### "Simple Practice"

September 24, 2018

5.0

I am happy I made the switch to Simple Practice!

Pros

I really like that it's all-inclusive. Once you get the hang of how the system works it seems as if it really does have all you need in one place. I also like that you can send automatic reminders, run credit cards automatically, etc. I believe this will continue to save me lots of time in the long-run. Which is what I love the most about it! That allows me to spend more time with my kiddo once I am home instead of worrying about doing admin stuff.

Cons

1\. As a potential customer, I had multiple questions and it was really hard to find how to get in touch with someone. It frustrated me to the point where I almost just didn't sign up. After I signed up though they've seemed really willing to help if you had questions. 2. There are a few things I don't love - like as I've scheduled a telehealth client it doesn't show up on the calendar as my in-person sessions do. I also wish the calendar was a little more flexible with booking times, rather than choosing on the hour or half hour. I haven't allowed clients to book online yet themselves because I can have more flexibility when I do it in person. 3. I'd love to see if include a feature for bookkeeping, rather than having to also purchase something like QuickBooks.

### "Simple Practice"

April 25, 2023

4.0

One of the most simple to learn and use. Very well designed and to the point!

Pros

The ease of use! This EHR software is very easy to use. If the documents that you need are not already present, it allows you to create what you need.

Cons

NAThere isn't a lot of negative with Simple Practice. There are only a few small glitches I noticed with the TX plans but these are easily overcame.

### "I always recommend Luminello"

August 31, 2022

5.0

Luminello is an amazing tool for my practice. It is beautiful and functional for all my private practice needs and I highly recommend it to everyone.

Pros

I love the flow and ease of use of Luminello. All the features that I utilize for my practice are included which are the eprescribing, note charting, scheduling, billing, and intake form. They are all very simple and effective to use.

Cons

Difficult to set up self scheduling for my clients. I am unable to program specific responses or information to the appointment reminder or confirmation messages. Also, if they self-schedule, they are not able to receive the link for virtual appointments, so I always have to message them separately.

### "Software frequently does not work for telehealth and customer service won't address it."

May 27, 2021

3.0

Disappointed and at this point thinking I have no choice but to move my practice software and telehealth sessions onto another platform.

Pros

I like the ease of use and the platform interface.

Cons

At least once a month, the telehealth software is down and clients are unable to log into sessions. Other telehealth works fine and it is clearly not the users' fault, but the customer service will refuse to address the problem. The help forums are filled with users complaining about the camera not working for telehealth since the software was updated. The customer service is terrible and will tell you to update your brand new computer rather than admit that their update was flawed. Yesterday it happened for the second time this month, and the entire site was down for 2 hours. Makes us look unprofessional and immensely frustrating to be once again dismissed by the "customer service" team (they call it rare in the same generated response every time it happens, which again is every couple weeks). They should read their own help forums.

Hi Tessa, we sincerely apologize for the Telehealth outage on 5/26! It's never our intention to be dismissive, but there are instances where we need to investigate an issue further before being able to provide an update, or solution. We appreciate the feedback and are making improvements to our communication style around issues that arise unexpectedly. When reaching out to our Customer Success Team regarding Telehealth issues, they may give you general troubleshooting tips at first, but if those don't work, they should escalate your request to a Technical Team member. Our Technical Team can look into your Telehealth call logs and provide you individualized assistance. We also have many customers who've opted out of our Telehealth service, but continue to use our platform for our other practice management features. To disable Telehealth, go to Settings > Subscription Information. Thanks again! - Ruth from SimplePractice

### "Price Gouging! RUN AWAY!!!"

February 2, 2022

3.0

Pros

is simple to use and has a lot of great features, similar to other EHR's.

Cons

As of March 2022, (SP) is changing its fee structure. They now will have a top-tier plan ($99) that includes all of their features that were included at their $69/month plan. The top-tier plan includes advanced features like a video platform, therapist directory, and a very basic website. However, SP decided to move appointment reminders, calendar sync, and online patient scheduling to the top-tier plan. These are features that have always been included in their basic plan, that are basic features with other EHR's. Now, in order to retain these basic features, clinicians are required to pay for the top-tier plan even though they have no interest in the video platform or website. Why should I have to go from paying $69/month to $99/month to keep basic features? SP was purchased by a large company and they are forcing clinicians to choose the top tier plan by putting basic features in that tier. This is just a way to make money without regard for their customers, during a pandemic! There are also some basic features missing like live phone support etc. Simply put, SP is NOT WORTH $99/month and there will be a large exodus of customers due to this change. Stay away.

### "Not Bad, but I miss Epic"

September 8, 2019

5.0

So far, I've only created templates, added clients, and input insurance information. I'm moving on to billing next week so I'll know more then. I would add that I really appreciated the half-hour in-person tutorial (via zoom) I received near the end of my trial period.

Pros

There are many things I like about this EMR: the format is pleasing and (mostly) intuitive, the side bars are handy, and the trove of FAQ's and videos is astounding and often very helpful.

Cons

The templates limit the user to certain forms and give fairly small boxes for narrative responses. I used to use EPIC and I miss being able to populate an open page with my template and add/adjust it as desired, like a Word document. I also wish the calendar allowed for more detail--like, a different color for intakes vs follow-up appointments would be really nice. Or, there could be a code before the client's name in the calendar slot--like, 'I - Jane Doe' and 'F - John Doe'. I also wish that the end time of the appts was more clear. I like to schedule a 15 min break between my appts and the "Weekly" view is definitely better than the "monthly" view for this, but still not as clear as I would like.

### "Excellent Transition"

June 27, 2022

5.0

Luminello is a unique solution for psychiatric providers who always considered joining the private practice but were hesitant to work solo and spend too much non-billable time.

Pros

When I transitioned from academic-based hospital practice to private practice, one of the most important aspects for me was finding an EHR system that could integrate the functionalities of intake, scheduling, and billing. Luminello appeared as the ultimate solution at a very competitive price. The system is simple and intuitive. Their technical support was impressive. We exchanged several e-mails during this process, and I was amazed by their near-immediate response. The onboarding session was extremely valuable.

Cons

Because it is a 100% cloud-based system, I may have noticed occasionally slowed functions during busy times.

### "Luminello for a 20 hour per week private practice"

February 23, 2022

5.0

I’m very happy with this software. This EMR has a portal, templates, questionnaires, scales, and integration with scheduling and billing, which together makes documentation more efficient, secure, HIPAA compliant and up to date with current regulations like the no surprises act. Keeping up with ongoing regulatory changes was challenging to do in a part-time practice and this was a major driver of my decision to use Luminello.

Pros

The feature I like most about this software is the ease with which I can post questionnaires for patients and then directly transfer that information into a note. Customizing a Luminello template or creating my own is straightforward, if a little time consuming, but these templates allow for an amazing degree of automation without the need for programming. They make documentation quick, painless and useful.

Cons

I appreciate that there are many paths to the same functions but they could be a little more intuitive.

### "Initial Pros and Cons"

August 8, 2018

3.0

I am just getting started...I have high hopes yet!

Pros

\*\*Note: I am very new to Simple Practice and I'm only three weeks in. What I like most about this is the idea that everything will be located all in one place. No paper files to lug around, reduced costs on printing paper and ink for intakes and informed consents, and I'm excited about having automatic appointment reminders for clients. I like that I can send clients the documents ahead of time so they don't have to spend 20-25 minutes when they first arrive filing out paperwork. We can get started right away. And I appreciate that I can customize the way I contact the clients as their individual preference (some want texts, some want voice messages).

Cons

Although I am fairly tech savvy (I'm the top end of the millennials), I have not found simple practice as user friendly as I had hoped. I have used many support options so far and find the in-person ones most helpful. While trying to create my current intake form into one of the forms and documents...I found it rather nightmare-ish. It was tedious and I felt like it took 10 times longer than it needed to. I was SO glad my 30 minute phone consult had given me the heads up to use the pre-existing template and just change every question so I didn't have to totally re-invent the wheel. I am SO glad the template already existed! But I still felt like I was using a chisel on stone. It felt tedious and painful. I'm glad that's over! Sometimes I get stuck on the calendar page and haven't yet found the button to default to the normal HOME setting so I have the sidebar. These are small things that I hardly ever have a hard time wasting time on..and yet I found myself not being able to get back there today multiple times. Not as user friendly as I hoped.

### "Great Overall, but Their Settings Menu Needs Work"

December 12, 2019

4.0

My experience has been good overall. I think they make a lot of aspects of treatment easy which is good given their name. I don't like very many EHR's in the world because all they care about is practice management and are pretty terrible for high-volume clinical tasks - which makes them indirectly quite expensive in terms of labor to use. I think is a good balance between the two - though their reporting and practice management is still pretty weak.

Pros

I really like their balance between practice management and clinical documentation for a small practice, as well as the degree of customization for forms and documents. Their portal is pretty easy for clients to use (I rarely get people having trouble with it). I like their booking widget for my website. The telehealth video/audio quality is very good. Their help database is one of the better ones I've seen, lots of great articles and clear instructions that seems to be kept up to date.

Cons

Their settings menu is not intuitive and you have to hunt around to find the setting you are looking for. CEU offerings are not on topics of interest to me. Their clearinghouse doesn't have one of the carriers I need. Reporting and practice management tools are weak. Their paid therapist collaboration group where potentially sensitive information is discussed is hosted by Facebook (perhaps the most untrustworthy and unethical software company on the planet) AND they charge us to be invited to participate on a platform that doesn't cost any money to host other than maybe some moderating? That doesn't align well with the brand reputation and quality of SimplePractice and isn't really a good value for the money (in my opinion).

### "Using Luminello for prescription writing"

October 16, 2021

5.0

It is very helpful to have electronic prescription capabilities especially because California is phasing out paper prescriptions in 2022. The program is quite reliable. It has stopped functioning twice, due to problems with Dr. First (the prescribing part of the program, run by a separate company), but in each case the problem was fixed in one hour and they responded rapidly to my panicked emails.

Pros

It can memorize the prescriptions you write which makes the process quicker.

Cons

It gives frequent unnecessary reminders. Example: when prescribing 3 separate 1 month prescriptions for a stable ADHD patient, as you write month 2, a pop-up screen will inform you that you already have a prescription for this medication. Or it will tell you you are using 2 meds of the same class (SSRI + Wellbutrin, for example). Or 2 antipsychotics

### "I wish I started using SimplePractice at the very beginning...Great product..."

March 29, 2018

5.0

Lower cost than what I was doing before with a separate insurance billing product, online scheduler, and credit card processing feature. Eventually, this will help me go almost completely paperless.

Pros

Integrated credit card processing, Client portal for HIPPA compliant communication, safe payments, secure messaging, and online scheduling. I love that you can scan business documents for storage, and that I now have an EHR that integrates with payments, scheduling, insurance, and note taking. Great feature that you can send intakes securely for clients to complete before they come to the office.

Cons

I wish it integrated better with Quickbooks. I wish the insurance features were faster (drop down box is very slow for choosing insurance providers) and the list is not as complete as I hoped I'd prefer an online landing page for online scheduling so clients could schedule without going through the client portal if they chose to do so Online schedule should have a feature for infinite recurring appointments just for ease sake. Key con to me so far: They need phone support. Especially upon set up, it would just be nice to make a quick call and get unstuck rather than having to set up a video 1:1 or read through their support materials. For the price of the product, though, I see why this might be a challenge to provide.

### "Horrible company"

April 26, 2022

1.0

Horrible experience. While I liked it at first, their frequent price increases make it so difficult to trust them.

Pros

It is a user friendly platform. That's about it.

Cons

The price structure is terrible. It's way too expensive and the features are remarkably limited in comparison to other platforms out there. Customer service is less than ideal and I've never found them to be helpful.

Reason for choosing SimplePractice

I chose it over others because I liked the platform appearance better, but now that I use another platform, I like it much better than and can't believe I ever was okay with such a limited platform.

### "Ridiculous Price Increase, Horrible Customer Service"

February 4, 2022

5.0

I am so sad because I really appreciate this platform, but not enough to pay an extra $30 just to get my calendar to sync. Every time I have had an issue there has been slow, unhelpful, and irritable response from what appears to be a very shoestring support staff. I don't feel like this company listens to its customers. All of the marketing assumes everyone is new to the game, but as a seasoned practitioner I know exactly what I want and need, and I am not getting it from Simple Practice. It's patronizing AND price gouging. I am not looking forward to switching platforms (I actually like this software a lot!), but I am totally done with this shady company.

Pros

I have used this software for years and have loved how intuitive it is and the ease of going paperless

Cons

The price increases and the horrible customer service are driving me away. I am looking elsewhere even though I don't want to because basic features are now going to cost me twice what I was paying before.

### "More options than my previous EMR."

January 29, 2019

4.0

I am saving time and money with Simple Practice so far from my previous EMR system, which of course is huge with you run your own practice - big or small. I also like their referral program, and step-by-step instruction on how to get started with Simple Practice.

Pros

I love the ability to create my own online forms for clients to fill out and sign so I'm not wasting paper and saving time. I also love that there is an app associated with the account for me to easily and securely message clients, create appointments, and look up information in their accounts. I also love that I can bill insurance, run credit cards and do pretty much everything I need to from this app/program.

Cons

When entering diagnoses, it does not let you create rule outs, or add specifiers to diagnoses. I'm hoping this is something that will change soon. Additionally, I understand an upgrade is being added so that parents who are divorced/separated can have their own access to the client (minor's) account without having to create a duplicate of the client or making more work for the therapist. Other minor things would be nice, such as being able to adding multiple session notes to one session without having to scan and upload it in; as well as customizing no-show fees, and being able to add pictures through the app that can be attached to individual sessions.

### "Dissatisfied with Customer Service"

September 19, 2023

See above

Pros

The treatment plans were helpful. The organization of clients was helpful.

Cons

I got locked out of my account. The service worker refused to connect me to his supervisor. The service worker refused to provide me a phone number so that I could more fully express the situation. The service worker refused to allow me a brief window of time to retrieve my records so that I could close my account. The service worker was condescending, controlling and unwilling to assist me. My therapy notes were held hostage until I could contact the previous therapist who was the owner of the account. The previous therapist left my agency over a year ago. The previous therapist and I were under the assumption that the ownership was transferred to me. The service worker said that an email was sent to us both; neither of us got the email. I love it, especially with all of their new improvements.

Pros

They have a very easy to use format. They have all of the features needed for an individual private practice. And they have been enhancing their features to complement smaller group practices.

Cons

Customer service is in another part of the country, so the time zone is off by a few hours. Also, there is no human contact to consult with. Everything must be done electronically until it is escalated to a email chat then virtual call.

### "Just the EHR I've been looking for"

January 11, 2019

5.0

Pros

I've put off using an EHR far too long, fearing that it would be too difficult to change the way I had already been doing things for over ten years in my practice. I gave the free trial a go, and was pleasantly surprised by how intuitive it was to use. I am excited to now have the ease of sending paperwork to clients electronically, as well as the benefit on the environment from all of the trees I am saving by doing so. I also needed to find a HIPPA compliant teletherapy option and found Simple Practice's portal very easy to use, as have my clients.

Cons

I work with many persons who are gender questioning, transgender, and nonbinary. There is a lot of language in the template paperwork that I needed to change so as to help them feel seen and included. I think in one part of the form, which cannot be changed, are gender options that are so limiting that I made specific mention of it in my greetings message to the client, so they know that this is not an oversight on my part but is on the part of the creators of the software. I've had colleagues mention that they have been trying for years to get Simple Practice to change this and sadly we have yet to see this inclusive step being taken.

### "Simple Practice Review"

January 31, 2022

4.0

My experience has been positive. I haven't ever had major issues or needed to contact technical support which awesome! It's a popular platform and I've been able to quickly figure out any issues that I've had using help or a google search.

Pros

I love being able to create my own professional looking and personalized forms. I like being able to securely contact clients. My clients appreciate reminders and I'm glad I don't have to send them. I like the revenue graphs and ability to view when payments are being sent to my bank. I've used many electronic health records and this is one of the more intuitive systems that I've used.

Cons

I wish that there was a way to automate receipts for clients who want them. I wish that my end of year tax summary used client initials rather than names. Clients have complained that they can't get back into the client portal unless I send them a new invite. I wish the demographic information was separate from the insurance information. I wish the newest credit card inputted was the one listed first.

Reason for choosing SimplePractice

I did a free trial of Therapy Notes and Simple Practice was easier to use.

### "Great EHR after set-up and consistently EXCEPTIONAL customer support "

October 14, 2018

5.0

I found somewhat frustrating in the beginning as I familiarized myself with their software and set up connections with insurance payers. I so desperately wanted SimplePractice to have a customer support phone number I could call at my convenience to answer a variety of questions. However, I have gotten use to their support system via email and love that I have been able to work with the same person with most of my questions. I eventually found value in the email support system as the conversations were tracked and included so I did not have to re-explain the issues. Overall, I'd say that SimplePractice has worked very well for me after the set-up process and I find their customer support department to be very professional and courteous and extremely patient.

Pros

I like the patient portal that allowed me to easily send patients paperwork to complete before their initial sessions, saving me time and money. I also find great value in the patient appointment reminders to cut down on no shows. The EHR is great for customizing my practice from how appointments can be scheduled to designing forms and progress note templates. The program also keeps track of sessions that needs to be billed and which claims were paid. Great features!

Cons

The EHR was a bit difficult to navigate in the beginning. It was hard to remember which links led to which features. I would have preferred major links/buttons to be icons rather than words. Also, being able to electronically submit secondary insurance claims would be a feature that would make even simpler. It would also be great if the patient portal sign-in page could be personalized, as I would like to include a welcome message and list which insurances I accept.

### "SimplePractice Is Simple To Use"

September 21, 2021

5.0

Using as an SLP has been fantastic. It’s a one-stop shop for documentation, appointment scheduling, EMR, and billing.

Pros

I love that this software provides a professional touch to my services (online payments, patient portals). It helps me streamline all of my documentation, appointment scheduling, and payments into one easy site!

Cons

When I was first starting it was a little overwhelming figuring out how to customize forms, but once I figured it out (with the help of ’s video tutorials) it is easy to complete!
