Pros Gusto is one of those indispensable SaaS products that every business should use. They make payroll, benefits, and taxes almost laughably easy. When our company started offering a 401, it was simple to set up. And whether the employee is a W-2s or a 1099, Gusto handles all of the complexity and generates the necessary documents that your business needs. September 16, 2014 5.0 We're a small startup and don't have an HR person, so as CEO part of my job is making sure everyone gets paid on time and that the proper paperwork is accordingly filed. My previous experiences with third-party payroll companies has always been a MASSIVE headache. Onboarding new employees always required jumping through hoops and getting touch with anyone if there was a problem or I had a question took several days of phone tag. I heard about ZenPayroll a few months ago from a friend and decided to give it a try. It's made my life so much easier. Not only am I saving a ton of time (setting up your company is as easy as filling out a form, while onboarding employees sends them an online account/questionnaire so you don't get any information wrong), but their customer support is the best I've ever experienced, not just for a payroll company, but for any company. They answer my emails and tweets promptly and are exceptional at solving my problems. I'd definitely recommend them in a heartbeat to anyone looking to get set up with an easy and robust payroll system. The support that the company gives is second do none and i would say it is the best i have ever used. Cons there is nothing that i can say that i do not like about the software and if there ever is i will make sure to update this. Having to enroll for benefits, download W2S, view my paystubs - it's all very easy to figure out on my own without bothering our Chief of Staff. Also, the payroll notifications are the best. Pros Gusto is easy to use, navigate and set up as an end user. Would highly recommend to any startup or small business looking for a hassle-free HR software platform. Cons None that come to mind. August 15, 2019 5.0 The overall experience with Gusto has been great! We shopped around last December and got it right with Gusto. It would be hard to believe anyone out there could be the value that Gusto has. Pros This was exactly what we needed for our small company that just needed basic payroll. There is more functionality should we ever need it but the basic set up is a great price and covers our payroll needs. Cons There really are no downsides. The service is great at reminding to submit payroll and giving exact numbers to expect before submitting. I no longer had to worry about calculating and filing taxes as this platform did it all for me, ensuring accuracy and compliance. This gave me peace of mind and allowed me to focus on other areas of my business. Pros What I liked the most was how easy and accessible their platform is. I'm not a technical person, but I was still able to get my payroll up and running with no issues. The steps are intuitive and do not require in-depth knowledge of payroll. Also, I loved that they automatically took care of payroll taxes, which is something I always worried about. Cons There is something that I did not like so much and it is the price. While I understand that the quality and ease of use of the platform may justify a certain cost, compared to other payroll providers, I found the price to be a bit higher. Although it definitely has added value, especially in terms of efficiency and customer support, it could be a factor to consider for smaller companies or those with more limited budgets. From day one at my company I was using it without any issues. It’s extremely intuitive to use. I haven’t had the need to reach out to customer service once. I can’t imagine an easier way to manage your employee pay and PTO. Pros Gusto is extremely straightforward and easy to use. The software can be used to view and submit paid time off requests and review your employee pay information. I have the login page bookmarked and visit it weekly to keep tabs on everything. Cons Currently we use a separate application to submit expense reports, and it would be great if Gusto found a way to incorporate that functionality into the software as well- making it truly a one stop shop. Great product with great team! Cons Nothing much, Gusto has always served my needs pretty well. They took some time when I made a legal name change to my business, but the customer support was fantastic. I didn't have to visit some ridiculous webpage hosted on some server to access time-clock and salary details. My previous job still relied on paper check stubs to share information. This was a revelation. Pros I liked that it was straightforward, modern, cloud-based, and didn't complicate everything. I was the end-user as an employee, and I appreciated having Google OAuth to get in, and it was natively very easy to use. Cons I don't have any cons to speak of. Our People department moved away from it for some reason. I have to think that it was price related, or complexity. We now have Zenefits, which pulls in more jobs to be done than just payroll. It absolutely does all of the basic things you would expect. It's also extremely affordable. Cons The software might be a bit too basic, although as it is so affordable, perhaps that is the trade off. It has basic reports for users (deductions, taxes, etc) and should work just fine for taxes, but don't expect it to do much in terms of account management beyond your paychecks. September 11, 2020 5.0 Pros I loved using Gusto. It was extremely easy to use and very aesthetically pleasing. Every time I received a paycheck I'd get a fun email from Gusto and this little thing made getting my paycheck more exciting and eventful. When tax season came around Gusto made it simple to transfer my documents over to my tax portal. Overall, I think Gusto is fabulous for small to medium-sized companies. Cons My company used Gusto for the first year I was there but eventually, we switched to ADP. I much prefered Gusto, but I think we switched because Gusto is more geared towards smaller size businesses. I'd recommend that they built out their offerings to cater more toward larger operations so companies feel confident sticking with Gusto longterm. Review Source ZP Zachary P. Additionally, when hiring new employees the onboarding and simplified process of adding new team members has been a plus. Pros I am big on ease of use and user experience and what I love most about Gusto is how simple it is to use. From the onboarding process to running payroll for our employees. What's also a fantastic is the reporting to the IRS and helping us stay on track with running payroll. Cons To be honest, there isn't much I would say I like least about the Gusto. It's been a pleasurable and uneventful experience utilizing Gusto as our payroll provider. March 23, 2017 5.0 I started to use Gusto in 2015, I have been fully satisfied since! All the time I would spend taking car of HR task was used to grow my business instead. I also had trouble looking for workers comp insurance and they took care of the whole process for me. The self onboarding is awesome, saves paper and time! Pros A very complete platform for payroll, the best function is the self on boarding when hiring a new person. All you need is their name and email address and Gusto does the rest! They also make sure your business is HR compliant. Cons I wish they had a time tracker or timesheet option for my employees, however I use a separate app called BOOMR that integrates with Gusto. So it's great! I started out small with one employee and it was really easy to set up and use. Since then I've add health insurance and a 401k to it and it couldn't have been easier. Cons I provide a shift differential for weekends and staff cannot use the timesheet on Gusto to track those hours. They have to let me know how many differential hours that had and I have to add them separately when I run payroll. I love the integrations, all of the features, and the platform in general is super easy for someone wanting to do it themselves. Pros I love that it is so simple and has an elegant/easy design! I wanted something that made sense for me as a new, small business, and I always feel that there are extra resources and integrations and reports that come up that make me feel supported in my HR roles. Cons I have had a few questions on how to set up reimbursements and a few of the reps i spoke with were confused on what I was explaining, so it took a few times to get them to understand; other than that, I have no complaints. Pros Great for employer & employees both. Pay-stubs, W2 & W4 can be downloaded any time. Great reporting capabilities. Has the On-boarding capabilities. Cons Money is taken out from bank in 2 parts, Employees Net Pay & Payroll Taxes. I wish they can to separately for each type of tax like Social Security, Medicare, FUTA, State Employment etc. This way it will be easy to import into Xero or Quick-books directly.
