Overall, I have had a very positive experience with GiveSmart, particularly in a multi-school environment. The platform's flexibility allows each school to manage its own campaigns while ensuring a consistent system across the organization, which is a significant advantage. It is a powerful tool that supports a wide range of fundraising efforts, from smaller programs to large-scale galas. Although there are some considerations regarding cost and complexity, the ability to scale and adapt across multiple teams makes it a valuable resource for event-based fundraising.

Pros

GiveSmart is a strong all-in-one platform for fundraising events, especially auctions, galas, and other large-scale events. One of its biggest strengths is the flexibility it offers, particularly for our school system. The ability to assign “campaign admins” to each school allows individual teams to run their own programs, auctions, and events independently while still operating within one centralized platform. The mobile bidding and overall guest experience are excellent and easy to use, which helps drive family engagement and revenue. From the admin side, having ticketing, payments, donor data, and communications all in one place makes my job so much easier!

Cons

Cost is the biggest factor. While the platform is user-friendly for participants, the backend can feel a bit complex at times, particularly when setting up more customized campaigns, auctions and events. There can also be a learning curve for new users, especially at the individual school level.

Our PTO has had an incredibly frustrating experience with GiveSmart, and I want to share our story so other nonprofits can make an informed decision. We spent several thousand dollars launching our fundraising platform and expected a smooth integration with our existing website. Instead, the interface was clunky, difficult to work with, and far from user-friendly. Even worse, when we reached out for help, support was minimal to nonexistent. For a platform marketed to nonprofits—many of which rely on volunteers—that alone was discouraging. Things only got worse. GiveSmart encountered an issue with our bank account, and rather than helping us resolve it quickly, our funds were held for months. As a PTO raising money for important school needs, this delay put us in a really difficult position. Communication was slow, unclear, and unhelpful throughout the entire process. Most recently, as we prepared for Giving Tuesday, a board member attempted a test donation—only to find out that donations weren’t working at all. We submitted an IT ticket and were told they would “try,” and that our account manager was too busy and heading into a meeting, so we should just email general support. At a time when reliability is crucial, this was incredibly disappointing. At this point, we’ve had to create multiple workarounds just to function because GiveSmart still has not provided meaningful assistance. We honestly don’t know what we paid for, as we’ve been forced to solve problems on our own that their team should have handled from the start. Now, right before a major fundraising event, we’re suddenly being asked for additional information that was never requested during onboarding. Critical steps were missed by their team, and we’ve consistently had to chase them just to make the platform functional. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend GiveSmart to any nonprofit or organization looking to raise money. The platform has caused us stress, delays, and unnecessary obstacles at every stage. It has truly been a nightmare and has hindered—rather than supported—our fundraising efforts. If you rely on your fundraising platform to be dependable—especially during major events—please look elsewhere.

Pros

Unfortunately, there was nothing we found positive about our experience; the platform and support consistently failed to meet even basic expectations.

Cons

GiveSmart has been unreliable, poorly supported, difficult to integrate, slow to resolve critical issues, and has forced us to create our own workarounds despite paying thousands for their platform.

Overall our experience was good. I'd like it to be great and hope we get there this year.

Pros

Every online platform has its pros and cons and things that work really great and things that need improvement. I would say that GiveSmart is among the best and it's working out any kinks that it still has. I would definitely recommend it to others and believe that most of our problems were user issues.

Cons

I think they could provide more training with the annual subscription. We had to purchase additional training in order to really utilize the tools.

It’s ease of use! Both on our end and our guest’s experience was great

It is a bit expensive for the price. Unfortunately our non profit couldn’t continue to afford it but if you have the money it’s a great tool

Pros

Givesmart's platform looks great on the user end. it had all the functionalities I was use to and the price was better. Once I got used to the back end, I was able to set up my site easily

Cons

There is a strong learning curve (at least for me) and I felt it was not as user friendly as other platforms. Some things were not very intuitive and took a lot of trial and error to figure out. Learning the system was time consuming and many features are still not available.

Pros

Me fascina esta herramienta ya que me permite controlar la organización de todos los eventos que la empresa realice de hecho tiene una multitarea bastante completa y la experiencia de usuario si que vale la pena ya que esta bien optimizada y con un buen soporte técnico.

Cons

Los puntos negativos podría ser el precio pues ya que si es algo medio pero eso no quiere decir que no valga la pena de echo se recomienda.

This was one of the worst technology purchases I have made with an organization. I regret bringing my team into this and spending a lot of money for very limited use cases and poor customer support.

Pros

I liked the ability to manage event registration, seating, and event fundraising in one place. I liked that sponsors, vendors, volunteers, and attendees could all have their own registration page for the same event.

Cons

We did not use the Auction component and actually opted for pen and paper after realizing the Givesmart Auction functionality. It does not look appealing or feel easy-to-shop for an attendee who is immersing in the software during the event. There was almost NO customization available for fundraising for units of impact as opposed to dollar amounts. The user (me) had very little ability to redefine an event attendee's experience on the platform. I had to spend weeks if not months requesting very simple changes to the giving forms. My experience with customer support was poor. They would reach out to me a few weeks before my event to see if I was using all the software features available and push me to integrate them that late in the project. There seemed to be no consideration for the user and where they are in the planning process versus what sales objectives they needed to accomplish before my renewal period arrived.

GiveSmart provides a relatively easy to use auction and ticketing platform that looks good on desktop and mobile. Auction check out is plug n play!

Pros

The customer service is AMAZING--the chat support has walked me through a myriad of questions and helped me in real time set up campaigns and avoid mistakes.

Cons

The ticketing feature is not as user friendly as the auction feature and unfortunately information can't be transferred between the two.

I would never recommend working with GiveSmart. The customer service is awful and the company deceives their clients. We signed up on a year-to-year annual renewal and did for 3 years in a row. We chose to cancel our year-to-year deal this year and provided over 30 days notice of cancellation as per the terms of the original and annual agreement. GiveSmart asked us to renew 3 months early in 2021 and changed the annual agreement to a multi-year agreement without notification the terms had changed prior to renewal. They say we are locked in for two more years with this service. Our leadership is not happy with GiveSmart's business practices and the company should be ashamed for deceiving their clients into long-term agreements.

Pros

Importing items. Reporting is decent post-event.

Cons

Training could be a lot better. When asked if we could get help setting up an auction for the first time, the GiveSmart rep sent a video for us watch instead of personally helping us. The design templates are limited along with the graphics. It's not intuitive and their customer service is worthless.
