We used WordPress for more than 4 years for our company website, blogs and landing pages. It worked well for publishing content and there are a lot of themes and layout options. For basic updates it was easy enough, but anything beyond that often needed help from IT

Pros

WordPress gives you a lot of freedom with page layouts, templates and plugins. Adding blogs, news and simple content changes is fairly easy once everything is setup. There are also plenty of developers who know WordPress, so finding support is not difficult.

Cons

Page editing was not always as simple as it looks. Many small layout changes still needed a developer. An update could sometimes break something that was working fine before. The site can also get slower when too many plugins are installed, and you still have to think about hosting, backups, updates and general maintenance. Even some changes that looked simple ended up needing a developer, which adds cost and takes time.

My overall experience with WordPress has been very positive. I really like it for setting up websites that have a lot of content for clients. Even though Worpress needs work like keeping it updated, making sure it is safe and improvinge how fast it runs all of that is easy to handle if you know the right way to do it. In the end WordPress is still one of the choices, for creating a website that works well and can frow over time.

Pros

I really like Wordpress. The best thing about WordPress is its collection of plugins. These plugins make creating and customizing websites a breeze. They save a lot of time. WordPress is also great it lets you add your PHP, HTML and CSS when you are making or changing themes.. The REST API is a big plus. It makes Wordpress super flexible. You can use it as a CMS. This means it works well with modern frameworks, like React and Next.js.

Cons

I find that relying on many third-party pluginscan cause site bloat and hurt page load speed. Wordpress also needs security updates to lower the risk of vulnerabilities. Building custom Gutenberg blocks can be tougher, than using page builders.

Pros

Wordpress allows for users to create sites when they otherwise would've been unable to due to technical skill.

Cons

Wordpress is wildly successful, almost confusingly so. They are somehow succeeding while being labeled as a blog tool. Are blogs still a thing? I thought we left xanga in the past where it belonged.

Really positive, invest the time to learn how to use it and you will reap the rewards. Websites are an important part of your marketing arsenal so to have this level of functionality at a free price point is really advantageous.

Pros

It's free and open source so an absolute godsend for marketing operations on a budget (like many SMEs). That also offers a lot of flexibility, particularly with the raft of plugins available (stores for e-commerce, galleries etc). Also easy to edit once you get the hang of it, the learning curve isn't too steep. The design choices for making your own webpage relevant to your brand is powerful also. It also makes SEO really easy to master at implementation stage.

Cons

It does require constant maintenance (core system and plugin updates) but that may be the case for all CMS systems. It doesn't get in the way of day-to-day operations but you do have to consider the time in-house it will take to facilitate this (but if you want a functional website you will have to do this with anything you use).

Review source

Incentivized review: software users are invited to submit an honest review and offered a nominal incentive for their time and effort. All incentivized reviews are subject to our verification process prior to publication.

WordPress has been our go-to CMS for client projects and agency web builds. Its flexibility allows us to build everything from standard business sites to highly customized, high-performance web platforms.

Pros

Extremely versatile open-source CMS with an extensive ecosystem of plugins and themes. It allows rapid website development, custom theme integration, easy content updates, and strong SEO optimization capabilities out of the box.

Cons

Plugin compatibility issues and security vulnerabilities can arise if updates aren't properly managed. It requires regular maintenance, caching configuration, and performance tuning for high-traffic sites.

Reasons for choosing WordPress

It is just way more customizable and has far more plugins and connections available. It is THE CMS platform globally, so it's just the best.

Pros

What I like most about Wordpress is that you are able to get started quickly even as a beginner, which is very helpful.

Cons

What I like least about Wordpress is that their "free" version is incredibly limited. You almost always have to upgrade to pro to create a website.

Pros

Wordpress is great because of the flexibility that you can derive from the page editor. You can be as in-depth or simple as you want and the templates can be great time savers if you need to get something up quick.

Cons

It can be a little challenging to navigate plug-ins, I'm not a fan the marketplace where plug-ins are published and it could be more intuitive in how you search for highly rated additions.

A perfect fit for a small HR based company like ours as it is both affordable and functional. It provides us with the tools necessary not only to create and manage pages, but also to have enough control to customize them accordingly. There are a few things that can annoy us when it comes to updates and mobile compatibility but with plugins and pre-designed templates we're able to save time and concentrate on what we actually do.

Pros

Having the ability to edit and customise pages independently is a huge benefit to us as a small business without a large budget to employ others to do this for us and is an essential feature of WordPress. The templates are great, particularly for creating professional designs without a designer. The plugin library has also saved us a lot of time and money on custom development since we added some functionality such as contact forms for applicants.

Cons

Not all the themes are mobile-friendly, leading to additional testing of layouts. Sometimes, increases take the time of troubleshooting to get things working again. The learning curve can be steep to make any customization beyond the basic template unless you have some coding skills. Sometimes when something goes wrong, finding a solution isn't all that easy.
