry Added billing fees are exorbitant. Worst off 30% or more of claims submitted through APEX/Luminello are rejected. No support or guidance.

### "Great Service, Greedy Company"

January 7, 2022

4.0

Raising my fees 150% to keep two critical features (appointment reminders and calendar sync) that I already have. Never experienced such price gouging with any other service or product. Even oil companies aren't this greedy. Only gave me two months notice. On principle, I will have to switch to a new EHR and will never recommend this company unless they rethink their 2022 revisions to payment plans.

Pros

The platform is great, super user friendly with many features that are incredibly labor-saving.

Cons

I have not been able to set up accurate accounting, and must do it separately with an Excel spreadsheet, but this is minor.

### "AWESOME investment for my private practice!"

April 14, 2018

5.0

Pros

I like the Ehr features, how everything is available on my phone or computer. When I worked at an agency, I used Greenway, another electronic system, so this is simply so perfect for my private practice needs - organization, client info, convenience, customizable email templates/forms, all electronic paperwork. I appreciate the Simple Practice team behind the software! When I had an issue, we scheduled screen sharing to work through it and the team is very prompt with email replies. I love that everything is EASY and convenient, so I don't need any paperwork. I also like how stripe is connected and recurrent auto pay is an option. I am private pay, so it's easy to edit the cost of a client's session depending if they are on a sliding scale. Also, there is a "book online" feature, so I have added this to my website and clients are using it! One of my client's mom's loves booking sessions at 11pm and planning for the week ahead, so the feedback is super positive. Love it!

Cons

The app and the safari browse are different. Some things aren't in the app, so I always just keep the browser open. One thing I'd like to improve: there is only room for one person's phone number to get the automated text and voicemail reminders. I see kids and some teens, so I'd like mom, dad, and teen client to each get a text and voicemail reminder about the appointment. It would be great to have two three people's phone numbers to have auto texting reminders sent to them.

### "Great EMR and billing software for occupational therapy community based practice"

November 20, 2021

5.0

Our occupational therapy practice has really enjoyed the ease of SimplePractice whether we use it on our laptops or the mobile version since we don't have a physical location. The free trial was a great way to see how the program can work for us and we are so glad that it did it!

Pros

We have really enjoyed having the app feature for our community based practice. All of our therapists are not in a clinic and this allows for them to document anywhere and quickly. Making changes and creating templates is very easy and simple to do. Our team really has enjoyed the sync feature of the calendar with our G-suite as well as how easy it is to do billing. As the administrative person, submitting claims is SO easy that it has given so much more time to perform other tasks.

Cons

While the calendar syncs seamlessly for our practice, it would be nice that visually that appointment looks different other than looking for the CPT codes to denote a difference. We also have supervisory roles and sometimes it is shared between more than 1 therapist so it would be great to assign that more easily.

### "Great software - could use some simple features"

November 1, 2019

5.0

Good. Some key features that I wish were present with billing graphics and information, which I mentioned in the cons section. If these upgrades/changes could be made, I would rate SimplePractice as excellent.

Pros

I love the editable notes/forms and the online access! Client portal is also more streamlined and user friendly compared to competitors. Reports are nice and helpful for the most part. Free text and voice are nice (however you pay the difference with the higher cost of claim submission compared to competitors).

Cons

The billing tabs are difficult to understand as they don’t seem to be graphically easy to understand where each invoice is being applied. Looking quickly at the billing tab, it looks as if I have twice as many invoices than I actually need and some invoices, invoice for a zero balance (or even before an insurance payment is made). This makes the billing harder to understand than some of SimplePractice’s top competitors. Also, I wish the reports would show overall totals of figures (I.e. insurance payments owed, client balances owed, etc.). These features allow me to look quickly at client balances and billing and get an idea of where billing sits very quickly, and again, is a feature with competitors. Being a one man office right now, theses features save valuable time and seem like easy fixes to the system. I also wish Simple Practice had phone support - just for the fact that time is valuable and I don’t want to wait to resolve an question.

Reason for choosing SimplePractice

It was a hard decision over TherapyNotes. TherapyNotes has billing features and layout that is easier to understand. I went with SimplePractice because the client portal and online for,s are more accessible to clients and staff. Heads up though, in regard to features and accessibility, TherapyNotes is catching up to SimplePractice.

### "Satisfied Chiropractor & Acupuncturist"

February 28, 2018

5.0

Pros

Lots of important pros. 1) Online scheduling and intake, 2) integrated payment processing and auto-pay, 3) cloud based, 4) competitive pricing, 5) very easy to learn, 6) the team is getting faster (slightly) with updates/improvements, 7) works for chiropractic billing now, 8) free online help articles, and 9) free month trial. We looked into so many options, and Simple Practice was clearly the best in our opinion. We're still happy with our choice; the pros outweigh the cons!

Cons

1) Text reminders: you only have a few options of when they go out, and all options are 24+ before the appointment. A text reminder shortly before greatly reduces no-shows, so it's a major feature missing. 2) Confirming appointments: you can't turn off the need to confirm appointments, and it's time consuming to confirm every. single. appointment. We want the option to turn off confirmation, or at least for some appointment types. 3) Email reminders: you have to turn them on for every patient, and it's not quick to get to it. 4) Sales tax: they don't track it, so you have to manually keep track. You shouldn't use this software if you sell products regularly. 5) Customer service: too slow. Not just initial response time, but how many back and forth emails it takes to get an answer. I tried the live q&a and it didn't get me an answer any faster. Chat would be a big improvement. 6) Group practice: overall it works well. The thing that is lacking is the report to help with payroll. It's confusing and needs better instructions/help articles 7) Online scheduling: overall good. The con is cancelling online. A) it's hard to find, so we get more phone calls than we used to. B) we let patients cancel up to 12 hours beforehand, but the software cuts it off 24 hours before, so we again get more calls than before. 8) Color coding: you can't set the background color of appointments. For us, it would be so helpful to make insurance appointments a different color than self-pay.

### "Nadirah SimplePractice Review"

July 25, 2019

4.0

I have had great experience with SimplePractice. I like that I can continue my practice without paying excessive rent for office space.

Pros

I like it is an all in one virtual office. The Telehealth video allows me to visit with client even while traveling.Collecting payment is less of a hassle. Love the client portal such appointment reminders, al of the required forms, such as confidentiality, can be emailed to client. You can add the link to your website. I like the virtual office so far.

Cons

The pros outweighs the cons. I like to call for assistance and get an immediate answer. The assistance is email based. Sometimes, the profile can get cumbersome, especially when you have occurring appointments with the same clients.

Reason for choosing SimplePractice

I reviewed both therapynotes and simplepractice. I believe the name attracted me along with the free trial. Once the free trail ended, I thought about how it supported my goals of leaving a physical office to a virtual office.

### "Administration is Frustrating"

May 26, 2021

3.0

Pros

It is simple to use and if you don't have a large number of clients that you see then it works well.

Cons

None of the billing reports include all data points that is necessary for keeping track of payments and insurance reimbursements. For example, one report may have date of service and paid amount, but not the date the payment was made or for which clinician. Another report may have the date of service, client, and clinician, but not the payment amount or date it was paid. This makes it necessary to keep records outside the system which creates a problem for record keeping from a HIPAA standpoint. It's also a problem that we are paying for a system that doesn't cover all our needs. The second significant problem is that Simple Practice doesn't allow patient medical record numbers. They also have stated they do not intend to include this in future improvements. When you can't use the billing reports because they are incomplete, and then you can't assign a medical record number to a patient, it makes it extremely difficult to follow HIPAA guidelines on record keeping. You can assign a medical record number to a patient, but there is no place to put it so you are unable to do any reports or searches using the number. And, again, you must keep a record of it outside the system.

Review Source

Response from SimplePractice

June 11, 2021

Hi Amber, thank you for the detailed review! You're right, none of our Reports include the date an insurance payment was made, but the Appointment Status Report includes the date of service, amount owed, amount insurance paid, amount client paid and the clinician's name. Here's more on the Appointment Status Report: \[SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN\]! Although you can't assign a medical record number in the system, each client has a unique numerical code in the URL. You can use these numbers, or the entire URL to distinguish your clients from one another outside the system. - Ruth from SimplePractice

### "Overall Helpful Software), as well as "

September 28, 2018

5.0

I'm surprised to love SimplePractice so much! It's been a really great way to take control of and streamline multiple facets of my practice.

Pros

I switched from paper files to SimplePractice, and as someone who doesn't always enjoy the tech version of things, I'm a surprised fan of SimplePractice. I enjoy the ease of scheduling and the 2-way sync with my Google Calendar, the paperless intake process (which I finally started using a few months in and wish I had been using it from the beginning), and being able to track my income and completed notes. Customer service has also been very friendly thus far.

Cons

There are very limited demographic questions for clients in the intake process, which are unfortunately not editable by the clinician. I have the option to create own intake paperwork, but have to inform clients to ignore the demographic section and just fill out the more affirming open-ended questions in my intake form. Credit card integration through Stripe is great in theory, but I have found much cheaper rates (with stored cards and HIPAA compliance) through Ivy Pay. I also wish that the "Insights" section showed estimated income for all upcoming months with scheduled appointments, not just the current month. It's an incredibly helpful feature and would be great to use to plan our farther ahead.

### "Reliable, but pricey"

October 13, 2022

5.0

Consistent, reliable, but feels like I’m on my own when I encounter questions/issues.

Pros

Everything is in one place, and easy to use. The platform is reliable (I don’t use the telehealth feature), and straightforward.

Cons

That I have to pay the highest tier price simply because I wanted to keep calendar syncing. I don’t use the telehealth, and everything else was available under the mid tier price. Also, you can never actually talk with customer service, everything has to be searched in their FAQ sections.

Overall it has been a great experience.

Pros

It is easy to use. The calendar is straight forward. The videos are hippa compliant which is what most therapists look for. Everything is in one place which makes it great (notes, chart, intake, assessments, insurance codes, superbills)

Cons

Sometimes the video doesn't work due to some cache that has to be cleared to use. Sometimes clients do not get the video link

### "SLP Private Practice "

September 21, 2021

5.0

Pros

Simple Practice has been an amazing software to use while running my own speech therapy private practice. It has streamlined all aspects of my practice. It is very helpful to have all intake forms on line so that I can send them to families to fill out and they are automatically put into the clients file. The billing is very easy to use and I have had no complaints from families. I like the calendar and scheduling features to help me organize sessions each week.

Cons

Simple Practice had a learning curve when I first started using it in my practice. It took some time to learn the features and there are some features that do not apply to my practice. The price did go up after using the program for about 6 months. I also built my own website through Simple Practice and was not thrilled with the lack of variety to use in the website.

### "I wish Simple Practice did more, was easier to use, and the customer service was better"

November 7, 2019

4.0

Barely satisfied. I ran out of room in the Con's box.

Pros

As a working mom of two young children, I was looking for something to save me some time. Once I figured it out on my own (which took too long in my opinion because of unhelpful video tutorials and unhelpful customer service), it now has saved me some time. I like how easy it is to chart progress notes. It has saved time and desktop space. Once I figured out how to submit claims, I appreciated not having to manually enter the information myself every time I have submitted in the past. These were two main reasons I wanted to switch.

Cons

I wish it could do more and was easier to use. Here are some features that would be great additions to Simple Practice: - Have the ability to be Excel where I can track office expenses (i.e., office supplies, tax deductions) - You MUST make customer service easier to get ahold of and more knowledgeable. Email back-and-forth communication is a frustrating customer service option. - Have your customer service people be more professional. When I video-ed for my free 30-minute video at the beginning of using the software, the person was late, not professionally dressed, and looked like they were at a beach house. I was also frustrated that the employee did not know more than I did. They had to check-in with people and then get back to me. I knew much more about insurance and how it worked than the person I spoke to. - I dislike the tutorial videos - they were not very helpful and felt like a waste of time. - In the Coverage Report, I would greatly benefit from being able to get the SPECIFIC benefit information for Mental Health services. This is often different from the patient's medical benefits (different copays, coinsurances) - Have it easier to be able to pick the insurance carrier from the insurance list - it is currently very confusing - I am certain I am not getting the most out of the software but am frustrated because I don't know how to get more out of it. I don't feel that I can count on Simple Practice team members to help me either.

Reason for choosing SimplePractice

Because my trusted supervisor uses it. However, once I talked to her about my issues, she said she had the same ones.

### "Simplepractice new pricing structure forces all to pay highest level"

February 2, 2022

1.0

Great until now.

Pros

None.

Cons

The site just announced a new pricing structure that removes important features -- none of which are costly to implement -- from their lower cost plans. In order to have a biller added to your account or have calendar synchronization, one has to buy the top level.

Response from SimplePractice

April 18, 2022

When changing our pricing, we conducted extensive research on how to charge customers at a rate that was commiserate with the services we provide and the labor it requires. We also conducted research on the necessary features and most utilized functions and segmented that data based on the stage of private practice the customer was in: how long they'd been in private practice, if they were a solo-practitioner, small group, large group practice, client case load etc. The new Essential Plan is very similar to our sunset Professional Plan, but it's meant for a solo-practitioner. We've tailored 3 distinct plans to better fit the stages our customers' private practice journey - including an affordable Starter plan. We added many new, highly requested, features in 2021, and extended options for customer support. We appreciate your feedback as we continue to build our product and introduce more customization in our subscription plans in the future. -Sara

### "Simple Practice "

February 3, 2022

4.0

Pros

Easy to customize Client portal easy to upload into client charts

Cons

Customer services is not the best. As of March 25, 2022 they have increased prices and put the most common features (appointment reminders, calendar sync) in the most expensive package (making it a $30 increase for no additional features) Simple Practice does not listen to feedback from their customers.

### "Price Gauged Solo Practitioners!"

February 1, 2022

3.0

The last year has not been a good experience and in the process of looking for another EHR.

Pros

All the features it has the ability to give a practice.

Cons

Have been using for many years. Always felt it was a great value. Over the past year or so they have added features that are not necessary and things most therapists already have (EG websites, directory, forms). They have officially raised their prices which is understandable; however, the drastic increase that went from a basic feature (such as calendar syncing) or an added biller is only available on their most expensive tier package. They essentially are forcing many providers to increase paying them over $30 more a month or having to switch the EHR software. It makes sense to add more options but to make a lot of options "basic" that are not used by most of us to charging a lot more for solo practitioners is highly disheartening.
