Pros Our products all have length options, price options, etc. I liked that I could create one option set - for example, I could set all of the lengths we had and the price increase for each length- and then apply that to multiple products as opposed to having to go into each individual product and creating options. I think it's one of the most popular, high quality, user friendly eCommerce platform out there. Pros The tech support is really helpful whenever you get stuck with something. They're quick and very knowledgeable. The product itself is very user friendly in terms of managing your inventory, shipping rates and individual products. Cons For me, it was hard to edit or create custom sections in the theme file. Also, the paid version of themes are pretty pricey. Used the software for: ### "It was an amazing deal, now it's a little less so" November 28, 2016 3.0 I used Big Commerce for about 3 years and it did a lot of things very well and let you customize it however you wanted. A few things here and there were a little buggy like having to put free shipping on a digital product, but it was clearly tailored for product sales so that was our own fault. We wished there was a way to change that but it isn't available at the moment. When we signed up the product was incredibly cheap, to run a store that did $180k in sales/month. This past summer they raised our rate significantly but it still is a good deal. If you are a low volume high price store the pricing is bad but if you are selling a lot of under $200 items I can see their pricing model costing a lot of money to run each month. Eg. freight is a BIG issue in our case, as our company is selling bulky and heavy items, where a miscalculated price may be costing us quickly in excess of $50 on a single order. • the system cannot handle "cubed weight" (by volume instead of weight) as charged by many transport companies • you cannot define shipping method per item (eg. we send small items by Post, large items by freight forwarder) • you cannot charge a handling/packaging fee for individual items Support: forget it! I've waited for over a week to have a simple ticket resolved, a post in the "Community Forum" (second support venue) is still without a single reply after 6 days!! Support staff seems to be of little inside knowledge when it comes to the coding (and resulting errors) of the software, so technical questions bounce back and forth \[BigCommerce has always vacancies for Support\]. Pros \+ Looks easy - but looks are deceiving. Still fine for a limited product range and simple merchandise. Cons \- Shipping calculation only works for small items (fine to sell phone sleeves or swimwear) - Support often takes over 1 week to resolve a problem - Software bugs take a long time to be acknowledged and even longer to be solved Review Source Faiyaz T. This obviously saves a lot of time and money rather than building a store from scratch with a team of developers. Cons I must say I was not very impressed with big commerce every time I've used them. Having used Shopify for several years, I got very spoiled with their ease of use and powerful coding languages (mainly Liquid). Big commerce was not very developer friendly, I found it's interface and documentation to be rather lacking and a bit difficult to navigate through. It offers some of the best web integrations that I have seen, and makes it incredibly seamless to create a website and manage orders, shipments, and customer profiles and communication. It's well-worth the sticker price! Customer service is also top-notch and quick to answer questions or problems.
