Pros Using this as we speak to manage a team - makes it easy to do all payroll and I love the org chart feature. Simple, straightforward to use and does the job all online. Cons I think their marketing is a bit hokey but honestly that's about it - the system has worked very well for us and has a nice feature set and what seems to be excellent security. It is very simple to use and they recently added time keeping which is also very helpful. For small businesses, Gusto is perfect for their payroll needs. Pros Clean and easy to use interface. Great customer service. Open to new ideas. Good reporting. Cons Sometimes it's a little hard to find certain documents. If you don't mind spending hours and hours porting data, and dealing with problems then go ahead and sign up. Gusto is simply not ready for prime time. Pros Automated onboarding of new employees with W-4. Cons The customer service has been terrible. When problems occur you email their generic support. Almost every time the response is "we'll look into that and get back to you". I recently had a problem because Gusto failed to file a form. My emails went unanswered. When I finally got a human on the line, the said the tax resolution team would get back to me in 20 days. I am appalled they would not tell me that and let me twist in the wind for 3 weeks. Also the software is buggy and not at all intuitive. Gusto is not experienced, knowledgeable or correct about my local withholding rules. It also took a LONG time to import all the data. I just log in weekly to process payroll, click maybe 5 buttons at most, and done. All employees are getting paid. Brilliant. Cons Reporting. I'd like to see a list of all paystubs of a specific employee, and it's cumbersome. A table view with each payroll in a row would be great. You can set up the accounting categories for each employees paystub so you don't have to manually categorize the paystubs in quickbooks every pay period. Gusto was also very easy to set up, has a reasonable fee, and we have not had any payroll issues so far. Employees can log into their own accounts to access their paystubs, time off, etc. Cons I don't love that the quickbooks integration enters the withdrawals in a journal entry but it doesn't make a huge difference and that's the only complaint I've had so far so we're sticking with it! May 27, 2021 4.0 Overall I thought Gusto would be the solution that I needed for my company. The sales rep was phenomenal, but customer service failed, so I returned/canceled the product. Pros The overall benefits and features of this product are wonderful. Unfortunately, I never had a chance to utilize them. I had a poor customer service experience. Cons The software itself seems to be an excellent product, but I ran into a snag and called customer service for help. I had a bad experience with the customer service rep. We had a mix up in beginning because I started inputting my information on the last day of a quarter, and finished early morning of the first day of another. But they fixed what they could and paid for the mix up. Pros I like it allows 2 or 4 day direct deposit and it automatically files all paperwork with the IRS and state agencies. Pros As a small business owner, i needed a simple payroll and benefits platform for myself and employees which i can navigate myself, or have my bookkeeper run. Gusto is simple enough I can perform basic functions, and is well-known by my accounting team who recommended it to me. It makes payroll and associated taxes a breeze after a full year of running the platform. If you have less than 10 employees the price may be worth the headaches. Cons Stay away from Gusto. Why? - You and your employees see different PTO balances because the system tracks them differently - You can only have one PTO policy per employee. Moving employees between policies will delete the previous balances. If you do this mass move the system doesn't warn you until it's all gone - You can't mass update anything. Need to make the same change to all employees? Get ready to click away for days! The slowness of the system also makes this a great experience if you love wasting hours. - Customer service is useless and can take a long time to get someone on the phone. Email support takes 24 - 48 hours to respond even the smallest question. Did I mention you should stay away from Gusto? Remember you get what you pay for. Pros Verus other payroll processing companies, Gusto has complete ease of set up and payroll processing. Also, Love the benefits administration when using their benefits providers. Saves on the need for a full time HR administrator. Reasonable rate for the monthly processing and for the benefits offered. Cons Setting up accounts in new states, doesn't give you enough time to apply and receive account information before giving warnings. For example, i needed to remove one of my dependents as she got her own coverage through work, and Gusto will not let me remove her as a dependent. I had to call BCBS of MA and do it over the phone, so now the information in Gusto does not accurately reflect my healthcare coverage according to the insurance company. Pros The best part about Gusto is that it consolidates all of your payroll, benefits, & other miscellaneous HR stuff into a single place. I can log into the web platform and manage my healthcare, 401k, dental, payroll direct deposit, etc. It's great that everything is in one place. Cons Gusto has a number of bugs surrounding how they handle healthcare enrollment. Once you pick your healthcare plan and identify your dependents, it's not possible to make any changes through the platform. Review Source MP Melissa P. They've done a great job building a UI that doesn't require any training. Pros I love Gusto. It's never been easier to access my paystubs, view/request time off, and give new team members a shout out for their first day. Gusto has thought of it all and we reap the benefits of their thoughtfulness all the time. Cons This isn't really a con of the software itself, but the new flexible pay concept is something I'm not a fan of. I don't like the idea of paycheck advances because I find people are impulsive and make poor choices with them, so I was disappointed to see Gusto marketing their version of a paycheck advance. Coming from a larger company who used another system, it was really difficult to get any insight into my compensation. Gusto puts the employee in control by, for example, making it really straightforward to see past pay stubs or access insurance information. Cons I don't like receiving the payday email, as my paycheck dollar amount is displayed on a large screen for many people in my office to see. I wish it were easier to disable these notifications in settings or have the default setting hide this dollar amount. Review Source Lisa J. Meh. Pros It is VERY easy to use and the onboarding for new hires couldn't be easier. Cons I don't like having to pay for me as an owner to be paid as an employee. I believe that charging an additional user fee for this is a bit of a rip off since I'm already paying the base rate plus a per employee fee. I'm not an employee, I'm the owner. It has been very helpful to have paystub downloads at my fingertips when they were needed for purchasing my new home. I also like the simple design and ability to request off and put comments on what you are up to. Pros I like that I can access my W2's early every year, and Gusto sends and email to let me know when to expect it. Also, it is very easy to view paystubs, request time off, and see benefits. I also like that Gusto emails me to let me know when I have been paid. The design/layout of the site and cute factoids that are shared make it an enjoyable platform to use. Cons The descriptors for hours of vacation time that you have can be misleading--if you have requested hours it shows the hours you requested off as still in your 'bank' and then hours available as less.
