### "Built for Blogging, but You Can Do So Much More with It"

February 22, 2018

4.0

I was able to start a business with just a few months of web design experience and nail an excellent job. I am incredibly grateful for WordPress and feel like I owe a great debt to its contributors.

Pros

I design all my client websites in WP. It's easy to use, easy to explain how to use when I hand off a website, and it's free. What more could you ask for? With the myriad plugins out there, you can almost always find a plugin for your needs without paying for it. Of course, you do need to purchase plugins every now and then, but that sure beats the costs associated with some other CMSs. I'm able to easily manage users, orders, pages, products (with WooCommerce), etc. It's no wonder why somewhere between 25% and 30% of the internet is powered by WordPress.

Cons

I do wish there was more out of the box, even if that meant you had to go to your settings/tools and check a few boxes to enable certain admin menu items. Having to use plugins for almost everything is a bit cumbersome at times, and there can be compatibility issues. Out of the box, WP is very easy to use, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't do a whole lot without plugins and/or premium themes.

### "A Great Home for your Blog"

February 28, 2019

5.0

Going back to the subject of WordPress' versatility, it was very exciting to discover that there was such a large online community for technical support. Anytime I had a question on how to make my pages look and function better, the information I sought was only a few clicks away. Furthermore, WordPress became a regular reading spot for me as my search through other blogs brought me to all kinds of interesting and encouraging content. I was even able to communicate via the comments sections with fellow bloggers whom I now consider friends. WordPress isn't just a great tool, it's a great community.

Pros

Both I and my husband run our blogs through WordPress. I really like this site for its versatility and user-friendly dashboard. This is a great site for personal blogs because it's so easy to use and customise. But, if you want to start a small business and are just beginning your online marketing campaign, it's really wonderful for that too. The free, basic starter package is full of great features that will give you a very clean, professional look. It also has many opportunities for expansion as your business grows and you're ready to spend more money. I highly recommend it for a starting place as well as a permanent web-home.

Cons

The one problem I had with WordPress was that with the starter (free) package, it was not possible to remove the date from the top of a blog post. This might seem like a little thing, but when using WordPress as a business website as I did, this means that static pages that normally wouldn't require updates had the unprofessional date on top that showed the public exactly when I launched that page. This made the information seem stale and out of date. This was, however, a minor qualm, especially considering that the site wasn't technically designed for static pages. Also, it could be solved by purchasing the next tier package.

### "The most customizable website builder "

May 29, 2020

5.0

Wordpress is fantastic for those sites that need to be highly customized, but if you are looking for something more simple, this isn't the site for you. For those who want to choose every font and size and color and placement, you can definitely find all you need with Wordpress. Expect to pay more than originally thought when you add up everything needed plus everything you want. Even so, I am super happy with Wordpress and don't think I will ever get out of it.

Pros

\- PLUGINS: You can customize your site to have whatever functionality you need. THERE ARE PLUGINS FOR EVERYTHING. It's incredible. - Themes: You can choose free website themes or sift through the tons of paid ones to find whichever fits your needs (the more expensive ones are more customizable, and will make your website look STUNNING and won't look cookie cutter like Squarespace or Wix) - Integrations: You can integrate a ton of other programs with Wordpress, which always gives a better user experience

Cons

There is a definite learning curve to the site. There's a lot going on and you'll be bombarded online with what is needed and best for your site. Since they are SO MANY choices for plugins and themes, it can make it hard to get started and know you chose the right one - get recommendations from people you know! THANKFULLY there are a few really great websites that focus on helping beginners with Wordpress. However, you really need a basic understanding of coding or at least will have to learn it or else you will tear your hair out when you run into a problem.

### "I use them to build corporate websites"

February 28, 2021

5.0

I could not have my current side business without wordpress - as it makes it more efficent and cost effective for me to spin up and host custom wordpress websites for people that dont want to spend £££££ on custom designed stattic websites.

Pros

It's an open platform and completely free for new entrants - coming from the old world of creating websites it absolutely revolutionised the way we create and design websites. the sheer amount of integrated plugins means you can do absolutely anything you can dream off.

Cons

It can be very difficult for new users to pickup - and from an end user perspective - ongoing management of the solution is difficult to maintain without a custom front end CMS - there are also a lot of threats due to the sheer number of 3rd party plugins that integrate to wordpress.

Alternatives considered

Reason for choosing WordPress

Cost - lots of resources out there on how to pick up wordpress also

Free integrations just made it a no brainer - and it was alot easier to understand and deploy.

### "Serves the Purpose"

February 27, 2021

4.0

I originally used WordPress to create my first website as a blog about 5 years ago. My overall experience with WordPress has been fine. I haven't been thrilled, but I don't hate it either. I wish it were a bit easier to use and that I had more flexibility for creating the design that suits my purposes. Maybe someday I can hire a web designer/developer.

Pros

WordPress is a common website design tool. You can find many tutorials and even entire websites devoted to help you learn how to use WordPress. Setting up my first website as a basic blog was relatively easy following a tutorial about how to start your blog on WordPress. If you’re on a budget, you can find some decent free themes and set up a basic website without hiring a designer or developer.

Cons

When I first set up my blog, by chance I discovered that the URL on my author bio page showed my log in email address! After quite a bit of digging around on the web, I figured out how to rectify that. When WordPress implemented Gutenberg, the transition was rather challenging and frustrating for me. At the time I was only occasionally going into the backend of my website. After the switch, popping in to do the simplest thing turned into a major, time-consuming headache. I finally got the hang of the new interface and am okay with it now. As I pivoted from a blog to more of a design premise, I haven't been too happy with the default Portfolio and Testimonial options.

### "Why I recommend WordPress."

October 31, 2021

4.0

Of all the other content management tools I've used before, I recommend WordPress for ease of use and integration.

Pros

WordPress menu system is easy to use. From the main menu, it provides on your dashboard to create your own site menus is just awesome! Integration of other services works well with WordPress and the number is growing every day. WordPress uses its own database so integration with a previously built stand-alone site can be difficult or not possible. You would have to create the site over.

Cons

I believe WorPress needs to make switching over a regular non-content managed site easier with automation.

### "Not Always the Easiest to Use, But Definitely Worth Learning"

February 12, 2019

4.0

Overall, my experience was positive. My site is built on WP and I have no plans of ever changing that.

Pros

WordPress is like your one-stop shop. It has everything, it can integrate with anything, and there's a plug-in for all your needs. This is my favorite part of WP — it's integral to my business. And it's only becoming more savvy. Whether you want a blog, an ecommerce site, or something else entirely, you can use WP. They have countless templates you can build from, or you can do something totally unique.

Cons

Depending on what kind of blog/website you want to build, WP isn't always the easiest. In fact, it can be downright frustrating. One time, I even switched to Wix because I was so fed up. (Full disclosure, I ended up going BACK to WordPress.) WordPress markets themselves like the most user-friendly option. It really isn't. But I do believe it's worth learning how to use. Or, worst case scenario, you'll have no problem finding a WP expert who can build your site for you.

### "Wordpress is one of the best CMS platforms out there"

April 11, 2019

5.0

It has been good overall as I was able to setup websites for customers who either wanted a simple site to interact with their customers or those who had products to sell. The only other cost was the purchase of the premium theme which made it worth it. Had it not been for Wordpress, it would have been difficult to set up sites.

Pros

I love that it's so easy to use and has so much flexibility. The installation is super easy and allows for user roles to be allocated without much of an effort: Super Admin, Admin, Editor, Author, Contributor and Subscriber. The interface is easy to use, though some features need time to get used to it. The best part is that you don't have to stick with the default and can use any theme to enhance the site you are using it on. The only caveat is that you have to read the theme's instructions to figure out how each feature works as it's not so simple enough. The ease of use functionality and the ability to tweak it to my requirements, make it a winner for me.

Cons

Sometimes, the themes can be broken if they are no longer supported or if they are not with the right version of wordpress. Some plugins will sometimes not work or ruin the website for you. This means that if there is one issue, it can render your website inoperable. The comments section of Wordpress is also flawed and requires third party plugins to make it better. I also need to install Akismet API to filter out the spam.

### "Wordpress is a life saver"

October 26, 2018

5.0

I have built and maintained several websites for myself and other people. Wordpress has helped me to market myself and has helped me to make money. I highly recommend Wordpress.

Pros

I love wordpress because it's easy to use if you even remotely know anything about HTML and CSS. I love the fact that there are so many templates to choose from that you can customize to your liking. It's much easier than building a website from scratch. There are so many features that make your website look fun, beautiful and professional. Its fast and very user friendly. You can have a whole website up and running in one day if you know what you're doing even a little bit. There are plenty of tutorials online that will teach you how to do it.

Cons

Wordpress can be kind of glitchy, and one false move you can lose your whole website. So you really have to be careful. Make sure you have a good internet service provider who provides helpful technical support. I have needed this a few times. But overall wordpress is great!

### "Wordpress is the industry standard"

November 5, 2018

4.0

Pros

I love how easy to use Wordpress is for marketers who are responsible for managing their company's website. As a non-developer, I find it fairly easy to add what I need without the help of a developer, which makes me able to work quickly and with agility. Also, on the blog side, Wordpress makes it so easy to give guest writers access and to plan content with consideration for SEO. I'm always happy when I learn that a company has a Wordpress site, because then I know I'll have no problem getting the job done.

Cons

The number of plugins that are needed to run a website with the tags and functionality that is expected today can really slow down website load times. Also, the constant updates of Wordpress make it challenging to ensure plugins still run properly and things don't break. It would be great if Wordpress could iterate with consideration for a changing market and find ways for users to not be so dependent on clunky plugins that affect performance.

### "Too Simplistic"

March 11, 2019

4.0

Overall I do enjoy WordPress, certain things are easy, such as connecting your domain to your site, but other things, like more complex designs, can be very frustrating. I would however recommend it to everyone because it is a great base for a site.

Pros

I think for people that know very little about computers and websites and aren't comfortable with them, this website is great. It has great features and themes that allow someone to make the basics of a website for what they want, for their blogs to make it simplistic and easy. It is a great base to create something you may otherwise not know how to do.

Cons

Being someone that is much more comfortable with a computer and who has more complex expectations for my website and blog I find that it can be rather frustrating at times. The fact that there are two ways to edit, their main editing page and their admin editing page can be frustrating because having it separated like that is hard to deal with. For something that should be simple, like wanting specific posts to go to a certain page it is more difficult then I think it should be to set up. I have had to recreate and find loopholes just to have co-writers work show up on the right page. While the site is made to be simple sometimes that simplicity had been stifling and I often have to find articles and youtube videos to get an answer to what I need.

### "Why WordPress still works for me."

August 12, 2021

I have used it for years. I have watched it grow. I use it for a retail web site.

Pros

WordPress is versatile. You can integrate many different tools into word press to customize your web presence they way you want or need it.

Cons

You have to be careful with the addons. Sometimes they can be a bit pricey and before you know it you have doubled your monthly cost. Its important to know the features of WordPress so you don't duplicate them with outside apps.

### "A good option, though competition is strong."

October 28, 2019

4.0

WordPress is great though it does have its flaws. Over the years, more and more companies have found ways to make website creation easier and have more intuitive UI's compared to WordPress which is one of the reasons why WordPress isn't as talked to as much now as it was years ago.

Pros

One of the best things about WordPress is its customization. It allows users to be able to create the image of the website they want in their head without having to worry too much about the programming side of the website. WordPress comes with themes, easy to use and customize features, and its popularity is already one of its stronger selling points. It is a great platform for beginners and for those not wanting to spend too much time in website creation. I transitioned to WordPress thanks to its popularity and just because I could do a lot more with my blog there.

Cons

Its customization is both its strength and its weakness. There are so many ways to start with WordPress that it can get confusing for a lot of people, especially those just starting out. A lot of good features on WordPress are also barred by costs, and while a good portion of it can be accessed for free; a lot of it remains strictly behind a paywall. I also don't like the fact that you have to use a WordPress tag on your personal website unless you actually pay for the domain. While the reasoning for it is sound, it also devalues a lot of good websites due to the WordPress tag being categorized as for those who don't have money/ for those who don't take their websites seriously.

Reason for choosing WordPress

Not Applicable.

### "Switched to WordPress and launched a responsive website in a few hours"

July 5, 2018

5.0

Pros

I have started with HTML and Microsoft FrontPage to create websites, way back in 2003. For the last fifteen years, I have explored many content management software apps including the heavy duty ones and light weight stuff. Earlier, I believed WordPress is just good for blogging but now, I am finding WordPress as an amazing CMS. It is pretty simple to make up and running. For startup, small businesses, why to invest heavily on CMS and WordPress is a good choice because of zero investment on license. As a startup founder, my primary concerns like easy to create, manage, and maintenance are met with WordPress. Plugin and theme library are awesome. Creating content and publishing over WordPress is simple. As most of the operations are drag and drop, we need not require any coding skills to create a website and this is just another beauty. Today, WordPress can even compete with other heavy duty content management solutions and I recommend this to anybody who wanted to create a website - personal or business.

Cons

WordPress is awesome and it is difficult to find any serious issue. However it is high time to find ways to manage support to plugin related issues. There were incidents of site crash upon installing some plugins and the only way is explore community. Fortunately, the WordPress community support is remarkable

### "WordPress- Amazing Web Page Technology"

November 5, 2019

5.0

We have deployed WordPress and it works side by side with our SharePoint implementation to provide information and links/support/documents/news to our users. Unlike SharePoint, this can be made to look very professional/attractive and I trained a few of our content creators on how to use it and they have really taken to it and made some amazing pages since we went live.

Pros

There are so many great and fun ways to create a compelling WordPress page, and many of the options are free and those that are paid for tend to be inexpensive. With so many powerful extensions, tools, themes, and ways to create anyone with some creativity and a willingness to learn how to use the user-friendly interface will be pleased with the results.

Cons

The only issue with this, and why I lowered my score a bit, is there isn't any single place to get support from. Many of the themes you purchase will come with support, thankfully, and there is nothing I've run into that can't be found online in terms of answers. But there are a lot of SKUs out there for different flavors of WordPress from Turnkey Linux to an installation on a Windows server. When it works, it's great, but when you need help it can be frustrating.

### "the best way to create a web in a simple way"

August 13, 2018

4.0

The experience has been good, I have learned without needing a third help, I consider it in a software that I can recommend without problem, but in my case it has brought me errors in its updates of the rest all excellent

Pros

Wordpress is a very good start for the first steps of a small company that wants to get to know without investing much, I like that initially you can get benefits with their free tools, I quite like it is easy to use software, easy to manage, cosidero that is quite good and has potential, when you opt for some of your options pays it turns out to be much better but in the same way its free interface gives a very good image. I think of anyone who has or does not have knowledge in the development of websites can easily do it through WordPress, it is a matter of researching a bit and going for good results In my case I quite like knowing that I can make changes myself without having to get help, it's a matter of trying and in a certain way you learn and save money, since what is web development is quite expensive. I consider it an excellent platform and recommended in my opinion 100%.

Cons

I think that in the negative come updates in which sometimes come big mistakes that affect many people and in a way this completely deconfigures what is an interface of a web page, this is something negative and that because of this can discourage users I have been using WordPress.com for about two years and I think that this is a disadvantage, in my case I have not used WordPress.org

### "It's the world's most popular CMS for a reason!"

June 20, 2018

5.0

Pros

I have been using WordPress for as long as I can remember. While it was original designed to a blogging platform, in recent years it's been developed significantly beyond this. Today the WordPress CMS can be used for many different websites, including e-commerce sites, information sites, online marking and of course, online blogs. Due to WordPress's familiar data structure it normally only takes a couple of hours for your website to be indexed in leading search engines such as Google and Bing. For blogs especially, where it's often important that content is indexed as quickly as possible, this is definitely a benefit. WordPress has a very clean and familiar user interface that requires little training and if there is a problem, the WordPress community are always on hand to help via the help forums and online groups. Overall, an example of a product which has a lot of attention from a very talented world-wide development team.

Cons

I feel the main disadvantage of WordPress is that it can become very large, very quick. As default, WordPress stores copies of any page content changes and if a non-technical user is given the ability to add plugins and styles, it can often result in a heavy user experience. WordPress does provide permission management solutions to resolve this, however, such a system is often not setup correctly.

### "Great for Blog website; more SEO friendly"

July 19, 2018

Highly Recommended for blogs. And, if you have less coding knowledge then WordPress is better for you.

Pros

I have a blogging website. I have made this website in WordPress platform with very few programming knowledge. This is a great platform for the beginner who have less coding experience. You can choose a perfect theme for your website from lot's of free features theme. Also, it would be better if you can use paid theme for your website. My WordPress website looks gorgeous and the interface is excellent. If your website is in WordPress then it would better to get positive result from your SEO investment. You can rank your WordPress website in search engines more easier then others. I like WordPress for its simplicity and excellency.

Cons

Worried about the security and plugin selection for my website. I think WordPress websites are less secured but not sure. Also ,there are many plugin in WordPress. SO, normally I feel hesitate to select plugins for my website.

### "Wordpress Lover for Life"

August 10, 2018

5.0

WordPress is our go-to web platform and CMS. We've used it to develop multiple websites with a wide array of functionality. Highly recommended.

Pros

From blog projects to intranets to large institutional websites, I recommend Wordpress as the go-to web development platform and content management system. It's robust and intuitive for non-tech users who just need to be able to simply manage and publish content. For web developers, it is endlessly customizable. The plug-in landscape provides just about any functionality you need, including e-learning, membership sites, e-commerce, and more. There is a reason Wordpress powers 30%+ of the internet; it's just that good.

Cons

There can be a learning curve for people who are less technically savvy--it's not a simple drag-and-drop back-end. Likewise, stability requires themes that are professionally developed and well coded. Essentially, the old programming rule--garbage in/garbage out--applies to Wordpress as well as anyplace else on the web.
