### "Gusto is great for all teams"

June 29, 2022

5.0

The ability to process payroll and get immediate notifications for time off requests is a big ease for us.

Pros

It is super easy to use first of all. We use it for all employees to request time off and process payroll.

Cons

There are no features that are missing. The one area that could be improved is the ease of accessing the paystubs, but I'm grasping at straws here.

### "Great platform for managing payroll"

November 11, 2021

4.0

Compared to our previous way of doing payroll, Gusto has been extremely helpful allowing for employees to get direct deposits.

Pros

Gusto is a great tool for our mid-size business when it comes to all things regarding payroll. Employees also enjoy its ease-of-use and features.

Cons

It would be nice if you could setup notifications to be sent to other employees when an employee requests time off.

### "Look no further for your small business payroll needs"

August 11, 2022

5.0

Pros

Easy to set up use for the average small business owner. Takes care of tax docs and keeps you compliant.

Cons

There weren't any features I disliked. This software made my payroll easy, onboarding, tax compliance, etc. so easy.

### "Great for the usre with a few caveats"

February 2, 2022

5.0

Initial onboarding is simple and fast and all app integration for payroll works perfect.

Pros

Ease of use, app, time clock integration, option to pull money from hours worked ahead of time

Cons

State and local tax being essentially nonexestint as an option and customer service has no idea how to do it. It can be done, just goes under wage garnishment and all legwork must be done by the employer

### "Overall easy portal to use"

January 18, 2022

5.0

Pros

I like the fact that I have everything in the same portal and our employees are able to make their own choices

Cons

Tax set up and change of rates could be easier. The customer service is not the best although we have the concierge program. You get help if you call, but emails takes weeks.

### "Makes Payroll and Taxes for Employees Easy"

August 27, 2021

5.0

It has been our payroll platform with day one and it's been six years. It has been easy to use and it always makes it easy to update my benefits. Again, I love how it preps my tax documents!

Pros

I like that it will automatically remind you of the days you get paid and will gather the correct tax documentation for you when it comes to tax season.

Cons

I wish there were more features to help me as an employee track my salary adjustments and prep me with data to negotiate with my managers.

### "Gusto rocks!"

November 2, 2020

5.0

Pros

Gusto is the easiest point of entry for a start-up working to hire its first employees that I've ever seen. It also makes working with clients as a CPA much easier when it comes to helping them resolve payroll issues.

Cons

There's not much not to like, however I would say one improvement that could be made is a little more flexibility when setting up re-curring payroll scheudles.

Alternatives considered

[SurePayroll](https://www.capterra.com/p/225706/SurePayroll/)[Paychex Flex](https://www.capterra.com/p/119841/Paychex-Flex/)[RUN Powered by ADP](https://www.capterra.com/p/185859/RUN/)

Reason for choosing Gusto

I've used all of these other products in the past, the only comparable one in terms of ease of use is SurePayroll, but based on price, customer friendliness and support, Gusto blows all of the rest out of the water.

### "Great for Startups"

May 18, 2021

5.0

Overall I've had a great experience with Gusto. Our company has been using it for the past 3yrs and it's made it easier to onboard and manage our team without the price tag of a more robust solution like ADP.

Pros

I have worked at several startups where we use Gusto for managing payroll and benefits. As both a user and administrator it's fairly simple to use and makes it easy for small companies who lack dedicated payroll and benefits admins to pay their people and make sure they are in compliance with local and federal laws.

Cons

The one thing I didn't like about Gusto is the time it takes between running payroll and actually paying out employees. Other systems I used had a 2-day cut-off where Gusto was closer to 4 days when we first implemented it.

### "Mixed feelings"

August 13, 2021

3.0

Pros

Gusto does an amazing job keeping up with your payroll and keeping everything in one place. Their customer service is terrific - very, very patient and helpful.

Cons

I have worked with Gusto on both sides, both as an administrator and as a payee. As a payee, I was angry that Gusto promoted the ACLU as a featured charity and asked if I wanted to donate some of my paycheck to them. Whatever its former status, the ACLU is currently a self-interested demagogical fringe group that makes its living cranking up hate and exploiting issues for its own aggrandizement and, one would assume, financial well-being. This is not a politically neutral charity for, say, children's cancer research. I wrote to complain and the rep stiffly pointed out that I didn't have to donate, but I thought it egregious they both normalized a bad actor and piggybacked their political agenda onto the paycheck of a company - and employee - without either's consent. As far as the software proper, the navigation is not labeled well - it's not always simple to figure out where you need to go to get what you need. If I remember correctly, it's also not always easy to find and download complete records, etc.

Reason for choosing Gusto

I thought I'd save money. I eventually realized Gusto could not replace a CPA.

### "Catches All"

March 6, 2020

5.0

Having payroll done properly and also having insurance information right there is great. Service industry as a whole has no ins but I can give options that employees can get if they are interested on their own.

Pros

There is one thing that separates this from other payroll/HR...it catches everything. I don't have to offer ins but there is a lot of information availiable thru Gusto if I need it. However, child support orders also require insurance is availiable for the child. Servers job bounce and don't always mention court orders on the tax paper work. Gusto knows, Im not sure if it is specifically looked for because of an innovate idea that the child support order is for the child..per the law. Or the software properly scans the social and does the right thing. Gusto then provides the insurance options as well as reports job agency. As a divorced mom..I love this and everyone in in compliance.

Cons

Because of all the properly following the rules in court ordered garnishment for employees, I had a high turn over. Well more paperwork for me is the least? Ill take it. I now mention this little payroll feature at interview and thin it from there.

### "Gusto is great for the small business I work for!"

December 14, 2019

4.0

I was hired on as a HR Assistant at a small business and when I say I hardly had any experience in HR, I mean it. I didn't really know anything about payroll. Gusto was so easy to use! It lessened my stress and anxiety so much. If someone with zero payroll experience can navigate the interface, anyone can. I also loved that the payroll was automated. Made my life super easy. All you do is select how often your employees need to be payed and Gusto does the rest (pay stubs, W2's, etc). In addition to this, I loved that each employees information was stored in one easy to access place. Overall, Gusto was great! I definitely recommend.

Pros

\- The interface is super easy to use - Automated payroll - Employee info is all stored in one place and is very easy to access - Free trial

Cons

Literally the only thing I disliked about Gusto (and its not even a big deal) is the fact that deposits into employees accounts show up as "Gusto" instead of my company name. Like I said, not a big deal, but this is honestly the only thing I could come up with!

### "Simple payroll for small businesses "

October 15, 2018

5.0

Pros

Oddly, the website is my favorite part about the software. Too often - payroll websites are stuffy and look like something straight out of 1995. The website is clean, brandable, allows tremendous flexibility such as offering benefits splitting your paycheck to multiple bank accounts ETC. There is a certain amount of whimsical levity they have as well - such as telling you how many gummy bears you can buy with your paycheck. Silly but fun. They have a tremendously fast turn around for getting you your W-2 at the beginning of each year - weeks before I'd get anything from previous employers. There honestly is not much I could complain about.

Cons

As much of a cop out as it is - I really have little to no issues with this service.

### "Gusto Review - has potential"

June 5, 2019

4.0

My overall experience was generally a great one. It was a great software for keeping my payroll on top of line but there are better options out there if you're willing to splurge a bit more.

Pros

It's web based and the customer service is US based so it makes it fast/easy and efficient to fix any issue you are having. It's easy to fill out any forms all inside of the application. It's pretty inexpensive for what you get out of it which is a huge win in my opinion.

Cons

Limited to small businesses. You can't really customize reports until you download the CSV files

### "Gusto makes something that as intimidating as running payroll and selecting benefits so easy and fun"

March 8, 2018

5.0

The ability to painlessly run payroll and select benefits for a startup without the cost of hiring specifically for that role.

Pros

What I like most about Gusto is that it is so easy to use and doesn't disrupt me from my daily tasks. I am a Director of Customer Success and have been able to run payroll and select benefits for my startup company as a second hat that I wear. The customer support is top notch and I actually enjoy calling in for help because I know that they will solve my problem quickly and that I will learn something new!

Cons

There aren't many drawbacks to the software. Since I am dealing with a part of the business that I don't have my experience in (payroll and benefits), I think some more tooltips or state specific FAQ's would be more beneficial

### "Former user, but returning soon because it just plain works"

May 26, 2020

5.0

Using Gusto was smooth in terms of user interface and communication with customer support, beyond the issue I had with two payrolls primarily because I misunderstood a setting. I left Gusto for a competitor simply because of a unique deal, but have since decided to return to Gusto later this year.

Pros

Gusto just works, and the user interface is more intuitive than ADP's tools I had used before. The company also seems to be more aggressive than some competitors in integrating new services around the payroll management related to HR.

Cons

This feature has since been changed, and their user interface has changed since as well, so it should no longer be an issue: We had two separate payrolls that didn't pay out on time, and although they helped remedy the situation because of a setting issue, I was a bit disappointed that it was unclear to me what that setting described. At times, normally when competitors do sales, Gusto's pricing isn't as attractive for what is offered.

### "Practical and easy to use HR and Payroll tool"

December 13, 2023

Pros

User friendly, and intuitive to use. You can also have multiple users access as an administrator. Secure with multi-factor authentication and straightforward.

Cons

HR and Payroll can be somewhat complicated especially if you have different kinds of employment, which can warrant questions with Gusto. It can take some time to have them get back to you.

### "Good for small size businesses "

February 14, 2020

4.0

The overall experience was good. Simply put they target smaller businesses by keeping the overall cost lower than their competitors.

Pros

The solutions look good and is simple to use. It is great for companies that are starting up and need an affordable HR solution. Their support was always good and the representatives friendly. Compared to some of the bigger guys in the HR world this will get the job done if you need basic functionality.

Cons

They do not scale well when you go over 50 employees. As we grew, we had to change our HR solution to ADP which was able to keep up with everything we needed.

Reason for choosing Gusto

The main reason we chose Gusto was due to the price. For growing/starting businesses cost is a huge factor.

### "There's a reason why they call it ZenPayroll!"

May 2, 2015

5.0

After trying out the Big Guys is payroll I was lucky enough to stumble upon Zen. Sign up was easy and implementing it into our business was a breeze. Everything can be done online so it saved a number of hours getting important data into the system. They also have an amazing contractor portal where independent professionals, temp staff and other workers can see their whole payroll history. My favorite part about ZenPayroll (other than the incredibly great support) is that they handle all of the filing for you. Working with the EDD can be a paperwork nightmare and ZenPayroll takes all the pain out of it. I love getting our quarterly filing notices that say "No action is required from you at this time." It's like having a dedicated person to handle all of that boring, yet necessary and legal paperwork of hiring, taxes and payments, who always knows what to do and when. I truly believe no one does payroll for small business better than ZenPayroll.

Pros

Quick. Easy. Efficient. Completely cloud based. All the filing and heavy lifting done for you. Great user interface and paying employees and contractors is super easy. I also really like the price. You get everything for one flat rate, and you only pay for the employees that you have and the contractors you pay for that month.

Cons

I can't say that I have "cons" with ZenPayroll, but a neat feature would be to add custom check printing. Currently if you have quickbooks they have it setup, but it would be neat if you could order checks from ZenPayroll to run through your company printer that were formatted just the way you needed them. We have our own template that works now, but if they had their own checks that would be better. I would also add multiple pay rates for employees (like regular rate vs training rate) but I believe this might be somewhere on their roadmap.

### "Gusto for management"

August 9, 2020

5.0

My experience with Gusto has been great, the pricing is competitive for all the features available. Gusto allows project managers to manage time, payroll, works comp claims, and send out direct deposits right away. Employees get paid quicker and our payroll system is well-maintained since using Gusto.

Pros

Gusto helped my team organize our payroll and manage time while we're working from home. Each project manager can maintain their own team and make adjustments to their time, benefits and add new employees. This software is easy to use and navigate. Gusto even lets us pay employees sooner than other payroll managment softwares. Once all the time is input, we send the direct deposits the next business day.

Cons

Customer service is slow to respond and the onboarding process was a bit confusing, I think they could have made it clearer.
