### "Awesome project management tool!"

January 31, 2026

4.0

Pros

What I like most about Freedcamp is how much functionality it offers without forcing upgrades. The free plan provides real project structure, task ownership, deadlines, and collaboration tools that allow our nonprofit to operate efficiently, stay accountable, and scale systems without adding financial strain.

Cons

One drawback is limited task visualization options. Calendar, timeline, and advanced task views would make things easier to see workloads, deadlines, and dependencies at a glance.

### "Construction Company Backbone"

September 15, 2025

5.0

My overall experience has been excellent. It’s become the backbone of how we manage projects, and I honestly don’t know how we’d stay as organized without it, because I sure know we weren't before we found it. It gives us structure, accountability, and a single place where everything lives—tasks, discussions, policies, and even issues that pop up. It’s not just software we use; it’s part of our daily workflow, and it has genuinely made us more efficient as a team.

Pros

What I really like about Freedcamp is how it keeps everyone accountable without making things complicated. The task assignments and milestone tracking give us a clear picture of who’s responsible for what, and the time tracking is simple but effective. The built-in discussions make a huge difference. we don’t lose important conversations in email anymore, everything stays tied to the project. I also like the Wiki feature because it gives us one place to store policies and project info that anyone on the team can pull up when they need it. The issue tracker is another big plus, it helps us log problems as they come up, assign them, and follow them through until they’re actually resolved. For me, it’s the mix of accountability, organization, and transparency all wrapped into an affordable price that makes Freedcamp stand out.

Cons

Honestly, there isn’t much I dislike about Freedcamp. Every tool we’ve tried has its quirks, but with Freedcamp I haven’t run into anything that feels like a real drawback. The features we use work the way we need them to.

Reason for choosing Freedcamp

When we were evaluating tools, we looked closely at both Basecamp and Procore. Basecamp is good for basic task management, but it felt too limited for the complexity of construction projects—we needed more than just to-do lists and simple messaging. Procore, on the other hand, is powerful but comes with a steep learning curve and a price tag that didn’t make sense for our needs. Freedcamp struck the right balance. It gives us accountability tools like task assignments, milestones, and issue tracking, but also adds features like discussions, a Wiki, and time tracking without being overly complicated or expensive. It was the best fit for how we actually work day to day.

### "Freedcamp for Small Nonprofit Teams"

March 5, 2026

5.0

Our nonprofit's communications committee uses this to manage social campaigns, newsletter production, design tasks, and email marketing. We tried Trello but switched to Freedcamp — we liked the UI more and it felt like a better fit. Before this we relied on email threads and Google Docs, which made it hard to stay organized. Good option for any small team that needs to stay on top of tasks without a lot of setup.

Pros

Very easy to get started with and intuitive to learn — our team picked it up right away. We can assign tasks, set due dates, and everyone knows what they're working on. We like being able to comment and attach files directly to tasks, and having separate boards for each area keeps everything from getting mixed together.

Cons

There really are no cons for a small team with our needs. A larger team may find it lacking in features.

### "Not the most flexible tool on the market"

March 7, 2018

3.0

It helped us in our earlier stages of project management and team alignment

Pros

We used Freedcamp for a few months and it really helped us align our team's projects and tasks. Intuitivne and easy to use, it did the job it was supposed to do.

Cons

It's too basic. You cannot edit project phases - there are only 3 basic stages : to do, in progress, done. If your team is practicing scrum, you see the problem. I think it's a good tool to start with, but as your appetites and team's projects get more complex, it will become obsolete.

Response from Freedcamp

March 8, 2018

We think that each task can be only in progress, not in progress or completed but true - not in progress task can have a clarification sub-status like 'waiting for a feedback' or 'postponed' and we do consider adding sub-statuses in the future. Things like Testing, Review - task lusts can be used to handle. task in Testing task list will still be in progress, not started or completed because if you set it as status you will never know if actual testing phase not started, in progress or completed. To handle this in Kanban view we plan to allow to switch Kanban view to show columns as task lists in addition to by status available now. Hope it helps what is planned and what to expect. ### "Love Freedcamp"

April 7, 2025

5.0

Outstanding project management tool! Love it!

Pros

I am absolutely blown away by how Freedcamp has helped organize the Philadelphia Folk Festival and support the Philadelphia Folksong Society, especially given that it’s all managed by an incredible team of dedicated volunteers. Freedcamp has truly been a game-changer for streamlining the planning and coordination of such a large-scale, volunteer-run event. As a volunteer myself, I can honestly say that Freedcamp has made the entire process so much easier and more efficient. With its intuitive project management features, we can easily track tasks, communicate, and stay organized as we work together to bring the festival to life. The platform allows the festival’s volunteer team to manage everything all in one place. The ability to assign tasks, set deadlines, and share updates in real-time has made a huge difference in ensuring everything runs smoothly and on time. Freedcamp is especially valuable given the scale of the 62 year old Philadelphia Folk Festival. It helps manage tasks carried out by more than two thousand volunteers working in different areas, all with the shared goal of making the festival a success. Freedcamp’s user-friendly interface ensures that everyone, no matter their role or experience level, can stay on top of their responsibilities and contribute effectively. It’s helped create a seamless flow of communication, making collaboration between teams, artists, and staff effortless. Beyond the festival, Freedcamp also supports the Philadelphia Folksong Society’s year-round activities, allowing volunteers to stay organized and manage community events, and outreach efforts. The platform’s versatility is key in helping the Society continue its mission to nurture and celebrate folk music. For an event that relies entirely on volunteers, Freedcamp has been indispensable in turning what could be a chaotic and overwhelming task into a manageable and enjoyable process. It’s clear that Freedcamp’s project management tools have played a huge role in the continued success of the Philadelphia Folk Festival, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the positive impact it has had on this beloved community event.

Cons

Could use a bit of work on navigation and gui

### "Best value, intuitive, highly recommend"

July 18, 2025

5.0

Overall, I found it intuitive, well organized and easy to build with teams. You def can’t beat the price! It’s free for the basic plan that has a lot of features. I upgraded to the pro plan to get the recurring event option. I still pay less/year than I did per month with other programs.

Pros

I found Freedcamp to be very intuitive and I love the outlook integration that allows me to save emails as comments to easily find my zoom links or info needed for a project without having to scour my inbox! I tried many other platforms that were much more costly but didn’t integrate as nicely before I settled on Freedcamp. It’s fast, easy, and keeps me organized for sure!

Cons

The mobile app has the basics but not as much as the desktop version. Although I don’t find that I need as much info when I’m on my phone. Def would still recommend.

### "Small business, big changes through Freedcamp"

April 9, 2025

5.0

Overall, it's allowed our small team a general and clear oversight on tasks, management and timelines- it's really helped us shape our next steps.

Pros

Ease of use- from setup moving forwards has meant that me and my team have been able to get moving with the projects fast, and transparently.

Cons

I'm using the free version and so actually what I'm missing is access to the Gantt charts, which are available on the Pro.

### "Freedcamp Simplified Our Event Planning for Women Techmakers and GDG Montrea"

September 13, 2024

5.0

As event organizers for Women Techmakers Montreal and GDG Montreal, managing the logistics of multiple tech events is a challenge. When our team started looking for a tool to streamline our planning, Freedcamp stood out from the rest. We were in need of a solution that could help us coordinate tasks, track progress, and keep everyone on the same page. Freedcamp offered exactly that, with its simple yet effective task management and project organization features. The calendar function quickly became one of our favorite tools, giving us a clear visual timeline for every event we plan. We can easily assign tasks to team members, set deadlines, and monitor progress to ensure nothing falls through the cracks. Freedcamp’s collaborative environment has empowered our team to work more efficiently and with greater confidence. Planning technology events, from workshops to conferences, has never been more organized or stress-free. It allows us to focus on creating valuable experiences for our community, knowing the details are well managed. We look forward to continuing to use Freedcamp as we grow our events and our team. If you're organizing complex projects like ours, we highly recommend giving it a try!

Pros

One of the best things about Freedcamp is its intuitive task management system. It simplifies assigning tasks, setting deadlines, and tracking progress, all in one place. The calendar view is especially helpful for visualizing event timelines, ensuring that nothing is overlooked. Its collaborative features make it easy for teams to stay organized and work together efficiently, which is perfect for managing multiple projects like tech events.

Cons

One thing I dislike about Freedcamp is the lack of a built-in feature to set time estimates on tasks. For project management, especially in tech or development-focused teams, being able to estimate the time required for tasks is essential for better planning and resource allocation. Without this feature, it becomes harder to track whether a project is on schedule or if tasks are taking longer than expected. While you can work around this by using labels or comments, a dedicated time estimate feature would make task tracking much more efficient.

Alternatives considered

[Trello](https://www.capterra.com/p/211559/Trello/)

Reason for choosing Freedcamp

Choosing Freedcamp over Trello can be beneficial if you need a more comprehensive project management tool. Freedcamp offers integrated features like calendar and timeline views, task hierarchies, and time tracking, making it suitable for complex projects. It also provides better value with its free features compared to Trello, which often requires paid plans or integrations for similar capabilities. Freedcamp's collaborative tools are also more built-in, while Trello is better suited for simpler, visual task management.

We like how easy it is to set up projects, tasks, time tracking, Slack integration, comments, and more. It's really got everything our small nonprofit needs. We used Asana for a while and it was good, but some staff found it clunky. Freedcamp is not clunky at all!

### "Freedcamp Review – Company Use"

August 30, 2024

5.0

Our overall experience with Freedcamp has been outstanding. It has become an essential part of our team’s workflow, helping us manage projects with ease and efficiency. The platform is intuitive, making it easy to onboard new team members quickly, and the customization options allow us to tailor it to our specific needs.

Pros

What we love most about Freedcamp is its versatility and user-friendly interface. It offers a comprehensive set of tools for project management, all in one place, making it easy to collaborate with team members, manage tasks, and keep everything organized.

Cons

While Freedcamp is overall an excellent tool, one area for improvement could be the mobile app. Although it offers a lot of functionality, it sometimes feels less intuitive and a bit clunky compared to the desktop version.

### "Extraordinary Value, Flexibility, Features, Support, UI/UX that keeps improving "

July 30, 2020

5.0

My consulting, ops and support support teams (from 3 to 20) have been using Freedcamp since 2017. Started with the free version which was met earlier requirements and quickly upgraded to the Business Plan. The platform has consistently met/exceeded my requirements for the wide range of use cases that my company encounters as we help internal and external clients with all aspects of business and product launches, turn-arounds, and M&As. The Freedcamp leadership, dev and support teams have always been responsive, they listen closely to the users, meet promised release dates and quickly roll out fixes and improvements that match or are better than competing platforms and customer feedback/requests

Pros

Features and Functions that match or greatly improve upon other all the popular platforms I've used Clean, customizable, well designed and easy to learn and use UI / UX Very easy to deploy, onboard new users (internal teams, distributed workgroups, and contractors and clients) Powerful and flexible for both experienced users & project managers (agile and waterfall) and for people with limited to no tech skills Helpful and intuitive dashboard, reporting, tracking, drill downs, integrations with popular workgroup and collaboration platforms including Microsoft, Google, Dropbox, etc Fast and continuous platform improvements Cost/Benefit/Feature set offers a much better value than other platform I've used or vetted

Cons

The CRM module is functional and usable, and may meet the needs of organizations that are seeking a single platform for project management, support, and customer contact management - but it's not as mature or feature-rich as many popular stand-alone 3rd party CRMs.

Reason for choosing Freedcamp

Cost/Benefit/Feature set offered a much better value than other platform I've used or vetted

My teams typically work across Project Management platforms with a wide variety of complex external business situations, cultures, users, skills and competencies, etc - and subsequently need to manage and adapt internal workflows with external customer. Freedcamp has been the easiest to use and adapt to every situation and user as we work simultaneously in customer deployments of Asana, Basecamp, Excel spreadsheets, Slack, Teams, or the freemium platform de jour. I have often heard my team say "why can't I do \[insert function, use case or feature\] in XYZ Platform like I can do in Freedcamp?

### "Great (Unknown) Project Mgmt Tool"

October 7, 2020

5.0

I use Freedcamp every day and love it. It is general enough to be useful in any industry, but it has enough features and functionality to be useful for specific industries like mine (legal) that have a significant need for quality project mgmt software.

Pros

I can't say enough good things about Freedcamp plus it has so many features, it is hard to pick just the best one. I judge software, in part, on how much I enjoy using it. Is it useful, beneficial, or even fun to use? Or, does it leave me disappointed, confused, or frustrated. Freedcamp is a joy to use, and it helps me keep my projects on track as well as my coworkers. I am surprised it is not as well known as some competitors like Trello. It should be!

Cons

Freedcamp has some complexity in terms of customizing projects, groups, etc. It can be done but there is a slight learning curve.

### "Freedcamp is a hidden gem"

June 23, 2020

5.0

Mainly used for project, incident, and help desk management.

Pros

The dashboard, task list, and multi-project tracking are the best features of this software. Most often used features like task priority, progress, status, etc. are one-click or drag and drop. Easily see all tasks across one or more projects Task list summaries contain all the needed details one one line including status, progress, assignee, start, etc. I use the multi-project task view all the time as it is easy to sort and filter tasks on a variety of fields and save those filters. The UI is clean and uncluttered. Flexible email notification system for tracking status changes. Using the Lite/Minimalist Plan, but the Free plan has everything most organizations need for project and task management. The free plan blows away many other project and task management offerings.

Cons

Freedcamp has a very good multi-level and detailed user, role, and permission management structure, but the UI for managing this is more complicated than it needs to be.

### "Almost perfect, but not quite"

July 30, 2020

4.0

Pros

When you get down to it, it is pretty simple. I've had to spend more time than i prefer on setup. Wish there was a service for that piece.

Cons

It has been a beast to implement and drive users to the tool. The lag in updates hurts us as times when new things are added, we have to wait a solid 2-3 min before they show up for the team. This lag is just enough time for "i don't see it on my freedcamp" emails. I also wish there was a better way to limit view to team members. This is what is on your plate today, period.

### "Could not operate without this piece of software (now)"

August 13, 2020

5.0

As I mentioned earlier I could not operate my business with confidence without Freedcamp. It has become a integral part of my system and processes and I would recommend people give it a go. You will just have to familiarize yourself with the way it operates and once you have mastered that, the world is your oyster!

Pros

I purchased Freedcamp for the primary purpose of task management with my team. As the manager (and owner) of my business I recognise how critical systems are to be able to deliver consistent, quality results to clients. This is where Freedcamp shines. It helps me to stay on top of the recurring tasks that would normally be a manual process. Now I have one central location where I can take a birdseye view of all the tasks within my business and the easy to chat options within the Freedcamp platform facilitates team communication (much easier than having to go in and out of different pieces of software). I most definitely could not operate without Freedcamp in my day to day.

Cons

Getting everything started was a bit of a challenge in the beginning. I didn't find the options as intuitive as I would have liked. For example, creating a repeating task that occurred every week was not as easy as I have found in other software. This prompted me to reach out to support to discover the solution. To Freedcamp's credit support was quick and helpful and once I understood how to create a repeating task - my utilization of the software grew. The views in the dashboard can be a bit overwhelming at times - however this is customizable to your likes and dislikes.

### "unmissable tool in the chain."

October 20, 2020

Pros

For me the setup and getting used to it was a matter of seconds. I use other company supported systems that hold loads of info and are not easy accessible. with freedcamp I have a very clear view on the selected portion I want to manage. using it for yrs and keeps doing the job.

Cons

Allthough my experience is very good, I don't get that many colleages liking this software. the learning curve seems to be to high and usage of the tool usually drops dead in a few weeks, despite my effort of promoting and supporting it. for small project teams that only last a few weeks I don't even bring it up anymore.. although that would be the perfect situation to deply freedcamp.

Great free offering. (Mostly) good UI. Rich featureset. Good support.

Cons

I have minor UX gripes, but that's me being a developer. Overall it's fine.

### "Thank-you Freedcamp! You've stepped up our Volunteer Capacity!"

June 22, 2024

4.0

We are a committee under Ecology North that is dedicated to promoting safer, more inclusive streets, public transportation and electric vehicles. We have a variety of different types of volunteers. Some are very active and creating several projects every month, while others take more of a backseat, helping in research and different ways. We started to notice that when some people were writing lots of emails and updating people on a daily basis, other volunteers were starting to become a little overwhelmed. We didn't want our volunteers to get burnt out, and decided to do a little research into online project management and people management software that wouldn't scare people away. We were in luck! We found Freedcamp - and we saw that they offered a free version for Not-For-Profit entities such as us. It was extremely easy to set up, and within a day, we could start isolating tasks and after educating our volunteers on how to minimize notifications, we think that the environment of our committee started to benefit from this change. The people who love being active and need to organize events, programs and projects could go nuts within Freedcamp, and then very carefully we select the appropriate volunteers to join a project. We are still learning how to best use Freedcamp, but we feel confident that it will continue to provide us the support we need as our volunteer hub can ebb and flow. Thank-you Freedcamp for offering your services to the not-for-profit community free of charge. In a way, you become another one of our dedicated people, pushing and supporting, lifting up our cause so that we can keep doing what we do best.

Pros

I like the ease of creating a new project/task, assigning it to people, and the immediate interactions that the projects can produce.

Cons

It can sometimes become overwhelming when there are a lot of projects running, and people can't find which projects they are working on. So we are still working out these kinks to be a little more organized.

### "A good old friend"

November 26, 2023

5.0

Suppose you want a simple task and project manager with affordable price options, with a free tier that will surely be enough to try and get to know the application. In that case, Freedcamp is undoubtedly an excellent option. Once you are sure that this product is for you, and you want to manage your business projects with this tool, I suggest you opt for the Business plan. In this plan you will see that the functionalities to which you will have access give you everything you need to manage your projects and tasks in the best way, whether alone or as a team.

Pros

It's almost been seven years since I first used Freedcamp. From the first moment, it became one of my favorite applications for task and project management, especially when I started a project in collaboration with a partner. Among its hooks was its attractive value per user and its kind free tier. It stood out for being one of the first applications that did not cut the wings of any user who wanted to try practically all its functions for nothing in return, without the odious need to include credit card information. Being 2023, Freedcamp has included new features, improved its user interface, and continues to offer prices that are affordable to any user. The option to have “collaborators” who can view and comment on your projects is one of the best free features a company can have available when managing projects.

Cons

Freedcamp is an application for task and project management that will surely be useful and easy for any user, especially those just getting to know these types of applications. However, in my case, Freedcamp is my secondary project manager, which I use weekly for side projects to my main job. This is mainly due to its add-on system. While this system works very well to keep the application simple and only show the functions you want to use, activating and deactivating modules is something I prefer not to do in these types of applications.

### "My Favorite Project Management Application"

March 10, 2018

5.0

Freedcamp is an amazing tool that works well in small businesses with no need for Program or Portfolio Management. Managing multiple projects at that level might not be an easy thing to do. I track a dozen projects at any given time, but my business structure is simple and does not rely on overly complex resource allocations or time management... I am a small shop managing projects as needed, keeping tabs on time spent for billing, and track of tasks to be completed. Freedcamp does provide a means of tracking milestones as well and fits the bill to my exact business needs. From what I can see with my daily use, Freedcamp can be cumbersome in environments with heavy development. It does not provide for defect management, testing, etc. It is a task board that can be customized to fit many needs, but definitely not an enterprise tool.

Pros

Freedcamp provides a flexible and effective pricing structure to fit any business needs, including a free account. The list of standard features alone are impressive: shared file management, tasks, discussion boards, calendar, message boards, unlimited users, projects and storage, even time tracking... a feature that is often considered a premium with other project management applications. It has a pleasant UI which makes it easy to use. Even the setup is easy. Most of all, it provides customization at each project level. The home page now offers a dashboard that displays specific information for each logged in user. Get a bird's eye view of your work, updates, projects and weekly calendar overview on a single page to start off your day. Want an even more customized experience? Head straight to the widgets and create your own dashboard tailored to your specific needs. Freedcamp also provides the ability to change the display of many pages to a different view (i.e. view projects as cards or as a list).

Cons

I use the free account because it provides me with all the features I find essential for my simple business structure. But, it would be nice if there was some sort of basic or simple reporting features at this level. Unfortunately, reporting is only part of their paid subscription. But their pricing is low enough that it is actually worth forking out the extra few bucks. For as long as I have been using Freedcamp, I have not yet encountered anything else I would consider a con, as it has provided me with a solution to all of my project management needs. I do not work with Program or Portfolio Management, so I am not sure if Freedcamp provides such level of management. Based on their features list, this does not appear to be something Freedcamp has been designed to do. But if Program or Portfolio Management is not a part of your environment, Freedcamp is definitely worth looking into.

### "Our Go-To Product Management Site"

November 2, 2018

5.0

Overall I love freedcamp, I've been using this software for two years now and it continues to upgrade the things I always have small issues with so I'm hoping to see them tune up the major flaws. I would suggest this to any group or team needing a software to effectively communicate and delegate work.

Pros

Freedcamp is my favorite collaboration service for multiple users which has helped me organize and collaborate effectively via the cloud. Freedcamp is my ideal software for staying in control of projects, resources, budget, and time. My favorite feature is getting notifications in real-time of updates, questions and or comments.

Cons

My least favorite thing about freedcamp is using the software via the app. I don't like the fact that I can't save images that are loaded up by collaborators or myself. The functions of the app aren't half as good as using the website.

Hi Comacell, Thank you for a review. Regarding mobile apps - we just released a new version of our Android app https://blog.freedcamp.com/2018/10/25/freedcamp-android-invitation-install-test/ which has a ful support for attachments. For you iOS users - a new version is ready but since it a brand new application we keep it in beta to be released in December. You can send me a list of your iOS users and will add them to beta so they can also work with attachments - https://blog.freedcamp.com/2018/10/25/freedcamp-ios-invitation-install-test/ Regards, Igor

### "Very good task manager for entrepreneurs"

December 29, 2018

4.0

In general it is the best application to handle tasks, work teams and projects if you are an entrepreneur. I stopped using it because I needed some features like custom statuses and custom labels. Unfortunately they added them when I had already moved to another application

Pros

I used this software for more than 4 years and was in love since its first use. If you are looking for a simple task manager to keep track of all your pending tasks, Freedcamp is undoubtedly your best option. You can manage your tasks by lists and projects, have as many projects as you want, even in its free version, manage users at your whim, filters, export tasks or entire projects. Freedcamp has instant synchronization with Google Calendar and now they added the integration feature with Zapier or you can develop your own API connection.

Cons

Something I do not like is the invoice manager, missing features that do have others, there is no continuity in the user interface, some features were added over time and look different and finally the mobile application, it still needs a lot of work.
