June 14, 2021 5.0 Overall, I loved it when we had a few employees. Once we started growing though, we had to switch. Highly recommend to small start ups! Pros Priced excellent and it reminds you all the documents you have to send in. Cons You have to file all the documents yourself, whereas other payroll companies do it for you. The process is streamlined, intuitive, and W-2s are generated quickly! At the end of the day, Gusto can save you a lot of money in regards to bookkeeping costs by hour. Unfortunately (or fortunately), I have not had to deal with customer service, so I cannot speak on that matter. Pros Best thing about Gusto: Employment taxes (941s). The fact that Gusto takes care of this is great, and can help companies avoid making accounting errors which can lead to steep penalties with the IRS. Another great thing about Gusto is their paystubs, very detailed and easy to read for employees. Lastly, on the user side, it is a very intuitive program to use. Cons Entering employee withholdings (parking, bus pass, etc.) can be a bit confusing. We have run into issues with over withholding using Gusto, but this can be avoided if you employ a bookkeeper with a fair amount of experience using the product, a bookkeeper new to the product may need to receive some training in regards to specific payroll withholdings (not including 941s, SSA, medicare). You can handle all kinds of situations with this software including notifications with money deposits, or if you need to turn in a time off notice you could do it through this software, Pros First of all I believe Gusto is more user friendly than any type of Quickbooks related software program. This program will literally keep your payroll organized and on point It actually gives me the exact amount of payroll that I owe every other week which helps me stay on track and eases up some of my frustrations crunching numbers and physically doing it myself. It literally does everything for you once you have the specific information entered, especially filing and organizing your payroll Cons It is priced a little bit more than similar programs but that is ok because I know for a fact with everything you ever buy that you will always get what you pay for. You want to be cheap, you get cheap software that you have to replace or winds up being junk, you want to spend a little extra your not paying out the butt later on new software. If you have to track hours, it beast a punch clock. It does make it easier to track hours, especially if working remotely. Pros This software does make it easy to track hours, breaks, etc. It keeps all of my pay stubs in an easy to access location and reminds me when payday is (not that I ever forget!). Cons Sometimes time-tracking can be confusing. Also, if you forget to clock out, it will keep you clocked in for 23 hours and 59 minutes, which can then make everything a bit off for the following day. It's a minor inconvenience,but one to note. Cons What I dislike about this product is the concierge service that I pay extra for. It is indicated if you pay for this service then the turn around time for questions would be quicker, but there are questions I am still following up on from weeks ago that have not been answered. It has been an incredibly user-friendly and intuitive solution for someone not familiar with accounting or payroll processes. Cons I have had nothing but success with Gusto. No issues, no payroll processing problems, nothing. They pull funds Monday for Friday pay, which might be a long gap, but also offer a shorter payroll process, where you can pull funds Wednesday for Friday pay . . . I just haven't configured that shorter process yet. Pros Everything you need is in one place. It shows your health benefits, vacation accrual rate and accrued time, pay rate, paystubs, and so much more. It is amazing for allowing the employee to manage their own records and systems. Cons It does seem to push the "brighter side" of being an employee which, while not necessarily a truly bad thing, can seem a bit artificial at times. For instance, one of their "Fun Facts" is "You could have purchased X grams of gold with your salary this year. Did you know? Gold is so rare that the world pours more steel every hour than it has poured gold since the beginning of recorded history." Review Source Lauren G. They need to work out some kinks on their benefits end, and also time tracking software would be a great addition. Pros I loved using Gusto for the most part. The interface is amazingly easy to use, as is running payroll. Employees loved it as well. Cons There were some definite kinks especially on the benefits side. There were multiple times where new enrollments were not processed which was annoying. It was also sometimes hard to get a hold of someone from their customer service team. Review Source SY Sarah Y. Pros Gusto is incredibly easy to use. You can keep track of payroll, benefits, PTO, etc. It's easy to set up any kind of wage garnishment needed for employees. Gusto also offers a number of employee benefits that make your team feel more engaged and taken care of. Cons The only difficulty is that we have an international team, and Gusto can only be used to track employees and run payroll in the US. Pros Gusto does a great job of making running payroll easy. The integrations are nice. The service is great. Overall I am very happy with this choice. Cons Wish the integrations with Ximble were better. We seem to have a little trouble with this every month. The hours don't come over for every employee so we are constantly double checking and editing the numbers for accuracy. Gusto is great to use from a management perspective, especially because ot helps keep in in line with labour laws, compliance etc. Pros When I was in a people manager role, Gusto made it super easy to go through the onboarding check-list and finish each task by the assigned date. Cons I wish there were more customization options for the interfaces, but that is very minor in the grad scheme of things. The app was an issue, but I don't sweat the small things. Pros As a journalist I file several invoices a week. When my employer said they were switching to Gusto I was a bit sceptical. I would have to figure out a new system of uploading documents, and worry about getting paid. It turns out I had nothing to worry about. In fact, Gusto made things easier. I was able to upload with the click of a mouse. The HR department from the station got the documents with ease, and I was promptly paid. I definitely recommend Gusto. Cons Gusto is complicated when it comes with their app. Even after having an account with the company, I was unable to log into the android version. I was confused to whether the app even had anything to do with the company. Even the color scheme is different. I had to use the web based browser. Review Source MK Marvin K. On top of all the great features it has for weekly payroll, their PPP support has been great. Pros User interface, much more friendly and easy to use then major competitor I switched from. Employee onboarding is a breeze as well as all taxes being set up properly and taken care of. Cons Direct deposits being delayed for employees because other employees payroll wasn't skipped. Later found out that I needed to skip a persons payroll that wasn't getting a check in order to make sure the other employees get their direct deposit on time. Pros That direct deposit works and you can change tax schedules easily Cons The whole GUI is absolutely horrible. If you make the slightest mistake with the mouse position it erases the entry you are working on, so if you extensively document, say bye-bye to what you typed. Also inappropriate Gusto spam being sent to email such as payday loan offers, Gusto banking offers and whatnot that this captive audience member didn't appreciate. Pros Gusto is beautiful, easy, and has all of the basics. Personally, I don't have time to spend more than a few hours each week on HR but Gusto makes running payroll and onboarding new staff quick; keeping our paperwork to a minimum; and handles benefits like a pro. Cons Gusto is missing a few features that would make it a perfect product. Timesheets are \*very\* basic. Reports can be a little cumbersome. And there's no feature or integration for performance management or applicant tracking. Pros its semi easy to pull up old docs. they sent out the quarterly taxes for a fee.
