### "Essy to understand and easy to use."

February 27, 2026

5.0

I got on really well with WordPress as someone who used it for our online ordering system every day. It was simple and customers rarely had an issue placing their orders. I would use it again.

Pros

WordPress was our website host when i first began to be involved with the back end of the website. It was simple and worked for us as a website/ webshop. Orders were easy to understand and could be quickly categorised or actioned. Pictures and updates of products were simple to action. We did not have outside IT support at this time so all issues were fixed by the WordPress team themselves.

Cons

Although simple and user friendly, we were limited in what we could do using WordPress as our host. This was not an issue or even apparant until we wanted to redesign our website so was not an issue at the time of using it.

### "The King of CMS (If You Don't Mind the Drama)"

January 4, 2026

5.0

Value for Money - While the WordPress core software is open-source and free, calling it "free" is slightly misleading for a business context. To get a site performing at a professional level, budgets need to be allocated for high-quality hosting, a solid premium theme, and likely a few paid plugins for security or SEO. That said, even with these costs, the value proposition beats closed platforms where subscription fees can hike unexpectedly. You are paying for ownership and freedom. Customer Support - There is no 1-800 number for WordPress.org. For users expecting white-glove service, this can be a shock. However, the community support is the platform's greatest asset. Virtually every error code or conflict has been documented and solved by the community on forums or YouTube. If direct support is a must, it requires paying for a Managed WordPress host rather than relying on the software organization itself. Ease of Use & Page Editing - WordPress is a powerful operating system, not a simple drag-and-drop toy. There is a learning curve. The native Block Editor (Gutenberg) has improved significantly but can still feel clunky compared to proprietary website builders. Many professionals eventually bypass the default editor in favor of third-party page builders. Templates & Website Design - The repository offers thousands of themes, but quality varies wildly. Many "niche" themes look great in demos but break easily. Mobile Responsiveness - Out of the box, modern WordPress themes are fully responsive. Mobile issues rarely stem from the software itself but rather from user implementation—such as using non-responsive tables or oversized images. It handles mobile well, but it requires the user to audit their work on different devices. The "Elephant in the Room" (Company Politics) From a product standpoint, WordPress is solid. However, the recent friction between company leadership and third-party hosting providers has left a sour taste. The software remains excellent, and the community is resilient, but the current political climate at the top adds a layer of uncertainty that wasn't there in previous years. It’s a great product, but the governance drama is a valid concern for new users.

Pros

Unbeatable ecosystem and flexibility. The community is the best tech support in the world. You own your data completely; no platform lock-in.

Cons

Corporate politics and leadership drama are becoming a distraction. Requires a "DIY" mindset; no official support hotline. "Free" can become expensive once you add necessary premium plugins.

### "Simple, effective website creation, no code required "

December 2, 2025

5.0

I genuinely like the platform. There is a lot of support available. I love that I don't need to write code to have a great looking site.

Pros

I am using both options with WordPress. I have a blog on WordPress.com for the past 15 years and I created a website on a hosted WordPress server with GoDaddy. In both cases the setup was very easy, and I was up and running in a very short time. I am a huge fan of templates.

Cons

The difference between the two options is frustrating. The most frustrating part for me was the missing metrics in the hosted version.

I chose WordPress.com over Blogger for my blog because the WordPress blogs always looked better. I chose hosted WordPress over Website Builder because I liked my design options and plug ins better.

### "WordPress is the Premier Website Builder"

June 17, 2025

5.0

In my opinion, WordPress is the premier website builder and content management system. I wouldn't consider other products as none come close to the number of features and level of customization.

Pros

In my constantly changing industry, WordPress is so valuable because it allows nearly endless customization to fit my needs.

Cons

The thing I like least about WordPress is that it can be difficult to keep up with the number of updates required.

### "We left Wordpress for a simpler website building platform"

November 25, 2025

2.0

We found that Wordpress was difficult to use on the backend as someone with limited coding experience it was hard to make things look good on the front end and I was always afraid of breaking a feature by inserting the wrong code.

Pros

We left Wordpress for a website builder that offers more customer support and had better security features.

Cons

We hated having to manage all the widgets on the backend to add any features to our website. We also worried about the security issues for hackers to have access to our site between the templates and all of the widgets we had to use to make our site function it left a lot of vulnerable points. Also, it was hard to make the site look clean with the template we used and it was clunky to add simple updates.

### "You can't get much better even if it has issues sometimes!"

October 3, 2025

4.0

Overall my experience has always been great. There's been times when I have been frustrated with the platform but due to it's widespread use and open source nature, fixes are almost always readily available.

Pros

It's very easy to install with almost any hosting platform. It's also very easy to self host. Updates are easy and can even be set to auto install so that you can always have the latest security updates.

Cons

There are many vulnerabilities. This is mostly due to it's popularity as it powers more websites than any other platform. Sometimes it takes too long to have things patched but that is not always an issue with the core of WordPress. That could very well be an issue for the addon and theme devs.

### "Wordpress - Still the best"

December 8, 2025

4.0

I've been using it to build websites for more than 15 years. I am a content marketer not a developer, so sometimes I have worked with developers to code more advanced features I want. I like that Wordpress is not as limiting as some platforms like Wix and Squarespace. The options for Wordpress are nearly endless and it is possible to build a very unique site on WP.

Pros

I've used Wordpress for more than 15 years. In many ways, because so much has stayed the same, it remains a platform I find easy to use. However, that also depends on the theme. Some themes are really not intuitive and do not have great documentation for how to use them. Other forms are easy to navigate and have loads of help documents online. The ability to use different themes is what makes Wordpress such a valuable platform.

Cons

What I like least is the variability in quality of themes for Wordpress. Unlike Squarespace where all themes work the same, Wordpress themes vary significantly in how they work and how much help documentation is available.

### "A legendary platform. A 10/10 forever."

August 20, 2025

5.0

15 years and more than 80 projects successfully completed on WordPress. The most useful and unparalleled part is the vast knowledge base built around it, for years developers tinkered and built many useful plugins and addons and code well written so that we could get almost anything based on WordPress - stable and functional.

Pros

We are using WordPress for more than 15 years. Despite the new platforms and technologies, WordPress managed to stay afloat and deliver exceptional (and FREE) updates on a extremely useful service. Yes, there is Figma and many other solutions but the EASE OF USE is unparalleled. You can easily build a successful website, blog etc. In a short time even with low tech skills, by using the amazing and large knowledgebase. Highly recommend and easy to adapt to any purpose.

Cons

The plugins incompatibility with certain themes - but this is the side of plugins development teams. So I can't fault WordPress for almost anything much.

Reason for choosing WordPress

Wordpress is a step above in terms of knowledgebase and tutorials, plugins etc.

### "In a league of its own"

August 25, 2025

4.0

I run over 20 WordPress websites, and there is no doubt that Automattic is one of the greatest forces behind the democratisation of the internet. I recommend the GeneratePress template for a clean, flexible build.

Pros

As one of the few open source content management systems, WordPress is in a different league to other CMS options. Free to download, there is no better value for money. Since the inclusion of Gutenburg, WP has been easier to use. Woo Commerce is a fantastic plugin for ecommerce.

Cons

There is a frustrating bug at the moment which is affecting the scheduling of posts. The Gutenburg block system could also be improved with more sophisticated user controls.

### "Great Web Hosting Platform"

February 13, 2026

5.0

Overall, WordPress has been a solid web design option. I have recommended it both for larger organizations that are seeking to modernize its website, as well as family, friends, and freelance clients looking to set up an easy site.

Pros

I have recommended WordPress to a number of organizations that I have worked for and freelance clients, too. It offers a variety of solid templates for web design beginners that are easy to customize. For more advanced users, Wordpress can be an even more powerful tool, with an array of customization options and integrations. Over the years, I have particularly appreciated the Wordpress team's support with backing up data, setting up sites, and updating the platform for new browsers and devices.

Cons

The way that WordPress integrates with various domain hosting platforms can take some getting used to, but its customer support team tends to take the stress out of most difficulties.

### "Easy to use if you like basic layouts"

November 13, 2025

4.0

like how easy it is to use once the site is built. Building the site is a bit challenging as I am not a coder and if you want your site to look just a little bit different than what the template is you will have to know coding.

Pros

It's easy to make changes to my website. The templates are not the greatest as they expire after a while and you are forced to builing a new design for your site.

Cons

The templates expire without warning causing your site to look bad and some pages wont even load. once you get a new template installed all the font images and alignment are no longer correct. I don't like that every few years I have to completely rebuild my site.

### "Very versatile but difficult to use"

July 4, 2025

4.0

I commissioned the creation of an ad-hoc website and the result was very good. It was a real estate website, therefore quite complicated. I added some plugins for specific features. However, I had some issues, especially because it did not allow the creation and the integration of an xml feed, which for real estate is very basic.

Pros

WordPress is very versatile and it allows the creation of a very customised website. it works with many different themes and it offers a huge variety of plugins that can be implemented to add more features. Some are free, some require a payment, but they allow to add many different features to your website.

Cons

I find it very complicated to use. Unlike other website builder systems that are very easy to use even without any technical knowledge (or with a minimal one). to work with WordPress I had to hire a web designer, and this of course affects the costs.

Cons

### "A great platform for building websites"

August 19, 2025

5.0

I've been using WordPress for over 8 years and have helped countless businesses build the online footprint with robust custom built WordPress sites

Pros

I like the accessibility of WordPress and the community around the product. This website builder has an endless amount of options and allows a user to go as deep as they want to, or to get the job done as quickly as possible. That flexibility goes a long way.

Cons

In the beginning, educating myself about themes, plugins, how site storage works, image optimization, there can be a steep learning curve for all of the things you need to keep in mind.

### "Accessible web development for the masses"

June 29, 2025

5.0

Overall I have had a positive experience with Wordress over the years, I've developed, managed, run, troubleshooted, migrated many wordpress sites over the years and it has always been a trustworthy straightforward platform to work with.

Pros

Wordress has been the king of accessible web development for the masses. With wide 3rd party support and continuous development of the platform it has been the go to for a large part of the web. Wordpress is great in that it's capable of both simple and custom complex website and has a lot of support out there if you need it.

Cons

Being one of the most popular web platforms it also unfortunately becomes a large target for bots and hackers that will try to exploit security vulnerabilities, however luckily many of those concerns can be mitigated through various means.

### "Using WordPress for Chapter & P2P Websites is Easy!"

August 28, 2025

4.0

Pros

Our foundation got WordPress about 10 years ago to build our chapter websites. The look was good and the build was pretty straight forward. Since then are also using WordPress for one of our P2P program websites. The decision to use this, instead of another software we had, was for it's capability to create nice, clean, and stylish pages. We can create multiple templates and the pages are easy to edit. It works well our other software and has a good selection of API plugins. Also, it's cost, is minimal. We only pay for one plugin! Plus, customer support is pretty good. Overall, I would recommend WordPress for those wanting to create website that are easy to build and look great!

Cons

Only issue I have seen with WordPress is sometimes the syncing/updating of data on our WP pages, from our source software, can take some time.

### "WordPress - The Engine Behind Your Site"

May 28, 2025

4.0

Overall I have liked working with Wordpress which has been simple and powerful to use. Regardless of preferring Joomla or direct to PHP coding, I find that Wordpress is a simple platform for putting together websites and maintaining them.

Pros

Great all around web Content Management System to run websites and blogs online. Widely used by many Web designers and agencies.

Cons

While Wordpress is widely used it is not a complete system and does require enhancing by using plugins and extensions as well as design template. This can be a pro or a con but on the con side it does bloat the system and tends to affect performance.

Alternatives considered

### "What can't be done with WordPress?"

June 25, 2025

I love WordPress. I used it for a basic blog a zillion years ago and have built dozens of sites using it. I love that WordPress can make a simple and fast site for a brand new business - or can be full fledged and robust for a large company.

Pros

I love developing in WordPress - I love watching it grow and seeing new features added. It makes me excited to see all the things WordPress can do.

Cons

The WordPress community has been fracturing and Matt Mullenweg's behavior is concerning. I don't love worrying that a CMS I've been using for 20ish years could vanish due to his whims.

### "The Everything Platform for Your Website"

December 21, 2025

4.0

WordPress is a fantastic toolbox of opportunity to customize and scale a website with consistency. While it may not be the best tool for beginners, it is very easy to self teach.

Pros

We have full control over content, but it is organized with more structure and flexibility to appear where needed on the site. Reusable page structure templates that we can customize makes it easy for there to be consistency across the site. The template marketplace is robust and makes it easy to pick and maintain a style with all functionality handled, including robust plugin support.

Cons

It can be easy to get lost in the sea of options available to customize the site. Often you may be searching "where / how to change \_\_\_\_ in WordPress" but luckily there is robust community support and documentation. Sometimes depending on who you work with to develop, they may need you to work with a seperate tool for editing (like Elementor), which adds another layer.

We're glad to have a professional looking website without any coding involved. WordPress also provides lots of flexibility and customization with their websites.

Pros

What I love best about Wordpress are the plugins. If there is something you want to be able to do with your website, you can usually find it through a plugin.

Cons

Because there is so much you can do with WordPress, sometimes it can be confusing to know where to look to make changes to your website that you are wanting to happen. However this all depends on the type of theme you use.
