Overall, I love gusto and will continue to use it into the future. I really love how easy and convenient it is to use. It's also very effective in the onboarding processes.

Pros

I love using gusto. It's nice having all important documents in one place. I like how easy the onboarding process was too using gusto.

Cons

I didn't like how I had issues with the app. It could just be my phone/user error.

Payroll is no longer such a confusing and tedious process. I feel like I am back in control of my company finances with Gusto.

Pros

I absolutely love their support team. I have encountered many questions and potential problems on my end over the years, and their support has been super quick to reply to any of my concerns. They will go out of their way to help you navigate your payroll issues. Gusto is very easy to use and it gives me a safe and secure way to promptly fill out required forms and meet tax deadlines. I feel like my payroll process is essentially on auto-pilot now, so I'm saving time and money. The checklist approach to setting up accounts makes things very easy right from the start and the dashboard lets you know what actions are needed.

Cons

I wish I would have discovered Gusto sooner.

Pros

It is easy to use. I switched years ago from trying to do everything myself. They have been very helpful.

Cons

It is hard to navigate at times until you learn how to use it. As they have grown it is more difficult to get a hold of customer service and get issues solved.

It could be slow to process payroll, but since leaving we haven't found anything better. Even when it took longer than expected it was still easy to monitor progress.

Pros

There are a lot of services like Gusto, and some of them are even free. We left Gusto in an attempt to integrate all of our data, but having everything in one place hasn't made anything easier and in the case of payroll it made things much worse.

Cons

Couldn't do instantaneous payouts, and it could be glitchy on rare occasions. That said, it still worked better than square.

### "Excellent HR system for small companies; not built for scale"

I have been very happy with Gusto for our small and growing business. Just be aware that if (and hopefully it's WHEN) you're business is successful and you are approaching 100+ employees you should be looking for a replacement HR system that can handle a larger workforce.

Pros

Gusto was very easy to get set up and implement for our company. I was quickly able to learn all the features and functionalities and start using this system to run HR. I think the ease of use is very important for small businesses and it saves a lot of time by creating an intuitive portal for employers, and an easy to use portal for employees as well.

Cons

Gusto has a few quirks that make some tasks difficult or impossible to do. When I reached out to customer service to ask why these issues were so difficult to perform the answer was "Gusto is not designed for a company of your size, and is meant for businesses with fewer than 100 employees". While I now understand that the reason for this is partly due to legal requirements, it wasn't clear to us that we would need to shift our HR system to another provider after we hit this milestone for our growing business.

Pros

I love how easy it was to set-up and use. Gusto really has a very user-friendly platform. They provide a lot of guidance, steps, and resources to walk you through how to set up each employee and stay in compliance with federal and state laws. There was also a very easy process to set up for worker's compensation. It was painless and very affordable.

Cons

There are additional useful features, such as time tracking, that are in a different price tiers. There is a base price to unlock the tool, in addition to a per-user monthly fee. This makes it quite cost-prohibitive to add on features.

You have to monitor everything that is processed from them. My mistake. Do not rely on their quality. You have to keep tabs on everything.

Have a tax issue where Gusto failed to file 940 and was a year late on a 941. I didnt check this (foolish me, though I was paying a service for this). I have a tax liability now. The main issue is that if you call customer service, there is NO ONE beyond the front line service. NO ONE from the tax department will call you, speak with you, or give you an update. You will get a canned email "we are working on your issue". Its clear at this point, that they have canned my issue and are hoping I resolve on my own. I was told twice by the front line girl, that I should call IRS and ask for extension. My attorney said NO...gusto trying to get off the hook and state that you took over this issue from them. Ready to break down at this point. Small business that cannot afford to spend (35:26 on hold right now) every day calling them with them stating "Someone from Tax will call you back before the end of the day" Hot Take...the phone number of the tax preparer is on every 941...starting to call them bitching about this. I dont know whether I owe the tax, it was a reporting issue, payroll processing issue, no idea. CANT GET ANYONE TO GIVE ME ANTHING. FRUSTRATED...VERY VERY VERY FRUSTRATED. I would not recommend this service.

I started using Gusto when I joined my current company. I don't usually think too much about HR and benefits platforms, but I have to say, this one really actually stood out to me. It made accessing my personal info very easy and painless - in a way that other platforms just aren't really able to do. I'm definitely a fan of the simplicity!

Pros

I appreciate Gusto's user-friendly interface, which makes navigating my benefits and time off tasks really easy. Additionally, it really does seem to simplify things that are way to easy to over-complicate with other software platforms - accessing my benefits administration in particular.

Cons

I've occasionally come across some glitches I suppose, but these have been few and far between for the most part.

Very good experience. Very helpful and takes away so much stress when it comes to getting people set up for payroll and administering it.

Pros

It handles all the state requirements when ot comes to taxes and wages. It provides accurate reporting of vacation hours used and salary information. Very easy to use overall and sends summary emails at the of the month. Direct deposit happens always on time.

Cons

It does not do time tracking very in detail.

### "Health Insurance Cancelled Due to Gusto not Forwarding an Email"

Payroll is fine. Employee experience is fine. Never trust them with benefits. This could happen to you.

Pros

Payroll works fine. It's relatively easy to add new hires until you get to the compensation field. Employees are able to log in and have a personal private portal.

Cons

The interface is not logical. The FAQ/Help pages search doesn't function efficiently and lacks relevant content. This leads to having to make a call and very long underestimated wait times. Half the time I get through I have to be transferred to some other team and wait for a long period of time once more. I went through open enrollment with them for our health benefits. The process was disjointed, confusing, incredibly time-consuming, down to the wire stress to hit a deadline that was a continuously moving target. Months later our insurance was dropped. Gusto put themselves as the primary contact w/the carrier, never added anyone from our company, received a message regarding pending cancellation and never forwarded it. I discovered after speaking directly to the carrier that an email went to Gusto that should have come to me warning of imminent loss of benefits. After going around and around with Gusto to get that email they reluctantly sent it over and admitted the mistake. It was too late for us.

Overall I have been very satisfied with the product and services. Once our contact expires with our accounting firm we will look into more of the features of the software to save on overhead.

Pros

We use this software for onboarding new hires. It was really only used in a limited scope, only new hire documentation. They offer many other features that we haven't used yet but hope to utilize in the future.

Cons

I honestly can't find anything negative so far from our experience. I have been very happy so far.

The product was relatively easy to set up and to use. The customer service is helpful to talk through any issues we were having. Pretty straightforward overall.

The one issue we have with it is that it takes a couple days for direct deposit Training videos would be helpful. Can't pay an hourly rate and also commission

### "Gusto staff can't keep up with demand "

I think Gusto has great ideas and will eventually get there. There needs to be a better system in place for pushing data to insurance carriers. Gusto needs better communication around what is happening and what the timeline will be for fixes. That takes more staff and a better trained staff.

Pros

It's nice to have a benefits dashboard and payroll system in one. Gusto makes the new hire paperwork process so simple and reminds me of birthdays and anniversaries.

Cons

Our benefit renewal was an absolute nightmare. There were tons of mistakes made by the Gusto team. It's obvious that information needed by carriers is being manually typed by someone at Gusto. Employees names were spelled incorrectly on insurance cards, addresses were wrong, the contribution table (company vs employee contributions) were completely off. We had to restart open enrollment twice for a company of 35 people. As the head of HR, I was embarrassed.

We went with them because they were the cheapest option when we started our business and absolutely loved. Unfortunately they significantly raised their rates that it was more cost effective to move to ADP or another competitor for the cost.

I wish my previous employers had used Gusto so I could have been introduced to it sooner. I will definitely be a little upset if I ever change jobs and my new employer doesn't use Gusto. It's just so handy and does EXACTLY what I need it to do.

Pros

There's so much I like about Gusto. Being able to track my paychecks digitally has helped me budget properly for the first time in my life. It was easy to set up direct deposit, and even get my paycheck split into different accounts. We also just recently switched to Gusto's time tracker for clocking in and out. Taxes are ramping up, and Gusto allows me to view my W2's online and even integrates directly with TurboTax to import my info quickly and easily. I filed my taxes in 15 minutes thanks to Gusto.

Cons

It would be nice if Gusto had a dedicated app for mobile phones to use the time tracker for clocking in and out, as right now you can only use the website.

Gusto is an extremely robust software for any businesses looking to deliver a streamlined HR experience, but especially small businesses. Onboarding from our previous software, OnPay, was seamless and we far prefer Gusto due to the incredible user experience and vertical integration of features with our existing workflow.

Cons

While the price is more expensive than our previous software, our team thinks it's worth the cost. Your team and/or business might not use all of the features that Gusto offers however - it's incredibly powerful and robust, but it's not for everyone. For those looking to optimize their HR productivity however, it's a no brainer!

### "An HR-solution revelation for employees"

I wish the HR solutions at my previous companies had been as helpful as Gusto has been. So many other providers create such needless headaches when looking for the most basic employment (pay, benefits, insurance, 401k, etc.) information. Gusto's been a revelation.

Pros

As an employee, it's been such a revelation using Gusto. It's so easy to get so many HR-related things done (check pay stubs, change tax exemption status, see benefits, etc.) in a friendly, well-designed solution that it's mind-boggling that some of the older, entrenched HR solutions have been getting away with such a painful UX for so long. It's one of those companies where they really seem to lean into their brand promise in every little interaction... even when I emailed them to ask a question about COBRA coverage, they responded sooner than expected with a friendly, personalized, helpful response. It felt like I was talking to someone who represented the company and genuinely cared about my experience with them. (Unlike, say, an outsourced call center person.)

Cons

I don't know what Gusto costs relative to the competition, so I don't know what the ROI will be for you, but frankly I haven't run into any frustrations with Gusto, yet. It's been nothing but pleasant surprises.

Great they do really good integrations with zappier and all the major services that work well with it.

Pros

This makes payroll and administration of the backend of the business easy. Helps us stay up on the latest changes in employment issues and filing for our business and contractors.

Cons

It runs too easily in the background. If you don't stay ontop of logging back in time to time you might miss updates and changes. They do a good job of keeping you in the loop of what's going on.

Gusto has helped to make payroll and HR administration an easy task no longer at the top of my list to get through each week. I’m happy to have a place where all of my employee information is located!

What I’ve liked most about Gusto is the ability to quickly pay out of state employees and contractors without paperwork! I love that the employee enters their own private info for payment and W-2s.

Cons

I’ve liked least having to track and fix tax compliance issues and lack of easy customer support regarding this.
