Bloomerang support is helpful, they're webinars are informative. I feel like I learn something new from the source every day. They are also very willing to help out with whatever we need. Pros I love that this software integrates so well with other softwares. We use QGiv as our main payment processor, and it quickly updates in Bloomerang to show real time donations on donor's profiles. Cons I can't say that I love the rigidness of some of the features. Some of the features leave for ultimatums to be made, and for nonprofits looking to clean and improve their data, you have to make sacrifices sometimes. Development Coordinator Research Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Best System for your Buck" September 20, 2021 5.0 Pros The Bloomerang system is the most user friendly donor database I have seen in my 10+ years of working with donor databases and management systems. They are constantly improving and communicating with their customers. The only issues I have had have been user caused and Bloomerang was able to help me fix them very quickly. Cons There is no batch edit function for constituents and it makes cleaning up an import error extremely tedious. Reason for choosing Bloomerang The sales rep I spoke to was very patient as he showed us the system and highlighted Bloomerang's user friendliness. Our office has people with different levels of expertise and it was important that the system be easy to use. We were also promised that the system would grow and learn from it's users and they have continued to improve the system year after year. It is definitely an improvement over our old system (DonorPerfect) and I really enjoy using it. Pros The reporting abilities and interface is very easy to use even for beginners, very intuitive overall. The customer chat is also really helpful in figuring out the reporting so that makes it even easier. The only issue would be organizing existing reports as they really don't have a good way of doing that yet, but they are trying to improve it. The system itself is also easy to navigate and they are constantly trying to make it better. I also like that the email features are built in which makes it easier to report on results. I also like a lot of the free webinars. Cons While I like the system overall, it needs a bit more work on core functionality before they carried away on new features. Sometimes they make features that are very one-size-fits-all which often leaves us out. We know what's best for our org, so sometimes we have to opt out of something if they don't let us customize it enough to work for our donors. The user experience also felt very antiquated. As we were leaving they were trying to update their system, but it was mostly cosmetic so it didn't actually feel like much of a change. If you are looking for a data management software that doesn't break the bank and does things you need it to do, then Bloomerang is it. I have actually recommended Bloomerang to other colleges. Pros It does everything you need it too, for a fraction of what Gift Works cost. I keep all our donor information in the system, run monthly reports using that information, and everything in between. The new feature that we just started using is the "Automatic Acknowledgment Letter" function. We have our standard thank you letter that we inputted in the system, and it will come up when you enter in a donor gift with that donor's information already added to the sections you need it. Then you can choose to edit the letter to make it more personal for the donor. Then we print it right off and it is ready to go. Super simple, and saves us so much time! Cons At times, you may feel overwhelmed at all the things Bloomerang can do for your non-profit. When I first started working within Bloomerang, it seem a little complicated, but that is where their customer service steps in. If you have ANY question about the program, they give you a number that you can call any time and they will walk you though what you need step by step. I have called the number multiple times, and every time they were able to help me verbally and give me the written directions as well so I can have them if I ever have the problem again. It was a process getting our software uploaded and set up but that would be the case with any software. The support is great! They have tons of videos and guides to help you fundraise better and to better navigate the software. I like how easy it is to merge donor files if we find that there are duplicates. It will also alert you if there are duplicates, and can sometimes update addresses if your donors move. Pros What I like most about this software is that it is a one-stop shop for many of the tasks I have. We create and send letters through it, we do email blasts through bloomerang, and we have been able to collect more donor data through this software. It has really made a difference in our fundraising efforts. Cons I wish this software integrated with the event software that we use, Greater Giving. I also wish it had the ability to send texts to donors especially prior to an upcoming event. I also appreciate the Customer Service - every inquiry is responded to in a timely manner, and customer service representatives go above and beyond to help. Cons The initial sign-on period was a bit frustrating, as our representative did not seem that knowledgeable and did not give great advice. Pros My favorite feature of Blooomerang is their customer service. It's fast and so so helpful. This software is capable of a lot, but sometimes its hard to recognize of understand what you can make it do. Most things have obvious buttons or functions, but sometimes you can edit or twist those functions to best serve your organization, and it sometimes is not obvious how to do that. But if you contact customer support, they can solve any problem quickly, and if they can't, they go and figure it out and get back to you. It's amazing! I've never had such consistently positive interactions with tech support services, and I really appreciate that most about this software. Cons It's a very specific fault, but the fact that we can't add interactions or notes to a household so it shows up on all connected accounts. It has to be however many separate accounts that show up under one feed. An example of when this can be frustrating is when an entire household of four attends an event, and we want that to show up on their timeline, we have to go in and add that interaction to each individual account. It would save a lot of time if we could make one interaction in the household that shows up in each account- adding one interaction over creating four separate ones. Pros Great work from the implementation team. Cons We have been on Bloomerang for 2 weeks. So far, I have learned that:The Bloomerang interaction dropdown is all donor facing - there's no way to describe interactions with students except "other" - and the menu can't be changed. There's no ability to pre-load brand guidelines (logo, colors, font) that would pre-populate letters & emails For events, there's no way to show sponsors or honorees on an event page. It requires self-hosting - which costs us $$ for web design services. On Kindful events, I can't set up discount tickets - I was told to set up A SEPARATE EVENT for free tickets, which is ridiculous. I can't change the order of ticket types without deleting and re-entering them (this is minor).There's also no way to track non-fundraising event attendance, as for one of our workshops. They can't have a $0 ticket. Even in the Year-End Tax Receipts webinar yesterday, when the presenter pulled up the template for that very letter on Bloomerang, it wasn't set up as he recommended but had to be customized. It seems like nearly everything in this program requires a workaround, and that it really is entirely a donor management program and not set up for constituents. It has made our fundraising more personalized and easy to use. We went from Raiser's Edge from the 1990s to Bloomerang, and Bloomerang has been a breath of fresh air for reporting purposes, working with constituent data, and much more. Cons The only features I haven't liked on the software are the reflections of in-kind donations on a constituent's profile and the social media integration. I don't like that in-kind gifts are not reflected on the graph shown at the constituent's profile. We have lots of donors who give large in-kind gifts, and it makes it seem like their gifts aren't as important as cash donations. They deserve better recognition. The social media integration issues are what I mentioned earlier in this survey: our audience doesn't use Twitter hardly at all. We wish there would be an integration with Facebook and/or Instagram. It seems they have thought of everything a donor management business would need! From maintaining CRM information to following up on customer contacts/meetings and grant applications/processes. Bloomerang custom reporting and dashboard features keep our team focused and on track. Pros Our non-profit organization uses Bloomerang for maintaining donor records and tracking funding, running reports and sending mass communications. Bloomerang integrates well with QGiv - we used both for fundraising/ticket sales for events and end of year giving. All in all, this product provides most of the needs for our organization. I've never seen a company so in tune to what their user wants and needs. Pros EVERYTHING!! I cannot say enough good about this product. The customer service is out of this world and I can ask a question via chat and have an answer immediately. THey are constantly gathering ideas for upgrades from users and rolling them out. It's extremely easy to use, compared to our old Raiser's Edge Software. The price is less than any other product we researched and they are always following up to ensure our happiness. The software caters to prospect cultivation and offers tons of preloaded reports or that. The ease of creating a report will leave you speechless. Cons I miss my batch feature, but they are working on creating that and should release it in the future. Otherwise, I haven't had any issues. It has allowed us to become more independent in our finances and really get the information that we need, when we need it. This is invaluable to us, as we have a lot of volunteers that do things for us. We love our volunteers, but still have a business to run and when we have a need, we need to get it figured out quickly. Pros The software is easy to use, even for entry-level staff with little computer background. I have a few staff that use it to record donations, and it is very easy to show them how it works and what to do. It is also internet-based, so that we can access it from anywhere. It does everything that we need it to, though we are still learning some of the more challenging things like labels, year-end letters, e-mails, etc. The program keeps great records and we can print reports based on whether the information is a transaction or a person. We can also pull information from specific events, campaigns, etc to let us know how much we actually raised from that time period. That helps us budget for the next fiscal year and set goals for future campaigns. That is very helpful. Cons The software can get very complicated when you start getting into filters. I have yet to figure out how to to get the date the funds were given to us on their thank you letter, instead of the date that I am putting the funds in. Labels are very difficult and at times the reports don't include all the information that we are looking for, and I have to run multiple reports that we add together. I would also like to have a client database attached to it, so that we can run all our programs from one program. Once you learn the system it is easy to use and has been extremely helpful with our donor management efforts. The customer service has been outstanding and the help section and videos are great. A value add is that you are offered webinars consitanly about using the product but as well as fundraising and donor management in general. Pros Bloomerang offered us features that we needed and at a great price. The customer service has been exceptional and we are overall very pleased with this product. Cons I would like there to be cutomized reports built into the system to print directly. The option to export to Excel everytime is great, but sometimes I just want to print the simple reports quickly and directly. I don't know what they put them through to get the job, but their level of patience, ability to "meet you where you are" and not make you feel stupid about it, and help you solve your problems is truly out of this world. They never let me down. While I'm sorry for their long hours, I am also deeply appreciative of the rather late hours that customer support is available. I need the unlimited hours of technical assistance, and I am deeply appreciative that this is included! Pros Customer Support is incredible! Incorporates the fundamentals that you need in a development software package (year over year giving) Easy to learn Reliable Cons There are limits to what it can do, usually pertaining to the difference between "constituent reports" and "transaction reports." I think this is mostly inherent to the nature of the work, "not Bloomerang's fault." Letter formatting is less than stellar. If your letters are complex, include graphics, or go on for >1 page, there are limitations in ease of using Bloomerang. I live there most of my days. It's so customizable. How you track your constituents, whether they are a business or individual/household, is completely open-ended. It's scalable. The reporting feature is essential to any software. Bloomerang has nailed it. They even have scheduled reports as a function. MailChimp integration = a life saver. Bloomerang's email feature is tremendous, but I use MailChimp regularly. Send an email through MailChimp and track the interaction in Bloomerang, all automatically. So efficient! Cons I wish there was a way to sync Bloomerang with our ticketing software. That was my biggest question to the developers of ticketing and Bloomerang. More options for merchant solutions. It's limited to some of the most expensive in the market. I would be able to use even more Bloomerang features if they integrated with CardPointe. I also love the extras like generosity level and True Givers. These bonuses have helped me track down some great new donors. Pros I came for using another donor management software that was dull and reports were impossible to obtain. My first view of Bloomerang had me falling in love with it's interface. It doesn't just work right, it functions the way I think. And it's so pretty. I don't know about you but I need something that I stare into for hours to be easy on the eyes and Bloomerang's color scheme and playfulness makes it less of a chore. I love the little button up top that links me to direct chat help. Almost weekly, I have someone help me make a new report that I think might be helpful. It's easy enough to do the reports on my own but sometimes their help makes my reports a bit less chunky. They help me weed through the data I don't need to get to what really matters. The support team is awesome, friendly, knowledgeable and willing! The integrations are great, too. Cons Not much I don't like about it but if I had to pick out one thing: I wish there was Social Media integration with more than just Twitter - IG and FB would seal the deal. Pros I love how much data Bloomerang tracks and how easy it is to extract. The product is very intuitive and it makes thanking donors and tracking emails/interactions very easy. Several updates have been made and features added since our organization started using it, and I appreciate them listening to their customers to make the changes requested. Cons The list of people under "Tributes" cannot be searched or sorted by alpha order. Makes it difficult to determine whether someone has already been listed so not to make a duplicate entry. Cannot change a person's Tribute listing from "In Honor" to "In Memory", must create a new Tribute individual. Pros The technicians at Bloomerang were very helpful in making the transition from our Donor Perfect CRM software a seamless process. I like the recently updated dashboard that provides at a glance donor retention rate, campaign progress, donation tracking, and first time donor identification. Cons There is some difficulty in setting up forms and there are limited font choices available. Also, the software does not contain the ability to manage events.
