### "Gusto review"

May 7, 2026

5.0

Overall, my experience with Gusto was very positive. It is an easy-to-use and efficient platform that works especially well for small to mid-sized companies looking for a streamlined payroll and HR solution. The system simplifies payroll processing, onboarding, benefits administration, and employee self-service, which saves a significant amount of administrative time. While it may have some limitations for larger or more complex organizations, it provides a strong user experience, reliable automation, and solid customer support for companies seeking an all-in-one HR and payroll platform.

Pros

Gusto was very user-friendly and intuitive for both administrators and employees. The platform made payroll processing, onboarding, benefits administration, and tax filings simple and streamlined. I also liked the clean interface, automated workflows, employee self-service features, and the ease of managing payroll and benefits in one centralized system. Customer support was responsive, and the implementation process was straightforward compared to larger HRIS/payroll platforms.

Cons

One downside of Gusto was that it can feel somewhat limited for growing or more complex organizations. Reporting customization and advanced HR/payroll configurations were not as robust as larger enterprise systems. Certain integrations and workflows also lacked flexibility, and support for more complex benefits administration, compliance tracking, or multi-state/international operations could be challenging as the company scaled.

### "Great App Design and Use, Support and Bugs Could Use Improvement"

April 9, 2026

5.0

When it comes to overall site and app navigation and experience, Gusto has been great. I've used Gusto in it's earlier stages when it offered an incentive for getting your paycheck deposited and allowed you to borrow before your next paycheck. With customer support experience, customer service could use some improvement.

Pros

What I like most about Gusto is how easy and simple it is to use! I actually have not had a bad experience with Gusto while using their platform. I like that it has it's own money account and it is separated from the rest of the other features. The app is very accessible and you do not get lost navigating it. Tax information and employment information can easily be found as well.

Cons

There are constant times where the app is down and it states that gusto is working to fix it. There has been times where it has been hours for you to be able to access your money and you cannot call to unlock your card with the customer service number. They direct you to use the site. Even when you want to dispute charges. When it comes to disputes, Gusto is the least helpful in that department. It doesn't seem like they actually investigate when your card is stolen.

### "Excellent Time Management Program"

February 26, 2026

5.0

Great Experience! Have been using Gusto for over 7+ years now and have not even wanted or needed to look for any additional services!

Pros

Very easy to use app that allows all employees the ease of time tracking and time off requests. Great customer support for small business management and value for your money!

Cons

Nothing! We have been able to set up the app to allow for as much autonomy as we like for our employees to have, while still being streamlined for payroll and schedules!

### "Gusto is a great software! Highly Suggest! "

December 18, 2025

4.0

Overall, Gusto is an excellent resource for payroll, managing salaries, and tracking time off. We also find it very useful for hosting employee manuals, documents, and training modules. Our team completes their annual sexual harassment training through the platform, which is quick and engaging thanks to the interactive videos! We have been using Gusto for years and it has truly changed how we operate. While we have a relatively small team, I can imagine this software would be equally beneficial for a larger organization. Plus, the seasonal outfits on the loading page mascot (a cute little pig) are a delightful touch! We love it!

Pros

Gusto has significantly streamlined our payroll and time tracking. Its user-friendly interface makes it easy to monitor employee hours and resolve issues efficiently. The location tracking feature is particularly helpful, as it allows employees to manually clock in, clock out, and take breaks within our building's geofence all from their phones!

Cons

The user interface for employees can be somewhat clunky at times. They have reported long loading periods when attempting to clock in or out, and there are occasional issues with the location \[tracking/accuracy\].

### "Tracking hours with ease"

December 6, 2025

5.0

Overall I found it easy to enter and keep track of my hours each day and week. If I ever add employees and grow the size of my business, I will use Gusto for all of my payroll needs.

Pros

As an employee with the employer implementing Gusto as our way to clock hours and bill labor, I found it pretty simple and straightforward, with full transparency as far as being able to view accrued hours, break time etc.

Cons

The third party accountant was based in India and would call me at odd or inopportune times to verify my hours before submitting payroll. I'm not sure if this was my employer's decision or if it comes standard as part of Gusto's service, so that might not even have been Gusto's fault.

Response from Gusto

December 9, 2025

Hi Ryan, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience, and for the incredible 10/10 recommendation! We’re thrilled to hear that tracking your hours in Gusto has been simple and transparent — that’s exactly what we aim for. It’s great to know the ability to view your breaks, accrued hours, and daily totals has been helpful in your workflow. I also want to clarify the concern you mentioned about receiving calls from a third-party accountant. Gusto does not outsource payroll verification to external accountants or require employees to confirm hours by phone. Those decisions are made by each individual employer, so it sounds like that part of the experience was handled outside of Gusto’s process. Still, we really appreciate you flagging it — feedback like this helps us understand where confusion may arise. We’re grateful for your kind words, and it means a lot that you’d choose Gusto again as your own business grows. We’d be honored to support you and your future team.

### "Great payroll tool for small businesses. Way better than ADP"

February 25, 2026

5.0

Overall, Gusto has been a reliable and time-saving solution for managing payroll and HR for our small business. The setup was straightforward and the ongoing maintenance is minimal. While there are some areas for improvement, particularly around pricing and support, it covers the essentials well and has noticeably reduced the stress of payroll processing.

Pros

Gusto makes payroll incredibly easy to run — even for someone without a dedicated HR or accounting background. The interface is clean and intuitive, and the automated tax filing saves a significant amount of time. The onboarding flow for new employees is smooth and largely self-service, which reduces the administrative burden. Integration with popular accounting tools like QuickBooks is also a big plus.

Cons

The pricing can add up quickly as you scale, especially when adding features like time tracking or benefits administration. Customer support response times can be slow during peak periods. Some advanced reporting features feel limited compared to dedicated HR platforms, and the mobile app could use more functionality for managers.

### "Gusto - User Friendly and Straightforward"

April 30, 2026

4.0

Gusto offered a time tracking solution for a small team that just needed to account for overtime, employee punctuality, dependability.

Pros

Gusto has a clean user experience and a good interface for timesheet reporting. It was easy to retrieve tax documents.

Cons

Making edits or corrections were a bit tricky, but I think that is by design to avoid unauthorized changes to the account.

### "Gusto is awesome! Best HR Software there is"

October 28, 2025

I have loved Gusto. I've used almost all of the big payroll/HR systems and Gusto is head and shoulders above the rest. Easy to use, awesome automations, great at gathering feedback, makes sense, and more.

Pros

Gusto is awesome! Easiest HR system I've used. Super simple and straightforward. Has great workflows. Is so easy to understand and access as a user.

Cons

I honestly don't have any complaints about Gusto. I've had a couple of login issues before, but nothing big stands out.

### "A Reliable and User-Friendly Payroll Solution"

March 5, 2026

5.0

The overall experience with Gusto has been great. The platform is user-friendly, reliable, and makes managing payroll, benefits, and HR tasks much simpler.

Pros

What I like most about Gusto is how it simplifies payroll and HR tasks. It's user friendly, automates time consuming processes, and helps ensure employees are paid accurately and on time.

Cons

There's not much I dislike about Gusto. The only small challenge is that new users may need a little time to get familiar with all the features, but once you do, it's very intuitive.

In the beggining it was okay, now customer service and response is abysmal.. I cannot get a response without doing things like this.

Pros

They seemed to have an easy and effective setup this was a lie. In the begging they responded quickly to chat only to never respond to anything short of escalations

Cons

They lie about forms and tax filing so that they cause loss of money to the company. They claim i filled out a w-4 which they used to determine the tax witholding but they lied about it

Pros

### "Excellent for payroll. Mediocre for everything else."

January 3, 2026

4.0

Gusto works best as a payroll-focused checking account, not as your financial command center. It excels at getting you paid reliably, often early, and without confusion. If that’s your main goal, it delivers. If you want robust banking tools or fast individual support, you’ll likely need a second bank alongside it.

Pros

Consistent, on-time payroll deposits. Paychecks arrive when they’re supposed to, which is the bare minimum but still worth praising. Early direct deposit. Funds often show up up to two days early, which actually helps instead of just sounding helpful. Simple, clean interface. Pay stubs, tax documents, and transaction history are easy to find and easy to read. No hidden fees. No monthly maintenance fees or surprise deductions quietly stealing lunch money. Clear pay breakdowns. Earnings, deductions, and year-to-date totals are transparent and straightforward.

Cons

Limited banking features. This is a checking account, not a full-service bank. No joint accounts, limited bill pay, and minimal extras. Support favors employers. If you’re just an employee with a problem, response times can feel slower than they should. Cash deposits are inconvenient. Not ideal if you still live in the physical-currency world. Few customization options. Alerts, budgeting tools, and spending controls are pretty basic.

Good overall and would recommend it. I do appreciate the simplicity and ease of it. You can't go wrong with the product.

### "Decent Option with Some Limitations"

December 3, 2025

4.0

It was okay. Not the best, but it serves its intended function. Price-wise, I think they are competitive enough for the offerings. I would recommend it for small businesses that need to pay US-based staff. For international staff, there's some limitations on countries you can enroll.

Pros

Cheap option for paying US-based contractors and employees. Their customer support is also great. Every time I request support, someone is available online or over the phone to talk to, which is a feature that most other similar providers lack.

Cons

The user interface could be challenging. There is definitely a learning stage for new users who have never used similar platforms before. In my experience, I've used several platforms similar to Gusto, and I believe their payroll function needs improvement. There are limitations on reporting fuctions that needs some customization.

### "Horrible FSA, love the payroll."

July 29, 2025

1.0

Up until the transition to Elevate and processing FSA by Gusto, everything was fine. For some reason, the team at Gusto doesn't get FSA.

Pros

Gusto as a payroll management software/app is very close to a four star. Cute, gets the job done well, nice emails letting you know you paycheck is coming and more. Very easy to use when considering JUST payroll.

Cons

When Gusto incorporated Elevate to run FSA, it has literally been a nightmare! It's so bad, we don't want to do FSA anymore! Literally, just this week, we had an issue with a credit card transaction denied from a pharmacy. When we checked with Gusto support (which can only be done by AI or via email if AI starts messing up), it was because a pharmacy was marked as a non-FSA entity. A pharmacy? It was such a mess that what was 100% automated by the doctor and pharmacy, the pharmacy couldn't undo the transaction and was going to send back the prescription. The family had to go in person to the pharmacy, use a different credit card and not be able to use their own FSA money. Then, in Gusto attempting to fix the bug had the audacity to ask for a receipt for the transaction. Really!! A receipt for a denied transaction. Before I would ever recommend that great payroll that Gusto has been, they need to either stop doing FSA all together or find a partner that does FSA well.

My whole company uses Gusto to pay our employees/staff. The app allows us to deposit our pay to our bank accounts instantly. It also allows us to store some of our pay into a savings account.

Gusto is so much better than the other platforms we have used! It even has a chat for your company employees. One employee can also have more than one account, if needed, but just one login, making it very easy to use.

Pros

### "Good platform for small company that needs to meet compliance."

October 15, 2025

4.0

Overall, it was fine when we were a small sized company. As we got closer to 50+ is when the problems began. Benefits were always having issues with file feeds and Gusto did some backend pay adjustments without informing us first, which caused problems. But like i said, under 50, it's a good solution.

Pros

I liked the platform look, its very friendly and modern looking. It's a one stop shop for employees in a small sized company. I liked that it had company matching options as well. I also liked the ease with getting states setup for tax purposes.

Cons

I don't like the customer service, it's an email and it can takes an extended amount of time to get any issues resolved. I also didn't like that you couldn't do any mass uploads. They're still sending us emails even though we cut services over 3 years ago.

We have had a good experience with gusto’s software and with their customer service. They’re always friendly and helpful when we run into questions.

Pros

We love how easy gusto is to use for a small business owner who has no experience in running payroll and all that comes with that piece of owning a business. They give checklists for hiring, file certain forms and submit certain taxes when needed.

Cons

### "Easy to use and clear. Facilitates the recording and evaluation of working hours."

July 3, 2025

5.0

Gusto covers all the relevant functions for our daily HR work. The interface and operation are simple and clear. The individual customization options for time tracking and digital personnel file management make it much easier to use.

Pros

Time tracking is made easy with a start/stop function or the option to manually add time. You can also set a time limit so that subsequent changes are only possible for a certain number of days. The administrator role allows you to view and edit all time accounts. However, if someone changes something, it is displayed by name in the overtime overview, so all changes can be tracked.

Cons

It would be nice if the tool also allowed regular feedback discussions to be recorded directly in the tool and not just uploaded as a single document to the employee.

### "Gusto Missed Our Payday"

June 25, 2025

1.0

Poor. I expect so much more from such a prominent software. I also expect 24/7 human tech support when dealing with payroll for companies that have all sorts of hours of operation. We are restaurants and are operating non-stop in many ways.

Pros

Much better interface than Quickbooks. Attempts to integrate a hiring module that does present an easy, online application form.

Cons

1\. Gusto missed one of our paydays. Gusto withdrew the funds, and deposits did not arrive on the following day as promised. You can imagine the impact on our 45 employees and their level of trust in our company. Hours of corresponding with their support team both by chat and phone left no resolution. Gusto does not have a human support network for after 7pm CST. 2. User interface is clunky. They still have the "25 records" is the total records listed at the bottom of the page and you have to choose 50, or 100 every single time you want to see a whole list. 3. You cannot assign employees to multiple departments within the same location. 4. Alerts come up on the home screen and you cannot easily make them go away. 5. The hiring module does not have a way of managing one applicant who has applied for multiple jobs. The system sees it all as separate applicant records.

Response from Gusto

July 1, 2025

Hi Todd, My name is Chelsea, and I’m with Gusto’s Client Relations team. I saw the feedback you recently shared and want to sincerely apologize for the experience you had. We understand how serious it is to miss a payday, and I’m truly sorry for the stress this caused you and your team. I also appreciate you taking the time to outline the other pain points you encountered, from limited after-hours support to some of the platform’s design limitations. This is not the experience we want for any of our customers, and I’ve shared your comments with the appropriate teams to review further. I wasn’t able to locate your account with the information you provided in this review but if you’re open to it, we’d be glad to revisit what happened with the missed payroll and offer clarity where we can. We know you may be looking into other solutions, and we understand. That said, if you choose to continue the conversation, we’re here and ready to help however we can. Thank you again for your feedback.
