We recommend Gusto to all of our payroll seeking clients. Cons Lately it's the constant changes in the menus/features. Outside of that... there are zero cons about Gusto. February 15, 2022 5.0 Pros I love how easy it is to find everything, the notifications for pay day, how you can view who is on vacation, the ease of requesting time off, and accessing benefits all in one place. Cons I can’t seem to view the PTO calendar on my phone, only on desktop. My FSA is through Gusto and it was a real pain trying to get one of my dentists charges approved. Also, they have worked on bringing new features/products to market, like time tracking, which is hugely useful for our team, which is completely remote. Cons For their time tracking feature, they did not yet have the ability to handle different overtime rules/laws, which would have been useful for us since we have employees all over the country in different states. Pros What I like most about Gusto is how easy it is to use. They make it very straightforward on how to fill out needed forms for taxes but also how to find forms come tax season. Finding and reading paystubs is very eay. Cons A feature that could be implemented into the government forms area would be a withholding calculator. Pros Gusto is the most approachable, user-friendly, and aesthetically pleasing HR/Payroll software I've come across to date. Normally the hierarchy of information is quite non-intuitive, but Gusto makes information easy to navigate for both me and my staff. Whether it's looking at PTO details, or other detailed information about your paycheck, the information is there and easy to understand. Bonus for the "Yay!" I get on pay day - love the voice of this software! Cons The only issue I've had with Gusto is missing notifications that payroll had to be completed early due to holidays. I help my clients to be more successful in their business, which enables me to be more successful as well. As a part of their partner program I also receive other rewards. Pros Easy to use. Employees can complete and fill out onboarding documents 25/7. Clients can easily pull up reports. Love that I can access and all clients accounts and either assist them with payroll or offer full service payroll at a reasonable price. They continue to provide quality at a reasonable price. Pros The software takes the hassles out of running payroll and even integrates into related areas. I especially like the fact that they take care of all the paperwork and deposits, so I am not in the middle of any of that and everything will be handled on time. Cons It would be nice if there was a way to make employees inactive if they are gone for a season to save on fees - currently you can only do this by terminating them and rehiring them which is not an administratively nice way of doing that. Used the software for: ### "Some positives and major negatives" May 15, 2016 2.0 The Good: Relatively simple to use, clean interface. Inexpensive compared to competitors' pricing. Great software if you only need payroll and nothing else, and/or you have fewer than 1 employee. The Bad: Huge (and potentially legally troublesome) problems arise if you're a more complex organization that synchronizes benefits from another source to this payroll. We've had issues where active employees were automatically terminated in Gusto due to syncing issues from Zenefits and manually rehiring those employees in Gusto didn't fix our payroll issues; Gusto kept auto-terminating those employees after re-hiring them. After this integration glitch was fixed with cooperation from Zenefits, I thought all was a-okay until the last payroll. The employees who were auto-terminated previously were missing from our payroll list, even though under the "Employees" feature, they were listed among the active employees. Not only did these employees not get their direct deposit, there's no way I can fix it manually in Gusto, so I will have to manually write paychecks first thing Monday morning and do my best to appease our employees. It is also a huge disadvantage when payroll problems are brought to light on a weekend day--like today--and Gusto has zero customer support on weekends. Moreover, some features, like marking payroll as "write checks" is inconsistently located in the platform; in correction payroll, the "write checks" command is on a page all its own after you've entered payroll info, but in regular payroll, it's a hidden command that you have to turn on by clicking on the icon next to "direct deposit" under each employee's payroll line. I had to cancel regular payroll multiple times when I was trying to find the "write checks" command. It wasn't until I called Gusto that the rep pointed out the "write checks" feature is in a different place in regular payroll. The process is streamlined, intuitive, and W-2s are generated quickly! At the end of the day, Gusto can save you a lot of money in regards to bookkeeping costs by hour. Unfortunately (or fortunately), I have not had to deal with customer service, so I cannot speak on that matter. Pros Best thing about Gusto: Employment taxes (941s). The fact that Gusto takes care of this is great, and can help companies avoid making accounting errors which can lead to steep penalties with the IRS. Another great thing about Gusto is their paystubs, very detailed and easy to read for employees. Lastly, on the user side, it is a very intuitive program to use. Cons Entering employee withholdings (parking, bus pass, etc.) can be a bit confusing. We have run into issues with over withholding using Gusto, but this can be avoided if you employ a bookkeeper with a fair amount of experience using the product, a bookkeeper new to the product may need to receive some training in regards to specific payroll withholdings (not including 941s, SSA, medicare). You can handle all kinds of situations with this software including notifications with money deposits, or if you need to turn in a time off notice you could do it through this software, Pros First of all I believe Gusto is more user friendly than any type of Quickbooks related software program. This program will literally keep your payroll organized and on point It actually gives me the exact amount of payroll that I owe every other week which helps me stay on track and eases up some of my frustrations crunching numbers and physically doing it myself. It literally does everything for you once you have the specific information entered, especially filing and organizing your payroll Cons It is priced a little bit more than similar programs but that is ok because I know for a fact with everything you ever buy that you will always get what you pay for. You want to be cheap, you get cheap software that you have to replace or winds up being junk, you want to spend a little extra your not paying out the butt later on new software. If you have to track hours, it beast a punch clock. It does make it easier to track hours, especially if working remotely. Pros This software does make it easy to track hours, breaks, etc. It keeps all of my pay stubs in an easy to access location and reminds me when payday is (not that I ever forget!). Cons Sometimes time-tracking can be confusing. Also, if you forget to clock out, it will keep you clocked in for 23 hours and 59 minutes, which can then make everything a bit off for the following day. It's a minor inconvenience,but one to note. It has been an incredibly user-friendly and intuitive solution for someone not familiar with accounting or payroll processes. Cons I have had nothing but success with Gusto. No issues, no payroll processing problems, nothing. They pull funds Monday for Friday pay, which might be a long gap, but also offer a shorter payroll process, where you can pull funds Wednesday for Friday pay . . . I just haven't configured that shorter process yet. Pros Everything you need is in one place. It shows your health benefits, vacation accrual rate and accrued time, pay rate, paystubs, and so much more. It is amazing for allowing the employee to manage their own records and systems. Cons It does seem to push the "brighter side" of being an employee which, while not necessarily a truly bad thing, can seem a bit artificial at times. For instance, one of their "Fun Facts" is "You could have purchased X grams of gold with your salary this year. Did you know? Gold is so rare that the world pours more steel every hour than it has poured gold since the beginning of recorded history."
