### "FIRST TIMER, NOW LONG TIMER!!!"

February 25, 2026

5.0

I am new to it, but going through the modules learning what I will be working with on a daily basis has been phenomenal. I work with the registration module. So, I love helping faculty with their side of registration during the peak months for student registration.

Pros

I love that it is Web based. When I am out of work, I can still work from home, and you do not have to worry about having VPN issues while away from your desk.

Cons

Some things that you are able to enter in Jenzabar desktop, you are not able to enter in J1 Web. Hopefully that will be a feature that is updated in the future.

### "Jezabar One is a great product if you want a well rounded all in one solution for most campus needs!"

August 27, 2025

5.0

Jenzabar One is a great suite of modules from J1 Web to Retention to Jenzabar Recruitment Module. Jenzabar is working hard to listen to College/University needs and develop the modules and products that help make student's time in college easier, while getting staff all the things they need to work more efficiently, while serving faculty and student's needs.

Pros

We have been with Jenzabar since the EX days back in 2010. We moved to Jenzabar One back in 2021 and love it. Jenzabar One has made it possible for us to use it in place of 3 other third party programs to do student housing, Sanctions/Violations/Academic Discipline and student retention. Jenzabar One and J1 Web have helped us move Advising of students into a new dimension to help with student retention and make early student alerts for students that need help easier for faculty and staff. Since moving away from the 3 other third party programs we used for student housing, Sanctions/Violations/Academic Discipline and student retention, we have seen more engagement with students and greater retention.

Cons

My only con with Jenzabar One is the pricing for support. Our enrollment can fluctuate from year to year and we are paying at the higher level of our enrollment. But for all the modules we use in Jenzabar One, I think even those maintenance amounts even out in the long run of our contract. Overall I am way happier using Jenzabar One than any other software we use on campus.

Alternatives considered

[Oracle PeopleSoft](https://www.capterra.com/p/155958/Oracle-PeopleSoft/)

Reason for choosing Jenzabar One

Peoplesoft was too expensive for what we wanted it to do and Jenzabar was the only company that would let us purchase the products we needed while growing into other modules as we grew and needed more advanced tools for our students and staff.

Switched from

[Oracle PeopleSoft](https://www.capterra.com/p/155958/Oracle-PeopleSoft/)

We used a home grown solution called Coco. Our main campus used Oracle PeopleSoft and they wanted us to try it. We switched because our home grown solution Coco had outgrown it's usefulness. Even though it was a relational database, it's open field design made searching students complicated and finding old data difficult to do. Oracle PeopleSoft didn't fit and we went with Jenzabar.

### "The Nightmare of Jenzabar"

November 18, 2023

2.0

Terrible. It is clunky, and very clicky. Way too many movement to get done what needs to be done. You cannot edit within the program. Any assignments given must be saved as word docs and reuploaded for every edit.

Pros

For me as a classroom teacher -- nothing. I guess from the Admin side -- cost effective

Cons

Very user unfriendly. There is the issue of Instructor tools and resources from publishing companies that do not integrate well with Jenzabar. Jenzabar never comes up on their lists of LMS. That is because it is not an LMS, but an SIS -- a management tool first, a classroom tool second. Admin always runs in the background.

Switched from

My place of employment changed. I had used Canvas for years. Then before that, Moodle. Both were better than Jenzabar.

### "Jenzabar One User"

April 22, 2025

4.0

It is very easy to use and student friendly for smaller colleges. More back end users to know it the Jenzabar product is utilized.

Pros

I enjoy the product and the outcomes for student success. I been part of Jenzabar for 20 plus years.

Cons

I really did not like any part of the product except when the info-maker went away from being part of Jenzabar.

### "Jenzabar is one of very few that works fairly well for clock hour schools."

April 13, 2018

5.0

Shared real time data - quality student transcripts and attendance reports.

Pros

The ability to customize features to meet unique needs is top notch, and their support team is highly responsive.

Cons

Still some inconsistency in processing data under unique needs for a clock hour school. Particularly when applying updated we will experience a "regression" on customized items when they interact with an update from time to time.

### "Decent ERP for Higher Education"

January 4, 2020

4.0

We use this software company-wide for admissions, registration, HR, and Payroll.

Pros

The database for Jenzabar runs on SQL Server which makes most administration easy. I like how you can easily check window permissions.

Cons

The desktop client UI is a bit outdated. The new J1 Web interface is very nice. However, the roll-out of J1 Web for all modules has been slow and rebranded once already.

Reason for choosing Jenzabar One

This product has been used since the late '90s at Campbellsville University.

### "Clunky DBMS, but it gets the job done (for the most part)"

March 20, 2019

3.0

We use Jenzabar to manage our University data and tasks. I personally am very familiar with the advising and registration modules. Learning curve can be steep, but it rewards one with access to some impressive versatility.

Pros

The best part of this software is versatility. Every department can use the same DBMS without a need to import/export data. It also integrates well with our Learning Management Software and Imaging Software, which allows for less manual entry and smoother workflow between departments.

Cons

It looks clunky and outdated (think Win XP style). The interface is not intuitive at all, it can be downright daunting to navigate. Multiple redundancies allow for manual entry of the same data by different departments, which in turn can create inconsistencies.

Pros

the application is simplistic and easy to learn and navigate, especially if you have previous experience in other similar learning management systems.

Cons

### "Useful Overall"

March 7, 2019

5.0

Pros

I liked that you could easily locate constituents in the system by simply entering the number into any search field. Not all CRM software is like that. I liked that it was so easy to learn to use.

Cons

I can't remember anything I didn't especially like, which is good news!

### "Modern platform that can link together all of your departments in a single platform"

June 17, 2024

4.0

Pros

Jenzabar has built a platform that is very cost effective and can replace the many integrations that you likely have at your school. It is a complete platform that has been modernized and rethought to function better in the last few years.

Cons

Some parts of the platform are not yet updated to the modern standards. This makes it difficult to train new users to the platform.

### "Complete SIS Solution"

January 26, 2024

5.0

Pros

Jenzabar One offers all of the functionality an institution needs to manage the complete spectrum, from candidate to student to graduate, in one system.

Cons

Nothing about Jenzabar One, itself. Our biggest obstacle has been getting users to delve into the system and learn all of the features available.

### "2 year - Public Institution"

June 7, 2022

5.0

This upgrade to J1 has been a great relief. Just doing data cleanup from the conversion is diffcult.

Pros

We went from CX to J1. The ability in J1 to come straight out of the box and be productive is great. We have reduced the amount of customization in our system.

Cons

We are fairly new with J1, so just learning the system.

### "Dated and Stale, not really a modern SIS"

January 14, 2023

2.0

Over all very poor. The upgrade from EX was difficult, new features didn't function well, and the support team wasn't knowledgeable about the software or how it worked. On one occasion we paid for consulting support only to have our own team fix the issue while the consultant watched via Zoom.

Pros

The student portal, JICS was reasonable.

Cons

Lack on native payment gateway, updates usually late, poor support, dated interface, dated features, no ability to waitlist classes, no native advising tools - Jenzabar hasn't kept up with what modern schools need for success.

### "A feature-rich software that looks like it was built by programmers"

September 26, 2020

4.0

I've had to use this at multiple schools now, and each time I need to learn it a little differently, depending on what my role is. It's an OK system, and generally does what it needs to, but it's not built with the average person in mind. The interface could be a lot smoother and cleaner.

Pros

It's a workhorse that can communicate with multiple other software systems to provide data and data management. Once you learn how to use it, it's relatively easy to administer, depending on your level of access and needs. The more you need to do, the more complex it gets, but there are menus and options for everything.

Cons

It's not built for the user, meaning it looks like a back-end system and not a front-facing one. Even the newest version, J-1, is not a "pretty" interface. It can get very clunky and full of old reports/links/etc.

### "Disappointing"

November 1, 2016

1.0

eLearning is cumbersome and time-consuming from the faculty side; I am an IT instructor at the collegiate level. The system involved several updates throughout the semester, and we often experience issues after an update. In August, the system crashed the first week of classes. We had to recreate over 500 courses. It was a nightmare. I am still working weekly to recreate as I go. In mid-October, we began experiencing some of the same issues we had prior to the August crash. Jenzabar support did not respond. We had another crash on October 28; this time, we "only" lost about a day's worth of work, and the system was down for two days while the latest backup was restored. The system went down again for a short time on October 31. It is very frustrating, and I would not recommend this system to anyone.

Pros

I cannot think of anything this product offers that is not found in most learning management systems.

Cons

Cumbersome to use (if you're used to a system like Blackboard, it's like going form riding a Harley to riding a tricycle), glitchy, too much down-time, not trustworthy

### "Jenzabar One from My Perspective"

July 26, 2023

4.0

We are utilizing this to allow advisors access without going through our portal. It is much more convenient.

Pros

The product is truly easy to use. The info that advisors need is easily accessible.

Cons

Once all features are available, it will be even better.

### "Better than before, but still needs work"

June 10, 2023

4.0

Generally, it's fine, and easy to adapt to. It's not "fun" to use in any way, but it gets the job done. J1 is slightly better and faster than the previous build of Jenzabar

Pros

All student information is available, there are many sections/modules, and you can do a LOT within the system. As an advisor, I can register students for classes, look up their degree progress, their information, and do all the back-end things needed to make sure students are on track. You can upload/add notes for others to see as needed.

Cons

It's so "old" looking (not slick or fancy in any way), and the interface is not super user-friendly. Also, there's no built-in course scheduler (an ability to tell the system what classes a student needs in any given term, and having it give back options for building a schedule; it all has to be done manually, even though all courses are in the system for registration!)

### "Clunky Implementation"

November 19, 2019

4.0

While various programs across campus departments can now share information, certain well-loved features that we had at the time of implementation have since broken. Instead of being able to fix these broken features, customer service was only able to offer a custom built software patch that would cost us hundreds of thousands of dollars. Jenzabar ultimately feels like something we have to work through instead of work with to accomplish projects.

Pros

This software was able to bridge gaps between various departments and created a situation where various softwares could suddenly speak to each other and share information.

Cons

The implementation was tremendously difficult, and I've heard from people at other institutions that it took nearly two years for things to start to go smoothly. This was the case at my workplace as well, and it feels like some are still getting used to the system despite having it for nearly three years now.

### "This software takes some time to get the hang of but once you do it is fairly straightforward."

April 25, 2018

4.0

Easily organize vasts amounts of information that you can access simply and efficiently.

Pros

There are endless amounts of different reports that you can run to refine your search to the specific criteria that you would like. It is very easy to input information and conversations that you have had with clients so that you can look back and see your history with them.

Cons

Sometimes my Jenzabar will stop working and I need to quit the program and open it back up again if I stepped away from my desk for too long. I am not sure if this problem stems from the software or from my personal computer.

### "Makes managing Education easy"

March 30, 2019

5.0

Great all in one software for education management!

Pros

I have used this software as both a student and as an educator. As a student, it is easy to access your class schedules, forms, class handouts/projects, register for classes, see your transcript, etc. As an educator, it is easy to access your class - upload forms, presentations, assignments, manage and submit grades, contact your students, etc.

Cons

Configuring your grading choices (weights, points, etc.) can get a little tricky.

### "JENZABAR Review"

November 9, 2018

4.0

We need something that will work with two different systems and two different department's needs (for-credit and non-credit). It has been a really good "go between" for us when we have needed to connect the two systems data. And our management must be pleased with it, because although we have switched some functions from other software to new applications (software), the functions/tasks that have been in Jenzabar are still using it. Which would tell me that for our unique needs it is doing the job and for the right amount of cost, or they would have switched to a different program when they switched our other functions.

Pros

Jenzabar allows us to set up events/classes and track those who register, as well as copy over previous events/classes to the next term.

Cons

I think Jenzabar can be a confusing if you do not use it often or have to take over a task that someone else has started. It seems for our department those who work in it daily seem to use it well, but still don't like it. While others, including myself, only use it a few times per term to set up several events/classes and then don't touch it again for weeks.
