If you have less than 10 employees the price may be worth the headaches. Cons Stay away from Gusto. Why? - You and your employees see different PTO balances because the system tracks them differently - You can only have one PTO policy per employee. Moving employees between policies will delete the previous balances. If you do this mass move the system doesn't warn you until it's all gone - You can't mass update anything. Need to make the same change to all employees? Get ready to click away for days! The slowness of the system also makes this a great experience if you love wasting hours. - Customer service is useless and can take a long time to get someone on the phone. Email support takes 24 - 48 hours to respond even the smallest question. Did I mention you should stay away from Gusto? Remember you get what you pay for. With our company growing so fast, it would be difficult to do all the hiring paperwork, track benefits and time off, etc without their fabulous interface. Pros Verus other payroll processing companies, Gusto has complete ease of set up and payroll processing. Also, Love the benefits administration when using their benefits providers. Saves on the need for a full time HR administrator. Reasonable rate for the monthly processing and for the benefits offered. Cons Setting up accounts in new states, doesn't give you enough time to apply and receive account information before giving warnings. Head of Product Defense & Space Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Nice consolidation of benefits & payroll into one place, missing key features" November 7, 2018 5.0 My overall experience with Gusto has been positive, with one major exception. For example, i needed to remove one of my dependents as she got her own coverage through work, and Gusto will not let me remove her as a dependent. I had to call BCBS of MA and do it over the phone, so now the information in Gusto does not accurately reflect my healthcare coverage according to the insurance company. Pros The best part about Gusto is that it consolidates all of your payroll, benefits, & other miscellaneous HR stuff into a single place. I can log into the web platform and manage my healthcare, 401k, dental, payroll direct deposit, etc. It's great that everything is in one place. Cons Gusto has a number of bugs surrounding how they handle healthcare enrollment. Once you pick your healthcare plan and identify your dependents, it's not possible to make any changes through the platform. Review Source MP Melissa P. They've done a great job building a UI that doesn't require any training. Pros I love Gusto. It's never been easier to access my paystubs, view/request time off, and give new team members a shout out for their first day. Gusto has thought of it all and we reap the benefits of their thoughtfulness all the time. Cons This isn't really a con of the software itself, but the new flexible pay concept is something I'm not a fan of. I don't like the idea of paycheck advances because I find people are impulsive and make poor choices with them, so I was disappointed to see Gusto marketing their version of a paycheck advance. Pros Is simple, basic and helps with the payroll, is not expensive and most important is EASY. It's an online enrolment and all the employees can do it. Coming from a larger company who used another system, it was really difficult to get any insight into my compensation. Gusto puts the employee in control by, for example, making it really straightforward to see past pay stubs or access insurance information. Cons I don't like receiving the payday email, as my paycheck dollar amount is displayed on a large screen for many people in my office to see. I wish it were easier to disable these notifications in settings or have the default setting hide this dollar amount. Review Source Lisa J. Meh. Pros It is VERY easy to use and the onboarding for new hires couldn't be easier. Cons I don't like having to pay for me as an owner to be paid as an employee. I believe that charging an additional user fee for this is a bit of a rip off since I'm already paying the base rate plus a per employee fee. I'm not an employee, I'm the owner. It has been very helpful to have paystub downloads at my fingertips when they were needed for purchasing my new home. I also like the simple design and ability to request off and put comments on what you are up to. Pros I like that I can access my W2's early every year, and Gusto sends and email to let me know when to expect it. Also, it is very easy to view paystubs, request time off, and see benefits. I also like that Gusto emails me to let me know when I have been paid. The design/layout of the site and cute factoids that are shared make it an enjoyable platform to use. Cons The descriptors for hours of vacation time that you have can be misleading--if you have requested hours it shows the hours you requested off as still in your 'bank' and then hours available as less. I’ve hired an accountant to walk me through my business numbers, my taxes, and handle things face to face. Offering zoom meetings for face to face interactions to answer questions could be something new business owners would love if it’s not offered already. Pros I was looking for something that was sleek, modern, and accessible to employees. It was great for the employees to look at their payroll history Cons I don’t understand taxes. I would suggest a knowledge base in which explains things differently vs just referring people outward. Keeping customers also means an easy to use education based system. Maybe launching a free basic accounting platform would be great for new business owners Reason for choosing Gusto At the time it was the automation. However- I have gone with quick books as my accountant uses their program. June 5, 2018 5.0 Biggest benefit: Being able to correctly and easily run our payroll so we are compliant with all laws! Pros I really like how Gusto is extremely easy to use, on both employee and employer sides. From the employer perspective, it is only a couple steps to get a new employee or contractor up and running. And Gusto handles all the paperwork which is fantastic! Cons There really isn't anything that I don't like about Gusto. It is extremely easy intuitive and painless to use! February 18, 2019 4.0 Pros Gusto's payroll portal is a wonderful solution for the payroll issues that have been occurring in my small business. Gusto's makes payroll extremely easy to do and manage. Employees can keep their information up to date and the information is readily available. Gusto's customer support is also extremely helpful and solved a lot of our issues that were due to our negligence. Cons I have not found any issues regarding Gusto and it's software. Cons I wish they would have been more upfront concerning the percentage of my payroll donation to a nonprofit that was being removed for "fees and services." My small donation is even smaller than I had first thought because something like 10% is being removed. That seems too much, in my opinion, and i wish that would have been made more clear. I've enjoyed being a user of their software at two different companies. I also hear great things about the company culture and values, and I see that across LinkedIn and reviews of working there. Pros Very easy to use, sends quick and clear updates, spectacular UI, and a company I even wanted to work for. Cons Enterprise scalability: it has a very small team feel. They see every issue through as if you're the most important or the only client. They're thorough and they tolerate you if you're on a learning curve (we're an Australian business setting up our US operations and health etc benefits is a new and unnatural thing for a business to grapple with). The software is flawless and usability is perfect. We run our payroll in a few clicks, and that's because we don't choose autopilot. Used to run benefits thru Zenefits who made a lot of errors, and zenpayroll stepped in without hesitation or complaint and ran every correction. It's complete, not half cooked. It's how software and support should be done. Cons We are a global business, and things are done differently in other countries for payroll. For instance, we don't need to go thru the pain and inefficiently of supporting benefits in other countries. Plus there is different legislation and tax setups etc. I wish zenpayroll was configured to support payroll in other countries so companies like ours growing elsewhere could benefit from One-payroll without considering the bigger and clunkier vendors. If you're growing, most likely you're growing globally or planning to. Otherwise it's perfect.
