Pros

That is will lessen my time/energy needed for client scheduling (all of those back and forth emails with clients); will lessen the potential for me to make a scheduling error, or for clients to forget appointments; Clients will like the option to self-schedule. I'm also hoping that the online billing will be easy/convenient.

Cons

That you can't have the person responsible for bills be separate from the client (i.e. college students for whom parents may pay my invoices); that I signed up for Simple Practice to decrease my engagement with email/devices and I'm getting flooded with emails from SimplePractice (albeit, some very useful! but some are just junk marketing); can only have one ROI (clients can't fill out an ROI for MD and Psychiatrist etc...it's only built for one individual); that I will still need to use QuickBooks (it's clunky to have to use two programs).

### "My First Paperless Office - Success!"

I have not gone "paperless office" as a private practice psychotherapist... until a month ago when I found out about Simple Practice. I was part of a business school program for therapists and someone recommended it. When I found out that the company had been started by the same founder who created TrackYourHours.com, I knew I wanted to check it out! I was a big fan of TrackYourHours during my years of gathering and tracking those 3,000+ intern hours! The pro's: The fact that I can email a new client my office policies and informed consent and Notice of Privacy, etc. docs and have them sign them electronically and also fill in an intake form and send it back to me via Simple Practice is such a time saving tool. I track my client and "other" appointments, do all my progress notes, track my client's information and their emergency contacts - all of the kinds of things I track always but just on my hard drive and locked paper files - it's easier, more centralized, more secure and looks neater. Good support when I have needed it. Good training tutorials. It appears that creative improvements and add-on's are coming regularly. Wishes: would like a faster way to get through to your great support guys, e.g. instant chat and/or direct phone support line. Capability to edit and customize intake questionnaire form which I think you have in the works. Ability to print out monthly calendar which you might already be able to do but didn't see a print button. Overall impression: the guys at Simple Practice seem to understand what we therapists need in a paperless office program and are open to and even soliciting feedback for ways they can make it even better. The free first 30 days is a great way to try it out. I did and I just signed up for a year. :)

Pros

When it comes to usability and actual intuitiveness, SimplePractice stands up to its name. Someone without experience with patient management systems (PMSs) should have no trouble onboarding and setting up SimplePractice. SimplePractice's extensive feature set and practical add-ons, great customer service and user forums, and a mobile app for customers and practitioners are just a few of its advantages. SimplePractice is recognised as the finest EHR for both practises that bill insurance and new mental health practises.

Cons

Pros

The web interface is user-friendly and well organized. The mobile app supports almost all the functionality you can access from a desktop. The monthly price and nickel-and-dime price for add-on services is competitive. The knowledge base is comprehensive and they have many videos that explain each section of the product.

Cons

The product does not account for partial payments. For example, if a provider collects $25, but should have collected $45, you can post the payment to the client's file, but when you create an invoice, it will still show that the client owes 100% of the amount, including the amount you will adjust. Their work around is to put a note on the bottom of the invoice stating the client made a such and such payment on such and such date (or create an invoice outside the product, which defeats the purpose of a all-inclusive solution). They have an expansive knowledge base, but if you need phone support, you have to schedule a call. The reports are very limited.

Overall a great program that covers all the bases, and whose potential could someday rule the market.

Pros

Aside from the fact that it’s UX is sleek and current, what I like most is the overall functionality of the program, and how it far succeeds most of the electronic health record systems out there. Although far from perfect, this is probably the closest we get to it though.

Cons

The client portal leaves much to be desired, especially if you’re representing a practice with high end clientele. If the software were able to allow for customization outside of color scheme, then we could finely tune even the smallest of details.

### "Simply the Best"

Pros

I love the integrated features - sending new clients intake paperwork, billing, appointment reminders, scheduling, claims submissions, all of this for what you pay is incredible. I used Simple Practice my first time around in private practice, which I was in for 5 years, and am currently restarting a practice. I recall the customer service and the openness to requests and new features was one of my favorite parts of Simple Practice.

Cons

I honestly cannot think of anything I don't like about Simple Practice.

Pros

As a new private practice, it was crucial to have booking, billing, insurance, and charting all in one easy-to-use software! I enjoy how this program offers all the features that you need for a private practice at an affordable rate!

Cons

So far, there has been a learning curve to learn how to utilize all the different available forms and emails. However, SimplePractice has helpful videos on each page so that you never feel your questions go unanswered!

### "Love being able to dictate notes on phone, but needs some functionality tweaks"

Pros

I love being able to pull up a client's previous notes on my phone from last week right before session so I can check back in about what was discussed last week.

Cons

\- it needs functionality to easily enter group notes (e.g. not have to set up 5-8 individual appointments for clients that clutter up my calendar and then have to enter the group note separately for each one. I'd like one note about the group content, and then individualized sections for each member's response). - I wish there was a way to turn off reminders for things that I don't use/need/care about (like MSE). - I wish that more parts of a client's record were available on the phone (like diagnosis and treatment plan, not just the last week's notes, and not only from the calendar, I want to be able to pull up the full client record from their name without having to go to their next calendar appointment.

### "Getting up to speed but liking Simple Practice"

My overall experience so far is positive and I have chosen to pay for a full year initially, feeling pretty sure that this will be great for me once I'm acclimated. I have been impressed with the customer support and the professionalism of the site for myself and for my clients.

Pros

I love how I can send secure messages to clients, that my notes will be kept in one place, how easy S.P. makes it to send initial intake documentation to new clients, and that I have an easy way to offer clients the credit card payment option. I also loved my one 30 minute face to face video chat with one of S.P.'s customer support people. He was positive and encouraging and very good at helping me orient to the program. I am hopeful that once everything is set up, this will actually be a time saver and a way to be more organized.

Cons

It is taking me quite a bit of time to get used to and navigate around this system, as well as to set up my documents. I have probably invested at least 10 hours so far and am still in the process of setting things up. And although the customer support is dedicated and knowledgeable, it is difficult for me to have to wait until later in the day for someone to respond to my written request for help when I have a question.

I have a secure safe program that is HIPPA compliant that I can truly trust to access all my clients/consumer needs, as well as my own professional needs. It will cut down my time to one main operation instead of implementing 20 different programs to do the same overall task.

Pros

After reviewing several different EMR programs, SimplePractice, was the one I found most cost effective with the most capabilities!

Cons

The added expense to add another employee to access my full records on Simple Practice for billing.

I have been using this program for over a year and am still confused about the accounting. It is difficult to understand and track money. I want a simple ledger which tells me what service charge, paid by client paid by insurance balance, and I have several different windows I have to keep going back and forth between instead. They recently started invoicing everything, which limits flexibility in correcting errors. I have had trouble posting insurance payments, as they do not "stick" when I save them and my attempts to get help on this have not been productive. I thought it was just me doing something wrong until I hired an office manager who watched me input insurance payments, tried it herself, and she couldn't make it work, either. I think there is something wrong with my program and I cannot get Simple Practice to call me and walk me thru fixing it. Other than dealing with insurance I have really liked this program and regret giving it up, but I am looking at other practice programs. I'm a pretty good psychotherpaist but I reallty have math trouble, and need clearer accounting.

Simple practice tracks my payments and charts my progress and reports which is really helpful. Again, they’ve really thought of everything.

Pros

I really was happy that simple offered a free trial for a couple of reasons. It obviously allowed me to get acquainted with it even before booking a client but also if you’re starting from scratch like me, it’s extremely user friendly and loaded with customer service options. The developers really thought of everything when designing. Love that they offer education as well. Can’t say enough good things about it. Very happy I went with simple practice to start my business.

Cons

So far, it’s hard to pinpoint something that I do not like.

Pros

My favorite tool that SimplePractice provides is that I can take care of all upfront intake paperwork electronically before I ever meet the client. Additionally, it gives me the opportunity to review the intake paperwork and provide a better ability to prepare for intake sessions. I also love the templates it offers as well as the ability to customize any template to meet my style and needs. The customer service and support is outstanding, and they offer very helpful video tutorials to make learning how to operate SP manageable for someone like me who struggles with learning new electronic systems. SimplePractice gave me the tools, ease and confidence I needed to begin my practice far sooner than I thought was possible.

Cons

It has taken a learning curve to get the hang of how to use it as efficiently as possible. However, the customer support and video tutorials have been very helpful.

Pros

It’s easy to set up appts and manage electronic data.

Cons

The billing system is very problematic. Overdue balances and credits don’t carry over; you have to enter them manually, and sometimes it’s impossible to register a credit. Because of this, the balance due listed is inaccurate— unless everybody in your practice pays the exact amount due. All the time. (ha!) i wouldn’t mind this if there were a way to correct it manually, but i haven’t been able to figure it out. Major PITA.

The only problem with insurance overview is that it does not seem to pull the mental health benefits specifically (which is the type of practice we are, so that seems important). I still can check on benefits through insurance portals, but it would be nice if all the information was pulled for me automatically.

Pros

I love the auto-invoice and auto-pay features, as it cuts out on the amount of work I need to do for myself and my employees. SP is sleek looking and clean, which is very much appreciated. The billing/insurance portion is amazing in comparison to other software I've tried, which does not seem to be integrated with any portals at all. SP makes it easy to see a general overview of someone's insurance.

Cons

I don't like that everyone's schedules are the same color...I'd like to assign each staff member in my practice a different color for ease of scheduling/viewing what is going on in the day.

I don't take insurance yet, but I am excited to start utilizing the billing features.

Pros

This software is truly 'simple" and easy to use! I used another EHR at the group practice I was in and I knew there had to be an easier way to complete notes. I especially love that I can securely contact my clients AND send them homework/ handouts for them to print out at home. I have uploaded ALL of my worksheets into Simple Practice and after each clients session, I send them their assignments. I also love that the client has the power to schedule their own appointments and can complete all of their paperwork online.

Cons

I wish the software was more affordable.

I have been trying to go paperless, so SimplePractice can help with that. I like that I can edit the templates to my liking. If I could start over, I'm not sure I would be using SimplePractice. I'm going to give them a shot for a few more months to see if they make adjustments.

Pros

The price is right. I also like that there is a client portal that I can send documents and billing that can accessed easily by clients.

Cons

It is not very intuitive and some parts of the help sections are outdated, as I learned after contacting customer support. I've used a competitor's software in the past and it was a much more intuitive interface. It took me a good part of an hour to figure out how to share documents, as the button was very small and set to the side. Also, needing to use a third party for billing (Stripe) is an extra step of setting up yet another account. Why isn't this functionality just built into SimplePractice?

The very first clients I had actually commented on how cool and easy it was for them to book an appointment that they actually said they wish other businesses they have would be so easy and convenient.

Pros

The most important thing for me has been the support and encouragement from staff at SimplePractice combined with the tutorial videos and FAQs. For someone like myself who is just getting into private practice, worrying about all of the details has been the biggest stressor- but SimplePractice is user friendly with a great layout, and offers tons of ways to get help. I am SO relieved there is an entire insurance team ready to help when I need it. Additionally, I LOVE that this EHR has the payment mechanism built in so I don't have to worry about that component taking away from my clinical work AND I ensure I'm getting paid still.

Cons

I honestly cannot say there is anything yet that I have found that I don't like.

### "Simple Practice Review- Making Private Practice, well, Simple"

I have loved my brief time with SimplePractice. Between the built in forms, the efficient streamlined billing, and the option to send forms to clients before the first session, it has made starting a private practice so much easier than I thought it would be.

Pros

It's easy to use, provided tutorials answer most questions, it covers all of the basics that I need to efficiently run my private practice, and makes billing easy and payment reliable. Also, it offers different package options so that I can choose the package that fits my small practice, instead of paying for a bunch of features I won't use. I also loved the built in forms and paperwork, which makes getting started in private practice a lot easier.

Cons

Sometimes when I'm typing in a field, suddenly I'm kicked out of the box I'm writing in and I have to click back to the line where I was typing to keep writing. It's a little annoying. That's really all.

I use Simple Practice already for its main features but now given the situation with the pandemic have expanded to use it for telehealth and think it is great - secure, seamless, allows for multiple platforms, it is great!

Pros

I have just started really using the telehealth features and the security and seamless quality of it make for much less anxiety and worry as I offer this to my clients.

Cons

I do not have many complaints and think that the people behind the program are responsive to feedback.

I feel less stressed because I know all of my files are up to date and organized. Before, I was doing billing, progress notes, and scheduling in three different places. I always felt like I was forgetting something. Now I know everything is always in order.

Pros

I love that everything is in one place. Text reminders and being able to take debit cards are the two aspects that have already made me more money. The billing system is so easy to navigate. I love the "chart note" feature that is great for documenting phone calls and consults. I'm looking forward to using the telehealth feature as well.

Cons

I don't like the layout of the calendar in the mobile app. Visually, I like to look at my week in a format similar to the calendar on the website. I could not get the calendar exactly like I wanted it there, either, (I can't see the whole day without scrolling) so I just use Google Calendar and sync the two, which was easy. A small price to pay for the other great features. I love that only initials show up in my Google Calendar for privacy.
