Co-Founder Consumer Services Used the software for: 2+ years ### "Gusto takes no responsibility for their software defects" June 6, 2019 2.0 Pros The only thing I ever liked about Gusto was that it was a low-cost solution. That was until we were hit with thousands of dollars in fines from the Dept. of Labor for being non-compliant on workers compensation when Gusto said we were compliant. So, in conclusion, there are no "pros" to using Gusto. Cons Using Gusto led directly to getting hit with an $18,000 penalty from the Department of Labor for being non-compliant for workers compensation. This was Gusto's fault, as our Gusto dashboard said that we were compliant when in reality, we were not (we submitted screenshots to prove it). Gusto reported that this was a "bug" and blamed the issue on a third party partner they use, who in turn blamed Gusto. No one accepted responsibility or offered any assistance. We were forced to negotiate directly with the Department of Labor and ended up paying a reduced penalty, which still cost us thousands of dollars. Review Source AS Akash S. JUST MAKE SURE it will handle the way you want to process payroll. With QBO, I can do next day (or even same day) direct deposit, no matter when I run payroll. With Gusto I had to set arbitray pay periods that didn't fit twice monthly payroll cycles. Their programming for pay periods was very archaic. Pros Gusto was easy to use for our employees for time tracking, and I liked the online portal for employees to see their payroll information. Cons They couldn't handle doing payroll for hourly employees twice a month. It was a disaster for us, and we had to switch back to QB Time and QBO Payroll. Employees like it too as they can see their paystubs on line. It also has the convenience of direct deposit. Cons Can think of anything negative to say about this product. Collected all the necessary onboarding documents in a checklist format and sent reminders when needed. Payroll was very flexible in its use cases (salary, hourly, combination, bonuses, etc.). They are focusing their efforts on mid-sized or larger companies. Pros Gusto integrates well with Quickbooks Online. It's also fairly easy to onboard new clients/employees. Cons he reports are hard to figure out. I've had trouble looking finding what I'm looking for. Don't like how their journal entries work. Why are you not using this!" May 8, 2019 5.0 Before Gusto, I had ADP. They were horrible. No help. I inherited a mess and people were so unhelpful in figuring it all out and what was happening. Pros This is absolutely one of the best and easiest programs I have ever used. Customer service is second to none. While every answer is not yes, they answer and explain. The set up with so easy and they on top of any tax requirements. Cons Nothing. Once I plugged in the names and set wages we were off and running. Reminders are really helpful to remind my organization whats pending and whats due to make us realize our goals. Pros The software is very easy to use, and the setup and support of the system by the company is outstanding. They are able to address issues quickly via online support. Very easy to use interface, with minimal training needed for the end use. Cons There are not many features that I do not like. We had a previous payroll system before Gusto and every payroll cycle we had to wrestle with the system to make sure pay was out on time. Gusto is so much better! It sends updates and alerts directly to your email - our old system forced you to log in to see an alert so unless you logged in every day, you would never know if something was off! Cons The only complaint we have about Gusto is that the price is very competitive until you start adding more features. Even the base package of Gusto has quite a few features which work great for us but I can see how if you want a more complex, intricate system, the price could go up pretty quickly. We use it for payroll, benefits, time off, org charts, happiness surveys, and onboarding. It's made our lives a lot easier, and the price point is well worth it. Pros As a user, I love having everything in one place. I can access my Paid Time Off balance, request off, see my paychecks, my benefits, and coworkers' profiles all in one place. But my favorite thing about Gusto is probably their paycheck notification emails. They're a lot of fun and always a joy to get in my inbox. It's really a fantastic all-in-one solution. And, in my opinion, it's relatively low priced. The automated monthly surveys are also a big help to our leadership team. Cons There's not a lot. I will say there are a few features we don't use just because there are better options out there – such as time tracking. It's really simple, and if you need a more robust option connected to tasks it probably won't work for you. The only reason I stopped using their service is that the company I was operating was bought out, otherwise, I'd still be right there with them. The customer service is fantastic, they were always right on top of things to help and I didn't have to worry about payroll taxes getting submitted, employees not getting paid, everything was "set it and forget it" easy. Pros As a small business owner, accounting wasn't what I wanted to do with my time. I have clients to manage, sales to make and employees to deal with. Gusto was hands down the easiest payroll option I've ever encountered. My accountant could access it, pull the documents he needed, everything was so simple. Cons If I had to point out any negatives I would just say that the setup process can be a little overwhelming. There's lots of information, account numbers, documents, etc. Just take it in little steps and you'll be fine. Their onboarding tutorial is a great help. Gusto is easy, has everything I need and doesn't cost a bundle. Pros Very user friendly! I am able to easily find reports and data when needed. I love that my employees can print their own tax forms & check stubs, this makes less work for me when they need something. The time tracking is great, easy to access and understand for new employees. Running payroll and paying contractors is a breeze! Cons The mobile app is not the best. Pros This has made our entire payday process seamless. Questions that usually get thrown at our accountant have decreased by 50% with this integration due to the transparent nature the paystubs display all pertinent info. The on-boarding process for employees is simple with healthcare plan integrations that are easy as 1-2-3. Cons The worst part of this software is the payday emails. Please respect users privacy and get rid of the default payday email that shows how much you made for that week in large bold font. On numerous occasions that screen has been accidentally opened or viewed by many different team members in eyesight of other employees. This is a feature you can turn off, but it should be by default, not professional in my opinion in this age of privacy concerns.
