### "Gusto has won me over for life. "

October 29, 2019

5.0

Time sheets, paycheck stubs, tax documents for my employees are all available to them without any extra work needed by me. Gusto takes care of it al.

Pros

I love how easy it is for my employees to see their paycheck stubs, get their tax documents, and even do a early cash out option if they need a little extra money before payday. They have recently introduced time tracking, which solved another issue I had with keeping track of everyone's hours in another product.

Cons

I don't have many cons regarding Gusto. So far it has met all my needs flawlessly. The one con I would say is that the insurance process could be a little less confusing.

Alternatives considered

Reason for choosing Gusto

Gusto has more features regarding paycheck stubs and they are adding new features all the time. Most other products seem to be stagnant.

### "Better than nothing"

January 19, 2021

3.0

I am disappointed. I though I was getting a first tier payroll software with faster turnaround for less money. I got a lees than complete feature set with hit or miss service.

Pros

It is easy to use and set up. It is much more straightforward than many of its competitors. Onboarding was mostly drama free.

Cons

The system is not as robust and feature rich as its key top tier competitors like QB or ADP. Once we started using it we found features missing that we took for granted would be there. One of the key things that made us choose Gusto was the ability to give our staff direct deposit payments next day. In practice the design of the system makes that impossible for us. We discovered a glitch in the system that prevented us from properly reporting overtime in our state. Gusto was unable to find what was wrong or give us a workaround, We found one ourselves minutes from our payroll deadline. Customer support is erratic, with some folks providing helpful and timely support while others are not significantly better than us guessing . We kept getting routed to our designated representative when all we needed was a simple question to be answered. The time it took to locate and hook up with our rep was longer then it took to get an answer. Pro tip to customer support: If you don't know the answer, dont send me a link to some general background topic. It does not help.

### "Very bad customer service"

September 27, 2021

3.0

I have wasted so much time trying to get issues resolved that it would have saved money if I had just kept using ADP (or any other payroll software).

Pros

Gusto is easy to use and was a good price for what we needed as a small company.

Cons

They messed up our tax agency payments and took MONTHS to fix it. They closed the case prematurely and when we reached out again because we received another notice of failure to pay (which was their fault), we were put back at the end of the line and were told it would take 77-81 business days before our case would even be looked at. They are clearly understaffed and need more tax resolution specialists. They are providing horrible service to their customers.

### "Good online interface and easy to use, but customer support has gone significantly downhill"

March 7, 2022

disappointing customer service. The parts that work on auto-pilot work just fine

Pros

easy of use, layout of website is intuitive

Cons

The customer support has been poor, when that was a primary reason we switched to Gusto. They used to have great support and it has universally gone downhill in the past year or 2. Difficulty getting accurate quotes for health insurance benefit options

### "Great UI and very easy to use"

April 11, 2022

5.0

I think Gusto is perfect for Small businesses and probably larger companies as well (I can only speak for myself). As a user and a manager, using Gusto is extremely easy and I enjoy the UI. I also really appreciate the ability to use a Gusto debit card and get paid a day or two in advance. Managing my direct deposits and accessing my historical data is a breeze, which is also a plus. These guys embrace modern SaaS and it shows from their product to their success. Highly recommend.

Pros

Time & attendance management is super simple and I really like the payroll/finance options as a user.

Cons

Not really much honestly. I enjoy everything about Gusto from an employee/user perspective.

### "Gusto for Marketing Agency "

December 2, 2021

5.0

I have enjoyed utilizing Gusto for the past two years and has made maintenance and tracking of past/future pay easy to do. Tax filing is also additionally easy by receiving a direct digital copy for my w2 each year in January which also aids in expedited processing.

Pros

Ease of use for users to login and verify upcoming pay, past pay cycles, tax forms (when appropriate for filing), easy to change w4 tax status, and the like.

Cons

I unfortunately did not have the full suite of features to utilize or use with the time I’ve had Gusto. With how we have gusto established it is solely for pay only and not additional benefits.

### "Only good if you only have salaried employees"

January 15, 2020

3.0

This would be a great software for a company that has salaried employees who do not receive expense reimbursements through payroll. And a company that does their own health insurance benefit administration.

Pros

\- The employee on-line onboarding and self-service of their own information is great.

Cons

\- No grid to enter hours, tips, reimbursements. You have to open additional areas for this. - There is no way to have two hourly pay rates for employees, so don't use this software if you have shift differentials or mixed pay wages. - The Preview Report and the Submit Payroll buttons are TOO close together. - Anytime you add a new deduction, you have to resync QuickBooks. - There is no cash advance repayment, you have to create a new deduction for it every time and resync QuickBooks. - My client has the benefits package and has lost money because the health insurance deductions did not start until months after it should have. The employee left before the correct deductions started. - Call for pricing for another client and had to go through a screener call who had another person call me to set up a time to discuss with another person who would go through the pricing with me. Why does it take 3 or more calls to get an answer?

### "Gusto takes the hassle out of payroll."

April 17, 2019

5.0

Throughout the years, our company has used Gusto and never had any reason to look elsewhere. The only problem we ever had is that we can't pay international contractors. (Presumably all they'd need to do to allow international contractors is to collect a W8-BEN and integrate some kind of global payouts feature. There's money on the table for them if they implement that as a paid addon.)

Pros

When I set up the software the first time, it takes care of the bulk of the work. Each week I need only click the person's name, click the button to add the gross payment amount, enter the payment amount, and confirm it. All the filings and grunt work is taken care of by Gusto every year on time. To add new contractors to payroll, I just enter their name, email, and state, and then have the contractor fill out their info including bank account data for direct deposit. They launched a new feature to make it so people get paid faster now, too!

Cons

It only works with people in the USA, so if you want to pay people overseas, you're out of luck. :/

### "Fantastic Modern Payroll Platform"

January 11, 2020

5.0

At my previous company, we didn't have any type of payroll app like this for employees. I wish I had known about it sooner so I could have implemented it there. The only other tool I've used is ADP, which was older and a bit antiquated. Gusto is much more up-to-date and the UI is so much cleaner.

Pros

Our company uses Gusto to manage payroll and it's so easy to use. Their interface is very straightforward and quickly allows you to update personal info, allowances and other payroll info. It also has a really nice monthly survey it sends out to all employees asking for feedback about how the company is doing. It's a great way to anonymously let leadership know how employees feel about the company in general and specific departments.

Cons

We use Employee Navigator to manage time off, benefits tracking and some other miscellaneous HR data. It'd be great if Gusto offered those features as well so it could be all-in-one solution rather than having to use two separate apps.

### "Love Gusto"

September 17, 2019

5.0

It is an engaging payroll software and we really enjoy using it.

Pros

The best part about Gusto is the simple layout, to the employee. It is fresh, fun and easy to navigate. There are animations and you can really store a ton of useful information on the employee page, including pay history, position information and tax info. Also, the bi-weekly pay email is fun and energizing.

Cons

The only issue I have ever encountered with Gusto is the way the paycheck renders when you click to view it. It often expands past the edge of the screen and makes it hard to view. Luckily, there are a few ways to review this information.

### "Gusto is great for small businesses!"

August 16, 2018

5.0

Payroll service providers are supposed to make your life as a small business owner easier. Unfortunately, not all of these providers do so. Gusto, however, is a breath of fresh air in this space. Not only is the system easy to use and integrate, the reporting is simple, the tax management is effective, and the customer service is outstanding. I have recommended (and will continue to recommend) Gusto to other small business owners who are looking to simplify their lives with a better payroll service provider.

Pros

The Gusto platform is extremely simple to navigate and understand. It integrates well with the Xero accounting software and provides reports that are clean and easy to understand. Gusto handles my tax filings and keeps me in the loop about what is being filed and what I need to review. Finally, the customer service is superb compared to all other payroll services that I've used in the past.

Cons

I really don't have any complaints about the software. I've been very pleased with my experience.

### "Data and reports are readily available when I need them"

March 1, 2022

5.0

This payroll software is simple to set up and use. They go above and above to please their clients, and they actively seek input on how they might improve. Changes to the product are made on a regular basis in order to keep up with changing and expanding demands.

Pros

As an onboarding and payroll program, it's really simple and straightforward to use. Reminders were sent out as necessary to collect all onboarding paperwork in a checklist manner. There were a variety of ways to use payroll, including salary, hourly, combined with bonuses, and more. As a result, the customer assistance was both quick and kind.

Cons

The mobile app isn't the finest option available right now. Although I haven't used it myself, a few of my coworkers have, and we've had to go back and alter dates and times several times.

### "First and best"

April 25, 2019

4.0

Overall, I've had a good experience using gusto, I have recommended my brother uses it at his small business to help with payroll.

Pros

The first HR like software I ever used was Gusto. It was really easy to track paystubs and document taxes. I have since used other ones, and Gusto has been the simplest and most aesthetically pleasing.

Cons

When I was an employee using Gusto I didn't qualify for benefits, so i don't remember if they can do that now, but if I could sign up for insurance and choose my benefits through the same platform that would be really cool.

### "Definitely better than the rest of HR!"

January 24, 2019

5.0

Pros

As a previous longtime user of another HR software giant, I can honestly say that Gusto has been one of the best experiences I've ever had using HR software. The clean layout and clear labels really allowed me to access everything I needed easily right from one dashboard. Having paystubs, time-off requests, and benefits all in one place probably saved me hours of back and forth communication with HR.

Cons

Sometimes I felt like the tone of the random messages that would pop up was a little too "jokey" and even borderline unprofessional. It's fine to be light-hearted once in a while, but it never really seemed like there was a serious tone, when the subject matter really was serious in nature.

### "Best option out there"

August 13, 2020

4.0

Very positive.

Pros

We (BooksTime) are an accounting firm and work with many payroll solutions for many different businesses. Gusto is the most user-friendly of them all, by far. Plus, it has a modern, slick interface. And Gusto has a far better track record for consistent quality, compared to their biggest competitors.

Cons

More features would be nice. For example: ability to pay contractors in Puerto Rico, more employee dossier and evaluation features, etc. Also would be nice if each client had a dedicated support person, instead of a different contact for each new question/problem.

### "A Very Solid Payroll Solution with User-Friendly Features"

November 16, 2018

5.0

We had a great experience with Gusto, and appreciated the strength of the support team. They were always there for us when we had thorny issues.

Pros

This is a SaaS payroll platform that does a great job. The interface is very intuitive, and it is designed for small businesses that do not have a dedicated payroll person. Really, it is easy to use, even for someone who is not a payroll expert. The highlight to Gusto is its support department. While most questions can be answered by reading the FAQ, the support team is truly excellent: friendly, helpful, and able to answer very difficult questions.

Cons

Users need to remember that this is a highly automated payroll solution. This is great, but they also need to ensure that all data is entered correctly. While the software might recognize it when you try to put in an SSN with too few digits, it won't prompt you, for example, to update your workman's comp data.

### "Review "

August 27, 2020

5.0

Pros

The ability to have so many aspect of HR in one place. The resources Gusto offers and the ability to incorporate it with other programs.

Cons

We would love to have onboarding documents that we can upload as a company for employees to review and sign in their profile. Also the ability to have an employee history, if we rehire an employee for instance being able to pull up all past hire and dismissal dates is beneficial information for our industry to have. Maybe the vacation policy more customizable, so they know the are earning vacation hours but will not be eligible for it till a certain date. This has caused us some problems internally previously.

### "Super Easy for Teams! "

June 16, 2020

5.0

My overall experience has been positive and I've suggested Gusto to many teams. I have heard feedback from smaller businesses that it can be expensive. Especially since it's a "set it and forget it" software.

Pros

Extremely helpful for payroll, paid time off and employee benefits. The site is designed extremely well and it is not intimidating or confusing in any way. The best part about this is that it's a "set it and forget it" software.

Cons

I do not have many cons to this program. I would say that it would be nice to be able to edit your PTO description or requests after the fact.

### "“Excellent HR/payroll software - ADP is the shark, Gusto is the Ocean”"

January 7, 2022

4.0

Payroll and tax reporting are two areas in which Gusto excels, and it's why I use it. Off-cycle or bonus payrolls can be run, and tax fields can be customised per CPA guidelines if you need to undertake more advanced tasks, such executing off-cycle or bonus payrolls. Quickbooks Desktop connectivity was also set up, but the export and import of the downloaded.iif files must be done manually. It would be nice if it was more integrated with QB. When I've had a question, the support team has been quick to respond and informed.

Pros

In my opinion, this is the best payroll software I've seen in a long time, with features like explaining overtime and congratulating employees on overtime hours. "Even with the free trial, Gusto exceeded my expectations in terms of its versatility." "It's refreshing to see a more contemporary HR brand. Benefit management is a breeze with their user-friendly app and website." "Great for persons and businesses that want to reward their customers, this is a fantastic service. It should be used by everyone."

Cons

"Those are their exact words. Our client was almost lost because of that as well." "It's a little discouraging that no one has responded or has responded slowly. It takes more than a few days to get an answer to a simple question." There is "little or no customer support" for this product because it is difficult to set up. "The user interface as a whole is a disgrace. If you make a single error with your mouse location, you'll lose everything you've typed, even if you've documented carefully."
