The SimplePractice platform provides everything a provider could want in an online record-keeping and billing service. An intuitive user interface, appropriate advanced tools, and deeper analytics are all supremely helpful for anyone developing their first practice or maintaining a previously-established one. There are still some wrinkles in need of ironing such as the inability to set a custom session length, but these are ostensibly mitigated by the user feedback function which allows users to propose and vote on changes as a community.

Pros

As the name implies, it is very simple. This was great when it came to initially deploying and then using the platform. Patients did sometimes complain that due to the simplicity, they lacked the ability to accomplish things in the client portal that they might otherwise with a more complex system.

Cons

Some of the simplicity ended up being more of a crutch than being helpful. But this may have changed since I last used the software.

I'm a newly licensed MFT and am making the transition from working in community mental health back into private practice. I am still getting to know the Simple Practice software, but so far, it is a perfect fit for me: intuitive, very user friendly, and it does everything I have needed so far as I build up my practice - full digital charts, billing, calendar with reminders, etc. I feel like I am easily learning many of the ins and outs of private practice through this software that I would otherwise struggle with. In fact, I have no complaints so far. When a minor billing issue arose at the time I decided to move from the free trial to purchasing the software, a Simple Practice representative contacted me within a few hours and resolved the issue.

Pros

I like the mobile app and ease of the program through a web based services

Cons

I don’t like that there is not Wiley treatment planning included, voice dictation for notes, and I cannot use my own draft of notes on my mobile device.

Pros

I like how user friendly it is, even for someone like me who does not do well with technology. I also like how quickly I am responded to when I contact support for help. The SimplePractice team is friendly and helpful.

Cons

When I am at work and do not have my computer, it would be more convenient if the phone app were a little more updated so that I could see more of my patient's documents if I have not had a chance to before the session. I would also like to be able to make a payment on the app.

Excellent database system for private practice therapist whether you are a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist or Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Easy to use, prints statements, and Superbills as well as uploads clinical forms for each patient/client. HIPPA compliant takes the worry out of private practice. Looking forward to updates that include insurance forms (CMS-1500), statistical reports, and a smart phone app. Excellent customer service and support and the price is VERY competitive and budget friendly. Check it out with a complementary 30-day free trial. (This is from the same people who created Track Your Hours, for a comprehensive, BBS approved way to compute hours needed towards licensure for MFT Interns or Associate Social Workers)

It has been quite easy to use this software and staff have been responsive.

Pros

SimplePractice is an intuitive tool for the end user. It also has the ability to customize forms, etc. The mini-courses are helpful.

Cons

When customizing, you are not able to go back and add questions in between your document.

Reason for choosing SimplePractice

It had the most resources to be efficient as a solo practice.

Being able to use this comprehensive software is wonderful. Having access to clinical and administrative processes all in one place provides for an effective and efficient way to practice. I appreciate the psychotherapy note not being part of the record and the ability to edit if needed.

Cons

I have just run into a snag with setting SP up as a vendor. Hoping it all works out:) I have not used customer support but will be engaging them in this issue.

I tested out several EHRs before deciding to go with Simple Practice. Some of the other similarly priced programs were confusing to use and/or geared more towards medical providers than mental health providers. Another very popular mental health EHR that I tried was slightly easier to use but it cost about 20% more and didn't offer a client portal or a smartphone app. Simple Practice has a lot in common with that program and given the fact that if offers more for less money, it was an easy choice to make. I have really appreciated Simple Practice's customer service as they have been quick to answer questions or resolve issues. They seem to be constantly striving to improve the program and are receptive to feedback/suggestions from customers.

I had been searching for a practice management software. I signed up for several free trails to get a better feel for what was available. I wasn't completely convinced by SimplePractice but so far, so good. It was easy to use, love the app and the reminders to keep me on task. I was concerned about not having online billing but I understand it is in the works. The other concern was the ability to customize the times on the calendar to my work schedule, I understand that will also be a feature in the near future. I have a solo practice and I see a limited number of clients weekly. Therefore, the price was excellent and I was able to get (and eventually will get) the features that are important for me in managing my counseling service.

The elimination of paper files is my favorite aspect of this software.

SimplePractice is an asset to my practice in terms of time saved and ease of use. I highly recommend this EMR to any clinician/practitioner who would like to increase their organization , efficiency and overall productivity.

Pros

I’ve recently subscribed to SimplePractice following the recommendation of a colleague. I find it to be user friendly and easy to navigate. I appreciate the brief training videos and the extent to which one may customize how they utilize the system.

Cons

The percentage taken for credit/debit card payments is higher w/ it’s online payment processing than other similar card readers.

I have looked at several different therapy softwares and I have decided to go with Simple Practice. It is completely functional, has an app for easy access to my schedule on my phone, is highly moldable to my office needs and I can sync my calendar with my other calendars. A couple of details (that are in the works from what I hear) is that I would like to be able to purchase software for our group practice and I would like to use employee email addresses more than one time within the software.

Pros

The layout of this EMR is intuitive and seems to cover everything. What I love most about it is the tutorials ready to help teach you anything you may have questions about and the immediate customer support you can get.

Cons

As with everything, it is not perfect and will likely get better in time. I would like to have a way I could sync my calendar or client portal with my colleague who has her own private practice but shares the same office space. While we don't want to create a company together, it would be nice if our calendars or client portals could be synced without compromising PHI.
