Pros: Logos is really incredible. It places thousands of resources at your fingertips and has them all cross-referenced and indexed. I don't know of another program that has this level of intertextuality built into the program. You can follow links and references to the works they were citing. You can build searches on top of searches. This is a one-stop-shop library program and powerful language tool all in one.

They are constantly upgrading and adding features to keep Logos cutting edge. Their language tools are rapidly catching up to their competitors and there are more things possible that I am even aware of. I probably only know how to use about 15% of this software, but the benefits it brings are astronomical.

I love that they are also expanding into the classics field with Not and other resources. I hope their language tools in Latin will improve to match what they have in Greek.

Cons: Logos is not cheap. At all. All of their resources cost significantly more than what they would cost in print. Add in the fact that I don't like reading on a screen, and I retain information far better when I can deal with the geography of a book, and that makes it a losing proposition. Their bundles inflate book numbers with filler junk that you will never use, and would never want. You will be oversold resources and features that you will never use.

Pros: Logos dramatically cuts down the amount of time I spend writing sermons each week by compiling all the resources I need in one location. Not only that, but with the fairly recent addition of the Sermon Builder component, my message slides can be automatically generated and inserted into Proclaim, Faithlife's presentation software. This saves this small-church pastor some valuable time while still delivering an excellent end result.

Cons: The biggest con with Logos is the price. However, I believe it has more than paid for itself in the last 10 years of ministry.

Overall: It would be hard to imagine my sermon preparation without Logos. From looking up number of occurrences of words, to research in the original languages, to having dozens of commentaries at my fingertips, Logos helps me consistently present well-researched messages in a fraction of the time it would take to do manually.

Sean, thank you for this. We love seeing people take advantage of the sermon builder and its integration with Proclaim. We're working on some great features to take this even further.

Also, make sure you check out our new website builder at https://sites.faithlife.com. If you publish your sermon to https://sermons.faithlife.com, it will automatically appear on your Faithlife Site.

We're trying to remove more pain points for pastors of small churches. We hear you have a few things on your plate. =)

Pros: This review is for Logos Bible Software, NOT for Proclaim

Logos simply has the largest library available for the student. The number of tools that are available are (honestly) overwhelming, but the experienced user can master these tools quickly. It is possible to easily get lost in the weeds with Logos because the weeds are so easily gotten to. However, sometimes chasing a rabbit down its hole is worth it!

Cons: It can easily get very expensive. I would recommend buying sets you want or only investing in a library if just about everything it contains is something you want to add to your library. It may be more expensive to purchase individual books, but you won't get hundreds of resources you don't want/need.

Overall: Logos is great for developing sermons and lesson plans!

Vendor Response

by Faithlife Corporation on October 12, 2018

Gregory, thank you for this review. We appreciate it. You're correct. Purchasing libraries is definitely more cost effective than the individual titles.

If you're ever considering a larger purchase, don't hesitate to call in to our team. We're happy to help crunch the numbers and recommend the most cost-effective way to add the resources you're looking at to your library.

Pros: I like the availability and practicality of the material. There are many valuable resources available there. Also, they are always offering new content and it is perceptive that they want to cover many books that are important in the field of biblical studies and theology. There is also a discount program for students, which has been helpful to get essential sources for a less high price.

Cons: More advanced research is still tricky. By contrast, there are many features that are possible to achieve with Bible Works that are not possible in Logos. For example, Logos is not helpful when I want to research specific lemmas and common phrases within the Hebrew Bible. It is still very dependent on traditional, though important, lexicons and theological dictionaries. It is not versatile and dynamic, though. In that case, the advanced reader needs to combine logos with Bible Works. Both are, however, very expensive.

Pros: Love the fact that you can search across all resources and instantly pull those resources up in the links - basically like wikipedia. Saves so much time in searching out important resources. The portability of a library is also great. Being able to pick up where you left off on one device is also super useful. The extensive tools for studying the original languages are also incredibly useful - even if it takes a few hours to learn them all.

Cons: Slows down your computer a lot if it isn't powerful enough. Some things are not as intuitive as could be hoped, but fortunately there are really good Youtube channels to explain how to use it. The mobile app doesn't have/allow for the reading out loud option.

Overall: Financially, buying logos was challenging, but the reward was a great variety of tools. Don't buy beyond what you will use, however. Lot's of things look great, but you'll only ever use a fraction of it.

Pros: I keep finding more and more things on there I didn't know where there! I found an entire course (with the workbook, grammar, vocabulary, and video lectures) by Mounce on Greek that i was planning to spend $150 for! I love the resources for bible translators.

Cons: It is kind of hard to figure out. The tutorials are good, but also very long, many, and annoyingly slow. Also, it is very good technology so it runs super slow on old computers. I feel like since it's mainly text-based things, it should find a way to have less things running at once. Also, for many Bible Translators who work in areas with bad internet, the fact that it constantly updates itself is annoying and expensive.

Overall: I first started using this as a bible translator and was provided it by my organization. Unfortunately, my old computer was very slow and logos caused the computer to run so slow I was unable to use it. However, with my new computer it works great! I use it regularly in my own Bible study and in my work.

Pros: I read a book by Randy Alcorn called Money, Eternity, and Possessions about how Christians hoard books and do not get them back into circulation, and I made a decision to build an electronic library instead of the libraries I grew up with as a kid. As a biblical counselor and a passion for discipleship evangelism, this allows me to have reproducible tools at my finger tips and the ability to create quality lessons and materials with hours of work and paying retail.

Cons: Sometimes the pre-pubs can hit without notice otherwise great product.

Overall: It is one of my favorite bible tools for discipleship evangelism and with the latest editions of Jeff Vanderstelt materials, it went over the top!!! Highly recommend.

Pros: Logos opens up a huge world of exploration when it comes to studying scripture, and goes even further with complex highlighting and notation features, sermon editor and prep guides, and more. There is really nothing else like it, and I feel lucky to live in an era where this depth of study is possible at the tips of my fingers. People even just a few short decades ago could only dream of being able to access so much information in such dynamic and "smart" ways made possible by modern technology.

Cons: The biggest drawback is price. It is extremely expensive when you start looking at larger resource packages, and just to unlock all the features of the software. To make matters worse, the amount of different pricing tires and resource packages is dizzying. I understand they want to be flexible for different denominations and offer multiple price points of entry for different budgets, but deciding on a package is quite an undertaking that can take hours to sort out if you are at all worried about spending less than $10,000.

Pros: The way the software developer packaged so many features together on a platform is amazing.

In same manner, the quick search mode is linguistically loaded for beginners and advanced users.

Coupled with suggestions for quick word references is another icing on the cake.

The tracking percentages of respective books is also a side attraction.

Cons: Anyway, there are some features that are needed to be worked upon.

1. If the interactive surface is simplified the more.

2. A program that will be relaunched on the same platform whereby you have logged off is better for continuity in study.

Overall: This product has made me to be more observant of things the more. Especially, all the daily applications that are essential for self development and office organization.

Pros: TONS of resources. It's got commentaries, dictionaries, lexicons, ebooks, and on and on. I mostly use it for the commentaries. You can search passages, and get all kinds of resources that pop up. You can also search topics, and get incredible info there, too. They also have a store where you can buy more resources, and they give away free books every month.

Cons: There is so much that Logos does, that what I use it for only scratches the surface of all it's capabilities. There are training videos that you can pay for to learn how to do more, but it would be nice to find some free resources to train me on how to do more. If there are free trainings, I don't know about them.

Also, it is very expensive. I was able to get an incredible discount on mine almost 10 years ago, but to buy it outright is far more than I'd be willing to spend.

Overall: I really like Logos Bible Software. I love being able to access so many commentaries in one place. I just wish I knew how to do more with it, because I know it has so much more to offer.

An investment, but definitely worth it.

Pros: Gives me access to more resources than I could ever use, dramatically enriching my Bible study while saving tremendous time.

Cons: It is expensive to purchase and keep upgraded.

Overall: I have been using Logos for 15 years, and it keeps getting better. The library I have available to me enables me to learn God's Word and teach it better than I could have done without it.

Although it is quite an investment, it has been worth it for me. Would highly recommend it!

My only caution would be to wait until after seminary to purchase it. I found myself relying too heavily on its tools while learning the original languages, so I didn't learn them as well as I should have. Would recommend waiting until you have a good handle on the languages before you purchase it.

Pros: Where to start? The amount of resources at the top of your finger and all in one place? The books, commentaries, and other resources that come with the base package is worth much more than what you pay. They have almost every book you would purchase on Amazon and then you can have those tools open with multiple translations of Bibles, and whatever commentaries you want to use. I write sermons using Logos and they have tools that help with that as well!

Cons: I wish the interface was a bit more user friendly, but I have been told by many they really like it, so it might just be me.

Logos is an invaluable tool for my ministry.

Pros: Logos allows me to write sermons with greater depth in less time by bringing all my resources in one place. With the recent addition of the Sermon Builder and integration with Faithlife Proclaim, my workflow has been streamlined even further as I can now write it, build slides, and export them without ever having to leave Logos.

Cons: It is pricey. I was able to purchase it at a significant discount while a student, but it can get expensive quickly. I would still say it is worth the investment!

Overall: Helps me deepen my walk with Christ, my messages, and recover my time.

Pros: Logos is a vast software. It allows me to access my library with a few clicks and saves me hours of time in research (or to be honest, it allows me to do research that I would otherwise skip). The functionality of the Logos apps allows me to study on my mobile device even when I am on the road.

Cons: The vastness is also one of Logos' drawbacks. This program huge and there are literally 2 day seminars to teach you how to use it. I will never use anywhere close to its full functionality. It also requires a very fast PC/MAC to run well.

Pros: -It is extremely easy to use.

-In your library, contains a very large amount of literary resources that provide the user with the best approach to the Bible.

-It has the best known and used translations of the sacred scriptures.

-Contains titles of the most prestigious Christian publishing houses.

-It can be used to develop the tasks of biblical study, be it personal, pastoral or even academic studies.

-The tools you have and the information you provide does not have any other software.

Cons: -If you can mention one aspect to improve this application, without a doubt it would be its price because it can be somewhat expensive for some people. Despite this, it should be noted that the quality of the product is extremely high and that it is worth every dollar invested in this application.

Pros: The Logos App is easily the best Bible app I've ever used. From the early days, with its stiff interface and difficult switching between documents, to now a seamless transition between multiple windows of varying documents. In addition to these latest upgrades that make its UI much more intuitive and like a web-browser, the added functionality of being able to lookup a word in its original Greek or Hebrew language by merely highlighting the word or phrase is outstanding and not found in its competitors.

Cons: Two gripes - (1) No access to the NIV. Understandably a money issue with Zondervan, but still it would be nice to have in its collection of translations. (2) I wish more translations or documents were available offline. When I'm in a plane or somewhere without data, I am stuck with two or three very dated translations.

Pros: The features are fabulous and the quality is excellent. Customer support is great if you need help. The program offers a wide range of resources and information for the user. You can add to the library as you go at your own pace.

Cons: Can be overwhelming to use at first, even for those with some technical background in using software programs. The pricing could be better in my personal opinion so more people can access the program content.

Overall: The benefits of using Logos is wonderful. Once you become oriented to what it has to offer and how to access it quickly - it becomes a gold mine of information to help you in your personal walk of faith, Biblical studies, and to create content to help others.

Pros: Logos Bible Software is awesome. This is the gold standard for pastors, scholars, and lay persons to study Scripture and discern its deeper meaning. Pros: You receive A LOT of resources depending on what package you buy. You have access to an extensive digital library.

Cons: The learning curve for utilizing Logos is steep. For the amount of money you pay for the software, the free training should be better and more extensive. The IPad app is not fully functional. Most of the resources the give you will go unused because you will have no idea how to use them unless you invest copious hours in the software

Overall: I have access to a plethora of resources to aid me in study and preparation. It would be the equivalent of having a personal research assistant - a very confused and tedious one - but a personal research assistant none the less.

Pros: Who doesn't like having their entire library right at their finger tips? I work at coffee shops a lot during the week to prep for teachings and sermons and carrying around a bunch of large commentaries or dictionaries really gets old (and attracts a lot of unwanted attention). But with Logos, I can have my entire library sitting right in my lap!

Pros: The language tools, in particular the Greek and Hebrew interlinear features that enable you to see what original language words were used, and quickly find their definitions.

I like having a number of commentaries available at the click of the button (much faster than having to pull them from the shelf; and easier when it comes time to move as well!).

Cons: The cost for a good set is very expensive.

Also, sometimes it can be challenging to remember how to do certain functions (such as export verse lists to Word, or execute various search functions).

Overall: It gives me deeper understanding of the Bible as I use the original language tools, and access to great commentaries, bible dictionaries, and other resources all on my computer so I can dive deeper into something I am wanting to learn more about.

Pros: The logos team gets 5 stars for functionality. It has so many features that are extremely useful. For anyone who is studying theology, it is a total must. It needs some training to get used to the software, but it is such a good place to get so many resources in one place and to compare findings. Googling commentaries often leads to personal journals, blogs and Bible Studies, so having a trusted place to find so many resources is like going to the Biblical section in a library. Being able to easily compare Biblical translations is also an extremely useful tool.

Cons: While this software is packed with features, the design is a big old school. It is definitely not intuitive and requires quite a bit of training in order to really get accustomed to the system.

Pros: Logos has been a go-to program for my personal study as a pastor for well over a decade. From their word-studies to the available commentaries, Logos is the one stop shop when it comes to Bible-study applications.

One of the greatest aspects about Logos is they have changed with the times. Since much of my studies and research is not accomplished in my church office, I now can access these tools on my phone, tablet or laptop.

If you are new to Logo, begin with the FREE Logo 7-Basic. I truly believe you will find their resources as helpful as I have.

Cons: Because Logos has so much to offer (i.e., original languages, courses, lexicons, commentaries, sermons, journals and multiple translations), getting to know the flow of the software can be a bit overwhelming at first. However, it is rather user-friendly and intuitive.

Overall: Logos provides all the necessary resources available for accurate and in-depth study of the Bible at your finger-tips. The greatest benefit is having the resources available at any moment on my tablet or phone. This is a must-have tool for anyone studying the Bible for personal benefit, or teaching others.

Pros: Logos is very sophisticated and can do many things. The books that are available for the system are tremendous. Extensive searching functions make it easier to find information.

Cons: Logos is very expensive and it seems that they want you to do a full upgrade every year. It is difficult to use the more advanced functions although simple tasks are easy enough. It consumes a ton of resources on my computer so I cannot have too many things open at one time.

Cons: Not always the most intuitive interface. Would like to see better online help features and tutorials.

Overall: My study of scripture has improved exponentially.

I have been using is for years and it has become essential to my sermon preparation

Pros: I like that I can access what I want whenever and wherever! I like that I can set goals, read daily devotionals, and have access to books that I would typically have to purchase individually.

Cons: The least I like about this software is the efficiency in reading scripture as far as keeping track of where you last read.

Pros: The platform is extensive and perfect for the serious bible student. Incredible resource library.

Cons: The only draw back to Logos is the cost of the books in the resource library. The cost will likely hinder many from purchasing.

Overall: Great resource with a massive resource library that makes sermon prep and bible study easy and time saving.

Logos is crazy powerful and has a massive database, but can be tough to navigate at first.

Pros: Logos has been a huge help both in my graduate studies and my ministry. The team at Logos has done the hard work of compiling and digitizing a vast library of resources and packaged it in a way that allows pastors and students to find and cite what they need quickly both for academic and ministerial use.

Cons: Logos has a big learning curve for the advanced features. If you are simply wanting to look up a Bible passage and some commentary, it is easy, but if you want to dig deeper into the feature list, it will definitely take some study and practice. I have seen that Logos is highly customizable, it just takes some time to get it set how you want it.

This is the overall best Bible software on the market in terms of books, features, and ease of use.

Pros: The software has a deep catalogue of books to add to the software package. The software is also feature rich and easily to use.

Cons: The software is costly for initial acquisition if one wants to have a descent library of books. Also, the program is slower than the competition.

Pros: This software is very in depth and integrated. All library books are fully searchable. The language tools are fairly easy to use. The customizable workspaces make it easy to set the appearance of the application to suit your specific needs. I have one set up for Greek language study and another for a commentary analysis.

Cons: The price of Logos is well beyond that of its competitors but you get what you pay for. I continue to update the base package but do not expand my library.

Overall: One stop location for all of my Bible study and language tools. It simplifies the process of creating Bible studies and drastically cuts preparation time.

Pros: This is just the best program to study the bible. I love how my favorite books of theology, Bible dictionaries and commentaries are all in the same place. I can select a work and see all the inline search between my library's content and the passage i am reading. I can have so much depth on the translations, maps, culture perspective and political perspective. I really love the Psalms presentation, it let's me search psalms thru authors, themes and more!

Once you open the program it give you a sort of dashboard were there is helpful links to tutorials and special blog themes. Everyday opening Logos is like opening a new piece of mind! I am literally mind blowned!!

Cons: It can be very overwhelming with all the options that it has. It does has some learning curve and i wish it had a night mode in the program it self.

Overall: There is never a dull moment using this program

Pros: The number of resources and the features that Logos makes available is astounding! There is just about nothing that you cannot do in terms of Bible study with this software.

Cons: It's a resource hog. I have to close down almost everything else and it still runs slowly.

Each new version (which is often - that's a good thing!) means a whole process of figuring out the cost of the upgrade. Often you have to purchase something else which means it's a constant financial drain - and that's not even thinking about the temptation to buy more resources whenever I use it!

Overall: It is my go-to software when I need to do in depth study.

Pros: If you are starting out in ministry or in depth bible study for other reasons, this software is a great way to gain a large library for a fraction of the cost. The search functions and versatility are amazing. There is a lot that can be done with it so you have to be willing to invest in learning how to use it, but they provide a lot of resources to do that including online videos.

Cons: Packages with larger libraries and more resources are a major investment. Individuals with an already large library will likely not find this software as good of a deal.

Pros: When I want to get a meaning of a specific word in the Bible, I have used Logos a lot. I am not done with COSS yet, and this program gets me ahead of the game with interpretation of scripture. I love using Logos!

Cons: Like with Evernote, I do not see a lot of weaknesses with this program at all. I know local pastors and elders in our Conference who use this program all the time.

Overall: The main benefit I get from this software is knowledge into scripture that I could not gain in other ways, forms, or mediums. I enjoy this program!

Pros: By far the most amazing part of Logos is the ability to transport your library of books with you wherever you go. Their app works well, so you have the ability to read, cross reference, or check something as long as you have your phone. The software remembers where you left off in a book and opens it right back to that spot. The word search feature is helpful, as are the exegetical tools. In someways, there is almost too many things that Logos can do for you!

Cons: The number one problem is that Faithlife is always upgrading the Logos platform and offering you 'upgrades' and 'new packages' of material. Fortunately you previous materials all transfer over the new system, but at times you get confused about what version you have versus what the latest version is and if you have to pay for this upgrade or if it is a free upgrade. This comes from a good place--they are always

This is a very powerful tool!

Pros: There is SO much that Logos can do. If you are in ministry and spend lots of time studying the Bible, you absolutely need Logos. It enhances your study by a lot. Working with Biblical languages (Hebrew and Greek) are so much easier with Logos. You can even add extra resources to Logos if the basic isn't enough for you.

Cons: I wasn't lying when I said Logos has and does everything. The problem with this is that it runs so, so slow on your computer. Worth the extra patience though.

Overall: This opens a lot of doors when it comes to studying the Bible!

Pros: I appreciate the breadth of resources; the special collections (i.e., Reformed/Baptist/etc. focus packages); access to theological journals; and the assimilation of all your resources for amazingly fast searches. I also really appreciate the mobile apps.

Cons: The app will sometimes lag or hang; and it is a very large program, so it takes a lot of disk space on my computer. The collections, while nice, are also expensive -- at least equal to the cost of printed books. The convenience, though, usually outweighs the cost.

Pros: Opening Logos leads to a nearly intimidating array of resources, form Early Church Fathers to more recent writers. Whether I am trying to source the etymology of a word or research the typology of a verse, Logos offers me a powerful suite of ever-expanding resources. When preaching, I am more eloquent and clear as I can better research my topics. Logos is a great value for what it offers.

Cons: Logos can be a bit intimidating to first learn to navigate, but the more I used it, the more comfortable I became with its layout and structure. I wish it also had the ability to source resources by the Christian denomination of the author.

Overall: Logos allowed me to enrich my writing and speaking by offering powerful resources.

Pros: First of all, Logos has been around for nearly as long as I can remember. I recall my father purchasing Logos in the 80s and they are still pioneering software based Bible study today. Logos offers a few different levels of service depending on the desired depth of study and with each level is included a very extensive library of additional resources that I have found very helpful in year past. Even the free version includes a generous amount of available resources. They have also done a lot of work in recent years to make the software even more powerful and attractive. It also provides a VERY neat new citation tool when you are referencing sources and it will automatically format the reference for your paper!

Cons: It wasn't the most attractive software to use, but what it lacked in appearance it makes up with usefulness.

Pros: My favorite feature is the Strong's concordance implementation, which allow me to study word by word and get the Hebrew and Greek original meaning which can give a whole new perspective to the verses.

Cons: I really cannot find a negative side for the software, I could say it is expensive but I guess its price it is somewhat reasonable for all that it offers

Overall: If you are really into studying the bible, Logos is probably the best software tool at the moment. You get bible translations, maps, images, and a lot of historical data.

Pros: Massive amounts of content (unmatched by any other program you could spend money on).

Endless options when it comes to digging into passages. You can look up original languages/word studies/historical content/cross references.

Factbook is like wikipedia for anything Bible. Interlinear ribbon allows you to have more information as you read through passages than most people know what to do with.

The pros of this overall program are too many to list. If you are looking for the greatest tool ever for deeper understanding of scripture this is it.

Cons: This program is not cheap. Even the cheapest level you can come in at is pricy.

It takes a ton of time to really figure out what you can do with this program. There is so many options and helps and books to access, this isn't a load up and run program.

For many people the program might even be overkill. If you only preach every now and then, are not a student of the Bible and hate reading this won't be for you.
