### "Great for the price and customizable too."

July 31, 2021

WordPress has helped me as a marketer for the organization I work with. I particularly like that you can (100%) customize everything with WordPress, and still use reasonably complimentary color palettes, maintain an efficient website and manage your content without hassles. The only issue I have is with the number of plug-ins you may need when you desire better features such as SEO.

Pros

Wordpress is great for its multiple features and options. And comparing this software to most site builders, I'd say it's one of the least expensive options. I love that I was able to work with different themes with fixed complimentary color palettes. That way, even if you don't know how to mix colors, you won't be doing anything too crazy. Wordpress recommends different palettes for you to choose from too, so you would have several options to work with. I also found it easy to access old posts, files and images. So, as a CMS, WordPress passes.

Cons

You have to install multiple plug-ins to get your website as you want. Plug-ins are great, but when you have to install a plug-in for every extra feature, it begins to slow your website down.

### ""The best free CMS""

February 26, 2021

When I started creating my own online store and saved a lot of time and money using WordPress, it helped me a lot. Overall, learning WordPress is very beneficial because it allows me to maximize my project in the best version. There are many plugins that can meet your preferences. After all, you don't need to spend a lot of energy to create and manage a website, it doesn't take long to learn the basics and everything goes well. I would like to thank the developer team for this excellent package. Really, I highly recommend this CMS.

Pros

With a maximum of two weeks of learning, you can create dynamic web pages for almost anyone. Powerful plugins/themes and forum support make this product superior to any other product. I've never encountered a problem that can't be understood in various forums and FAQs on the Internet. There are several features and templates to guide you in choosing the theme you wish to continue with. In addition to the templates, if you switch from one template to another, it will automatically transfer your content from one design to another, so you don't have to re-enter all the information.

Cons

Although there are hundreds of templates and customizations to choose from, some are free, but to extend customizations or unlock other features, there is a cost. Most of the technical problems do not come directly from Wordpress itself, but from its theme or plug-in development partners. If one of the plug-ins you rely on is obsolete and abandoned by the designer, you may be out of luck and have to rush to find a new solution when a problem occurs. I hope revisions are simpler and incremental backups are simpler too. Every customization or theme has a cost associated with it; however, these costs are usually negligible for what you get.

For me, Wordpress is the best open source CMS, it has a larger community to provide support and scalability, and publish plugins, updates and themes.

### "Still the best and getting easier"

December 30, 2019

We use WordPress to power a surprising number of content sites, many with more than a thousand articles (the largest site has over 10k total pages). This is a huge blessing from where we were just a few years ago with an expensive, development-heavy, closed-source behemoth. The one thing we really don't intend to use WordPress for is the e-commerce area. We went with a special-purpose platform for that because we didn't want to cobble-together a ton of WooCommerce plugins.

Pros

We use WordPress for more than ten websites, the top three of which have more than a million visitors per month. So, with the right hosting platform, WordPress can be "enterprise". What I like the most is that we've been able to train more than 50 content producers to easily use the system. There is so much self-help training (just not from WordPress itself, all 3p) out there that you can pretty much teach yourself anything. We especially like the SEO courses that all have modules about WordPress--that's crucial because trying to do SEO yourself, without good tools and processes, is a huge time sink. WordPress has so many plugins that you can find anything almost anything you need.

Cons

The greatest strength, the extensibility through plugins, is also a huge weakness. The "batteries not included" model means that you will spend a lot of time selecting, managing and updating plugins. This is still easier than coding site features yourself, but the all-in-one approach of competitors like Wix or Squarespace is pretty attractive if you don't want to configure a bunch of disparate pieces of software.

### "Website Magic"

October 26, 2021

Wordpress is essential for our organization. There is no conceivable way for us to provide the web content needed to maintain engagement, referrals, and donations without either a full time employee who has significant expertise in website creation or a program such as Wordpress to bridge the gap between what we want to post and our technical limitations. The ease in which Wordpress allows us to maintain our website, coupled with the low cost to use the service, lets us solve our problem without paying a full time IT expert. This has allowed us to provide more services to our clientele without draining our operating expenses, and we have not received any negative feedback about our website. Wordpress gives us the ability to do many more things than we use it for, but even utilizing a small number of it's available options has been a financial blessing for our organs.

Pros

Wordpress negates the need for us to maintain an IT expert on our payroll. We need to maintain an internet presence for both referrals and donations, but we do not have the funds to pay a full time employee to create the content we need. Wordpress solves that issue by giving us the ability to continually keep our content fresh and our patrons engaged while not requiring expertise in website design. It takes a minimal skill set and minimal training to be able to operate, giving us the ability to provide the content we need without costing us inordinate amounts of money for the ability.

Cons

Because Wordpress caters to a large range of technical expertise, it has multiple features that we are not able to utilize, given our minimal IT knowledge. However, these features can cause significant problems when used incorrectly by well meaning staff. I would like to be able to remove several features from being available to use so that user mistakes on our end do not make the website unusable.

### "Why I use WordPress for all my websites"

March 27, 2019

5.0

I am an ex nurse who had never touched a website. As a total web novice I learned how to communicate a message about problems with the healthcare industry. I gradually learnt about embedding images, then videos, then podcasts and PDF's. As the information I wished to give people grew, I was always able to find a WordPress plugin or theme to give me the power that normally would only belong to full stack developers. Now I share large amounts of data on my site, embed multimedia and share information easily on social media sites. I have done inexpensive online courses on WordPress, but am basically self-taught. I am very grateful to WordPress for having made web communication available to everybody. WordPress now powers 1/4 of the world's websites. Anytime I have an issue, there is a huge community of users who have cheerfully created uTube videos and tutorials, explaining how to fix virtually every problem.

Pros

In one word - community. WordPress is supported by a huge global community. While the software is a MySQL database, it's open source framework allows developers from around the world to build free and very low cost software add ons, or 'plugins'. WordPress powers eCommerce sites, Newspapers, Directories, Music sites, podcasts and more. From a single page advertising a coffee shop to an online store selling thousands of items, WordPress has the capability to communicate your digital message to the world, in any language, any format and connecting to any major platform.

Cons

If you don't write code, WordPress gives you a 'go between', a content management system that looks like word processing software to the user, but generates the appropriate HTML, CSS, PHP, JAVASCRIPT behind the scenes. Unlike traditional coding software like dreamweaver that use FTP (file transfer protocol) to update your site on the server, WordPress updates are done directly (and continuously) from your WordPress dashboard. This gives a more intimate feel but a slower work load. WordPress started out as blogging software and that beginning unpins its current format. Some plugins are buggy, will clash with other plugins and can even break your site. Sticking with mainstream ones (that often require a minimal payment) is safest.

### "Great website platform for beginners and experienced developers"

I have used this software for over 10 years and wouldn't use anything else for making a new website. The possibilities when building a site with WordPress are endless provided you are ready to invest time in learning about and supporting the WordPress community.

Pros

The biggest strength of WordPress is the depth and quality of 3rd party software that allows people with limited coding experience add new functionality to their website.

Cons

Doing you first web project with WordPress can be daunting as there are some essential steps in the setup process that can significantly improve the performance in the future. It requires practice and research to get comfortable and fast working with the platform.

### "WordPress review"

March 29, 2020

4.0

in general I have gained a lot using WordPress. I would never have been able to build a site and manage and maintain it efficiently myself. I am satisfied with my experience with WordPress, there are still some small things that need to be improved. WordPress is an ideal tool for hobbyists who want to have their own site. And I made a lot of savings by choosing WordPress.

Pros

4 years ago I decided to create a blog to promote insurance products on the internet. I had no programming skills, I wanted to hire someone to do the work but the cost was high. I joined a Facebook group for programmers and asked if it was possible to create and manage a blog without any programming skills. I got several responses with a few suggestions. I explored each of his suggestions and WordPress was the one that caught my attention the most. I was able to create my own blog in 3 hours without any programming skills. WordPress asked me a few questions and based on my answers they suggested the most suitable themes for your blog and you can customize it as you wish. WordPress offers several free tools to optimize your site or blog on all levels. I use Quick AdSense to promote my products on my blog, I use a Google AdSense plug-in to monetize my blog by displaying Google ads. WordPress is really the perfect tool for amateurs. I've been using WordPress for 5 years now and I've never used a professional to help on anything. I do everything myself like a pro.

Cons

the degree of customization is not the same on all themes. on some themes you can almost all modify and on others it's very limited which is really annoying. when I create my blog the theme I took wasn't my favorite one the one I would prefer didn't offer a lot of customization possibilities. the mobile version of WordPress is difficult to use and the visualization on mobile distorts a little bit the elements of the site. some elements that appear on pc don't appear on mobile. this makes it very difficult to manage my blog by phone. you can't make deep changes like modifying your theme easily using a phone which is very annoying when you move without your pc.

### "WordPress is a fantastic platform for creating websites due to its user-friendly interface, extensive customization options."

May 17, 2024

5.0

Its intuitive interface, vast array of themes and plugins, and strong community support have made it my preferred platform for building websites. While there have been occasional challenges with performance optimization and updates, its flexibility and functionality outweigh any drawbacks.

Pros

What stands out most about WordPress is its flexibility and scalability. With its extensive library of themes and plugins, users can create virtually any type of website, from simple blogs to complex e-commerce sites. Its user-friendly interface and robust community support further enhance its appeal for both beginners and experienced developers.

Cons

One aspect of WordPress that could be improved is its performance optimization. While WordPress itself is highly customizable, some themes and plugins may impact site speed and loading times, requiring careful selection and optimization efforts. Additionally, managing updates for themes, plugins, and the core software can sometimes be cumbersome.

### "WordPress brings technology to you"

October 24, 2022

When I started with Wordpress back in 2011, I found that I could learn about so many things that didn't make sense before. SEO, Google Analytics and why they were so important to my business. When I started online radio and TV, I began to work with html and some of the backend. I loved being able to update without hesitation when I had changes to make and I didn't have to talk to a programmer who didn't understand what I wanted. Would I change? Not at all. It beat Wix and Site Creator hands down. It also made sense since 90% of the technical world were creating plugins for Wordpress.

Pros

It brings the world of web design into the hands of the entrepreneur and anyone else that wants to get their product or service to the world without spending a fortune to get it there. I love that its easy to use and within hours you can have a website that links to so many places that you are soon up and running. And the help that's available worldwide makes this the product of the century.

Cons

I loved the classic layout and now that Elementor has come out its made it more difficult for someone like me who likes to work in a system where I can see what I am doing simply and easily. So that is one of the things I liked least about the upgrades. But if that's all then it still makes it the best web design software available today. Whatever Gutenberg is that makes avatars for you to ensure that as an author you can have your picture up on the article, its the worst option ever. No one I know even knows how to work that system and I hope one day they just have an option to put your picture in a circle and add it to the article as an author.

### "Easy to use with great functionality"

August 7, 2021

Excellent overall experience. Good product, easy to use, some fantastic plugins and themes. I have opted to install a premium paid for theme (I had used several free themes previously which were fine but didn't quite nail it) and it is worth every penny. Wordpress itself is free, so having to pay a little for the theme and some plugins seemed worthwhile.

Pros

Wordpress, once you get the hang of it is very easy to use and incredibly expandable. There are many add-ons in the form of plugins (free, freemium or premium) and a whole host of templates available (again free or paid) to allow for a very easy website building process.

Cons

The 'back-end' doesn't allow for much adaptation unless using a premium theme such as Divi meaning that if setting up an online store you finish up using boxes with titles which don't really resemble what their purposes is - when you get the hang of it it's absolutely fine but looks a bit odd if you are allowing third parties access to sell their goods

Reason for choosing WordPress

Ease of use and free.

### "A great platform for blogging, with various user level options and thousands of plugins available."

September 18, 2018

I use WordPress for a tiny placeholder blog article posting with the context of it being scalable and to develop later on, if as needed of basis arises. I started off on WordPress as a small business digital multimedia publishing company sit in temp worker, adding small various features such as mail chimp to a site to customize a mailing list context for the already established and developed site. I found that the plugin itself was rich in features of customized basis and workflow process, beyond a visitor entering information in to a query box, and establishing mailing lists of input client email addresses, as needed, offered various menu contexts and options that allow for common takes on what merits a customer business relationship management basis, to start off on, with potentially more complex and perhaps paid plugins available later on in the development cycle, which would build upon notions established in the free offering of mail chimp. Aside from that, I published some small and slight personal aspiration project article stuff on an OSX modded for Windows computers fan base establishment online that I left alone for a year and came back to find that it had gathered over 300 hits over the course of a year with no attention or particular promotion given to it, aside from what I'd included in the basic offering of free WordPress blog offerings, within the context of perhaps that they include a tag and search engine basis of keywords to send off for blogs to be found.

Pros

WordPress is a highly extendable, modifiable, and customizable website design service based on a blog as the model for launching a ready to use and scalable context of website design, of which: many popular and widely various sorts of sites are capably produced. The added benefit of being able to access an array of thousands of third party plugins, which are, within the context of WordPress, particularly embeddable modules of various commonly used and conceivably necessary sorts, such as tables and entries for establishing mailing lists, customer queries, site stats for user visits, various page speed loading boosts, search engine optimization helpers; all sorts of common web page features that an individual woukd commonly come across in browsing the web at large, that pop up to challenge the web site designer from novice level of experience, to inasmuch as they make of their blog, as it starts off, with WordPress features and extensions via plugins that make it truly a work of a labor of care and devotion that a blog can truly end up as, as the web designer and domain owner, as it might be, in WordPress advanced user offerings of subscription basis that offer higher end features, bandwidth, and basis of extending a back end support team context of Top-Level-Domain email addresses, of custom sites, whereas the free WordPress basic site offering features a custom brand or naming basis as a sub domain of WordPress as the main host for the blog. Basic featured good SEO reach.

Cons

I could probably stand to spend more time using WordPress, although at the moment I work primarily on mobile, and as far as I've searched around, the plugins are more commonly adaptable in a desktop or traditional computer otherwise, as a standard laptop or tablet, as it might be. At some point, I'll most likely get in to working with many standards of web publishing platform offerings, several that they are, for an investigation as towards servicing gig basis clients on their chosen platform, and to offer various and competitive website design services, obviously inclusive of the major and popular e-commerce and blogging service offerings, as a service and delivery specualist of having a context of personal experience at my available resource.

### "WordPress is getting better, but they might need to be the best!"

October 22, 2022

4.0

Great! Overall, I would still gladly recommend WordPress to my peers and friends. Despite discrepancies, WordPress is still worth recommending.

Pros

\- The very thing that we like about WordPress is the fact that is is FREE and Open-Source. You cannot have one great deal with that.- It is easy to use. Gone are the days where you build your website from ground up - no any other options. If money is an issue, you do it yourself - learn to code. If money is not much of a concern - you hire designer and developer at once. WordPress just dust it off to a new level. And you know why and how!- WordPress has the most varied and numerous arsenal of plugins and extension that blur any competition. It almost got it all for you!- Support Community. Type a WordPress issue on Google and you will be very hard-pressed to not see any solution to your issue with the WordPress community on the top of the search.- Theme Builder, Theme, Plugin compatibility, support and integration. WordPress has the most affiliated third-party Theme Builder manufacturer. You bet on it, you will less likely to not be able to find the things that you need - Website building concerns.

Cons

\- As always, WordPress native builder, though free, is still ugly. Riddled with User Experience Issues. It's confusing where and when the widgets appear when you need to add them.- Some of the affiliated theme/plugins are just so darn expensive. Use WooCommerce and a very simple functionality is at a hundred bucks at least. You'd be better off learning how to code PHP.- Lacks User Experience sentiments. WordPress needs to employ user experience to there website. It is still not user friendly even though it is a CMS-Based website builder.

### "Most popular way to build your website or blog"

February 15, 2021

5.0

It helped me a lot when I start creating my own online store and I saved a lot of time and money using WordPress. and after all, you don't need to put a lot of effort to create and manage your website you just need some time to learn the basics and you are good to go.

Pros

I like it because it allows me to build a website for free and yes it's 100% free, unlike other website builders in the market. It's effortless to use, and the user interface is amicable and easy to use without any web designing or coding background also, It's open-source. WordPress themes are amazing because they are very flexible and I can add or remove anything with just simple clicks. I start using WordPress to build my online store a few years ago, and I didn't have any knowledge on how to use it but, with simple research on the internet I found a step by step guide and I build my online store in a few days without any problems, and I was amazed how everything works and how fast the website load. with time I found WordPress offers a lot of plugins and one of them was Woocommerce and I start using it with WordPress and I was very happy with the final results because I had everything I wanted in my website (online store). I like how I'm allowed to customize everything and how I have complete control of my website. also, I like the idea of how I can move my Website to any hosting company or change the domain name without any problem. I like the integrations available on WordPress especially for the payment options, Email marketing tools, SEO tools...etc.

Cons

If you have full control this means you are responsible for the security of your own website, installing updates, saving backups, and this for some people will be very hard to manage. It takes some time to build your own website because WordPress doesn't come with a drag and drop option like some other website builders. but, after all, you don't need to put a lot of effort to create and manage your website you just need some time to learn the basics and you are good to go.

### "Couldn’t live without it!"

September 17, 2021

I absolutely love using Wordpress and truly can’t imagine ever using anything else to build a site.

Pros

I’ve been using Wordpress for the last 10 years - starting with a simple blog, and working my way up to a full e-commerce and subscription site. It is absolutely indispensable and has always been a pleasure to use. I honestly can’t believe it remains free, and am consistently pleased by the updates the Automattic team makes. Publishing is a breeze, the integrations are endless (literally ANY type of website is possible) and after acclimating to Gutenberg blocks, I am so pleased to be able to drop the page-builder I was using (instant page speed improvement). Though some may feel there’s a bit of a learning curve, I think \*most\* of their UI choices remain fairly intuitive (especially compared to some of the other CMS options!). I love that I can easily manage my entire shop via Woocommerce in the backend, and have been impressed with what specific theme integrations and plugins can automate for me so I can focus on publishing content rather than spending all my time managing it.

Cons

The one thing I’ve noticed that irks me since the adoption of Gutenberg blocks is that there can a bit of a lag when typing or choosing block options. The blocks can be a bit buggy at times, which can be irritating when in the middle of writing a long post. I also dislike that the post view defaults to “fullscreen mode” even if I’ve previously switched it to keep the sidebar in view. The dashboard view also feels a bit tired and could use an overhaul.

Reason for choosing WordPress

It offered so many more features and there wasn’t any subscription cost or related fee to run my shop.

### "Excellent way to get your small to medium sized business online"

February 17, 2021

5.0

I love working with Wordpress and have made a business around it. My own websites are built on Wordpress and create them for my clients. My team can go in and make most of the necessary updates and it is easy to train people on how to use it.

Pros

By creating sites with Wordpress, you can easily keep your website up to date with fresh new content. Almost any functionality you need can be delivered via a plugin. Chances are someone else needed the same thing and has come up with a good solution, so searching the vast community will lead you the best solution for your own (or your client's) business. If it hasn't been done before, there are plenty of skilled developers that can create a plugin for you at a fraction of the cost of building a custom html site from nothing. That said, you can literally choose a premade theme and have a decent site launched in a day if you were so inclined (and prepared with content).

Cons

Most of the cons are not due to Wordpress itself, but the theme or plugin developers. If a theme or plugin that you rely gets outdated and abandoned by the developer, you may be out of luck and have to scurry to find a new solution when things go wrong. I wish revisions were simpler, as well as incremental backups.

Reason for choosing WordPress

Before Wordpress, I handcoded everything in html, css and php. I was not very proficient in php or databases. While it was fun to learn, it was more of a full time business just creating and updating the website. It didn't leave time to actually run the business I wanted to bring online via a website.

### "Tries to be all things for web creators; nearly succeeds"

September 8, 2021

5.0

I've been using WordPress personally for more than ten years, and professionally for five years. I've seen bloated sites, slow sites, and broken functionality. I've observed sharp disagreement within the WordPress community on the direction of the platform. I've also seen a consistently useful, highly customizable platform that largely succeeds at its mission: to democratize publishing.

Pros

First, WordPress is produced with an open-source ethos. The core software is free and supported by a talented community. WordPress is highly extensible, so you can build almost any kind of website with this.

Cons

The all things for all people mentality sometimes means that WordPress isn't the best solution for specific kinds of sites. In addition, I still wish there were an easier on-ramp for people who aren't familiar with the steps needed to set up a website. That said, there is wordpress.com which essentially provides this.

Reason for choosing WordPress

WordPress gives the user full control and is better at content management than BigCommerce. WordPress is faster to spin up than Drupal and is better known.

### "Perfect for bloggers "

April 6, 2021

5.0

I used WordPress through Bluehost for my first blog. I had zero coding experience when I first started and was able to navigate and use WordPress fine. My biggest issue was just being overwhelmed with how many features and tools come with WordPress. There is a lot to learn but I still would highly recommend it to anyone creating a website.

Pros

There is so much flexibility and freedom with WordPress, you can customize your website exactly how you want it. And it's completely free! WordPress comes with literally hundreds of free themes to choose from and you can search through themes based on type of business so it's easy to find one that suits your needs. WordPress also comes with built-in analytics so it's really easy to track your website stats like page views, website visitors, etc. Another awesome feature is the WordPress post and page builder. It uses a pretty simple yet customizable drag and drop editor so writing articles and setting up pages is simple. I also really like how much free content you can find online on navigating and using WordPress. Because it's so popular there are tons of videos, articles, and tutorials on how to use WordPress. Another perk of WordPress being so popular is that there are endless themes and plugins, both paid and free, for WordPress.

Cons

Because WordPress is so customizable and there are so many features, it can take some time to get the hang of it. There is so much to learn it can be a little overwhelming at first, especially if you are new to creating blogs or websites. There is definitely a learning curve with Wordpress. I would highly recommend taking the time to become familiar with each feature and tool of Wordpress and get a good grasp and understanding of how it works before you jump into starting your website. Even then, encountering any kind of website problem can take a long time to solve because there are so many moving parts with Wordpress. There have been many times where I've spent hours ruling out different potential causes of a certain glitch or malfunction in my website.

### "Not a better website platform out there"

April 3, 2020

5.0

Again, I've been using WordPress for years across no less than 5 sites. I'm not an advanced user by any stretch of the imagination. I hardly go into the code, and I need to lookup how to do anything outside my normal level of operation. For the average person, WordPress is easy to navigate and self-explanatory. You'll need help setting up the initial site if you aren't at least intermediate level with web design. But maintenance and daily posts are easy to handle for any beginner.

Pros

I have been using WordPress for years. I've attempted to switch website platforms before, not necessarily by choice (someone else has usually initiated the switch). But nothing has come close to the ease of use for WordPress. Plugins are easy to add, themes are easy to find and customize. Adding posts is a breeze, just create a new one. Pages are much the same way, but aren't attached to your blog page. You can select which page because the home page and which page is the blog page. Nearly everything is customizable.

Cons

Some features are hard to find. Particularly when you add a new plugin. A lot of plugins will have links on the plugin page that take you to their settings, but not all. Some plugins end up on the navigation on the left hand side, but not all. For the few that get buried deep in a linking tree somewhere, it can be difficult to find the plugin to make edits. This isn't necessarily WordPresses fault, but they could make it a little easier. WordPress also usually doesn't handle customer service issues. Every plugin and theme has it's own developers and WordPress is no help with them at all. You have to contact the plugin owner. And that can be hard at times. I've had better luck getting my web host to help me with WordPress related issues than WordPress themselves.

Alternatives considered

[Squarespace](https://www.capterra.com/p/143461/Squarespace/)

Reason for choosing WordPress

Perhaps my familiarity with WordPress made WordPress the obvious choice. Learning new software is difficult. I'll be honest, it's not the best reason for not switching. But it is one. I'm genuinely happy with WordPress and don't plan to leave anytime soon.
