Pros I like the customer support aspect, they are so helpful and quick to respond. They will help the entire process of creating reports, setting up emails, and targeted appeals! Email functions are easy to use, although the formatting can be a limited. Cons Improvements can include a simplified template already set up and easy to access for commonly used reports for non-profits such as : "Who do I need to thank for a donation still" Or "Top donors of 202" and have those preloaded for easy access instead of having to create our own. Pros Easy to use; dashboard is excellent; algorithms work well; customer support is unrivaled. Cons The filters can be a bit tricky and some are not intuitive; however, customer support is excellent. The onboarding experience with Bloomerang was exceptionally professional and well managed. Pros Extremely reliable and, so far, bug free. Excellent customer support. Zapier integrations with other platforms like Thundertix (event ticketing), CourseStorm (class registration system), Wufoo (forms design and management), Google Suite, WooCommerce (shopping cart) etc. extend its functionality a great deal. Direct integration with Quickbooks Online is also a plus. While this doesn't pertain to the software specially, their online documentation and videos are generally excellent as are their "best practices" webinars. Cons The cons are mostly things that can't be done easily like batch updating of existing donation data (they can be imported easily, but not updated). The current Bloomerang App for iOS is limited by not permitting reports to be run. Bloomerang doesn't understand the concept of memberships and membership levels natively. The letter feature is nice as well as receipts, and overall how Bloomerang helps us to communicate with our constituents and track them. Pros I like the email templates, website integration, and constituent tracking. Cons It's difficult to use! I have to google "how to" do anything on it and the majority of youtube videos for bloomerang are massively outdated. Like how to write a nonprofit newsletter that doesn't suck... it was made in 2016 and a lot of features have changed. I can't follow most youtube videos to do what I need to do because features are different. They get me enough information to figure it out but if there were some sort of comprehensive training offered, I feel like I would get more out of the program. Oh and all the how to videos are stupidly LONG! I do not have time to take up a degree in how to Bloomerang! We are grassroots! We have 3 board members and zero paid staff! The user-friendly aspect, custom fields, email tool, online giving tools, report building, etc. were all features that were appealing to us and we continue to use and value all these features and more. Pros Bloomerang is very user-friendly. The reporting tool is great and can basically create anything we need. And if we can't quite get the report right, their support is great to help. We use their email tool for mass emails, create thank you letters, accept online donations, accept event registrations, etc. Great to have all of these features in the same place. Cons No major complaints. Just a few small things here or there, but there have been a number of great changes and additions in the time we have used Bloomerang, so I'm holding out hope for things to come! One thing I would like to see is a better way to handle memberships. We have both members and donors who support us. We have created custom fields to record member dates, etc, but would love to have expiration dates that automatically update (for example) instead of having to do it manually; or be able to easily sort a constituent's timeline to see when member dues were paid. I have a high degree of confidence that if there's a feature that is limited in its design, they will soon roll out an update or improvement that addresses the limitation. Its core features are very intuitive and visually appealing, which made it the top choice for my colleague who would be using it with me. And going with her preference proved smart - she very quickly trained herself on data entry with very little help from me. It is a great way to streamline and track communications with individual donors. I love how you can edit individual letters directly in the constituent's record. Cons We struggle a bit with households where we have relationships with multiple household members. Bloomerang's set up is also not ideal for tracking grants, in my experience. But since that is a secondary need for us, it hasn't been an issue. I recently gained access to the NCOA service which has not worked well for me. In our rural community, people use mailing addresses that are different from what this national service has on file. I've had to turn it off because I can't rely on it to 'update' correctly for people who haven't moved, but simply use the locally-recognized version of their mailing address. I’ve learned a great deal this way. It’s a hassle to switch CRMs and I wish they’d consider more upgrades to their functionality. Pros Reporting features are helpful for the team to check on our data entry methodology and share with the board. I like being able to schedule the reports and to write letters and emails that attach to timelines. BCC emails into the database is also helpful. Cons The organizational structure has changed and Bloomerang no longer has the level of customization we need to track our donors. If Bloomerang could be customized to the new structure to capture our second location’s funding streams, I’d be happy to stick with them. It makes my life easy, and I've actually had fun learning and discovering all it can do for me and my organization! Pros In a previous role, I used a much more complex database. I love how user-friendly Bloomerang is. I have used it for about six months now, and am very confident in its features and integrations, more so than the previous database I used for six years. I love the email feature, it's easy to create really eye-catching emails. Cons The only thing I could suggest would be that for the donation page, I would love to have an option for an in honor or in memory gift. I know this is a feature on gifts in Bloomerang, I wish you could add these fields onto the donation page. Reason for choosing Bloomerang Price and features. We integrated from a very outdated and very messy product. Bloomerang's team was very thorough in cleaning up our data and helping us along this entire process. Bloomerang's support is also excellent! Cons Occasionally, our team struggles with the reporting element in Bloomerang. For the most part, we are able to get everything we need from reports. However, there are times where the reporting feature is a bit complex and difficult to use. We are thankful that support is available to assist when issues occur. It has become very easy for us to track and communicate with our donors. We often reach out to Bloomerang with questions which are quickly answered. Bloomerang was already being used when I started volunteering with the foundation. It was very easy for me to learn this software product. The foundation has a part-time administrator and she has also found it easy to learn and use. As new volunteers come onboard, they find it easy to use Bloomerang learning tools and videos. Pros Our foundation has used Bloomerang for many years. And I have used many fundraising software programs in my 30+ years in nonprofit management. This is one of the most user friendly program I have worked with. It is easy to learn, flexible and provides us with all the information tracking and reporting that we need. This is best used for managing donors. Bloomerang offers great learning programs and new products. I particularly liked the added ability to list and see first time donors on the dashboard. Cons As a foundation we distribute grants. We would like to be able to track distribution of funds as well as receipt of funds. Currently, we just add the amount to the Organization's Note and have to keep an excel spreadsheet to total the amounts we have distributed. Bloomerang has all the power of any other industry standard solution, but adds heaps of user friendly and intuitive menus and navigation. Extremely powerful filters for donor segmentation, good built in mass email client, and great relationship management tools. Cons It can take some time to get used to the filtering controls on reports and emails, but I've found this to be true of every platform. Pros It's a full-featured program but they are constantly improving and bringing new functionality. Love the free webinars and training that is provided. It's easy to use at the base levels but has much deeper complexity if needed. Customer support is quick and timely. Reporting features allow us to customize and then automate reports to be created and delivered to us on our desired schedule. Cons The switch over from our previous processor was complicated but we accomplished it without any problems. It's a user-friendly CRM that works well for our database of 6,000. Pros Highly customizable. Always developing new features that improve capability and user experience. Tutorials and guides are extremely helpful, as are their webinars. Customer service is exceptional. Cons The new email email editor is definitely an improvement over the previous one, but there could be more flexibility and customization in terms of formatting (i.e. picture placement, button placement, ability to upload brand fonts and colors, etc.). There are other minor things that would make life easier on Bloomerang. For instance, the ability to filter out Mass Emails from other interactions (if someone has been on our email list for a long time, it's sometimes difficult to find in-person or other interactions among a years-long slew of mass emails!). In Reports, it would be great to be able to remove multiple columns at one time. As I said, these are small things that cause minor frustration for me--certainly not enough to outweigh all the great features that Bloomerang has! Review Source JE Joy E. December 14, 2020 5.0 We are realizing that we have very loyal donors - but they don't tend to upgrade much. We will work on that issue to optimize each donor's potential with stewardship. This type of intelligence was not possible before. Pros Our small but mighty shop, never had a donor database. Bloomerang made it easy to import our data into the software and we were off. Our Board had never seen analytics of donors and the reports that this software generates are easy to understand and to design. They also love the insights the software gives on donor's potential to give. Data input is intuitive. Tasks easy to set up and track. The price is perfect for us. I also love the tips generated throughout the year. S Cons There is only one thing I don't like...or maybe I haven't figured out how to do. :-) We don't use pre-printed letterhead. I would LOVE to use the letter generation feature, but can't upload our "digital letterhead" into the template. Pros It has a user-friendly interface with a lot of functionality. There is an ability to customize many of Bloomerang's features so that you can properly record and track donations and gifts to your organization. For example, we have customized the groups categories to include how many years each donor was involved in an annual event we host. These features not only enable us to keep track of donations, but to pull more detailed reports that we can then use for targeted marketing campaigns. Cons I have a few complaints about the software's features although they may be considered as "areas for improvement" since they stem from my experience with other softwares' features. The first is an autofill for city/state based on zip code. It would also be helpful is the reports had the option to be organized by time data. When exporting acknowledgements using Bloomerang's template, they automatically convert to PDF which does not allow users to edit letters individually (for this reason we export to Excel and mail merge individually). It'll make life easier with fundraising, donor management, keeping your accountant happy, etc. Pros I really liked how the last couple of years, Bloomerang refreshed their image, added new services, and continues to offer more (some CFRE qualified) fundraising ed all for free. Bloomerang beat out the competition with the ease of use and robust features. Cons The cost isn't too bad, and I think we got it discounted originally on techsoup. Their robust reporting tools allow us to refine data as precisely as we need in order to answer some of the most complex donor questions. And whenever there have been issues, their support staff have been quick to help. Pros The reporting features are first class, the support team is timely and knowledgeable, and feature upgrades are very consistent. Cons The pre-built pages for donors to make contributions are ugly and cannot be customized at all aside from adding donation and donor attributes. Most baffling, you can't even create a title for the page, so they look completely nondescript to a potential donor.
