Overall I thing wordpress is a great alternative to Shopify you can install woocommerce for a store and it is robust to have multiple website pages, landing pages, shop, blog, etc..

Pros

My small business has been using wordpress for many years and it is reliable, and user friendly. Once you learn where things are the page layout is predictable and makes editing easy which saves time over always having product updates with changes that make you have to re-learn where things are.

Cons

Probably what I like least is that I don't receive many emails or on screen tips to let me know about new ways, tips, tricks or optimizations to do.

Overall, my experience with WordPress has been very positive. It's a powerful and versatile platform that works well for both simple websites and more complex projects. I especially appreciate being able to manage and update content independently without needing technical support for everyday changes. There is a bit of a learning curve when you move beyond the basics, but the flexibility and huge ecosystem of plugins and integrations make it a very practical solution overall.

Pros

What I like most about WordPress is its flexibility. It's relatively easy to use for everyday website management, even without advanced technical knowledge, while still offering a huge range of customisation options through themes and plugins. It makes it easy to update content, create new pages and manage a website without having to rely on a developer for every small change.

Cons

The main downside is that managing plugins, updates and compatibility can sometimes become complicated. Some issues require more technical knowledge to troubleshoot, and having too many plugins can also affect performance. The interface is generally intuitive, but certain settings could be more straightforward.

My overall experience was positive. I used WordPress successfully for four websites over several years, and it provided the tools and flexibility I needed. I have not updated those sites recently, so I cannot comment on the newest features, but during the years I actively used it, WordPress was dependable and effective.

Pros

WordPress gave me the flexibility to build and manage four different websites over several years. I liked the wide selection of themes and plugins, and I could usually find a practical solution without needing advanced technical skills. It was reliable, customizable, and ultimately helped me get the job done.

Cons

The number of settings, plugins, and customization options could sometimes feel overwhelming. Updates and plugin compatibility occasionally required extra attention, and achieving a very specific layout was not always as straightforward as I wanted. Still, these were manageable issues rather than major obstacles.

We used WordPress for more than 4 years for our company website, blogs and landing pages. It worked well for publishing content and there are a lot of themes and layout options. For basic updates it was easy enough, but anything beyond that often needed help from IT

Pros

WordPress gives you a lot of freedom with page layouts, templates and plugins. Adding blogs, news and simple content changes is fairly easy once everything is setup. There are also plenty of developers who know WordPress, so finding support is not difficult.

Cons

Page editing was not always as simple as it looks. Many small layout changes still needed a developer. An update could sometimes break something that was working fine before. The site can also get slower when too many plugins are installed, and you still have to think about hosting, backups, updates and general maintenance. Even some changes that looked simple ended up needing a developer, which adds cost and takes time.

My overall experience with WordPress has been very positive. I really like it for setting up websites that have a lot of content for clients. Even though Worpress needs work like keeping it updated, making sure it is safe and improvinge how fast it runs all of that is easy to handle if you know the right way to do it. In the end WordPress is still one of the choices, for creating a website that works well and can frow over time.

Pros

I really like Wordpress. The best thing about WordPress is its collection of plugins. These plugins make creating and customizing websites a breeze. They save a lot of time. WordPress is also great it lets you add your PHP, HTML and CSS when you are making or changing themes.. The REST API is a big plus. It makes Wordpress super flexible. You can use it as a CMS. This means it works well with modern frameworks, like React and Next.js.

Cons

I find that relying on many third-party pluginscan cause site bloat and hurt page load speed. Wordpress also needs security updates to lower the risk of vulnerabilities. Building custom Gutenberg blocks can be tougher, than using page builders.

Wordpress allows for users to create sites when they otherwise would've been unable to due to technical skill.

Really positive, invest the time to learn how to use it and you will reap the rewards. Websites are an important part of your marketing arsenal so to have this level of functionality at a free price point is really advantageous.

Pros

It's free and open source so an absolute godsend for marketing operations on a budget (like many SMEs). That also offers a lot of flexibility, particularly with the raft of plugins available (stores for e-commerce, galleries etc). Also easy to edit once you get the hang of it, the learning curve isn't too steep. The design choices for making your own webpage relevant to your brand is powerful also. It also makes SEO really easy to master at implementation stage.

Cons

It does require constant maintenance (core system and plugin updates) but that may be the case for all CMS systems. It doesn't get in the way of day-to-day operations but you do have to consider the time in-house it will take to facilitate this (but if you want a functional website you will have to do this with anything you use).

WordPress has been our go-to CMS for client projects and agency web builds. Its flexibility allows us to build everything from standard business sites to highly customized, high-performance web platforms.

Pros

Extremely versatile open-source CMS with an extensive ecosystem of plugins and themes. It allows rapid website development, custom theme integration, easy content updates, and strong SEO optimization capabilities out of the box.

Cons

Plugin compatibility issues and security vulnerabilities can arise if updates aren't properly managed. It requires regular maintenance, caching configuration, and performance tuning for high-traffic sites.

Alternatives considered

[Webflow](https://www.capterra.com/p/136159/Webflow/)

Reasons for choosing WordPress

WordPress offers a significantly larger ecosystem of plugins, higher flexibility for custom code integration, and an intuitive content editing interface for non-technical client teams.

I love it, I have been using it for over 10 years. There is a reason it is the most used website platform / CMS

Pros

I love how you can build any kind of website, simple or complex on one platform that has endless plugins and integration ability.

Cons

parts of wordpress are a little dated, especially the UI can sometimes leave you wanting more when compared to other newer website builders.

Alternatives considered

[Squarespace](https://www.capterra.com/p/143461/Squarespace/)

Reasons for choosing WordPress

It is just way more customizable and has far more plugins and connections available. It is THE CMS platform globally, so it's just the best.
