Makes a task that used to be such a stress so simple and easy to accomplish, i can't imagine going back to doing payroll without this software. Cons I can't think of one con the only thing that would make this software better would be if it were free. Customer service was good and the system was intuitive. Sad that it wasn't designed for larger platforms or had a lot of bells and whistles. Pros Gusto is an incredibly cheap payroll provider which is excellent for small businesses less than 100 employees. Cons As our company approached 100 employees, I noticed significant slow downs in the systems and issues. Unfortunately not a provider you can grow with. Direct deposit for employees is excellent Cons the DE-1 for California, I guess gusto would have to interview, I presume Gusto thinks it's easier if we do it ourselves. I love to go through and see how long I've worked during certain periods of time, it is always interesting to see the time worked fluctuating. Pros I love how easily accessible reports are. You can easily track time clocked in, breaks, and hours worked. You can even see your pay period's worth of hours worked, which is a super interesting feature. Cons There are times I forget to clock in, and I have to adjust my time to when I truly clocked in. In order to do so, you must write a note explaining yourself. I feel bad that I often have to write "forgot to clock in" in my notes, I probably write it every other week, as I often get swept up as soon as I log in to tend to urgent, time-sensitive tasks and needs. Tools like Gusto have made it a breeze to bring on talented teams and give them some of what they get in larger organizations. They're great to work with and have helped me understand certain aspects of HR and talent more than any other tool I've probably used (including the big/complicated/extensible/expensive HRIS packages). Pros It's easy to setup, easy to add different benefit options, they have fantastic people to call to get help. And it's not very expensive. Not sure what else you can ask for! Cons This is tough, because Gusto does what it says on the box. It's not some complicated HRIS solution so it doesn't do some of the really complicated stuff. You get what you get. However, if you have to do some complicated stuff, think really hard about whether it's right in the current market. Thus far, I've found the Gusto way to 100% be right with a little bit of deep thinking about my own practices that conflict with theirs. Review Source GL Germaine L. Pros I like that it is easy to use and that it collects all of the employees information for me. Employees can self manage their profiles reducing the man hours need to operate payroll. Cons Nothing. It makes payroll simple and easy to use and saves me time. Pros I like how all the benefits and 401k benefits are easily integrated with the software. Payroll takes about two minutes. Cons There is not really much I can say about what I do not like. Maybe just building the custom reports sometimes can be a little challenging. December 17, 2018 4.0 Pros I was introduced to this software when I was first starting out as a small business owner. I didn't understand things so I had to have a high-priced CPA on retainer (the IRS scares me). I was wary at first, but after trying to micromanage the process, I learned to trust that Gusto would take care of everything for me. I actually had someone else set things up for me the first time, but after that I was confident enough to only confirm here and there. I'm still a little nervous since I'm giving myself a paycheck, but at least I know I can trust Gusto (and not keep shelling out for an overpriced independent CPA). I highly recommend Gusto for small, busy employers who want an easy solution to payroll. Their onboarding and support team is AWESOME too! I sound like a fanboy, but I have to tell you what a difference I had between using Wells Fargo Payroll and then switching to Gusto. Gusto sets the bar so high that when I don't get the Gusto experience with my other apps/ services, I miss Gusto. Pros Gusto is so easy to use! Gusto makes payroll a breeze! Cons Really, I have no complaints (and I usually do have complaints about software). Cons On occasion there have been bugs in the benefit selection process but they've been minor and understandable. I just wish I could log in without having to be shown a dozen, un-removable ads for Gusto products they're trying to upsell me on, like their Credit card or their payday advances. Anyone comfortable using the internet can quickly get their people paid and Gusto makes it a breeze to stay compliant! Pros We pay payroll monthly and pay contractors weekly. Gusto made it very easy for me to provide the information I know -- how many hours worked and what the hourly rate is-- while Gusto takes care of the stuff I don't know (What to file with the gov't, how to withhold, how much to withhold, where to send the payments etc). I feel confident Gusto keeps my company compliant, and it's super easy to get my people paid. Cons Venturing beyond payroll and contractor payments, Gusto's features and expertise seems limited. They made workers' comp very easy and I'm glad for that. Their customer support has almost always helped me get to the right answer eventually but it feels hard to get hold of a real person and confirm they understand my question right away. I would recommend this product for larger companies. It's cheap because you are not paying for the kind of support needed to make sure that screw ups do not happen. We have a new client. We talked them into using GUSTO. Their payroll run is normally $36,000. The very first payroll Gusto screwed up. They debited my client's account for $200K. To make matter's worse they did not own the problem initially. It took a lot of screaming at front line people to have them understand that they made this mistake. Afterwards they didn't handle it well with my client. We had a meeting on zoom with 3 department heads and no body went on camera from Gusto. Their explanation for the error was that a manager was on vacation and didn't check a box. Seriously...that's what they said. We almost lost the client because of it too. So buyer beware. Pros The employees can self onboard. The HR services are amazing. Cons There is no place to safely store employee issue documentation. The benefit offerings are limited. Pros Gusto is incredibly functional, allowing for changes to be made without conflict. Gusto has made our payroll incredibly easy to track hours, pay and much more. They have played a lot of games when trying to end the service. Pros The HR onboarding documents. Made it very easy to hire someone Cons They fact that payroll had to be processed on Monday & no later. They did not have a integrated time clock. The vacation time mgmt element was not very robust at all. They reports are not the best either. Their customer service is awful, very hard to get some one on the phone! Trying to end the service with them has been a nightmare. They play a lot of games! There’s basic profiles that show their name, role, birthdays and work anniversary. I also love that there’s an app now that will allow you to view your check and manage your money without having to login to the website. I love how I can access my benefits (insurance, 401k, PTO & sick balance) so easily. Cons I wish the app allowed for control of benefits. We are a small, family owned and operated HVAC company and when we started we weren't using a payroll specific software. Gusto has helped take our company to a new level and has made it easier on our leadership team to manage our people. Saving us time and money that we can dedicate elsewhere. Being able to virtually onboard our new employees during this time of social distancing has also been a huge help! Cons When we first started using Gusto you could "chat" with a support person and would get immediate responses. Now that's not offered and you can either call in or send an email. It is very easy to set up, track my hours and change my settings (i.e., direct deposit, tax elections, etc) when needed. Also, their customer support line was super helpful which is always a plus! Very happy my new side uses this application and makes it easy for their employees to have access to their pay. Cons I wish I was able to put in a % amount of tax withholding for each paycheck, rather than a specific $ amount. Since this is my lower income, part-time job which I would weird hours for - I have to chance it every week based on how many hours I worked; however, Gusto makes it SUPER easy to change which is a plus.
