I really love Wordpress because it's not just very simple to use such as self-hosted page builders out there, but it's also extremely expendable. If you are an online marketer, a blogger or just somebody starting out with building websites, Wordpress is your go-to solution. I'm not trying to sound overly happy here, but Wordpress is truly a fantastic piece of software. Here is what I especially like about Wordpress: - Very easy to set up, I never had any problems with it, regardless of server configuration - The amount of free plugins is HUGE! In this case a more complex solution like Drupal might be better suitable. Security is still a big issue in Wordpress and lots of standard features like email obfuscation are not built in like in other CMS's. Thus you will be the target of hacker and spam attacks soon. To be fair, I must add though that a lot of security issues can be solved by regularly updating Wordpress and all its plugins. The main problem though is that Wordpress is so well-known, hackers look for Wordpress sites more often than they look for other CMS's. That's mostly it. It was exactly what we needed, when we needed it. Quick entry point, ease of use, functionality, flexibility, etc. Then we found better options and have since moved all of our sites, and clients, away from Wordpress. Growth requires change, right? Overall, however, Wordpress did what it was designed to do and we appreciated what it offered. It was pivotal in our early days and - even though we no longer use it - we do think it's a great place to get started, learn the ropes, and develop a style/brand/offering before branching out into more robust design/development endeavors. Easy to use, highly customizable and fast to set-up. It doesn't really get better than that. Also, in terms of SEO and editing the technical configurations, WordPress provides complete freedom. Cons The only thing I find problematic about WordPress is the fact that it's poor security options. In my opinion, its easier to get hacked if you don't regularly change the passwords, or update WordPress versions properly, website is prone to hacking and certain malware. I'd highly recommend it for most of the people as it has a very pleasant UI and it's easy to use even for not tech people - your client. Pros The community. It has a wide support for the plugins. You can find almost any plugin you would think of. There are lots of tutorials/questions etc. on the internet too which makes it easy to deal with your problems. There are plenty of cheap option to host your Wordpress instance, which is a big plus. There is also a lot of themes you can use for free, but also lots of high quality paid ones (that are not expensive too). Cons Code quolity. Even though there are lots of plugins and themes, usually their code quality is poor. It's hard to add new features to already existing themes or change something. It's easi to write your own custom theme, but it requires way higher budget for the project, which is not a common thing. I learned by doing new things, stumbling on new issues, then learning from the mistake and troubleshooting from online forums. Now I have 10-15 websites at a time and also help my clients with their websites. Of course, I am still learning and I am no coder, I have 0 coding knowledge. If you dont like something, it is likely that there are at least 10 alternatives. So I can not say I dont like something, I KNOW there is an alternative that I would like. The new Gutenberg update had caught me unaware like thousands of other users and I am still using the old interface (guilty!), so that transition might be called somthing that gave me a hiccup. In one of our companies, a staff member took upon them to set up their website to save on cost. Web development companies are expensive. I set up WordPress for them. They were able to set up a website and go live within days at a fraction of the cost they would have otherwise paid to marketing agencies. SEO has worked great. Forms have worked well. We have enjoyed moving all of our sites to WordPress. Pros WordPress is easy! Within 20 minutes, we had our website up and running. With a 30 minute training session, staff was able to post blogs, create pages, create menus and set up forms. Prior to WordPress, setting up a website was a project. With WordPress, website management is a breeze. Cons When automatic updates break something, it's not easy to debug. For those users who don't host WordPress themselves, this would be less of an issue. We host WordPress sites ourselves and enable automated updates. Once in a while updates break our site and we have to debug it by logging on to our servers. Alternatives considered [Ghost](https://www.capterra.com/p/151947/Ghost/) Reason for choosing WordPress WordPress was very easy compared to other alternatives. The plugin ecosystem was very convenient and we had local developers who could helps move our aspirations forward with WordPress.
