As a small startup we don't have a lot of resources to handle payroll and hr, and using gusto made things much easier. Getting started with the software was self-explanatory, and they had good tips for how to set up the proper registrations in each state where we have employees. They send helpful but not obnoxious emails to keep you on track with payroll, and file all of your payroll taxes for you so you don't have to. Definitely recommend over trying to do anything yourself without the expertise. Cons There's a lot of paperwork to set up at the beginning. Not sure that that's the software's fault or just the fault of doing payroll. I had to call a number of the state's tax departments manually to make sure that everything was filed and set up properly. Made payday fantastic and easy to see and control. Time off tracking was great too Cons Their payday advance sales pitch was really annoying and you couldn't turn it off. Not only it's cost effective than ADP, it's built intuitively for HR professionals. It doesn't seem like they have acquired many different companies for different parts of the software like ADP has done. Pros Gusto handles payments between us and our employees. They are very fast and easy to use and learn. Cons Sometimes they are harder to get sold of customer service. Pros It's really easy and intuitive. It took only a few minutes to get everything configured, and maintaining it is a breeze. So if you want an HSA for your employees. Or disabilities insurance. Or workers comp. Or health insurance, they can help you through all that. You can do contracts through it as well. 401K (he has it with Vanguard so as its better rate). Employment Tax Reporting & Payment. New Hire Reports. Workers Compensation Insurance. Labor Law Posters (everything you need to stay complaint). All that is included. Pros Super user friendly dashboard. You can run Gusto multiple times a month for the same cost. (ADP and other payrolls cost more money per run). Cons Doesn't provide household employees or some countries in it's international payroll. Paychex: \* similar to ADP has a bunch of extra fees to file W2s, 1099s, and even eSignatures... \* if you have multiple employees in different states it’s going to cost extra. \* Not super user friendly \* Do have household employees. Multiple late paychecks causing me to miss bills. Being told it is the busy season is a poor excuse. It is friday, and now I have to go a whole weekend without pay. Gusto has added more stress to my life than it has fixed. We will definitely be using a different software or I will find a job that does not use gusto. Pros The only thing that was useful with gusto was nothing. Cons There has been atleast 4 times that my paycheck was late, causing me to be late on bills that I have. When called and asked about it, their excuse was "this is our busy time". I bet they still get their paychecks on time though. I recommend this for new startups and full-blown companies. Cons So far so good, our team hasn't had any issues with Gusto. When they run into any issues the support team is really great. Pros Gusto is incredibly easy to use--things are easy to find, the interface is pretty and easy to navigate. The customer service is \*outstanding\* over email, and I have used their chat feature for help more than once, and always get the help I need. Gusto also integrates with other services we use (Pilot, Brex + Guideline), which is super convenient. Cons Zero cons that I can think of right now. I’ve used it at my last two companies and the HR software prior to that was inferior. I wish Gusto did variable comp (commissions) for sales reps too but besides that it’s pretty solid Pros Gusto is a great one-stop-shop that I’ve used at my past two Series B stage start ups. It’s nice to see all my benefits in one place and easily access my paystubs and W-2s. I also like the company directory that shows my other colleagues info and birthdays (just discovered this the other day). Cons As a user the paystubs don’t display well on a mobile device. I have to get on my computer to check them and in the morning when it’s payday and I want to see my $$$ it’s like I’m turning my phone in awkward movements to see it! Review Source Ena A. This software has been one of the best decisions I have made in my business. It makes payroll a breeze and it even automatically takes care of all my healthcare and other benefits. If you are looking for a payroll software then I would not hesitate to pick up gusto. Cons Honestly, I can't seem to think of a con. When I need support I get it and I get it quickly. We also were able to switch contractors to payroll to prevent liability issues. Pros I love that Gusto files payroll tax reports on behalf of the client. It takes a lot of stress off of my clients because they don't need to remember the periodic filing dates. Cons Sometimes it is difficult to find the correct reports for Accounting information. Pros I enjoy that Gusto Payroll is compatible with Quickbooks, and will allow a certain number of users per account. Cons One of my least favorite aspects about Gusto is that each employee’s information must be manually entered each pay period. Pros Easy to use and effective for managing our small business. Price is appropriate for how much management we need. Very user friendly and walks you through everything you need for compliance step-by-step. We were able to get a hold of customer service very easily when we had a question. The auto-generated PPP forgiveness information was also great. Cons Our payroll schedule didn't sync up to any of the options but it was still easy to use to run payroll. It ensured proper deductions were taken which was very nice. Pros It was easy to setup, easy to manage. Payroll was issued on time without any issues and overall offered a solid platform. Great integrations with other software including Xero accounting! Cons It's base cost per month is expensive vs. their competitors. It needs some work on the features front and customer support/service. Sometimes would take days for a response from them. October 23, 2018 4.0 Pros Before using Gusto, payroll administration used to be a full time job for me. Since using Gusto, I have been able to focus more on my business than payroll. I love how easy it is to setup new employees, track PTO, setup employees direct deposits and manage it all from a dashboard. Cons The service costs more now but has added alot of features. We switched to Gusto, and it has streamlined things. Our checks are automatically deposited, we don't have to worry about manually filing payroll taxes, and it's easy for us to quickly see where your payroll stands and how everything breaks down within their online portal. Pros The Gusto system is simple to use and manage. Taxes are automatically filed, checks can be split multiple ways, and it's cheaper than bigger names like ADP. Cons Nothing bad to report.
