You can track hours, do performance reviews, and even implement HR tools Cons When on the core plan, it was confusing to see the little ads about time tracking when I didn't actually have access to that unless I upgrade to the complete plan. We are always looks for ways to save money and Gusto helps us do just that. We don't have to hire another person to take care all of our payroll and HR needs. We can simply take care of it from our phones. Streamlines the process and makes it super simple and cost effective. Cons It's less about the software and more about me. It took a little bit of time for me to navigate the software and to figure out how everything integrates with everything else. But after a short time, it becomes intuitive. I moved to ADP for a promotional pricing. I would have moved back but ADP matched Gusto's pricing. Pros Gusto is the first service I used for payroll. They made the setup process very easy (though as a first timer it was confusing). Once it was in place, it was very easy to use (better/nicer than ADP). Cons The price. Running payroll for a single employee costs too much, but that is true for all of these services. Alternatives considered [RUN Powered by ADP](https://www.capterra.com/p/185859/RUN/) Reason for choosing Gusto Gusto was cheaper and easier to use. Whether trying to find important tax-time documents, or getting paid on time, Gusto was payroll made easy. The company had even worked with a person to handle payroll, and there were less issues moving to this automated service. Cons I feel like there were benefits that weren't really communicated to the user. When you actually login to Gusto, there is so much to explore but that's never really highlighted. Right now, a lot of people just receive the email saying their paycheck was deposited and the interaction stops there. March 4, 2019 5.0 Pros Gusto was clean, easy to navigate, and had all necessary information easily accessible. I also liked the little facts they would include in email when they notified you that you were paid! It kept it fun which I liked. Cons There wasn't anything on my end that I didn't like. Ultimately our company moved away from it because they wanted all of our systems integrated with our HRIS, and this didn't integrate with one of our other platforms. November 19, 2019 5.0 Overall pretty great, I wish they had a 1800 number line though for employees such as myself to contact. Pros This really helped the onboarding process go a lot more smoothly and it helps me every two weeks when checking my paychecks. Cons Paychecks sometimes do not come in as "direct deposit" which can be a concern for some banks and plans that people sign up for through those banks that require some form of "direct deposit". Cons everything starts breaking once you hit 100 people. in my experience gusto admits openly that they don't scale well past a certain point. We worked with our bank to turn on some extra security which blocked Gusto from getting their payment (sub $100) from the account. Gusto immediately placed our payroll and contractor pay on hold and turned off our access to support. We rectified the block within an hour of being alerted (same day as the attempt), but it takes several days for Gusto to process the payment and open payroll which is now preventing our staff from getting paid on time. Pros The online usage and wizards make the service easy to work with and set up. Cons Support is slow to answer, and for some reason access to contact support is removed when Gusto has issues with your account. Also, the available roles/permissions are too broad. I run a team, and yet if I want to give my reports a bonus, or need to document something about a report, there's currently no where in the platform to do this. Gusto has provided an easier way of doing payroll and whenever I have a problem or question, I can speak to a person fairly quickly. No hour long waits on the phone to a call center. Real people in the USA. Pros Gusto is a no nonsense payroll program! Easy to use. User-friendly. Customer service is second to none. The reporting is easy to understand, even for newbies to payroll. And they make it fun! Little characters and nuances on the website add a little brightness to a dull task. Cons Nothing. This has proven to be the best product for us. Pros The interface is very simple, and all the functionality is right there to use within one or two clicks. I also use the automatic donation feature, and I am very happy that Gusto takes care of the tax implications automatically. Cons It is incredibly difficult to find something I strongly dislike about this software. The site is well designed, the functionality seems complete, and I have not experienced any bugs. But once I tried to add remote workers, an HRA, different leave schemes and new states with their workers' compensation partner, they just don't help. You will need to do challenging workarounds for anything that is not completely standard with them. Pros It is pretty. Some aspects of it are easy to use. It integrates (kind of) to Xero Cons Very limited choices for benefits offerings. Does not support remote employees well. Only one person can talk to them. Do not assist with issues with their integrated partners. Provide glib, mostly useless support. Pros Gusto is perfect for startups and small businesses. It's reasonably priced. It can scale up with your business. As Gusto grows, the suite of related functions continues to grow (time tracking, benefits, etc). Cons They are starting to do obnoxious things - for example, they will automatically handle health insurance withholdings only if you use Gusto (or Gusto's partner company) as your health insurance broker. They are trying to eliminate any friction in their service - but it sucks for companies who have been with Gusto for a long time, and Gusto refuses to automate withholdings for any other health insurance coverage. I don't know how it compares to competitors, so I can't say it's better or worse. Pros Gusto is a service that takes care of payment and related HR issues for small businesses. It's a good service and does what it should. Cons I used Gusto on the payee end, and I felt it left a lot to be desired. As an independent contractor, payments aren't as regular as they would be for an employee. And it would be great if I could see that there was a payment in process for me. That's not something Gusto does. They will only notify you of payment when it's being sent to your account.
