It is very popular with our employees. Pros Ease of use and great interface. Also Gusto working with Xero and our scheduling application Ximble. Also the support from Gusto is awesome. Cons Gusto does not handling tracking categories in Xero properly. If you want payroll details that includes both location and cost centers, Gusto does not handle this well. Makes all easy! Pros It is extremely easy to access important documents such as w-2, paystubs, and payment information. Onboarding is made extremely simple for both myself and staff. Cons I cannot think of a single issue with gusto. It has continued to improve and evolve with users needs. I have not had any issues with customer service or the software. I have never had any issues with anything I have ever needed from Gusto. It runs smoothly, and efficiently. Pros I love that every payday Gusto sends you an email letting you know that its payday, as well as how many hours you have received for PTO if that is an option for you. It gives you a layout of your taxes as well as the amount that goes into your 401k. The great thing about Gusto is that it is easy to read. I have used other services where it is harder to read, or find anything in there. Not Gusto, everything is at the tip of your fingers when you need it. I also love that they send you these fun emails telling you a fun fact about what you can do with your whole paycheck! Cons There is actually nothing that I would change with Gusto. Pros Gusto made it really easy to process payroll, stay on top of tax compliance and reporting. Combined with the price of this service it really is a great value. Makes payroll easy, and the service has been fantastic" January 8, 2019 5.0 Pros Simple interface, good integrations, makes doing payroll straightforward. So many people underestimate the value of UX - just because a service does "the same thing" doesn't mean it can't be easier and better with a well-designed interface. And since Gusto is mostly self-service, they are significantly cheaper than my previous provider (who was great, but great at twice or thrice the cost). Cons Because it's self-service, you have to get the correct information to set it up correctly. Specifically, the correct amount for state taxes was not easy to get - I had to call the TX Workforce Commission myself in order to get the rate (the estimator on Gusto's site was wildly incorrect), in order to complete the setup. Again, because it's self-serve, there is the potential to enter incorrect information and then end up paying an incorrect amount of tax, which creates a problem. It's a very caveat emptor sort of situation. The cost savings are because you're setting it up yourself. But then, if things go wrong, like if I had just taken the estimator at face value, you might end up wishing that a person had guided you through the setup process more accurately. Just check your inputs three times, not online - call the state tax office that applies to you and get the latest info directly as applied to your business. Garbage in, Garbage out. Gusto does great (as far as I can tell) with federal taxes. Pros Saves a ton of time in processing payroll! Love that they handle all the quarterly/annual tax filings for us and that they pull funds for the entire amount at the time of payroll- I don't need to think about making sure I maintain that cash for the end of period filing. I think with some tweaking and collecting user feedback (such as this) it will help them greatly overtime. Pros I like Gusto because it handles my taxes for me and makes sure that I am not forgetting anything when it comes to employing others. This is a topic I do not know much about, and when you have a company that is growing fast, you do not have the time to research and learn all of this. It's best to let an expert handle these matters, and Gusto is that 'expert' for me. Cons Honestly, it's a bit confusing. There is not a lot of clarity regarding payment schedules and deposit dates, and how to alter them based on the types of employees you may hire. I just wish it were simpler. It would be good if maybe Gusto implemented some sort of onboarding session where their team helps you set things up - because obviously employment is not as straightforward as one may hope. Pros With Gusto you are able to run company payrolls, hire new employees and dismiss whenever you want to. You get reminder via emails when it's time to run a payroll. I think one of my favorite features is that employees can access their w-2 from their account and do not have to wait for it to be mailed. It’s a great way to utilize information on the go or if you have employees who travel or work in multiple states. Pros I love the fact it is so easy to use. It keeps records for employees. It's confusing, and there are a lot of regulations, and a lot of paperwork. Gusto's online system makes it more clear than any other system I've seen, and in fact, sometimes I use it to clean up messes that other payroll services have made. I haven't seen any errors yet for my clients, and when I call about something, I've always gotten a good and useful answer. Also handy to include contractor payments for small consulting firms. Employees and contractors like the online access to pay stubs and so on. Cons Some things are a little inflexible, due to it being a piece of software rather than a service. So, for example, you can't tell it to add $100 to someone's paycheck once a month for a transportation allowance. Rather, you have to do $50 each paycheck. This works fine if you do payroll monthly or bi-monthly, but if you're on a 2-week system, you end up adding it manually each time. Anyway, just a few issues like that. I think their contractor system is limited and a bit expensive - I would love to add a way to be clearer about invoice numbers and other memo/description issues. My favorite part was it was slightly entertaining despite the function of this platform. Pros I enjoyed the animation it was fun to watch while logging in and as an employee it was extremely easy to manage my side of my pay. Cons Logging in and out sometimes could be difficult they sometimes require your phone to send you a text, but after this the app is straight forward and entertaining for its true function. Pros By far this is one of the easiest user interfaces I have worked with. We are a small business and admittedly intimidated by the challenges of HR because we had employees in multiple states, with different pay structures and custom holidays. But Gusto's platform worked better than I advertised and even complex processes are guided by simple steps in the platform. Cons I am pleased to see that they are integrating with more services, like unemployment insurance and benefits. Would love to see healthcare options as well. I wish it was all integrated into the same platform (with the same great interface) but it is not a deal breaker. The good thing is that these are available in some capacity. I have already recommended all my startup friends to use this as it is simple and priced accordingly. You can do everything in the backend as far as hiring, payroll, payments, contractors, etc. Their customer service is hands down one of the best, they take care of all the documents that need to be handled to be compliant with the IRS. They also make sure you get reminders of of docs that need to be signed as well as workers compensation insurance (a big one many individuals miss). Cons None at the moment. I have recommended this software to all my friends and colleagues that are starting out. Reason for choosing Gusto Self serve and they handle all the required docs and they also do the filing. The price is great, the UI is modern and clean, and the tool is as robust as I've seen outside of the big boys like ADP. Pros Reporting is robust and simple, pay runs are a breeze, and the price cannot be beaten. The integrations options are wide ranging for the most part--we have our QBO, TSheets, and Expensify accounts tied into their software, and it's worked really well so far. Cons Some of the more in-depth functionality can fall a bit flat -- unique benefits, pre-tax, and post-tax items are not always as robust as you would expect from a payroll provider. Kept things organized and allowed employees to easily manage their pay stubs. Would highly recommend to a company in need of a HR system. Pros I was a user of Gusto for almost a year and it was very slick. It was slick in the sense that it was simple and effective. The design didn't overwhelm me as a user and it accomplished everything I needed; clocking in, pay stubs, pro requests. Cons I don't have anything bad to say about. I will say in recent months our company has switched to a different HR provider, simply because we're growing. After seeing some of the new features with our new HR software, I can see what Gusto was missing, but all in all it was nothing major.
