BDR Computer Software Used the software for: Less than 6 months ### "Hubstaff: Not worth it" April 29, 2025 2.0 I do not recommend this. For me, as a user, this software used an excessive amount of processing power, and its UI not even well-thought out. Pros It does provide with very specific features to keep record of time spent working helping with accountability. Cons Its interface is not very appealing, with many widgets spread across sections that use too much space of the screen. Also, for some reason it made my Mac Air M2 run way slower and overheat. At the moment of installation, because of all the permissions it requires, I was alerted by the laptop's built-in security agent that many of my passwords had been stolen. That was a major red flag. We’re glad to hear the accountability features were helpful but we’re sorry the app didn’t meet your expectations overall. We understand your concerns around performance and permissions. Hubstaff does require certain permissions to track activity accurately but we take data privacy and security very seriously. That said, your feedback on the UI and performance is valuable. However, we'd like to note that Hubstaff was designed to use a minimal amount of system resources, about 15-40 MB of memory. If you have multiple and/or large displays, it may go up to 100 MB. We were able to use it without issues and was able to get really good insights on our remote workforce Pros It has helped manage human resources of our remote organization and keep track of efficiency. Also, time tracker and screenshots were helpful in validating work and activities of members. Cons Not yet integrated with our payout method. We have not fully used all functionalities of Hubstaff yet mainly due to cost issues. And since some features need additional payment, we are only trying to use it for our top priority needs. I would like to see something like allowing "x" amount of work breaks in a 12 hour period and not until "x" amount of hours have been worked until 1st break and an option for no terminal breaks. A lot of applications have all these bells and whistles that detracts from what it is supposed to do, hubstaff does not do that, it allows me to get on with my job. Pros The system works flawlessly. I have been using it for almost 2 months and I have never had an issue. The system is simplistically complexed. Cons sometimes its like the system is not there, because it is to quiet. I could see screenshots in one tab and then click to see activity in another. Then, in the popup for the timer, each of my projects was listed individually and I didn't need to click through folders in order to find the correct project. Cons There isn't anything currently that I dislike about Hubstaff. I know some complain about the screenshots but I actually find that quite normal. So currently I have no cons about Hubstaff. This can be frustrating for the worker. Pros I really like that it's very easy to use and understand. It's simple to track the team's budgets and set limits on them. Cons What I like the least is that the time spent in a meeting—especially when you're not the one presenting—significantly reduces the recorded work time. It's also quite unforgiving for the worker.
