### "An Excellent Fit for Small Businesses"

April 15, 2021

5.0

Gusto is an excellent payroll and employee management tool for small and medium sized businesses who need and want to implement a formalized employee program, without the need to create cumbersome internal systems or relying on outmoded communications tools.

Pros

Gusto makes it very easy for a small business to take on the highly regulated employee management. From onboarding and ensuring policies are distributed and we have collected records of receipt and signatures, to the ability to send care packages to our distributed workforce, our administrators and employees feel more in control.

Cons

While Gusto's interface is easy to navigate, toggling between administrator and employee view causes confusion sometimes.

### "Payroll Prep is Handled!"

September 24, 2023

5.0

I have used Gusto for my small business for more than five years. The customer service is excellent. They look out for their customers by offering add-on products to help and support businesses.

Pros

Onboarding features, payroll, tax, and W-2 preparation.

Cons

Of the features I use, I haven't found anything I do not like.

Reason for choosing Gusto

Gusto offers value for its pricing, and its onboarding features are what drew me.

### "Best DIY software in the payroll market"

January 6, 2021

5.0

I have been using Gusto for for a couple of years now and love it. They are consistently working on improving and seek guidance from their partners. Like with any software, there are funny little quirks that you get to know. Overall, it is a fantastic platform.

Pros

Gusto's self-onboarding and employee communication is leaps and bounds ahead of their competition, as is their clean, user-friendly interface.

Cons

Customer service has been struggling recently. There should be a way to have a salary that doesn't change when the hours are changed. The other downside is that if there is an error, you have to void the entire payroll. An option to void a single check would be a great improvement.

### "Review!"

May 9, 2021

5.0

Gusto is reasonably priced and the customer service is EXCELLENT, especially compared to our old system. Everything about it is intuitive or clearly explained, answers are easy to find, and overall it's quick and very pleasant to use.

Pros

Gusto is so clean, simple, intuitive, and encouraging. They build in a workflow that is easy to understand and includes celebratory "You did it!" or "We'll take care of this next part!" tidbits. Customer service is quick and literally always solves the problem in a friendly, affable way. Plus it's affordable, and the little pig mascot is cute.

Cons

Nothing. Gusto is wonderful. I recommend this to everyone.

Switched from

[Paychex Flex](https://www.capterra.com/p/119841/Paychex-Flex/)

Paychex customer service was awful. The prices were similar, but getting questions answered was a nightmare, as was wrapping up paperwork following a termination. We have employees in multiple states and Paychex constantly seemed to struggle with managing that even though it's pretty common? Our lives got way easier after switching to Gusto.

### "Great for payroll"

March 8, 2022

4.0

It's great for payroll. We don't pay for the leave management or other items because it is too expensive, but the payroll features are great.

Pros

Gusto is great for it's payroll and benefits platform. They do exactly as they say they are going to do and take care of all tax liabilities on time, with no concern of being wrong or late.

Cons

Their customer service is terrible. You typically get a representative that tells you the same thing that is in their knowledge base and then can't escalate you to talk to someone actually knowledgeable but can request a call back. The call backs don't happen and you receive an email, which typically doesn't answer your question because the initial representative didn't pass along the information correctly.

### "Helpful and functional"

May 20, 2023

5.0

As I mentioned in the 'pros' section: Having everything in one place is convenient and saves time. It seems like they have a good team of developers who work towards solving the minor problems that crop up. Overall positive experience!

Pros

There haven't been any hurdles or problems and it fits our needs well. It saves our HR staff some time, and it's helpful to have everything in one platform. I would hate to have multiple silo sites/portals, so I am thankful that I don't have to navigate to separate pages to handle reimbursement requests, file and log worked hours for the week, view paystubs, etc.

Cons

There aren't too many cons. There are some minor problems:One would be that I can't explain how many times I have logged a time for a day using the 'time tracking' tool (filling out the hour range + description) only to accidentally make a click outside of that box and have it disappear and lose all my work. It happens at least once a week, making logging time take twice as long sometimes. Another minor problem our workplace has run into is that we don't need some employees to enter in a 'description' field in the time tracking tool, but it is a required field. It would be helpful if the admin could set which fields are required in time tracking entries.

Generally positive!

Pros

Gusto is EASY to use. Payroll is easier than ever before and it is a very affordable product. I also love that I can send new hires a link and they have immediate access to all onboarding materials.

Cons

Customer support was very accessible our first six months with Gusto, but has been very difficult to reach since. Often, an emailed support ticket won't get a response for 1-2 weeks.

### "Gusto is an easy payroll solution "

October 21, 2022

5.0

overall gusto has been a great experience, it's made payroll easy, it's made employee onboarding simple, and it allows me to focus my time on more important stuff with minimal headaches

Pros

It is very easy to maintain especially for companies that are smaller and can't afford to have a dedicated payroll person. It's allowed me as the program manager to easily do payroll, put in sick time, and do other HR type stuff as well

Cons

The main thing that i would like to see, is a feature where you can bulk update employees hours worked. like i record my employees time, and they work the same hours every day so i would love to see a feature where i can just "duplicate" days instead of having to manually put in each day by day

Reason for choosing Gusto

price and ease of use

4.0

Gusto is a great platform if you want basic payroll and human resources services. It also offers a lot of new generation widgets which makes it a complete package tool for online HR activities and tax management. My overall experience using Gusto is really good.

Pros

Gusto has a good user-oriented interface that allows all the HR and payroll operations to be completed within minutes. It automates payroll management operations and also enables paperless and direct transactions.

Cons

Gusto's PTO area needs to be updated. Also, It doesn't provide geo tracking and global payroll features.

### "HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE"

July 21, 2021

2.0

Not great.

Pros

It's easy to use and to onboard contractors.

Cons

You can literally not talk with anyone that can help you that can help you with a specific issue. I've had a tax issue with Gusto since I onboarded 3 years ago. They have not once paid my employee taxes to SC Revenue but yet they take the money out of each paycheck. I'm not allowed to talk to anyone in the tax department about my case which they claim they're still working on. Its been months and nothing has happened. The fact that you can not speak to someone about an issue that needs attention and to speak to someone that knows the case is disturbing and unprofessional. I think its great the company is groing but complete automation is poor business practice and incredibly unprofessional. Not handling tax problems is unacceptable.

I chose Gusto due to their appealing product yet in reality I've come to find out it's not appealing. If a customer can not speak with someone working at the company about the services they pay for and if they're means for communication is 99% automation than theres a big problem.

### "Singularly the best software purchase for our small company"

July 15, 2021

5.0

LOVE IT. I have zero interest in looking elsewhere. It does exactly what I need it to do and I know I can grow with it. Customer service has been good whenever we needed it, which is rare. It is set up with amazingly good user interface. Intuitive and easy to use. THANK YOU for this product!

Pros

Easy to set up. Easy to run payroll. Dashboard is great. Setting up new employees was a breeze. Paying contractors is just a few clicks. We do not use benefits, but if we did, I can imagine this would simplify so much. It is essential to our HR/payroll as a small business. We save so much over hiring someone and I dont' know how we could afford anything else. I have recommended to others who have used it and they are happy customers.

Cons

Reporting is sometimes hard to figure out. There was an alarm that kept going off, but I couldn't figure out what to do to stop it from alerting me. (small things)

Reason for choosing Gusto

When I reviewed it on a suggestion from a bookkeeper, it was immediately obvious that it was a great product. I dont' even remember the other options. This was the best option by far and we have never turned back.

### "Why Gusto is the besto!"

September 18, 2021

5.0

Gusto Human ressources management platform that is always evolving. I've been using Gusto for quite some time and it's wonderful at reminding us of important dates like work anniversaries, paydays, and paperwork deadlines. It includes a simple UI and a wallet function that allows you to better manage your money. I've never been dissatisfied with the tool. If you're moving, Gusto also has a powerful tax management feature that helps you calculate your new state or county taxes and connects you with tax software in a simple and informed manner. Gusto keeps track of your paycheck deduction and allows you to make changes as needed.

Pros

\- Employee self-onboarding, scalable subscription plans, and the flexibility to handle contractors and off-cycle payments. - Easy and straightforward to use. - clean, simple and modern. - Accurate filings and tax payments. - Great costumer service.

Cons

It's a little costly, and my biggest complaint is that it doesn't provide an offline backup feature. When the internet connection is inadequate, the software cannot be used to its full potential.

### "Effortless HR/Payroll "

February 19, 2023

5.0

We grew our startup from a 2 \[sensitive content hidden\] team to a team of 8 FT and 12 Contractors now and Gusto made the process effortlessly simple.

Pros

Gusto is HR in a box. It’s one stop shop for HR, payroll, employee benefits needs. The service is backed with quality support from experienced HR professionals who are readily available to answer any questions you might have.

Cons

We started with Gusto as a 2 \[sensitive content hidden\] team. We knew nothing about employee management and Gusto made the whole process of hiring new employees, setting up payroll and employee benefits as simple as it could get. It was like our in-house HR team full of HR professionals. I love the product and have zero complaints about it

### "Love Gusto!"

May 10, 2023

5.0

Working with gusto has been great! Its quick and easy to set up, employees find it easy to use and navigate and the automations are great.

Pros

I like how simple it is to use and set up. Payroll is done in minutes, employees can access their files and other information via the portal and gusto helps automate many of the tasks that can take extra time. You get notices and reminders for tasks that are crucial to stay compliant or as simple as a reminder to run payroll

Cons

So far gusto has been great. The only thing i find frustrating is that the software never seems to remember my credentials, so I have to do it every time- sometimes will ask to do the 2 step authentication, which is a bit annoying, but not a big deal.

### "Great Product at a Minimal Cost"

November 30, 2023

4.0

Overall I am currently happy with Gusto as our payroll and onboarding solution. However if we continue to have issues with taxes, then we might change our mind in the future.

Pros

I really like utilizing Gusto for payroll, onboarding, and tax management. The system is really easy to use and it streamlines processes very well. The payroll calculation is so easy and it only takes about 5 minutes to run payroll which is great.

Cons

A few things I do not like about Gusto is the glitches, accountability, and response time from their support team. The system seems to glitch quite frequently which needs to be rebooted. We have had some issues with Gusto completing our taxes incorrectly or late which caused us to pay late fees and it was quite frustrating. Their response time on support tickets can be multiple days which is frustrating when it comes to urgent notices.

### "The People Platform, Gusto!"

December 6, 2022

5.0

Pros

Gusto is the perfect tool for payroll and deductions, talk of error free tool, easy to use and very user friendly interface, I am forever grateful for coming across Gusto, literraly saved my life. Its fisrt and very easy to figure out how it works. The new hire paperwork is all taken care of by Gusto. Everything is available in one location, how cool is that! The selfservice aspect just blows my mind, we rarely need to get customer service involved. Also when we do need them wich is not often they are always ready to assist, very knowlegeable and into details, we are always left contented and always feel appreciated. Sometimes we have contractors in our company and we use Gusto to pay them, pay taxes and also provide employees benefits like paid overtime etc. The software is fairly priced, even startup companies can afford. Reporting is easy with Gusto, who doesnt like that, we can all agree reporting is usually boring but with Gusto, reporting is a breeze

### "Awesome Product and Support Staff"

December 29, 2020

5.0

Payroll and tax payments can be time consuming and Gusto allows for the accounting team to do more important work and still feel like everything is being taken care of on the payroll side. Their customer service teams are extremely supportive and helpful.

Pros

Auto-sync and tax payments are the best features of the product that go above other products. Gusto will file the taxes for you, will send corrections if need be, and keeps track of all of that for your ease of mind. Their customer service team is above reproach, always willing to look into a problem and resolve it as soon as possible.

Cons

This is nitpicky, but the layout of the website often changes slightly. It would be nice if there was more consistency in the format. But the tool itself is above reproach.

### "Don't Waste Your Time - Either pay for Pro or Don't choose Gusto"

May 1, 2023

3.0

Pros

I like that they take care of filing the payroll tax forms

Cons

Their customer service is HORRIBLE. LONG wait times. Talking with folks who do not speak English as their first language. No commitment to getting issues resolved. One of my clients' payroll was blocked because an error in Gusto's system caused them to think that I wasn't paying the bill. Turns out it was a software issue on their end and there was nothing I could do to fix it.I called right away at the beginning of the month and was told it would be resolved in a few days.At the end of the month, it appeared the issue had still not resolved, so I called in. They said they would create a ticket.A week later the issue was still not resolved (and as of the time of me writing this, it's still not resolved). This was nothing my client did wrong. This was nothing I did wrong. This was an issue with Gusto's back office. But yet, my client was the one who suffered because we could not process payroll on time.No one took responsibility to escalate and resolve this issue. For my friends who have a dedicated account rep, I've been told it works well. But if you don't have an account rep, don't waste your money on Gusto. It will be the biggest mistake you can make (aside from maybe choosing Quickbooks Payroll...)
