I have loved . I've used almost all of the big payroll/HR systems and Gusto is head and shoulders above the rest. Easy to use, awesome automations, great at gathering feedback, makes sense, and more.

is awesome! Easiest HR system I've used. Super simple and straightforward. Has great workflows. Is so easy to understand and access as a user.

Cons

I honestly don't have any complaints about . I've had a couple of login issues before, but nothing big stands out.

has been a sigh of relief, making managing my team easier than ever. The ability to upload updates to policies and procedures and have them signed on off has taken the leg work out of making changes.

Pros

The ability to easily upload documents for employees to sign. The ability to easily approve and deny paid time off requests. To ability to manage employee hours & pay, has helped streamline and manage many aspects for our small business.

Cons

I am not a fan of the inability to submit time off requests if hours are not in the bank. At my business we utilize time off accrual and if the hours are not there even if they will be at the time for the request it will not allow you to request that time.

### "I'm a small business with two owners"

I'm a small business with two owners, we're beyond fed up with . I wish I could leave no stars. This is not a one-off issue; it has happened every single year, and this year was the final straw. Gusto once again withdrew money from my business account without authorization, despite me explicitly handling my own tax payments and clearly stating, in writing, that I did not approve the withdrawal. This time, Gusto sent a message saying they would pull $756 at 17:00 PM. I responded within 30 minutes, clearly objecting and stating I do not authorize tax payments through Gusto. Despite that, the money was pulled less than 24 hours later. No consent. No signed authorization. No meaningful opportunity to stop it. When I pushed back two days later, I was told the money had already been remitted and that I now have to chase a government agency (I'm assuming the IRS, but who knows, they wont tell me) by myself to attempt a refund. Gusto takes no responsibility and simply shrugs once the money is gone. Gusto’s actions continuously creates unnecessary financial strain and wasted time. Their explanation is always the same: confusing, bureaucratic, and designed to shift blame back onto the customer. The platform itself is misleading. You think you have control over tax payments, you don’t. Gusto will pull funds anyway, then hide behind process and timing excuses when called out. This is unprofessional, and frankly unacceptable for a payroll company that handles people’s livelihoods. I am done. I am moving my business to Paychex, a company that understands authorization, accountability, and basic respect for its customers’ money. If you value control over your finances and don’t want to fight the same battle year after year, look elsewhere.

Pros: Employees were paid on time during the years I used . There really isn't any more pros. its hard to get ahold of someone when you have a problem. which for me is every year.

Cons

Everything else. Hidden fees and they pull funds to cover "taxes" even if you handle taxes separately.

In the beggining it was okay, now customer service and response is abysmal.. I cannot get a response without doing things like this.

Pros

They seemed to have an easy and effective setup this was a lie. In the begging they responded quickly to chat only to never respond to anything short of escalations

Cons

They lie about forms and tax filing so that they cause loss of money to the company. They claim i filled out a w-4 which they used to determine the tax witholding but they lied about it

The interface of is attractive, simple and user-friendly. It keeps track of your time, pay-periods and take home pay well, letting you know when to anticipate pay days.

Cons

At times, the app can feel slow or experience errors. While I love the trotting pig, it feels like a bit of a wheel-of-doom and I find myself needing to close out and re-open the app. The other issue I have is with the time-off feature. It doesn't always load, so you need to close + reopen, and then when submitting the time it can revert from "PTO" to "Sick Leave" without you noticing until it's been submitted.

### "Great payroll system for small businesses and nonprofits"

We have been using for payroll for several years now and it has made our payroll process very easy. We are a small nonprofit with only a handful of paid employees, but they work from home in multiple states and Gusto made that all simple to setup and manage.

Pros

is straightforward and easy to set up, provides simple-to-use tools for running payroll, and is one of the least expensive solutions available to small businesses.

Cons

It was tricky to get fully integrated with our preferred timekeeping system. Additionally, user roles and permissions cannot be customized, so you must choose from a small set of pre-configured roles - but these were sufficient for our use.

Overall, it's a great platform to manage payroll and benefits, although sometimes prices seem a bit high for the quality of providers/carriers.

Pros

Good employee management and benefits management, although the offer of carriers is not as wide as other providers/brokers. It's easy to use although sometimes it takes longer to load and continue to next sections, but overall it's great for small businesses and start-up. It also provides an extensive and descriptive way to manage users and permissions.

Cons

Customer support is good but sometimes it takes too long to solve an issue because I keep on getting redirected to a new 'specialist' on the topic.

I'd recommend to even the smallest of businesses. It simplifies Payroll and Human Resources, it bundles a lot of useful tools such as onboarding, and its scalable.

Pros

is relativley easy to use. Its intuitive interface is very user friendly granting forward access to setting up and managing payroll, onboarding, and benefits.

Cons

Customer support with can be slow and sometimes not helpful. The mobile app is also not very inclusive, you have to log in on a web based computer to effectively manage.

My whole company uses to pay our employees/staff. The app allows us to deposit our pay to our bank accounts instantly. It also allows us to store some of our pay into a savings account.

Pros

I like the notification on Monday mornings letting me know i got paid!! I get 100 notifications about things I need to do, and bills I need to pay. This the one notification I get that is a positive.

Cons

I don't have any complaint about . It's really easy to use. It's a very simple process. The money gets deposited into my account with ease.

is easy to use, and have customer support that respond rather quickly. It provides great help to small business management that do not want to invest a lot of money to do their payroll. It makes employee management smooth as it can separate regular employees to independent contractors.

Being in HR, using a platform like was very helpful as everything is one place. I found it quite easy to process payroll and onboard new employees. I only have 3 locations that I had to cover but it made it easy to switch between different locations. As well as offering the different ways to label the employees and make sure the correct tax documents were associated with the correct person.

Cons

I felt as though anytime I needed something through customer support, it would be someone who does not truly understand the situation or they did not speak english. I had no issues with time management and getting them on the phones as they would call right away but even with that, sometimes I did not get my issues resolved

made it easy to clock in and out for my shifts, and it was nice to be able to track both my hours and pay for that pay period. It also was smooth and easy to view previous pay period information, as well as tax information at the end of the year. I actually was also able to log in and pull tax information from previous years long after I had left that employer. I think Gusto is a great software to use coming from the side of an employee and would highly recommend!

Pros

I used as an employee at a previous employer and it was great! Super easy to use, the app ran smoothly with no issues or glitches. It was fast and simple to clock in and out, and easy to see and track my hours and pay!

Cons

For what I used it for I didn’t have any cons. It was easy to download from a link the employer emailed and simple to set up and use.

It's simplistic - which makes it simple especially for ICA. The straightforwardness of the platform allows for basic functionality for payroll without the bells and whistles that oftentimes gets confusing on previous platforms that were used in the 90's and 00's

Cons

With it being simplistic, there are some features, especially for organizational purposes that would be helpful. Also an API with Google Drive would be an amazing feature to have in my opinion.

Pros

There is a mobile app as well as a website. Can easily edit times if needed and give an explanation to your supervisor why you needed to make an edit. Can easily view paystubs and tax forms.

Cons

Sometimes the website and the app are a little slow. Can have perfect service and not a lot of people trying to clock out at the same time and the little pig just sits there and continues to walk.

### "User-friendly, but unreliable payroll app"

Pros

When the system worked, it worked well and had good functionality. I would say its biggest strength is the variety of reports and customization available.

Cons

We often had the platform go down at random times, and the support team was not very helpful. For instance, the card we had on file to pay our subscription expired, so the whole system went down. No one contacted us to let us know that was the problem, or we could have solved it before losing access to the system. Also, lacked the scheduling and employee communication tools that we found in another system.
