My particular account has had some issues to resolve (nothing to do with Gusto's service, although it is the reason for my needing to be in touch with customer service which has caused some frustration). If it were not for our outside issues, I think Gusto is fantastic, and I look forward to continuing to use it once everything on my end is ironed out. Pros Easy to use, walks you right through everything you need to know, easy to set up employees AND contractors, does all the filing for you, makes payroll simple, which I really needed help with. Cons Some of the set up, specifically regarding previous reporting and historical taxes, was confusing. Also, I'm on the fence about the customer service. They are very nice and helpful when you reach them, but I have had one call scheduled when no one actually called and I had to try back for a week to reach my person. Review Source MH Michael H. Owner Accounting Used the software for: 6-12 months ### "Affordable but poor" May 3, 2019 3.0 I chose Gusto because they seemed to have it all - great price, online access, intuitive software, etc. But after using them for about a year or more I wish that there was another company that I could find to replace them. Their customer support takes several days to resolve simple software issues (e.g. pay period change feature won't work) and the assigned "partner" at Gusto is just a glorified salesman. But I ultimately stay with Gusto because most of my clients are single-member S-Corps and don't need all of the bells and whistles other HR platforms force you to pay for. Pros Auto pilot payroll, self-help online payroll, intuitive software, affordable. Cons Customer support, software glitches, tax filing mistakes. Owner Construction Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Advertise easy transition, it was not" February 25, 2020 1.0 They sold us on everything we needed to hear up front and when it came to moving forward, with each new phase, something we thought we understood to be "easy" was not as "easy" as it was sold. I pulled the plug on them right before go-live. Pros I loved their sales pitch. They made it seem like everything we needed and prioritized was going to be easy to get and transition from QBO payroll. Cons Everything they sold us was a lie. The transition from Intuit that was supposed to be seamless was not. The payroll advance feature that was the primary reason for switching was limited and not what we expected. They sold it as the same as Intuit but it was not. Much more labor intensive and human error prone. President Accounting Used the software for: 1-2 years ### "Best value for very simple payroll" February 18, 2022 3.0 For my clients that have 1 or 2 person payroll that are the same from month to month, Gusto is an easy, simple, inexpensive choice that works well, and representatives have been helpful with routine issues. However, when issues arise, it's been time intensive to resolve, and in one instance the Gusto representative failed miserably and caused extensive and costly issues with the IRS. Pros Gusto online portal is simple to use, and their comparatively inexpensive, transparent pricing is the primary reason why I refer my clients to Gusto. Cons The technical support team at Gusto doesn't really understand payroll, they only know how to instruct you to use their system. I've used dozens of softwares in the space before hand and Gusto blows all of them out of the water. Cons Customer services does not include CPAs. Much of what we are relying on is Tax assistance. Since it is cloud based you can use it anywhere, which I've found especially useful when I work from home! I also love their support for paperless solutions, just the icing on the cake for a very modern payroll portal. Gusto gets the job done for inputting payroll, tracking time, vacation time, on both ends. Pros Gusto is super easy to use for employers and employees. Our employees love the interface and the ability to clock in thru their phones. Also the ability to check their paystubs and W2s. Plus, being able to see recent paystubs and year to date statistics on hours worked, salary, taxes, etc. is nice too. Cons It would be more convenient if users could access their commuter benefits without having to log into another portal (benefits card manager). Not being able to submit transit benefit claims with a valid, official receipt is not very convenient. The support team said they will only accept manual claims (receipt) if the benefits card was denied. However, that is not practical because I ride public transportation everyday and would have to have my transit card "denied" each time for me to be allowed to submit receipt claims. The support team denied some transit claims stating the claims were prior to Gusto managing the account and equated it to health insurance. However, the situation is completely different because my transit benefits were all transferred over to Gusto from Zenefits and the money is just sitting in the account. If it were like health insurance, that money is gone and not sitting in my account ready to be used/reimbursed. Review Source CH Celine H.
