January 29, 2025 3.0 I started with WordPress and if you want to dabble in blogging on your hosting or WP platform is a great solution. Entry level landing page is mind blowing! Visual editor, ability to assemble the site like lego. All of this for pennies. Don't dare write serious solutions on it beyond MVP or blogging. Pros Arguably the best CMS in the world... was in 2010s. Today still found on the market, there are entire companies that specialise in the rapid development of simple WordPress-based solutions. However, it looks more like stagnation to me. You can take it as a POC (proof of concept) for your business ideas if you don't want to take a SaaS solution. But as soon as your idea is viable, start full-fledged development immediately. Cons Outdated, ancient core, functional programming, live bait for all kinds of hacking. Working with database via strange ORM, absolutely structureless database structure. Almost pointless without 150 plugins, whose code can be the cause of site hacking. Review Source MP Marija P. I started with free templates and upgraded to better paid version. Wordpress can accommodate everything for your blog, literally everything. The price is really accessible, and descriptuions and faqs make everythign so easy. I wish they had a better support system, but for price you can't really beat it. Pros Easy to use for beginners, lots of plugins, good price. Lots of free templates to chose from, and easy navigation. Pros What i love most about WordPress is its ability to integrate with numerous plugins such as WooCommerce, Google Sitekit, Elementor thats the best website builder and WP forms. Pros WordPress is easy to install, configure and maintain. The WordPress ecosystem is well supported and provides a plethora of themes and plugins. Costs range from free to low cost. WordPress is extremely flexible and SEO friendly. Being open source means there is community support, and the ability to even write your own code. Cons Being the most popular CMS for the web, it is often the target of hackers. Once you set up a comprehensive site, there are constant updates for the platform, themes and plugins. Having a WordPress site now means I can access details on nearly everything that builds and maximizes the page, and my current developer can still manage the nuances of the page design and general SEM to boot. Cons Wordpress definitely has a learning curve and it can be challening to get the exact vision you have for the page to work. As someone who had no Wordpress knowledge prior to using it, it took a few weeks to get comfortable with it. Pros Wordpress is incredibly powerful and flexible tool for designing and programming websites. It's also relatively user-friendly and easy to learn how to use with a bit of time and trial and error. Particularly appreciate the wide range of compatible plugins that help make programming simpler. Cons My main dislike with wordpress is mostly related to the additional components you can choose to use as a website designer - especially themes and plugins. As wordpress is regularly updated, this can put you out of step with your plugins and theme components unless THEY are also being regularly updated, which can cause display glitches and headaches on the front end of the site. This is especially likely to happen when using plugins that aren't updated regularly or are more niche. It does need to get with the times in many aspects but it is open-source, has the best community around and is highly extensible. Pros Easy to make a website, even more complex websites. The Codex and API are great and the plugins are endless - you can integrate just about anything. Cons The wp\_meta table makes it very hard to scale - WordPress really need to modernise its database structure. I get that it was originally intended as a blogging platform, so the structure does make sense, however, the ecosystem has evolved into so much more with the likes of WooCommerce etc and the WP database needs to keep up to scaling standards. Pros I have used WordPress mainly for creating a blog and a website, and it serves well in that. The free version got so many limitations, and as i wanted to have my own domain name, i chose the smallest possible package as service. There's enough of storage for my need, and the site has been available constantly, no loading issues. Service is very flexible, and you can create almost any kind of website using WordPress. Cons My biggest con is the need of technical skills. In case you want to get something fancy or specific thing on your site, you need to find a proper plug-in. And there are all too many of them! And i have started my first website at the time it was all built up from a scratch, by writing code! And I still find it too difficult to find all the details, and create exactly I want.
