We have been using GiveSmart for over 10 years. We like having the historical data for all of our events in one place with one software. It is easy to create an event and add auction items. The report functions are intuitive and helpful.

Pros

GiveSmart is very intuitive to use and learn. The customer service support is always willing to help and is very responsive if I ever have questions. Our revenue has increased each year we have had this software.

Cons

The price for the same service seems to go up considerably each year, and we consistently get less in return. GiveSmart used to send staff to events, and that has not happened in many years (since the pandemic). We wish GiveSmart integrated better with our CRM, Etapestry.

Excellent! We only use the software for our online auction and it has been a tremendous asset. We have a lot of repeat donors, so we can keep their same spot in the auction list and just change out the new image and description. One of the easiest parts is the way the system closes out at the end of the auction and provides us with separate sheets for each bidder listing all the items they "won" and also automatically processing their card payments if they have one on file. We did all of this by hand before using GiveSmart and it is more than worth the price for the reasons above and the records it maintains on past auctions.

Pros

GiveSmart Events is very easy to use and change things around as needed. It seems fairly simple from the standpoint of event attendee, as well.

Pros

We can do everything in one place for events. I like how I can see attendee details and know what they purchased. I like that we can make changes to table seating easily.

Cons

I don't like how we can't better distinguish between a company buying tickets from a person. If Jane Doe is the main contact for Company A, her name shows up instead of the company. This gets tricky when that contact isn't planning on attending the event. The invoicing also just shows Jane Doe's name and not Company A, which does not work for most businesses.

GiveSmart is a good CRM, and I believe it would have been a good product for online fundraising if we had been willing to upgrade to additional features, such as processing monthly donations. The real challenge came with my age and status as a part-time worker focused on foundation grant writing.

Pros

I liked GiveSmart CRM for the ease of entering and tracking gifts, providing gift receipt letters to donors, and creating lists to contact donors.

Cons

My challenge with GiveSmart was my own inability to use it effectively in soliciting online donations. This was based on challenges within our organization and my lack of experience with online fundraising.

Best software we've used for our fundraising events. Year after year we're breaking records and our main event is more professional than ever.

Pros

Everything is slick and intuitive. What used to take a team of people and a lot of effort is now a one man job and frees up the rest of the team for more valuable relationship building. We're extremely happy with GiveSmart.

Cons

The maliability of certain design elements could be a bit less stringent, allowing for more freedom of customization.

The overall experience has been overwhelmingly negative. We've been with them for almost two years and I'm happy the contract will finally end in September.

Pros

GiveSmart Fundraise works fine for basic campaign forms. That portion of the platform, though overpriced for what it offers, is easy to set up.

Cons

GiveSmart Events is a hot mess. The system constantly has "glitches". We weren't able to sell tickets to our gala for 10 days. The support team kept insisting it was a user-based error. Reader, it was not. And the seating management often comes with an error that doesn't allow that feature to work for hours at a time. That was explained as a "temporary glitch". They take no accountability for their poor product. Their reporting is also not very intuitive.

Overall, I have had a very positive experience with GiveSmart, particularly in a multi-school environment. The platform's flexibility allows each school to manage its own campaigns while ensuring a consistent system across the organization, which is a significant advantage. It is a powerful tool that supports a wide range of fundraising efforts, from smaller programs to large-scale galas. Although there are some considerations regarding cost and complexity, the ability to scale and adapt across multiple teams makes it a valuable resource for event-based fundraising.

Pros

GiveSmart is a strong all-in-one platform for fundraising events, especially auctions, galas, and other large-scale events. One of its biggest strengths is the flexibility it offers, particularly for our school system. The ability to assign “campaign admins” to each school allows individual teams to run their own programs, auctions, and events independently while still operating within one centralized platform. The mobile bidding and overall guest experience are excellent and easy to use, which helps drive family engagement and revenue. From the admin side, having ticketing, payments, donor data, and communications all in one place makes my job so much easier!

Cons

Cost is the biggest factor. While the platform is user-friendly for participants, the backend can feel a bit complex at times, particularly when setting up more customized campaigns, auctions and events. There can also be a learning curve for new users, especially at the individual school level.

Our PTO has had an incredibly frustrating experience with GiveSmart, and I want to share our story so other nonprofits can make an informed decision. We spent several thousand dollars launching our fundraising platform and expected a smooth integration with our existing website. Instead, the interface was clunky, difficult to work with, and far from user-friendly. Even worse, when we reached out for help, support was minimal to nonexistent. For a platform marketed to nonprofits—many of which rely on volunteers—that alone was discouraging. Things only got worse. GiveSmart encountered an issue with our bank account, and rather than helping us resolve it quickly, our funds were held for months. As a PTO raising money for important school needs, this delay put us in a really difficult position. Communication was slow, unclear, and unhelpful throughout the entire process. Most recently, as we prepared for Giving Tuesday, a board member attempted a test donation—only to find out that donations weren’t working at all. We submitted an IT ticket and were told they would “try,” and that our account manager was too busy and heading into a meeting, so we should just email general support. At a time when reliability is crucial, this was incredibly disappointing. At this point, we’ve had to create multiple workarounds just to function because GiveSmart still has not provided meaningful assistance. We honestly don’t know what we paid for, as we’ve been forced to solve problems on our own that their team should have handled from the start. Now, right before a major fundraising event, we’re suddenly being asked for additional information that was never requested during onboarding. Critical steps were missed by their team, and we’ve consistently had to chase them just to make the platform functional. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend GiveSmart to any nonprofit or organization looking to raise money. The platform has caused us stress, delays, and unnecessary obstacles at every stage. If you rely on your fundraising platform to be dependable—especially during major events—please look elsewhere.

Unfortunately, there was nothing we found positive about our experience; the platform and support consistently failed to meet even basic expectations.

Cons

GiveSmart has been unreliable, poorly supported, difficult to integrate, slow to resolve critical issues, and has forced us to create our own workarounds despite paying thousands for their platform.

Overall our experience was good. I'd like it to be great and hope we get there this year.

Pros

Every online platform has its pros and cons and things that work really great and things that need improvement. I would say that GiveSmart is among the best and it's working out any kinks that it still has. I would definitely recommend it to others and believe that most of our problems were user issues.

Cons

I think they could provide more training with the annual subscription. We had to purchase additional training in order to really utilize the tools.
