I've been in business for over 3 years, and Gusto has been the part of being an entrepreneur that has been the easiest. Pros It sounds cliche to say that it's plug and play, but it literally was the easiest part of starting my business 3 years ago. They have nailed the user experience aspect of payroll. Cons I honestly can't think of any. There is so little to complain about with Gusto. Reason for choosing Gusto I was an employee at a company that used it and it was my first choice when I started my agency. Review Source Pam P. Changing my direct deposit information was also a very easy task. My favorite thing would have to be the UI. Cons There were no cons that I experienced while using gusto for two years. It has solved the security concerns we felt when exploring other options and vendors. Pros As a user, I appreciate the nice breakdown of my paycheck right in my email. It's easy to see where my money came from, how much was withheld, and why. Plus, updating profile preferences/details is very easy and doesn't require you to go through an admin, which increases the privacy and security of your personal information. Cons The only con I can think of is that Gusto does not ask you if you are ok with your paycheck amount being shown in your email alert (every time you get paid it emails you). This wasn't a problem for me, but I am a proxy for my boss's email, and I think she was embarrassed the first time I saw it come through and clicked on it without realizing what it was. Pros Gusto is easy to look at and use. The customer support is always quick and kind. Cons I do not have any cons about Gusto. As an employee, it is a joy to log in and see all my information. Pros Gusto makes it easy and fun to get paid. The software provides a transparent view of each paycheck you receive with all taxes and fees being showcased. Gusto also provides email updates when things change or a payday is upcoming. It was really simple and easy to get onboarded too. Cons Honestly, there is nothing I dislike about Gusto. I wish my company had never chosen Gusto Cons Sending emails with financial details in them, BY DEFAULT. The fact that their paid holiday calendar can't be changed, despite the message at the top that says, "These holidays are set by your employer and can be changed at anytime." But that's not true. Gusto claims it's the "standard", and they can't be changed. You can't opt out of emails. By default your first email contains the amount of your paycheck and it's sent via email which is entirely insecure. You can't opt out of their stupid emails. Now I constantly get emails about company surveys, and every time I get paid. I don't need them, but can't opt out of them. Customer service didn't care about the financial information of mine that they released to the entire damn world. Gusto does not care about informational security. Review Source AG Allison G. It’s something that really should be straightforward and yet even huge companies sometimes ask employees to fill out arcane spreadsheets and crunch numbers to report their hours. So much better to have it all in one simple place — better for the employees and the HR/accounting managers. Cons They make asking for referrals a very prominent feature of the site. Too prominent. I don’t know many small business owners…how many referrals am I going to give? And yet I accidentally find myself on a referrals tracking page at least once a week. Pros Super easy-to-use interface and hands-free as they will calculate taxes for you. They will also check all compliance requirements by your state to make sure you are compliant. You can easily integrate Worker Comp, Health Benefits as well. Overall just super easy to use for a pretty low cost. Cons It is only suitable for smaller businesses and smaller organizations, it will get costly once your employees on payroll exceed 10 people as they charge per person per payroll. December 13, 2018 5.0 Pros I run a small photography business with a payroll of just 2-3 employees. Even so, payroll and all the forms involved was a giant hassle for me every month! Gusto has really solved that problem and has been a giant time and life saver for me. Where I used to spend hours each month I now spend literally less than 10 minutes! And the customer support has been top notch all along the way! Love these guys! Cons The price is maybe a little higher than some of the others out there, but they have been totally worth it!
